Transgender vegan cultleader tied to a killing spree. What in the Jerry Springer?
20 February 2025 By Mike Wendling

Jack Lasota pictured in a California mugshot dating from 2019
A cult-like US group known as Zizians has been linked to a string of murders, sparking several arrests – who are the people behind this group and what do they believe?
Jack Lasota, 34, who allegedly leads a group of a few dozen followers known as Zizians, was arrested on Sunday alongside Michelle Zajko, 32, and Daniel Blank, 26, on charges including trespassing and obstruction.
Authorities say they are investigating at least six killings across the US that are allegedly connected to members of the group, including a double homicide in Pennsylvania, a knife attack in California, and the shooting of a US border guard in January.
Three other alleged members of the group have already been charged with murder.
The origins of the group
Lasota, a transgender woman, is allegedly the leader of the group.
She earned a degree in computer science from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks in 2013 and, according to her blog, moved to the San Francisco area three years later.
There, she wrote that she applied for a series of jobs at tech companies and startups - including a brief internship with Nasa - and began to associate with people involved in the rationalist movement, an intellectual trend popular in Silicon Valley that emphasises the power of the human mind to see clear truth, eliminate bias and bad thinking, and improve individuals and society.
Lasota began blogging using the alias "Ziz", but soon fell out with mainstream rationalists as her writings spun off in bizarre directions.
The blog included posts of thousands of words, blending Lasota's personal experiences, theories about technology and philosophy, and esoteric comments about pop culture, computer coding and dozens of other subjects.
At one point, during a long diatribe about the TV series The Office, artificial intelligence and other subjects, she wrote: "I realized that I was no longer able to stand people. Not even rationalists anymore. And I would live the rest of my life completely alone, hiding my reaction to anyone it was useful to interact with. I had given up my ability to see beauty so I could see evil."
Other themes included veganism – total avoidance of any animal food or products – and anarchism.
In 2019 Lasota and three others were arrested while holding a protest outside an event held by a rationalist organisation. The last posts on her blog date from around this time.
False obituary
Over the next few years, Lasota and others would move around the US, according to reports, at one point living on a boat, and later staying on property owned by others in California and North Carolina.
In 2022, a warrant was issued when Lasota failed to show up for a court hearing, related to the protest outside the rationalist organisation meeting. But her lawyer at the time stated she was "now deceased after a boating accident in the San Francisco Bay area".
An obituary - noting that Lasota loved "adventure, friends and family, music, blueberries, biking, computer games and animals" - even appeared in an Alaska newspaper.
But the story was wrong: Lasota was still alive.
Jessica Taylor, an artificial intelligence researcher who says she knew several of the group members, told the Associated Press that Lasota and the Zizians stretched their rationalist beliefs to justify breaking laws.
"Stuff like thinking it's reasonable to avoid paying rent and defend oneself from being evicted," Taylor said.
Poulomi Saha, an associate professor at the University of California, Berkeley, who studies cults, says that while there is no strict legal definition of such a group, several of the Zizians' attributes align with the popular cultural conception of the term.
"This is a group of individuals that seem to share some unorthodox viewpoints," she said. "That in and of itself wouldn't open up them up to the cult label… but then there is this leadership figure 'Ziz.'"
Saha noted, however, that there is still significant uncertainty about the relationships between group members and about what may have motivated alleged acts of violence in recent years.
Escalating violence
Not long after the obituary was published, Lasota resurfaced along with other members of the group in Vallejo, California, which is north of San Francisco. Several members were living in vans and trucks on land owned by a man named Curtis Lind.
At some point the Zizians allegedly stopped paying rent, and Lind sued to evict them.
But the dispute escalated and in November 2022, Lind was attacked, stabbed 50 times and blinded in one eye. In an act of what police would later say is self-defence, he fired a gun, which killed Emma Borhanian, a former Google employee who was one of the Zizians and who had previously been arrested at the rationalist protest.
Two other members, Suri Dao and Somni Logencia, were arrested and charged with attempting to murder Lind. They remain in prison awaiting trial. Lasota was also at the scene of the attack, but was not charged with a crime.

