Usually when a beloved social medium starts looking like it's going to belly flop badly, I back up some of my shit and move (crankily) on. Now I'm staring at @lovlegskada and wondering what the hell to do if Tumblr fucks that much up now.
I've started an export, at least. I hope that turns out somewhat usable, but thinking about moving the whole thing and then fixing links in an episode post like this makes me want to scream.
Really really hoping Matt doesn't fuck up so badly that I need to move house.
In other words, if you need to watch/rewatch/knows someone who ought to watch the loveliest queer girl show ever, now's a good time?

Can't believe I got into this show so late, but it has my whole heart. Thank you for creating this page! Any other suggestions of kicks Nordic shows with English subs?
If you liked the clip format, NRK did a couple of other shows like it.
In Blank, the characters are a little bit older, and are struggling with what to do now that high school is over and they have to take charge of their own lives. You can watch it over at @nooraiskind.
They also made Lovleg, which takes place at a rural school in Western Norway, where all the kids are living on their own. You can watch that over at @lovlegskada.
On the Swedish side there's Eagles, a teen drama about high school kids and their families around the local junior hockey team in Oskarshamn. I think you can still find all the episodes over at @eagles-translated.
Staying with the hockey theme, but much more depressing, there's Beartown. I think it's available on Amazon Prime Video.
I assume you've watched Young Royals, but on the off chance you haven't, that's worth a watch as well. It's on Netflix, and final season premieres on Monday. MONDAY!!! AAAAHHH!!! I'M SO EXCITED!

Lovleg S02E10 Clip 5
Spegelen (The mirror)
S: Hi. What are you doing? G: Writing. Not really. S: Do you want to be alone? G: Yeah. Or no. S: We have pizza. G: Great. Sara, it’s short notice, but… Would you like to go home with me for the easter holidays? I’m sure it’s going to involve a lot of crying and there won’t be much to do, but... S: Sounds perfect. Do you want a ride on my back? G: No. S: Did I just hear a no? G: I’d rather hang off your back. S: Let’s get on with it, then. Come on. One, two, three. G: No… Ow, ow, ow. I’m choking you. Ow. S: Shush. S: Ok, here, here, here. G: OK. S: Nice.
I stand alone in rooms full of people
There are too many voices speaking at the same time
And there are too many days that merge into each other
And there are too many times I stumble over stairs or over feelings
And there are too many things I have forgotten to do or forgotten to be
And I think that I don’t really know what it takes
To be a human being
To be someone to look at
Listen to
But I can see my stupid face
In your clear eyes
And suddenly there I am!
Whole and worth something
Because I live in you, I can walk down the street
With a smile in my heart, because I exist.
The air is full of words I haven’t said,
And thoughts I haven’t thought.
And I am full of faults and affectations.
But that depends on the eyes that are watching.
Whether you fall or fly.
Whether you stumble or dance.
Whether you are full of faults
Or full of small tunnels.
Where love can come in,
And love can come out
You can be a whole person.
When you forget the bathroom mirror
And see yourself in the fjord and the clouds,
Until the whole blue planet,
Is the iris of someone who loves you.
And you don’t want to hate yourself,
Because then, you hate everyone.
And you don't want to hate others,
Because then, you hate yourself.
And you want to save the world, because she is a friend
Who’s got something in her eye and can’t get it out.
G: Did you learn the whole poem by heart? S: Yeah. And I still think you should have read it at that slam thing. G: Yeah. S: It reminds me a bit of… G: You have my full attention. S: OK. Anyway, it reminds me a bit of when I was small. I had a best friend I used to run off to. And her father was so good with poems and stuff, and he used to read, like… and there was one poem I especially liked, and it goes like this …
This was the last clip of the last episode of season two! Thank you so much for keeping up with our translations! It has been a wonderful journey :) (and hopefully, we get a season three)
💛❤️💙 💚 🖤

