hello all, it’s wonderful to be here. i’d love to introduce you all to bethanie whose mottos include ‘you ain’t done until i say you are’ and ‘if a man can do it, i can make it look easy’. i’m always down for plotting and love to get excited about practically anything. you can come and talk to me on discord if you’d prefer (silly goose#0914)

❂ bethanie was born in atlanta, georgia to marquis and nora robinson. her mother was a talented singer who preferred weddings but dabbled in performing at public events and clubs. her father, at the time of bethanie’s birth, was a young man taking his first steps into the NFL. 

❂ by the time bethanie was six, she’d already followed in her father’s footsteps and lived and breathed sports. she attended every game with her mother and was one of the loudest tiny voices in the crowd. shortly after her father’s fifth season with the falcons, the family moved to charlotte, nc when her father took up a new position as a starting linebacker for the carolina panthers.

❂ although not an american football player herself, bethanie also lived and breathed athletics and field hockey alongside her deep-rooted passion for american football. all-in-all... sport was (and remains) her passion. 

❂ there was nothing remarkable about the way bethanie grew up. she had two loving parents who supported her completely and she never had to need for much. she went to college with a scholarship for athletics but a series of injuries in her senior year saw her cut short from national success. by this time, her father had retired, entered the hall of fame and coached at the university of north carolina. in passing one thanksgiving, he mentioned that it should be something she considered.

❂ bethanie’s mother passed away when beth was 24 and she temporarily moved back in with her father to support him through the loss. months turned into years and the two became quite the team, beth supporting her father with his own job while working on the side. three years ago, her father told her that he’d got in touch with an old friend who knew of an opening in a small town called mapleview. just a high school position but a chance to change lives... bethanie took it and made the move.

THEN:

atlas is born and raised in mapleview, been here his whole life, his family has been here for several generations and the name is very respected. his grandparents were very involved in town politics and stuff

his parents are the town’s weirdos like they’re very open, very fun, were definitely hippies once upon a time and still kinda live by that. everyone who’s met them and are friends of atlas’ are adopted by the holmes’ now. i don’t make the rules

atlas has an older brother, orion, yes his parents had a theme, and after they got him things became really hard for two ppl who weren’t really used to taking responsibility. they started using a lot and whilst they were always very loving, they also tended to unintentionally neglect their son

things got worse when atlas came around, definitely a mistake and his parents tried their best to fit him into their lives, but there really was no room for children in their then current lifestyle

a long custody battle erupted between atlas’s parents and atlas’s grandparents. most of atlas’ early childhood was spent bouncing between them, but at 7 his grandparents won custody over him. orion, 14 at the time, got to stay with their parents

his grandparents were a literal nightmare, very religious people, atlas was not allowed to do pretty much anything he wanted to do and was expected to be the perfect grandson at all times. any mistake was punished, any time he spent w friends outside of school hours were punished. that didn’t stop him from sneaking out to hang out w lane tho

he was very often physically abused, would show up with new wounds and bruises every week at school, but would ofc blame it on being clumsy etc etc. it’s a small town so some people definitely had an inkling

at 13, atlas had a fight with his grandfather which resulted in a kitchen knife in his chest, a sudden but deliberate action not meant to kill, but definitely to harm. he was hospitalized for a week and it was then he was given back to his parents as his grandparents would never see him or any family again really. today atlas has a scar, but no other wounds/ailments (except the trauma).

his parents really did their best all those years to get him back, but in a town where atlas’ grandparents were so influential very few wanted to get on their bad side — and who would believe a reckless couple who couldn’t care for their own children after all?