The following month, two parents of a Zizian member were killed in a small Pennsylvania town.
Richard Zajko, 71, and his wife, Rita, 69, were found shot in the head in their home.
The Zajkos were the parents of Zizian member Michelle Zajko, who was briefly held by police but not charged with a crime.
Lasota was arrested and charged with obstructing law enforcement and disorderly conduct in connection with the incident.
The hunt continues
Despite the links to those two attacks, the group mostly flew under the radar without receiving much wider public attention until earlier this year.
On 17 January, Lind, the California landlord who had allegedly been attacked by members of the group, was killed.
Vallejo Police Department say he was stabbed to death by an assailant wearing a mask and black beanie.
Police later charged Maximilian Snyder with murder, and alleged that Snyder killed Lind in order to stop him from testifying during the attempted murder trial.
That was followed just a few days later by the killing of a US border patrol agent on the other side of the country.
Two Zizians, Teresa Youngblut and Felix Bauckholt, were pulled over by US Border Patrol Agent David Maland near the Canadian border in Vermont.
A firefight ensued. Bauckholt, a German citizen who also went by the name Ophelia, was killed in the shootout along with Maland.
Youngblut - who was previously known as Milo - was wounded and later arrested on firearms charges.
The shooting led to a wider hunt for members of the group after police said the gun used to kill Maland was bought by Michelle Zajko.

Fugitives captured
After the Vermont shootout, police in Pennsylvania said they had uncovered new evidence about the shooting of Zajko's parents, and Lasota was wanted for failing to appear at several court hearings.
The whereabouts of the pair were unknown until Sunday, when they were arrested with fellow group member Daniel Blank in Maryland.
A police report said a resident of Frostburg, about 160 miles (260km) north-west of Washington DC, had called police saying he wanted three "suspicious" people off his property after they asked to camp on his land for a month.
Maryland State Police said that the trio were charged with trespassing and obstruction, and that Lasota and Zajko were additionally charged with weapons violations. All three were denied bail.
A lawyer for Lasota, Daniel McGarrigle, declined to comment on the arrest but instead sent the BBC a statement he had previously issued about his client, saying: "I urge members of the press and the public to refrain from speculation and premature conclusions."

21-Year-Old Teresa Youngblut Linked to Zizians Charged with Killing of US Border Patrol Agent David Maland
A chilling shootout near the Canadian border in Vermont has unearthed dangerous ties to a cultlike group, bringing attention to an obscure but deadly network operating across state lines. The January 20, 2025, incident resulted in the death of Border Patrol agent David Maland and raised alarms about the growing threat posed by radicalized factions in the United States. At the heart of this…

Maximilian Snyder, a 22-year-old data scientist arrested in Northern California on Friday on suspicion of murder, and Teresa Youngblut, the 21-year-old computer science student charged last week in connection with the shooting death of U.S. Border Patrol Agent David Maland, appear to follow a fringe, self-described “vegan Sith” ideology that started in the Bay Area and has connections to violence, according to police records, an interview with a person familiar with the group, and years of social media and blog posts reviewed by Open Vallejo.

