LED Luminaries
What are the things and basics we should know about LED Luminaries?
Luminaires should be selected for optical performance (cutoff, light distribution) and high downward light/output ratio (within the limits of the brightness control). Durable reflective materials with low rates of reflection degradation should be selected. Glass refractive reflectors are recommended for discharge lamp luminaires in high ceiling applications. Fluorescent light fixtures with reflective surfaces and prismatic covers that resist yellowing over time should be selected. Bare tube batten fluorescent tube luminaires are inherently less efficient to use. Although the light/power ratio is high, it still cannot fully utilize the light.
LED Luminaries basics
LED Luminaries seem like an astonishing culmination of mechanical, electronic, electrical, and optical design, resulting from many research efforts. LED fixtures comprise a series of LEDs with components such as a heat sink, driving circuitry, and optical lens, all built into the unit. There are common misconceptions regarding the issue of LED heat output. It is often assumed that LED lighting fixtures do not generate heat during operation. But in fact, LEDs often generate heat because they consume more power, and the heat generated must be dissipated from the LED package. No suitable system is configured using LED packages to dissipate this excess heat. Therefore, a heat sink is placed below the LED to dissipate heat to the surrounding environment and protect the electrical components from thermal damage. The heat sink covers the LED package from self-damage caused by overheating, thereby extending the luminaire's life. This ensures proper thermal management of the luminaire. Apart from this, the heat sink also gives an attractive look to the LED Luminaries. Heat sinks are available in various innovative and beautiful designs that look great for your lighting fixtures.
LED Luminaries typically have metal fins, but higher-power LEDs use aluminium or ceramic fins. Ceramic fans have low heat capacity and tiny pores that facilitate heat dissipation. Therefore, they are more effective than metal fans. Graphene films are also highly regarded as excellent heat sinks. Graphene exhibits four times better thermal conductivity than copper. Initially, adding more layers of graphene produced some persistent defects. The weak adhesion of graphene has been a major problem, and this is due to the weak van der Waals forces that form bonds within graphene. This problem was quickly recognized and solved by adding (3-aminopropyl) Triethoxytoluene, which can generate strong covalent bonds between the surface and the graphene film.