Hello, I know this is kinda off topic, but do have any idea of anyone who's gonna be translating Lovleg? Thank you so much!
Hi! At present I do not (it won’t be me, most likely, since my Norwegian isn’t good enough to translate without a rough english transcript yet) but if I hear anything, I will try and make sure it gets reblogged so that people can find it! x

lovleg, blank, 17
After Skam finished, NRK greenlit several other shows in the real time clip format. Out of a desperation/desire for people to watch these really good shows (I have no problem deeming them all superior to Skam), I've written a post to signal boost.
Tumblr media
lovleg follows 15-year old Gunnhild Kvam as she moves to Sandane from Høyanger for high school. Gunnhild moves to a shared house (the "White House") with Sara, Peter and Alex in her floor, and Luna, Torstein and Ivar in the floor above hers. Lovleg means "lawful" in Norwegian, but in this specific case, it refers to turning 16, i.e. the age of consent in Norway, that makes sex between 16 year olds and anyone older than them legal.
I wouldn't know how to explain what makes lovleg so special without spoiling major plot points. The characters live in rural Norway, so they're connected to the world thanks to technology while their actual world is small. Gunnhild chooses to go to Sandane for high school to escape the bullying and social exclusion she experienced at Høyanger, and lovleg shows how Gunnhild does in a more accepting environment.
DO NOT watch this show without the social media content. You'll simply miss out.
You can watch lovleg at @lovlegskada and @lovlegenglish.
[SPOILERS: lovleg contains an abortion storyline, a wlw storyline and portrayal of an anxiety disorder.]
Tumblr media
blank is an anthology series and its mains have no connection with each other. This makes it a good show to watch if you're only interested in one of the seasons. blank deals with the immediate period post-high school where people working out what to do with their lives.
Season 1 follows Ella Correia Midjo, who has moved to Oslo after high school with her obnoxious boyfriend Mats and her best friend Susanne. Ella neither studies nor works. Watch season 1 if you want to know what a post high school Eva Mohn season looks like. (Note: Ella is not a woc. She’s just half-Portuguese. 🤪)
Season 2 follows Zehra Demir, a second generation Turkish Muslim in Oslo who's studying Pharmacy in uni. Zehra DJs on the side in the hopes of getting discovered. Her best friends are Amina, who's engaged, and Nadiya, who's a queen. Watch season 2 for a WOC led season. Zehra’s season is easily the best of all three blank seasons and a marked improvement over Sana’s season in Skam, as agreed by all 3 people who have watched it.
Season 3 follows Markus Berg, former Russ president and all around most popular guy in school, who moved to Oslo after high school and who moves back to his hometown Hadeland in the first clip. Markus' high school crew have all moved to different places, so he only has his girlfriend Karoline and his former classmate Fredrik for company. Watch season 3 if you want to know what a Skam-style season about a straight cis abled white guy looks like.
You can watch blank at @nooraiskind.
Tumblr media
Last but definitely not least, is 17. The reason I have listed it last is because there are no English subs for any season yet (only the first two episodes of season 1). 17 follows boys from Stovner in western Oslo, also known as the neighborhood where Muslims and immigrants of color have settled in.
17 changes its name every season, to reflect both the age of the main character and the number of episodes each season has. Every season counts down to an event in the finale episode.
17 (season 1) follows Somalian-Norwegian Abdi. 18 (season 2) follows Turkish-Norwegian Emrah. There's a third season coming this fall called 16, but I haven't been able to find the name of the lead.
You can watch 17 on the NRK website if you are Norwegian and speak Norwegian.
If you speak Norwegian and would like to help us translate and sub this show, PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

My favourite webshows
Sometimes I get tired of netflix shows and explore the wonderful world of web content! Here is a list of my favourite webshows and also my watchlist for shows I haven’t watched yet.
(Also I’m excluding Skam because everyone knows that)
1. Bee and Puppycat. Cartoon, absolutely crazy but also somehow calming? It’s so weird and I love it so much. Watch this pilot first and then the rest!
2. The Guild. A classic! Awkward nerds on an adventure. Here is the first season. I just found out that the official videos are removed from youtube and are apparently now on netflix and amazon? But there are reuploads on Youtube with italian subs so... that’s something?
3. Spooked. Weird people that encounter ghosts and other paranormal stuff? Count me in!
4. Jack and Dean of all Trades. I love Jack and Dean and their webshow is their humor combined with new characters and an actually good plot and it made me super emotional at the end.
5. Save the Supers. Superheroes being a mess? Check.
6. Untidy with Marie Kondo. This is a super short webshow that parodies Marie Kondo’s netflix show and made me laugh really hard. Also: lesbians!
7. Space Janitors. Star Wars Parody. So dumb and hilarious and great. Three seasons!
8. The Webventures of Justin & Alden. This show is pure chaos and I loved every second of it. Also a lot of suprising cameos!
9. The gay and wondrous life of Caleb Gallo. Okay, if you haven’t seen this, you’re missing out. It’s so gay, so weird, and also very touching emotional. I didn’t know who I was after watching it. Would recommend!
10. Unfortunately Ashly. Very cute gay romcom. Truly the awkward wlw representation we need!
11. Carmilla. Already a web show classic! You like wlw stuff? You like vampires? Then this show is perfect for you.
Currently watching / On my watchlist:
1. Lovleg. Norwegian, weird, lovely. I’m still in season 1, but would already highly recommend! The videos are on youtube with English subtitles!
2. Anne+. Lesbians! Yay! Dutch show that is already very popular, so I’ll probably watch it the next days.
3. Control / Kontrola. Polish, also wlw! Seems to have great cinematography.
4. The Ls next door. This is a little, funny show where two women just inserted themselves into “The L Word: generation Q”. It’s very low budget and very funny and is still going! But careful: It has a lot of spoilers for the L Word (duh).
5. Ebay Kleinanzeigen WG. This one is in German. It tells the story of Malte, Hannah and Tommy who live in a flatshare together and are very different and all very weird. There are LOT of episodes because the show is running for two years already, and the episodes do get better and better. It’s still running, every thursday comes a new episode.
6. The Lizzie Bennet Diaries. You love Pride and Prejudice? Great! This is a modern retelling. I have yet to watch it, but it has a big fanbase and is supposed to be really good and funny!
7. Wishlist. I have to admit that I have literally no idea with this is about. It’s a german mystery show, so if you’re into the genre, check it out!
8. Girl Cave. Another German one and another one where I don’t know anything about. I think it’s just about the life of three teenage girls.
Feel free to add our own favourites, I love discovering new webshows!