NOW:

the holmes-case got a LOT of attention not just in mapleview, but nationally. it was a huge scandal, a heartbreaking case, one of the biggest court cases the town had seen. atlas doesn’t like to talk about it simply because he doesn’t wanna be pitied or defined by it. of course, he’s never going to escape it entirely

after atlas moved to chestnut drive at 19 to live by himself, his parents moved out of town and have opened a fox sanctuary where they save foxes from fur farms. they have about 15 foxes in total and atlas has a large outer area at his own place for his own pet fox, malakai

loves his parents, doesn’t get along w his brother bc atlas is lowkey bitter and has trust issues

works as a vet intern just outside of town and loves his job

PERSONALITY / MISC:

atlas is a really chill and respectful dude, gets along w everyone for the most part. be nice to him and he’s nice to you, it’s always been that simple

he’s pretty logical and intelligent, has a tendency to let that rule over his feelings tho

does not shy away from physical touch, if you need a hug or some cuddle time he’s got your back

not the most gregarious type, he’s quite the introvert, but he makes exceptions if u get close to him

has a lot of respect for animals and the environment. there lives a tiny sjw within him

loves nature!! wants to live in the woods. hozier probably wrote a song about him

atlas struggles with (rarely, but it happens) anger issues. he never learned how to deal with his emotions and when he was finally back in a loving home the only thing he dared to feel was anger — anger that a whole system let him down

he smokes a LOT of weed, it helps him calm down

ABOUT JAKE | STATS

jake grew up in a home filled with nothing but love. as the only child of andrew and sarah, he was spoiled rotten ( but in the nicest way possible ). 

a lot of his personality comes from his father, a retired comedian, that taught him having a good sense of humor and looking at life from a positive perspective were truly the most important things.

as a teenager, jake was very focused and centered when it came to his academic life, something his mother taught him. he wasn’t a party guy but he definitely was known around as the funny guy or the dorky guy that everyone seemed to loved.

he met his future wife, leah, when he was just seventeen and if you ask him about it, he’ll obviously describe it as love at first sight. their connection was instant and it didn’t take long before the two started dating.

the lovebirds married soon after graduation and started their lives together. a few years later, their first son came as a surprise but still very loved nonetheless. that wasn’t a hardship for the young lovers, they pulled through together as a family whilst raising a baby and being college students.

life in the horowitz household wasn’t always perfect, jake can acknowledge that, but it pretty damn near to it. with their degrees, the two soon were able to stabilize themselves and build a real home on the house he still lives in to this day at sycamore way.

about four years ago, leah surprisingly found out she was expecting. even if it was somewhat of a risky pregnancy, she decided to go through with it and jake obviously supported her choice. at the time of delivery, a beautiful baby girl was born but unfortunately, leah lost too much blood and passed away

the year that followed was probably the hardest in jake’s life. mourning the loss of the love of his life while raising a son and caring for a baby as well as having a full time job wasn’t easy in the least -- he’s just glad he had his friends and his parents to help him out.

obviously, jake bounced back. even if he missed her dearly, he knew he had to pull through for the sake of his children. and that he did with a full smile on his face and his optimistic view of life intact.

Nathaniel grew up in Mapleview, North Carolina in foster care, going from home to home. His birth mother had her rights removed when he was four years old, and vague memories remain of her. He also has a brother, two years younger than him. 

His birth mother was a drug addict and he carries resentment for her, even now. 

He has horror stories of some of his foster homes, and he had behavioral issues as a kid and they simply couldn’t deal with him and he continued to flit from home to home. 

He felt/feels very lost in life.

When he was thirteen, he and his brother found each other again and were adopted into a permanent home by Elisabeth and James Blackwood. They sought therapy for Nathaniel’s behavioral issues, such as screaming, sneaking alcohol, etc. and these slowly stopped being a problem.

His adoptive mother, as he came to discover, has bipolar disorder, which explained how she would be on top of the world for a few weeks and then very down and laying in bed for another few weeks. Nathaniel sometimes wonders if he has bipolar disorder as well. 

Nonetheless, the two adoptive parents made the home a welcoming, loving space for the two brothers. Music, books, animals, art, and food surrounded them. 

Went to college for graphic design, and later decided to become a tattoo artist. 

He now lives in a home on Sycamore Way and is a tattoo artist with a dog.

