The original lyrics of this song are about what you expect from a very tender love song (this is by no means bad, just expected). The translation used for the English dub of the anime though (there was another official translation)… Am I overthinking it, or does it feel a bit giant/tiny coded? I’ll leave links for the translation of the original lyrics as well as a vid with the dub translation for reference (it feels like a crying shame this rendition doesn’t have a full song length version. It may be looser on accuracy, but THE PERFORMANCE!!) https://www.letras.com/record-of-lodoss-war/1640266/english.html

this is a normal thing to get horny about don’t even worry 🙏

Not to out myself as an actual insane person but I just got recommended a YouTube short of a macro-lense recording of a mechanical pencil clicking and um. The detail on the thumb. The sfx. The fact that panning from the bottom of the pencil to the tip took like 3 seconds bc the ‘viewer’ was so small. Uhhhhhh 💥💥💥

If you haven't already answered a similar ask, I'm kinda curious, how many variables do you have in your story? How do you keep track of them all?
I hope you have a good day! Thank you for taking the time to read this! ^^
Uh.... many. Very many. 🤣
There's a lot of different ways of storing and keeping track of information in a SugarCube game (naked variables, temporary variables, checking history, passage tags) so it's kind of hard to get a firm number on it. I use the <<if visited>> macro a lot to check the player's history and trigger certain events if they visited a specific passage rather than creating a new variable for it, which makes doing continuity checks for referencing specific lines of dialogue very easy (it's like - if Aeran said "this thing here" in Episode 2 and I'm referencing it in Episode 3, I don't need a variable, I just need to find the title of the passage where he said the line and call it with if visited).
I also unset variables once I'm done using them, so at any given point there some players may have more variables in a specific section of the game than they do at another point. And of course, not all variables trigger on all routes through an episode because it depends on player choice and where you end up.
This is by no means a comprehensive list, but according to my excel spreadsheet:
Prologue — 7 variables
Episode 1 — 180 variables (most of these are unset at the end of the episode since there's a lot of information that does not need to be carried over past the encounter with the Count)
Episode 2 — 150
Episode 3 (in progress) — 83
So roughly 420 variables give or take (not including the CC because I never recorded the CC variables in my spreadsheet 🙈), but many of them are not active at the same time.

“Take your shoes off! Do not run in the house! Diego, be careful!” Carlos shouts as the door flings open and Carlos’ nephews run into the house. You look up from your book seeing the two boys taking their shoes off and hastily putting them by the door as they struggle to get their jackets off. You giggle as you put your book to the side. “Do you b–”
“Y/N!!!!” The boys shout. Jackets be damned, they rush to you as you laugh loudly. Bracing yourself, they hug your legs tightly as you ruffle their hair before rubbing their backs. “Hi boys!” You crouch down to be at their eye level while helping them with their jackets as they ramble on about the car ride with uncle Carlos and how they were so excited to spend the evening with tío Carlos and tía Y/N. You giggle listening to them as you see Carlos closing the door while holding the boys backpacks. He puts them down as he takes his shoes off before making his way over “Though we have to eat dinner first.”
“¡Tío Carlos!” The boys whine and Carlos shakes his head. “No. No if and or buts, we told you mamá that we would eat dinner first and no. We are not having fast food.” You giggle as the boys groan and whine while looking at Carlos. You gently run your fingers through the boys' hair as they hug your leg pouting up at you to see if you, their favorite tía and savior, could convince tío Carlos that fast food for dinner would be fine.
“No,” you start breaking the poor boys' hearts, “Tío Carlos is right. We can’t have fast food for dinner and if you two promised mamá you’d have dinner before baking cookies then we’re going to have dinner before having cookies. But,” you continue as the boys tilt their head slightly, curious as to the compromise, “maybe if you ask nicely maybe tío Carlos will make some seafood paella and if you ask real nicely, you can help him.” You whisper to the boys and smile as they gasp and look at each other, as if Carlos did not hear your plan which he did, but he would play along.
“Tío Carlos,” Marco, the younger nephew, starts while still hugging your leg, “¿Podemos cenar paella de marisco?” He asks. “¡Puedo ayudar! ¿Puedo ayudar?” Diego adds on. Carlos pretends to think about it as he glances up. He hums in “thought” while rubbing his chin slightly. “I mean.” He looks at the boys then away dramatically as he thinks. You cover your mouth to hide your giggle as the boys wait for an answer though they can’t help giggling at Carlos' overdramatic motions.
“I suppose we could have some paella de marisco for dinner.” Carlos explains as Marco grins, “and I could use some helpers…” He lets his voice trails off as Diego follows Carlos, going on about how he can help. “Do you want to go help Carlos and Diego with dinner?” You ask Marco who’s still hugging your leg as he shakes his head. Leaning down, you grunt as you pick Marco up, resting him on your hip. “Hmmm.” You tap your finger against your lip in thought, “well I mean I do need to finish decorating the Christmas tree.” Dropping your voice, “and I do need to wrap tío’s Christmas present. Do you think you could help me?” Marco nods excitedly. “Perfect! Let’s go.”
The afternoon flew by. You and Marco stayed in the formal living room decorating the Christmas tree and decorating the formal living room. Then you carefully pull out Carlos gifts and the wrapping paper while Diego and Carlos are across the house in the kitchen, singing and cooking together. You hear Carlos gently chide Diego to be more mindful around the kitchen so he doesn’t get hurt. You can’t help but smile hearing him while Macro is laying out the wrapping paper before half playing lookout and half helping you tape the presents up. You let Marco pick out the tags for the presents as you write the names before Carlos (and Diego) are calling you and Marco to dinner. You decide to worry about organizing the presents after.
When dinner finishes, the boys offer to help clean up only because it means they can get to baking cookies after. Once everything is away, the boys rush over to you while you roll the dough out. You giggle as the boys are trying to peek over the counter before Carlos produces two chairs for the boys to stand on. You finish rolling the dough out and gently lay out the vast Christmas cutters. You let the boys by taking the excess dough before rolling it out as Carlos takes the cookies that the boys cut out onto a tray. It’s a system that worked out until both trays were in the oven to bake. You guys then play games with the boys before Carlos takes the cookies out of the oven and the cycle begins again.
When the cookies finally cool enough, you help the boys with decorating the cookies. Somehow, you get some frosting on your face when Carlos calls you. You stare at him, blinking as he’s trying not to laugh before he wipes the frosting off your nose. You giggle softly before looking back down seeing the boys covered in frosting and sprinkles. You make the mistake of trying to help them which in turn gets you covered in frosting and sprinkles. You look at Carlos, who is not before taking some frosting off the knife and smearing it on his cheek. You lean back, grinning before gasping when Carlos returns the favor. The boys watch the two of you before most of the frosting ends up on each other rather than the cookies.
“Oh my sister is going to kill us.” Carlos whispers as you two box the cookies up but the boys look so happy as they try to clean themselves up. You glance at them and giggle before looking back at Carlos. “Whoops?”
Carlos looks and smiles before looking back. “It’s worth the risk. Do you want to come with me to drop them off?” He asks.
“If only to save you from your sister trying to murder you? Yes absolutely.”