Hello, I was wondering if you could recommend any similar or coming of age norwegian/danish series that I could watch online? I have already seen two different versions of skam. I also know of lovleg. Is there anything else you recommend?
Hi! NRK has a TV series called 17, here's a link to watch it on YouTube with English subtitles. There's also Eagles, which is the Swedish version of SKAM with different storylines but the same format, I think? You can find translations at @eagles-translated . Anyone have any other suggestions? Please chime in.

Hi! I keep seeing posts about lovleg but what actually is it? And could you sort of describe what s1 is all about? Thank you!
Hi! Thank you for asking!!
You might already know that Lovleg is a web series, just like Skam, and it’s a show about teenagers that feels real. It’s also in a format much like Skam - we get clips and extra material like Insta posts and chats in real time throughout the week.
Tumblr media
The clips end up in full episodes every Thursday. Also, the characters have social media profiles. Also, I must mention Gunnhild’s notes. I love Gunnhild’s notes. She writes what she thinks, almost like a diary, and it’s really good. They are really good, funny and sometimes even poetic. Another addition compared to Skam, is that the character Alex has a profile on urort.no where we can hear some of his music.
There are many similarities to Skam. However, unlike Skam, both season 1 and 2 seem to be about the same main - Gunnhild.<3
Tumblr media
Here Gunnhild is in yellow and one of her new flatmates, Sara.
Lovleg is a really good show. It’s similar to Skam because of the format and the real feeling of it, but it differs in several ways, too. It’s kinda cringey and funny, but heartwarming and beautiful as well. The first season follows Gunnhild who moves to Sandane, a different town/ city, for her high school year at Firda. She has to live in a flatshare and adapt to the new place and all the new people while managing school.
Tumblr media
Here are most of the characters (at least the ones in the flat share), from Sara’s Insta. Gunnhild is in the middle, in the white top. There are so many interesting characters, and they are all played by teenagers!!!!
Tumblr media
This is a show you can relate to, with real issues. Season 1 is a lot about Gunnhild figuring out things. She feels awkward and struggles to find new friends. There are rumours about her from her home place that she wants to escape, and she basically wants a new start.
Tumblr media
Gunnhild with Alex and Ivar on a little roadtrip.
Tumblr media
Awesome scene with Alex.
During season 1 Gunnhild figures out that she’s stronger than she thinks and that others can have their own issues. I don’t want to spoil too much, but she grows a lot.
Tumblr media
A scene with Luna from the apartment above Gunnhild. There’s some really good connection between the two of them.
So. Is this show worth watching? YES. And here’s why: It feels real. The characters are intriguing, believable and real. I love how Gunnhild interacts with all the characters and discovers friendships where she didn’t think she could find any.
Tumblr media
Also, the show is well written, the dialogue is really good and I don’t know what happens next. The cinematography is amazing, especially in the most important clips. The soundtrack is really good. And the beautiful is often mixed with the weird, and good stuff with sad stuff, and I love that.
Tumblr media
I have said it before, but I’ll say it again: I love how the show deals with subjects like feelings of alienation and struggling to fit in, having questions about legal age and consent, that boys can say no, too, the myth of “losing the virginity”, to be not seen and seen, the reality of abortion, what is to be loyal toward friends, and mental struggles like panic attacks. And it’s done in a very down to earth way. No spoon feeding, no pointy fingers.
Also, this:
Tumblr media
Gunnhild flirting with Luna. :)
No spoilers, but there might show up some w/w in this show.
So, where can you watch this? This is the official website: https://lovleg.p3.no/
If you want to watch it in English you can catch up with season 1 here and follow @lovlegenglish and @lovlegskada for updates on season 2.