The apparent head of a radical transgender cult linked to six killings, including a U.S. Border Patrol agent, told a Maryland judge last week, "I haven’t done anything wrong" while pleading for access to vegan food behind bars.
"I might starve to death if you cannot answer me," Jack Amadeus LaSota, 34, who goes by "Ziz," told Judge Erich Bean during a bail hearing in Allegany County District Court in Maryland on Feb. 18, according to audio obtained by the San Francisco Chronicle. "I need the jail to be ordered for me to have a vegan diet. It’s more important than whatever this hearing is."
During the hearing, LaSota said at another point that releasing him on bail "may be a matter of survival if I don’t get vegan food. . . . I haven’t done anything wrong. I shouldn’t be here."
He continued, saying that he might be in a "mild state of delusion" due to a lack of vegan options in the Allegany County Detention Center and that he is not a flight risk since he is homeless.
ZIZIAN LEADER JACK LASOTA: WHO IS TRANSGENDER, VEGAN CULT HEAD LINKED TO BORDER AGENT KILLING?
LaSota and two other reported Zizian members, Michelle Jacqueline Zajko, 32, of Media, Pa., and Daniel Arthur Blank, 26, of Sacramento, Calif., were arrested on Feb. 16 in Maryland.
LaSota and his affiliates face multiple charges, including trespassing and possession of a handgun. Their arrests brought attention to the "Zizian" cult – a group of radical young people who mostly identify as transgender, who are known for their affinity for veganism and their link to violent killings.
The Zizians' violence was most recently linked to the Jan. 20 killing of Vermont Border Patrol Agent David Christopher Maland, 44.
During the hearing, Allegany County Attorney James Elliott described LaSota as someone who "appears to be the leader of an extremist group known as the Zizians. That group is tied to multiple homicides."
"It’s important to note Mr. LaSota has ties to Alaska, California, Vermont, [and] Pennsylvania at this point that the state is aware of," he said.
Fox News Digital has reached out to LaSota's public defender in Maryland, Rebecca Francoeur-Breeden.
Prosecutors in Vermont have charged one of LaSota’s associates, Teresa Youngblut, 21, in connection with a shootout that left Maland dead.
Youngblut was driving with German national Felix Bauckholt, also a reported member of the "Zizians," when the pair were pulled over by federal agents on Interstate 91 in Coventry, Vermont. According to police, the two opened fire on agents. Bauckholt was killed, and Youngblut was wounded. Youngblut has pleaded not guilty in the case.
Youngblut and Bauckholt used weapons purchased in Vermont by Zajko, authorities previously said.
VERMONT BORDER PATROL AGENT ALLEGEDLY KILLED BY GERMAN NATIONAL WORKED IN PENTAGON DURING 9/11: FAMILY
Zajko is also a "person of interest" in the 2022 deaths of her parents, Richard and Rita Zajko, in Media, Pa. No one has been charged in their killings, according to authorities.
The group exhibits cult behavior, according to Dar Dixon, an actor and the podcast host of "The Art of Being Dar," who shared his cult expertise with Fox News Digital.
"The thing that I noticed about this ‘Zizian’ cult is that it hits all the major points that will set somebody up to be involved in it. You've got transgender human beings, alright? You're dealing with sexuality. You're dealing with sexual identity, and you're dealing with sex. Anytime you do all those things, you've already got someone, as they say, by the tight and curlies," he said.
"The second thing is they were on a restrictive diet. In this case, they were vegan," he said. "So, when you start to mix in the sexual aspect, then with a restrictive diet, now what you're doing is behavior control."
Referencing cult expert Steven Hassan's BITE Model of Authoritarian Control, Dixon discussed how cults emotionally control their members.
"I'm sure there was a lot of sleep deprivation going on, also, which affects your thoughts, which affects your emotions, which also affects your behavior and your ability to take in and process information," he said.
"This is part of the emotional control. You're never allowed to feel your feelings or to discuss your feelings. If you don't step in line with the party line, you're immediately reprimanded, sometimes severely, either verbally or physically, or you're shunned."
"So, the culmination of sexual identity, food restriction, sleep restriction and emotional restriction, well, now I've got you," he said. "I own you. And I can take you any direction I want to take you now."

