MINERVA: Lunvik…? Why is someone who's as old as the Sages asking me about this? [she points to the picture on his phone with a frown.] You know damn well what a Dispelling Rune looks like and what it's used for; you should have seen plenty of them during the war, so why are you really here? Did Olive send you to be her little errand boy and charge you with the task of persuading me to change my mind?

GREG: I'm not anybody's little errand boy anymore… [he growls through a slightly clenched jaw before forcing himself to rein it back in and calm down.]  I don't know if you know this or not, sweetheart, but those precious Sages of yours don't tend to distribute a whole hell of a lot of knowledge to the grunts on the frontlines if it isn't on a bare-bones need-to-know basis. They told the fuckin' cannon fodder to avoid areas marked with whatever this 'dispelling rune' thing is and that was it — so yeah, I've seen one. Seen plenty, but not in hundreds of years and this one looks too fresh to be a leftover from the war so maybe waste less of my time being a stuck-up little priss and tell me what I came here to find out.

MINERVA: Well if it'll get you off my lawn, here —  it's more commonly called a Null Rune and it does just exactly what it says it does. It dispels and completely nullifies magical energy and makes it impossible for a spellcaster to use any magic within the bounds of an area marked with four of these, one in each cardinal direction. It was, um… [she furrows her brow thoughtfully.] It was a Frankensteined alchemical symbol devised around the start of the war by a group called the Ordo Secundi Mortis, a secret society of Mischief and Untamed Casters that —

GREG: [interrupting] That eventually came to be the fucking leeches we know and despise to this day, yeah, I know who they are. One last question — Forgotten Hollow's right at Ravenwood's doorstep, so are they just trying to keep the neighbors out of their business or have you had someone from the Corvus Coven go missing?

MINERVA: It was years ago but… [she frowns, watching the ravens circling overhead.] … Fuck. We're not discussing this out here, come in. Do you want tea or coffee?

GREG: I wouldn't say no to a nice bottle of that magic wine you were talkin' about — You look like you could use a drink.

MINERVA: If I drank every time I looked like I could use a drink, we'd be operating at a huge loss… [she sighs.] But it has been a hell of a day so … greenhouse it is, follow me.
