uumm, hi! This is my first ever actual post on tumblr so, I ain't really expecting anyone to see this, but alas.
About a year ago, I asked had asked for @skyward-floored and @silvrash-797's help on a fic I was writing. I did finish it! It just took me until now to build up the courage to share it with the internet.
The fic was made based on @zarvasace's lu prompt generator, with the prompts in question being "Emotional Baggage - Warriors & Four - Werecreatures AU".
The fic has 945 words - a pretty short ready.
The warnings I must give before proceeding are: Some level of body horror (not Too explicit, but you know, transmutation is gonna be a bit painful); Mention of blood; Warriors may be suffering from PTSD. Maybe. I wasn't thinking that hard when I wrote this TvT. And, of course, there's me not really knowing how to handle an "advice type" conversation and doing what I thought was best + this being one of the very first fics I ever wrote so it's gonna be a lill janky. If there's anything else you might think requires a warning that I didn't catch, please let me know!
He hadn’t meant to. He truly hadn’t! But the stress building up throughout the fight coupled with the unnatural amount of dark magic of the Champion’s Hyrule hadn’t helped his case.
In the end, he couldn’t resist the pull of the beast within.
It had crawled and twisted its way thru muscle and bone, sharpening teeth, turning nails into claws and forcing fur to grow in gold and scarlet. He could barely be called hylian at that point.
Although, perhaps he’d lost that title a long time ago.
The lion had already taken care of most of the monsters when he’d regained control of his mind again.
His siblings had looked at him: A mix of confusion and apprehension painted their features, but all that his feline eyes could see was horror - the horror of soldiers who’d almost lost their lives to their newly cursed captain - and so, he ran away.
And now he found himself lost somewhere in the middle of a random forest in Wild’s enormous Hyrule, halfway between beast and hylian.
Bruises and scratches cut thru skin and blood stained his fur and clothes. He had no potion in him, but thankfully his cursed regeneration had closed the wounds quickly, leaving no time for infection or blood loss.
In the quietness of his mental turmoil, his not-quite-feline-not-quite-hylian ears picked at the sound of bushes behind him.
As he turned - claws half drawn as his hands flew towards his sword and shield - a streak of a golden color adorning a diminutive stature popped out of the leaves, lowering Wars’ guard.
That was Four. His sibling.
The smithy’s eyes shimmered in relief as they - by some miracle - recognized his form. A light show of four vibrant colors played within their irises, held inside by a golden halo.
“Wars! Thank the Force you’re safe!-” They exclaimed, working their way closer to the war captain.
“-We’ve been looking for you for hours now. Do you need healing?” Four questioned. Closely inspecting the bruises and bloodied scars that laid across fur and skin.
“No, it’s closed already… Thank you.” Wars answered. Voice raspy and awkward. Typical of this in-between state, yet no less unpleasant.
If there was any self loathing showing on his face, the smithy, kindly, didn’t voice it.
“Sure..” Four answered, the colors in their irises slowing down to a display of only green and violet as they continued to inspect him.
“Well, if you're okay then we should start heading back to camp. Everyone’s been pretty worried about you.” They continued. Voice with an undertone of open invite for conversation.
The war captain knew well that their next plan of action should be regrouping, but the crippling shame of his actions - the hypocrisy he'd shown - served to break his sensible resolve and, against his own principles yet again this day, The captain found himself asking: “How.. How do you do it?”
“How do I do what?” Four asked him back. Eyes shifting to a curious vermilion, tho still bearing a lilac caution.
“The whole ‘four were-beasts at once’ thing.. How do you manage that?” He explained. The quick realization that perhaps he shouldn’t have asked such a question quickly fading as his eyes laid on the smithy’s softening face. Their eyes shifted to a soft emerald as they sat beside him.
“Well, it was.. Hard at first. Fun too, sometimes-” They said. Contemplative, mossy green eyes looked somewhere far away “-But when you just want to live a normal life, it can get a bit annoying.”
The captain could scoff at that. Tell me about it..
“And though I could just tell you it was ‘all the work of time and nothing else’, the reality is, it took a lot more than that.” Cerulean blue fixed on a tree with determination while pine green filled it with understanding.
“It took another adventure, and then another after it and one more. It took patience and it took courage. The thing is: These forms aren’t just forms. They’re their own living beings at times and if you want them to cooperate, you need to befriend them.”
Their eyes had now been fully consumed by the ocean. They fixed on the same tree still, more assertive and sure than anything outside of battle.
“That isn’t easy. It wasn’t for me and it won’t be for you. But, if you want your lion to be on your side, you’ll need to be willing to let it come to you. And it will take a lot of time for anything to come out of it, but you’ll need to hold on for it. Else it’ll consume you whole.” Deep blue eyes now fixed at the skies above, daring it to deny their statement. It didn’t, but the sun was kind enough to inform them of the approaching night fall.
“I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to try..” The seasoned war hero responded at long last. Shame still clung to him like a lifeline, but he found solace in his now fully hylian form.
After a minute or two of comfortable silence between them, Four asked: “Ready to go back to camp now, Cap’?” Vivid green blossomed within navy blue, followed by cherry red as the first overtook both irises.
“Can’t stay here forever can we?” Wars stood on his feet as he extended a hand to Four. The smithy in question took it only a second after. Rose fully encompassed both eyes with a playful glint behind them.
Sure enough, they soon found themselves in a game of tag as they ran their way back to camp.