Progressives progress, thereby reaching ever more alarming extremes of moonbattery. Beyond the media, beyond the Democratic Party, beyond the Ivy League, beyond even most LGBT types you will find the Zizians. Being evil and insane, they are a threat to public safety:
The murder of a US Border Patrol agent near the Canadian border appears to be linked to a radical leftist trans militant cult accused of killings across the country. Around a week before the Jan. 20 attack, federal law enforcement had been surveilling German national Felix “Ophelia” Bauckholt and University of Washington student Teresa “Milo” Consuelo Youngblut.
Suspect and Possible Cult Member Makes Court Appearance In Vallejo Killing as Further Links Revealed to Other Murders
Just as they pretend to be members of the opposite sex, they play act as commandos, dressing in black tactical clothing. But it’s not all fun and games. On Inauguration Day, US Border Patrol Agent David Maland stopped their car in Coventry, Vermont. They killed him.
This could represent the tip of an iceberg of moonbat mayhem:
Authorities now say the guns used by Youngblut and Bauckholt are owned by a person of interest in other murders — and connected to a mysterious cult of transgender “geniuses” who follow a trans leader named Jack LaSota, also known by the alias “Ziz.”
Agents fired back, killing Bauckholt, who couldn’t figure out which bathroom to use but was a genius at math. High IQs are no defense against moonbattery. On the contrary, the smarter and more educated moonbats are, the deeper they can talk themselves into a realm of sheer psychosis.
Be sure to use the preferred pronouns “xe/xem/xyrs” when referring to Youngblut, computer science student at University of Washington. Her hoity-toity background includes attending the Lakeside School like Bill Gates.
Looks like we have encountered another manifestation of Trantifa:
Her social media account on BlueSky shows she followed some Antifa-aligned far-left accounts.
Youngblut’s plans to marry fellow Lakeside alumnus Maximilian Bentley Snyder have hit a snag:
Last week, Snyder, an “any pronouns” computer science whiz from a wealthy Seattle family, was arrested in Vallejo, Calif., for the murder of an elderly key witness set to testify in an upcoming attempted murder trial against alleged members of the trans extremist group.
Regarding the witness,
In November 2022, 82-year-old Curtis Lind narrowly survived an assassination attempt by three members of the “Ziz” group who were squatting on his property in Solano County, Calif. They impaled him with a sword and repeatedly stabbed him. Lind shot two of the assailants, killing Amir “Emma” Borhanian. He lost an eye in the attack and spent a month in the hospital.
Snyder is accused of slitting his throat afterward.
Leftist cults nest within each other like sinister Russian dolls, each representing a realm of still more profound depravity. LGBTism within liberalism, transsexualism within LGBTism, Trantifa within transsexualism, Zizians evidently within Trantifa.
Among the topics explored by cult leader Jack “Ziz” LaSota (a.k.a. “Andrea Phelps”) is transhumanism.”
On the positive side, Zizians are vegans, so they don’t offend the weather by eating the flesh of murdered animals.

CHI SONO GLI OVER 50 ?
Ve lo spiego subito:
- Sono gli adolescenti e i ragazzi degli anni 70 e 80;
- Sono quelli che uscivano in motorino d'inverno senza casco e con i capelli bagnati e arrivavano con le stalattiti di ghiaccio in testa;
- Sono quelli che si incontravano al "solito posto" perché nessuno aveva soldi per entrare al bar;
- Sono quelli che andavano minimo in due in motorino dopo aver messo insieme le monete per fare miscela;
- Sono quelli che la cosa più importante era trovarsi per la voglia di stare in compagnia;
-Sono quelli che si scambiavano i dischi preferiti;
-Sono quelli che durante le vacanze estive si cercavano un lavoretto per non chiedere soldi ai genitori;
-Sono quelli dell'autostop per sentirsi liberi;
- Sono gli sciami di ragazzi allegri e spensierati come oggi non se ne vedono più in giro;
-Sono quelli che....o tutti o nessuno;

