Did any Kyou Machiko fans watch the 1-hour special adapting Cocoon?
I personally rated it a 7/10 compared to the manga's 9/10
I liked how it added more to the peaceful sides of their life and more character interactions however the 2nd half suffered in terms of plot and pacing. I also wasn't a fan of the Ghibli-inspired artstyle as I felt Kyou Machiko's softer and more abstract style better contrasted the tone of the story. I felt style-wise it should've been closer to Mitsuami no Kamisama's adaptation

One Dress a Day Challenge
November: Oscar winners
Gate of Hell / Machiko Kyô as Kesa
Year: 1954
Designer: Sanzo Wada
As far as I can tell, this was the first non-American film to win the Academy Award for Best Costume Design, and when you look at the lush silks and detailed armor, it's easy to see why.
This film was released in Japan in 1953, but it did not get a US release until 1954, so it won the award for the later year.
