[Video description: Lucas Carlsson's postgame rinkside interview conducted by NBC color commentator Drew Remenda after the Sharks' 3-1 win over the Boston Bruins at home on 2025 Mar 22.
Transcript under the cut.
(Video transitions from a shot of the NBC studio to Alexandar Georgiev stepping out onto the ice to toss a puck to the crowd as the 2nd star of the game.)
ALAN HOSHIDA (voiceover): —and we could hear Lucas Carlsson once again in all of that because what he did in that third period to help the Sharks win was spectacular. Alexandar Georgiev was also very good; if it wasn't for a misplay behind his net, we could've been looking at a shutout!
MARK SMITH (voiceover): Yeah, he, uh, you're right, yeah—made some big saves, Pasta [Bruins skater David Pastrňák] was in there, a couple really good opportunities. Uh, didn't get a ton of shots today, but the ones that he needed to save, he got those done.
HOSHIDA: And I believe that was the second star, we might've missed the first one—and look, there he is, Lucas Carlsson... (Smitty laughs)
(Carlsson waits by the bench, receives a fistbump from Georgiev, then steps out onto the ice to toss a puck as well as the 1st star of the game.)
HOSHIDA: ...who is sitting there waiting, uh... He came out and—you don't know what to expect when you haven't played an NHL hockey game in over two years, but he came out and he connected when you needed to, and what a moment for him.
SMITH: Yeah, and just—having a great year obviously, Barracuda, coming off a long, uh, rehab, uh, a hard injury, um, and a—great, great game tonight. Couldn't be happier for the guy.
(Carlsson steps back off the ice and gets seated beside Drew Remenda to be interviewed.)
HOSHIDA: And he is with Drew!
REMENDA: Congratulations, sir. How does that feel for ya; it has been a long road back, hasn't it?
CARLSSON: Yeah, that was a good one. Uh, I've been waiting for this for... for a few months, so, uh, yeah, it was unbelievable.
(A caption appears that states tonight he has a game-winning goal and an assist, his goal was the first NHL goal he'd scored since 2022 Mar 5, and this is his 3rd career two-point game.)
REMENDA: You had to work through a really tough injury in your career. You come back; you played very well for the Barracuda—getting this call-up—and then tonight, against the Boston Bruins. How did you feel coming into the game and how do you think your game went?
CARLSSON: Uh, I was just so excited getting to the rink today, uh, and then obviously... playing in this... in this arena; it's a first time for me, so, um, it was unbelievable.
REMENDA: So then, in first time for you, how does it feel—(pointing at the cheering audience still in the seats behind them) the crowd cheering your name?
CARLSSON: (smiling) Unreal. Unreal. (to the audience) Thank you guys!
REMENDA: Congratulations, way to go.
CARLSSON: Thank you.
(Carlsson stands and gathers his things, then heads to the locker room, receiving a pat on the back from Drew and fistbumping some fans reaching out through the fencing as he walks to the locker room.)
HOSHIDA: Smitty, that has to be incredibly special because you're—when you tear your ACL, and a major injury like that, as a professional athlete, your career flashes, right?
(Fade back to Alan and Smitty in the the NBC studio.)
HOSHIDA: Like, are you going to be able to make it back. And for him to make it back and then produce in his very first game... there's so many things that are probably going through his body right now.