A former Zizian cult member widely believed to have died by suicide is actually alive and hiding from the “dangerous” group, The Post can reveal.
Gwen Danielson was thought to have died in 2022 even by a lawyer representing her in an active case, but has instead been lying low at an undisclosed location.
Danielson — who, like many Zizians, is transgender and legally became a woman in 2017, according to court papers — still “fears for her life,” according to her father, Brett Danielson.
“She checks in regularly and I heard from her very recently but she’s not ready to come out of hiding just yet,” he told The Post.
Danielson split from the increasingly unhinged group of “rationalist” computer scientists over an argument within the group, according to her father.
“Their political ideology was that killing animals is just as violent as killing people and therefore everybody is guilty of violence,” he said.
“And that probably led some of them to a self-justification for their own propensity for violence.”
Authorities are investigating four killings across the US linked to various members of the loose-knit group, including a double homicide in Pennsylvania, a murder in California, and a shootout that left a US border guard dead in Vermont.
Jack “Ziz” LaSota, 34, who has been described as the leader of the group, was arrested on February 16 alongside Michelle Zajko, 32, and Daniel Blank, 26, in Maryland after they were seen trespassing, raising suspicion. A gun was found in their vehicle.
Prosecutors in different jurisdictions across the country are thought to be preparing further charges.
Zajko is a suspect in the murder of her parents in Pennsylvania but has not been charged in that case. Two others tied to the group are also in custody, both for murder.
Maximillian Snyder is charged over the Jan. 17 death of Curtis Lind, who had at one time let the group camp on his property, and Teresa Youngblut over the shooting of the David Maland, the Border Patrol guard, on Jan. 20. Youngblut has pleaded not guilty, while Snyder has yet to enter a plea.
Now that the apparent Zizian ringleaders are facing justice, Danielson’s father is hoping their family can move on.
“Hopefully [the recent arrests] are the end of their activities and those who really were somewhat innocently pulled into the vortex of this can get their lives straightened back out again.
“I’m hoping that this allows [Gwen] to come out of hiding, put things behind her and move on,” he added.
Brett said his understanding of why the Zizians mostly happen to be transgender or non-binary is that, as part of their “rationalism” interests, they believe taking estrogen led to “clearer thinking.”
“Gwen spoke a lot about the difference in the way of mental acuity with estrogen versus testosterone,” he told The Post.
The rumors of Danielson’s death started soon after LaSota was reported missing by his sister, who said he had gone overboard off a boat in the San Francisco Bay, according to court papers seen by The Post.
An extensive search by the Coast Guard could not find LaSota’s body and an obituary was published for him that stated he loved “adventure … music, blueberries, biking, computer games, and animals.”
Jerold Friedman, an attorney presenting both LaSota and Danielson on charges related to a protest they had staged in 2019, noted both were apparently dead from separate incidents at the time.
“Mr. Friedman believes that Ms. Danielson may have committed suicide and would like time to investigate,” a court order dated August 2022 read.
Friedman did not respond to a request for comment from The Post.
However, LaSota was found to be alive and arrested at a Pennsylvania hotel in January 2023 and questioned about the double homicide of Zajko’s parents.
He was eventually let go, but now stands charged with trespassing and obstruction as well as having a gun in a vehicle stemming from the Maryland arrest. A judge ordered LaSota, Zajko and Blank held without bail, describing them as flight risks.
LaSota’s current attorney, Daniel McGarrigle, declined to answer any questions regarding his client’s case.
Jessica Taylor, an artificial intelligence researcher who knew several of the group members, first met at least four Zizians around 2015 at the Center for Applied Rationality, an organization in the city which hosts workshops on cognitive science and “de-biasing” with a mission to “develop clear thinking for the sake of humanity’s future,” according to its website.
She told The Post the group had a “high death count” that included several suicides.
Two people in the group’s orbit who took their own lives were named Maia Pasek, who left a quasi-suicide note in 2018 referencing rational thought processes, and Jay Winterford — also known as Jacob Pekarek — a math and science graduate in 2021.
“I knew about the suicides in the group … but before [Lind was attacked and murdered] I didn’t generally have the sense they could be violent,” she said.
“Now I think they are a criminal gang.”