BACKGROUND

born three years after his older brother, atticus was brought into what seemed to be a happy, stereotypical “ everyday ” family  - yet by the age of two karissa and heath maitland’s mariage was anything but a joyous one. to the outside world the maitland family were the one’s that would be there whenever someone needed a helping hand, would be the first to put their hand up for community activities, be seen smiling and have no qualms. behind closed doors, however, that was not the case. 

atticus grew up with his mother and father arguing profusely or even barely speaking to each other on a regular basis. there were times that they got along, of course, but atticus always looks back on his childhood filled with tension. like he was walking on eggshells. the most he had fun with his family was when they went on holidays or were out and about in general, simply because his parents would put on an act. dare anybody in mapleview know what was going on between them. 

when atticus began to find his voice, he began to step in when his parents would argue; telling them to stop though it would only get him so far. sometimes they wouldn’t hear him when he was very young, or they would demand him go to his room and they were having an adult discussion. as time went on, karissa would back down and she, atticus and his brother would often go for a walk together. they would often talk about everything about anything, would find something to do together and she soon became his favourite person. 

when it came to school, he went through phases of loving it, then hating it and then coming around to loving it again. this didn’t change much all the way through to the end of high school. there was a lot he liked about school as he got older - mainly because he could get out of the house and talk to people, find new things to do and explore new interests. some interests his parents wouldn’t be too happy to hear about, like getting his first stick and poke tattoo at sixteen in his best friends basement.

around the start of his final year of high school, a fight between karissa and heath broke out as per normal in the early hours of the morning. it had woken atticus from the slamming of doors and screaming between them, but what took him from his bed was the sound of their family car leaving the driveway. he doesn’t ever remember seeing his mother cry before that point, and seeing her sitting on the back porch in the moonlight trying to muffle her crying broke him. 

turns out heath had been had been having an affair, and it wasn’t the first time he had cheated on karissa. it had happened when he was seven, though they had agreed to work through it for the two boys - much to atticus’ disgust. he sat with her that night, and although she didn’t want to to begin with, she let him comfort her and she talked about it all to him. 

by the end of his senior year, his parents had were living in separate houses and filling for divorce. and atticus was all for it as much as it hurt him. he knew it would be for the best. they couldn’t stay together any longer and the fact they stayed together for him and his brother riddled him with guilt. not only did he feel guilty for being the reason they stayed together, he also felt bad for how people would’ve seen their family after the divorce was finalized. 

COLLEGE/TEACHING

atticus went straight to college, not wanting to muck around and waste time in getting his degree. he studies hard, but that didn’t mean he didn’t party hard. one third of college was spent drunk/hungover, another was spent with his head in the books and the other was on practical work placement. the minute he stepped into a classroom on his student teaching placement he knew there was no turning back ( not that the debt would be a deterrence ). 

he graduated at twenty-two, spent one school year as a teaching assistant at the elementary school and applied the year of his twenty-forth birthday. luckily, he got the job as a kindergarten teacher. this will be his third year teaching kindergarten. 

atticus has always loved children and has always been interested in the idea of teaching, specifically younger children. he loves always learning new things, which teaching can certainly do for him, but mainly he wants to be able to impact the lives of children in a positive way and make a difference. children are the leaders of tomorrow and if he can make that difference, make a child smile or make coming to school fun, then he feels like he’s accomplished something in his life. he knows that he remembers his teachers that made him feel like he could do anything and be who he wanted to be. not only that, but he certainly needed a positive adult figure at that age when home life was filled with such tension.  

PRESENT

at the moment, atticus is renting a nice little house in chestnut drive while he saves for his own house. he is very comfortable with who he is and whoever thinks otherwise is free to their opinion, but he doesn’t care for it. 

he is not on speaking turns with his father, and hasn’t been since mid college. he would rather chew off his own arm than speak to him. atticus is well aware he is holding a gruge, but he doesn’t care; maybe in ten years time he’ll loosen up but not any time soon. thankfully, heath moved out of town so not speaking to him makes it easier.

this is all i have for now but let’s build on this by plots!