Hello, the new P3 series 'Lovleg' has been released about a month ago and it's only viewable in Norway. Is there any way for me to watch it? maybe a site? I'm having a hard time finding one. it would really be amazing if you knew any thank you <3
Hi there! I’m not watching Lovleg myself right now, but I think you should be able to watch it on it’s official website, lovleg.p3.no ? I’m not in Norway and I can view the clips… If you want English translations I think you can use @lovlegenglish ’s blog? Hope that helps

Practised vocab with TinyCards
Read 2x chapters of Harry Potter
Norwegian Tutor unit 9 exercises H-J & unit 10 exercises A-L

Lokus: did various exercises from God i Norsk 2 kapitel 1 (3x listening, 3x vocab, 1x reading)
Practised vocab with Memrise
Watched 1x Norwegian Teacher Karin video on pronunciation
Continued writing partially Norwegian novel
I started watching Lovleg again bc I miss it and and omg I forgot how much I love Gunnhild, she’s so fucking awkward it makes my heart happy <3 Honestly I’m legit heartbroken this show got cancelled :( I think I understand it better than I did on the first watch through but I don’t really remember how well I understood it before. I still have subtitles on but I’m trying not to use them unless I really have no idea what just happened lol. There was definitely one clip that I understood a whole lot better than I did the first time round.
I’ve been making an effort to watch more tv shows in Norwegian to hopefully help my speaking. I feel like I know a lot of words in Norwegian but I don’t really know how to use them in a natural way (I kinda just translate word for word from English in my head while speaking, which is partially why I’m so slow at speaking atm), so I feel like I need to hear people actually speaking the language and holding conversations more. So far I’ve not noticed much (or any) difference, but again I have noticed I don’t need subtitles that much anymore - I sometimes glance at them if I’m struggling, but generally speaking I find them more distracting then helpful.
I feel like I’ve not done a lot this week but looking back I guess I have. Go me. It’s mostly watching TV shows and prattling to myself and doing stuff I enjoy that doesn’t feel like a chore, so I guess that’s why it feels like I’ve not done a lot.

Thanks for answering :D I just wanted to know who puts this much effort for all of us. I'm kinda new in this fandom. I silently keep refreshing my yt feed for new episodes. I've just heard Skam from a youtuber girl who wears hijab and lives in Sweden so she mentioned this series Skam and there was a girl like her and the partying and stuff was too much but the rest of it was realistic she said etc. So i was just looking for that show and saw Skam espana and...
... There were 2 girls. I was like "SIGN ME UP!!" I guess some remakes don't have girls but boys instead, idk :) At first i just watched it out of curiosity. But the music they used, the characters and how they handle the situations actually affected me. I even try to learn Spanish right now hahaha! So I'm here rambling to you :)
*
Hi again, anon!
I didn’t really answer the question in the first ask, but I’ve always been very interested in writing, languages and translation. When you translate a piece of fiction to another language, you’re sort of recreating it in the target language. For instance, the people who translated the Harry Potter books to different languages recreated the Harry Potter world in every language. Lord Voldemort has a different birth name in every language in order to recreate the phrase “I AM LORD VOLDEMORT” in every target language.
Some people approach subtitling as, “let’s try for the most neutral and most widely understood translation.” This has its advantages, namely, more people will understand the subtitles. But one of the most charming aspects of Skam, to me, is that these characters aren’t speaking standard language. They’re speaking the most unintelligible teenspeak. They mumble, they talk over each other, they stutter through their sentences like an actual person. To take a script that is so specific and rich in characterization, and make it standard.. I understand why other teams do it that way, but in my case, I hope that when people watch our subs, they feel like the characters are the more real because of the way they speak.
As for the actual question in this ask! 😋 If you’re interested in wlw storylines with this kind of format, I again recommend Skam Austin. I will also recommend Lovleg, which finished recently. You can watch it with English subs at @lovlegskada and @lovlegenglish. The series is about Gunnhild, an awkward 16-year old with an interest in writing.