Hey, thoughts on the GameSir G7 Pro? I was considering the cyclone 2 and wondering your thoughts if you have them.
I'M SO EXCITED FOR THE G7 PRO I unfortunately don't have mine just yet cause they're not shipping until the 8th!! But I will happily give my thoughts compared to the Cyclone 2 once I've had a day or two with it!!
JUST BASED OFF OF WHAT I GLEAN FROM THE PREVIEWS THOUGHT, the currently controversial thing about the G7 Pro is that it is Xbox licensed officially and thus they were not able to add things like macro recording or turbo functionality to the buttons. Personally, I don't use that stuff much at all so it's not a glaring omission for me. The last time I ever used turbo was when I was cheating in KH2 to get that puzzle piece in Twilight Town early LOL. Otherwise I usually like to have my button presses be my button presses. I could see it being a missed feature if you play games that require a LOT of singular button mashing for long stretches of time. But I... do not!
It also is NOT going to have a Switch mode I'm pretty sure, again because it is technically an "Xbox" branded controller so I assume that was out of the question. But since I have the Switch 2 I have just been using the Switch 2 controllers anyway, so, again, not a huge deal for me at present.
I'm PARTICULARLY excited for the addition of the mappable 3rd shoulder button on each side. I have grown really accustomed to having them on my 8bitdo Ultimate 2. And speaking of Kingdom Hearts, it is actually such an ideal button layout for those games in particular so I'm excited to eventually play KH3 with that as an option. Cause like, you can just map the extra shoulder buttons to up and down on the dpad and voila you now have extra shoulder buttons specifically for menu navigation in combat which is SUCH a glaring issue I have w those games when it's not built-in functionality.
Anyway, if you ask me again in like another couple of weeks I will hopefully have had some time with it haha.

how to make cool blobby turing patterns in photoshop
Tumblr media
i'll preface with i learned the basic loop from skimming a tutorial on youtube, but as someone who prefers written tutorials i'm sure many would appreciate one! also, the second part of this is some of the visual effects i figured out on my own using blending modes and stuff.
i'm using photoshop CS4 on a mac so some buttons and stuff might be in different places on windows and newer photoshop versions but all the actions are the same. my canvas is 1000x1000 pixels.
UPDATES (i'm hoping these'll show up whenever you open the readmore?)
it's possible to do something similar in krita using this plugin, made by the love @arcaedex
it's also possible to do this in photopea, a free browser alternative to photoshop! the results are pretty much identical.
FIRST off you wanna get or make a black and white image of some kind. it has to be one layer. can be noise, a photo, a bunch of lines, whatever. here's mine, just some quick airbrush lines:
Tumblr media
now find the actions tab. idk what it looks like in newer versions of photoshop but you probably won't need to dig!
Tumblr media
hit the little page thingy to make a new pattern. once you hit 'record', it'll record everything you do. the little square 'stop' icon will end it.
Tumblr media
now you want to do a high pass filter. you can mess around with the radius to change the size of your squiggles, but the tutorial had it set to 6. experiment!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
now add the 'threshold' adjustment layer. i use the adjustments tab but i think there's also a dropdown menu somewhere. keep it at the default, 128. merge it down. (control or command + E or you can right click it like some kind of weirdo)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and finally, the gaussian blur! the radius of this affects the shape and size of your squiggles as well. i like to keep it around 4.5 but you can mess around with that too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
after that, hit 'stop' on the action you're recording, and then repeat it a bunch of times using the 'play' button, until you have something you like, like this:
Tumblr media
WOW!! that was fun!! and only a little tedious thanks to the power of macros. anyway, here's some fun layer blending stuff i like to do. it's with a different pattern cause i made this bit first.
anyway, using a black and white gradient (or a grey base that you do black and white airbrush on), make a layer with the vivid light. this will make the blobs look thicker or thinner.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
then, for cool colors, do a gradient map adjustment layer over that:
Tumblr media
and finally, my best friend, the overlay layer. just using a gradient here bc i'm lazy, but feel free to experiment with brushes, colors, and blending modes!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
NOW GO. MAKE COOL SHIT WITH THE POWER OF MATH. AND SEND IT TO ME
also these are not hard and fast rules PLEASE mess around with them to see what kind of weird shit you can make. here's a gif. as you can see i added some random airblush blobs in the middle of it, for fun.
