It was by mere suggestion that Emmeline had found herself attending the musical addition of the festival, having promised prior to give it a chance at the very least. At first she hadn't considered the idea of staying, finding herself struggling more than she cared to admit to connect with the muggle side of things. It had been too many years spent trying to be anything but the half-blood to fully connect over one simple yet dedicated weekend.

The witch was about to snap, not liking the idea of having anyone bump into her when she recognized the other's voice. "You're probably right but I don't think I'm quite the dancer." Emmeline chuckled, observing the joy on Lily's face. "It certainly suits you more than it does me. But please, don't let me spoil the fun." She was, at the end of the day, still trying to find ways to connect with her mother's side of the bloodline; as silly as that may have been.
Who: open
Where: Unity Fair
When: Sunday 18 July 1982
How long had it been, Lily wondered, since she had seen so much dancing and celebration in public? There had been a gloominess in the air the past year which Lily simply had not been able to shake.
It was hard to feel anything other than joy, however, with so much laughing and joy, with the smell of sweets and butterbear in the air.
And with the songs of her childhood playing, song she heard on muggle radio which so many around her could not understand why she would still listen to.
She sang them now, moving with glee. Lily was undeniably, unapologetically muggleborn, and tonight was a night for her to celebrate it.
She span uncontrollably in her dance, nearly knocking into someone as she did so. “I would apologize, but if you really think about it, it’s your fault. You should be dancing! Surly you can’t listen to music like this and not dance!”

Part of the reason Rodolphus enjoyed his booth was because he could see the door. Although he'd taken the moment to crack his neck he had noticed the redhead come into the pub. Of course it was that dog that responded to the noise his body made. Just the way she moved toward him was pathetic. A do-gooder.
His eyes hardly looked up at her as she approached and sat. He picked up his scotch, swirling it so the ice clinked in the glass. He groaned, not in the mood for someone wanting to change his behavior. There were a number of people who would love the chance to do that so why did this snotty bitch think she could? Ignorance and arrogance.
Rodolphus refused to say anything. If she thought she could stare someone down, she had no idea what she was in for.

Lily watched Rodolphus from across the pub. She had been stopping off after work, a quick feed and a drink after a long, late shift on her feet.
He made her sick, that type of deep, irreversible sickness she felt whenever she saw someone behave as he had.
She was on her feet, legs moving before her brain could catch up, driving forwards like a woman possessed.
“You don’t mind do you?” She asked, sliding into the booth, eyes dark and stubborn, running towards trouble. “It seems kicking people out of their booths is acceptable behavior to you, so you won’t care if I take this one. I think there’s a very nice stool by the bar still available.”
Arms crossed she stared him down. Lily wasn’t going anywhere.

He could see the frustration in the redhead’s face and smirked. Oh, how Rodolphus loved a good smirk. He also didn’t take his eyes off her, staring her down like she was prey. Well, technically she was prey. His mouth watered. Still watching her discomfort he picked up his glass and drank, licking his lips afterward.
She broke. He gave a guttural response without opening his mouth, smiling. He nodded at her question. Of course he didn't want to sit in silence with someone like her and considered not saying a word once again. However, something in him decided against it.
Rodolphus leaned over the table, close to Lily’s face. He leaned close enough that he hoped she could smell the scotch on his breath — give her something to complain about and amuse him. “Who said I wanted company?” A beat passed. “Prey.” Then he leaned back in his seat, swirling his drink once again, eyes glaring, still never leaving hers.
Tumblr media
If there was one surefire way to wind Lily up, it was to ignore her. She hated it, hated sitting in silence. It required patience and control she did not possess.
If it was a staring contest he wanted, however, Lily was willing to play. She had gotten herself involved in whatever this was, and she was never one to back out. There she sat, arms crossed, eyes hard waiting to see who would outlast the other.
Tumblr media
Lily broke first - “Is this your idea of a fun evening then? The two of us staring each other down in silence?“ the frustration in her voice was palpable. “or, perhaps this is the only way you can find company for the evening, and avoid sitting here alone? Rather sad don't you think Lestrange.”
