I'm inclined to say they both insist it was the other guy but Trimmer is the guy who like, climbed up Rich either out of panic or complaining the whole way needing to fix a light in their shitty hallway

roach — i feel like they did the Scared Primate Clutch the first time and grabbed each other and then given their relative masses it ended up with rich holding trimmer like a kitty

Dude I saw the crap you were getting about your (EXTREMELY good and powerful in a very positive way) comic about how humans are predators so I wanted to send you some positive thoughts about it.

Humans being predators is what got us domesticating animals in the first place. Tens of thousands of years ago, our first domesticated animal was the dog. Hunters and their dogs brought home food for their families. When herd animals were domesticated, dogs helped us herd them.

Dogs hone their predatory skills with play, and this lead to something that makes me SO HAPPY AND WARM thinking about. Thousands and thousands of years ago, a caveman saw a dog tossing a stick around and chasing it, saw how much fun they were having, and had the idea to use their opposable thumbs and optimal throwing proportions to pick up the stick and throw it for the dog.

Man’s best friend.

And yeah, you're right, without us being predators, we wouldn't have really a reason to domesticate anything. We genuinely make the lives of the animals we domesticate better. They live long happy lives, and while there are some bad practices we use nowadays (factory farmed eggs are not the best), in general, we love and care for the animals we farm.

Because a well cared for animal is a healthy one.

Dogs being one of the very first animals we ever looked at and thought "friend" to may have started off as something perhaps even selfish, but look at them now, look at us now, and tell me that there isn't a benefit? Tell me that humans aren't happier with dogs around, tell me that dogs aren't happier with people around?

Tell me that man's best friend isn't loved and cherished?

One thing I fear about Trump winning, among 100 other things, is the continuing erosion of trust between men and women. Specifically, I could imagine single, liberal women in the US just deciding not to give any guy (even if they're anti-Trump) a chance.

Do you think this is a real possibility?

Yes, I do think it's a real possibility, although just a small bump along the trend I suspect we are sliding along where young/young-ish women seem less likely to value being in a relationship with a man. It's not even in the top 20 reasons for concern about the Trump victory, but it's probably a thing (albeit a fairly subtle one that would be hard to prove is really happening).

I suppose if a guy is vocally anti-Trump in the right ways, such a trend might not affect him anyway. (Although, as with guys who are really vocally feminist, some women must get suspicious about virtue-signalling what should be equivalent to "being a decent person", and I wouldn't blame them.) I don't know about those of us who are anti-Trump but in a "sometimes anti-Trump people overreact or take some things he says out of context or catastrophize about him in counterproductive ways, and by the way he's most likely not going to actually do anything much to further restrict abortion" way.

Hello! Not sure if you answer asks like this but I was curious if you'd be willing to share your thoughts/opinions on the characters that were at one point considered to be party members (the ones that can be added to your party through cheats)? Also, is there somebody else not on the list that you'd like to have seen made playable?

Sorry it took me so long to get to this. I wanted to give a coherent answer without rambling too much but I probably did that anyway so I'm just going to post this as-is.

It's a shame we never got to use characters like Zane, Cairn, Cross and others in our party but I understand the reasons for removing them--most of them story-related.

It would have been cool for Jack to have been able to recruit his dad after beating him in the bonus dungeon and for Zane to have a more combative involvement in the nonhuman path and they likely could have made that happen. I know that Nogueira's and Hap's death would get in the way of them joining your friends list for the entirety of the game but at least Nogueira could have been a temporary, one-time-only party member for the blood orc fight similar to how Dynas briefly joins your party for the wind dragon fight even though he dies later on in the path. It's unfortunate that because of this, we never get a friendbook entry for any of these characters.

As you may (or may not) know, you can hack pretty much any character into your party--it's just that some don't necessarily have the ability to fight or take damage. Take Belflower for instance. She and a lot of the castlefolk who aren't equipped to fight and will just call guards if you kick them can't do anything in battle. They just stand there. However, there's a 5th party member slot most don't know about. You can't see their stats or command them in battle but they will still be in your party and will just act independently. James believes that this invisible 5th member slot was intended to be a passive role escort missions like the one involving Belflower. Even still, it would have been interesting to see her try and fight. I'm sure she'd be totally incompetent but regardless.

I also wish all characters had volties they could unlock rather than just a few.

I do really appreciate that you care about the humane and respectful treatment of animals, it is a wonderful trait for a person to have that they consider the well-being of animals, and I do mean to send this ask in good-faith, and I don't mean for this to come across as judgmental, I only mean this as a conversation in response to your post. So, while it's true that humans have historically been hunters, our understanding of ethics, empathy, and sustainability has evolved to a point where we can recognize that basing our behavior on animal actions or the historic human role as predators can lead to moral inconsistencies. Today, for many of us, we have the ability to choose diets and lifestyles that do not involve the exploitation of or the taking of animal lives, especially considering the environmental and ethical concerns associated with animal agriculture. It is important that our care for animals extends beyond temporary respect before consumption, to a more compassionate approach that involves respecting their Rights of Life (life, liberty, happiness), and recognizing that they deserve to be able to live independently of our dietary choices. This approach aligns better with our current understanding of our ethical responsibilities as humans. Since humans have the capacity to reflect on the impacts of our actions this means that we can make conscious decisions to avoid causing harm as far as is reasonably possible when alternatives exist. The notion of "humane killing" is contradictory, especially when we have the option to nourish ourselves with plant-based diets that support animal welfare and environmental sustainability, and the concept of "humane killing" is also often misunderstood, especially in the context of animal agriculture. True humanity involves acting in the best interests of others, and it is important to distinguish that there is a difference between euthanasia, which is to alleviate suffering when no other option is available, versus the slaughtering of animals for consumption, which is done for human benefit, not the animal's, and this slaughter of them is something that does not need to happen for many of us, since it is possible that we can omit animal products and still live healthily and thrive. Even practices labeled as "humane slaughter" involve fear, anxiety, and physical suffering for the animals. Labeling the killing of animals who do not want to die and are not suffering as "humane" misrepresents the reality of their experiences and ignores the fundamental respect for life, and "befriending" someone in order to get them comfortable before killing them is not a true befriending or show of respect or kindness. With how you mentioned that you also believe that treating animals humanely and with respect is important, I would really like to encourage you to examine it further to what it truly means to show humanity and respect towards others and why it is important to include the well-being and lives of animals in that consideration.

Dude… I am not reading all of that… from what I’ve skimmed, you’re not happy over the fact that I eat meat as well as say we should care for the animals we eat/hunt.

I’m not changing my diet because that makes you uncomfortable, if you want to be vegetarian or vegan, go for it. But humans are meant to eat meat, it’s necessary for our health, I have never met a vegan or vegetarian who was legitimately healthy. Now are there some people who can’t eat meat for whatever reason? Sure, but those are the outliers that prove the rule, not the other way around.

Humans are meant to eat meat along with fruits, grains, and basically anything else that is edible. While we may not have been originally made to eat animals, we do now, and need to now.

Humans are predators, and your uncomfortableness with that doesn’t change that it’s a fact. And I’d rather be a predator that cares for my prey to the best of my ability, so that they can have a good and happy life, before I consume them. Not only because I genuinely do care for the animal, but because a happy animal serendipitously makes better tasting meat.
