Kit knew his sister was a genuinely nice person, but Ella had been through so much, and he wanted the two of them to be friends. If not as close as sisters.

"Thank you," Kit said with a relieved smile.

"You're being nice to someone very special, do you remember that girl I danced with at the ball?"

" you've danced with so many girls at so many balls, am i truly expected to keep track of all of them? " there is a moment of faux seriousness in her expression before it melts into laughter, "i'm kidding, i'm kidding!"

of course, camila knew about the girl he had danced with at the ball; the mystery princess in the gorgeous blue gown who left a glass shoe behind ——- truthfully, it would've been harder to find someone who didn't know ! and now the mystery girl was here, apparently. consider the princess' curiosity piqued by the girl who enchanted her brother so.

" of course i remember her! " she exclaims, linking arms with her brother, " and that stunning gown of hers. i don't think i have ever seen that many layers in a skirt. ——- how long do you think that took? " that seemed more like a question for the lady, " so, is she here now ? you've declared your love for her and asked for her hand ? oh, happy days ! maybe now you'll stop moping around the place like a character in a romance novel. "

"Mhmm." She replied, her smile growing wider. Even with the slight chill in the air, it was warmer here than those not so distant nights spent in the attic, or on the kitchen floor.

And even if she were cold, Ella certainly wouldn't say so. Not if it would ruin the magic of the moment. It felt like if either of them moved, the peaceful atmosphere surrounding them would flutter out of reach.

"I wish it didn't have to end. That we could stay right here, in this moment, forever."

Turning her head to gaze over at him, Ella smile peacefully. Kit had promised to make this night special, and he certainly had. A moonlit picnic and cuddling under the stars was something right out of a book! The fact that there was a meteor shower that night only made it better.

"Tonight has been wonderful. Thank you." She whispered tenderly as she brushed the back of his hand with her fingertips.