PERSONALITY

atticus can have a lot of fun, you just have to get him in the right mood. he won’t go out for night on the town if he’s feeling low because he’s just going to have a depressive come down and how self destructive he can be. he had his reckless days, and he’s more aware of the consequences his actions cause. 

with that being said! he’s very social, loves to talk as long as it’s not about himself too deeply. will be that guy that won’t leave you sitting alone and will engage in conversation with anyone about almost anything.

his moods can be very up and down, leaving him to be very unpredictable. one week he’ll be very happy and cheery and the next he’ll be extra reserved, keeping to himself and his thoughts. 

atticus keeps people at a distance and will be very suspicious of those he doesn’t know. there are times he honestly wishes he could be a mind reader because it would put him at ease ( at least a little bit ). it takes him a long time to warm up to people and when he does, he forms very deep connections with them. he has a lot of people he knows, but few close friends. 

touching on that, he will do just about anything for those he cares for. he is vengeful, cunning and will bide his time to take out his payback if need be if someone hurts his loved ones. he will always keep his job in the back of his mind, and if he needs to, he will get someone to do his dirty work for him ( don’t come at me for it ). when he cares for you, you’re basically like family to him. 

he is a very caring, loving gentleman and affectionate deep in his core. whenever a child comes in upset, after making sure the class is working away in groups, he’ll talk to them. or whenever they’re hurt, he’s the first one they call over. in his personal life, atticus is definitely the person you can ring in the middle of the night if you need help and he will be there one he’s made a quick instant coffee for the both of you. 

very very passionate about his job! atticus stays up late some nights looking for new work ideas, stays back late to hang up artwork, is in early more often than not to make sure the classroom is set up just right. 

he loves to express himself through his clothes; wearing colours and patterns and flared pants. much like harry but tries not to go too over the top for the workplace. catch him after work showing off those tattoos ( that i will write about on his stats page ) with low cut tops and patterned vests, or silk pants, ruffled blouses. that is where his money goes.

alonzo  was  born  in  a  south  american  country:  chile.  his  parents  &  a  9-month  old  baby  boy  moved  to  the  united  states  —  and  had  grown  fond  of  the  small  town  by  the  name  of  𝒎𝒂𝒑𝒍𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒆𝒘  &  stayed  ever  since.  mom  and  dad  never  had  another  child;  it  was  the  three  of  them  against  the  world,  or  that’s  what  it  felt  like  for  the  first  couple  of  years.  they  did  everything  they  could  to  raise  him  in  a  land with  better  opportunities.

growing  up,  he  was  a  decent  student  with  passing  grades:  mostly  b’s,  c’s  and  the  occasional  a’s  (  which  called  for  small  victories  with  chilean  desserts  and  a  milkshake  ).  alonzo  improved  the  more  he  attended  tutoring  sessions.  they  expected  more  from  him...  obviously.  as  one  parent  does.  his  strongest  subject  was  mathematics.  long  story  short,  he  tried  his  best  with  everything  he  did.

during  his  senior  year,  his  parents  noticed  that  since  math  was  his  strong  suit  so  they  suggested  he  should  get  into  an  architecture  degree—this  was  one  of  the  few  times  where  he  actually  agreed  with  his parents.  he  applied  to  several  universities  and  one  of  them  was:  usc  school  of  architecture.  let’s  just  say  he  couldn’t  let  this  opportunity  pass.  so  long,  mapleview;  hello  california  !  off  he  went.

several  years  had  passed,  alonzo  graduated  from  USC  with  a  bachelor’s  degree  in  architectural  design.  after  that,  he  spent  some  of  his  years   away  from  his  hometown,  living  in  california,  earning  himself  an  internship  with  a  top  tier  design  studio.  he  never  saw  it  coming.  he’d  worked  too  hard  to  be  where  he  was  and  he  wanted  more;  accomplish  more  than  he  sought  out  for.

of  course,  he’d  visit  his  parents  for  some  time  in  the  holidays  or  surprising  them  with  a  visit—  helping  them  with  anything  and  everything  they  needed.  he  felt  like  he  owed  it  to  them.

alonzo  met  his  future  ex-wife  while  she  was  an  intern.  they  got  on  very  well—  started  off  as  friends  until  they  eventually  fell  in  love  with  each  other.  it  was  bliss  and  married  only  a  year  and  a  half  after  dating.  they  decided  to  move  to  mapleview  after  he  found  out  his  mom  fell  ill.

alonzo  was  a  small  town  boy,  then  a  big  city  guy...  and  back  to  a  small  town  dude  a  little  over  a  decade  ago.  however,  the  circumstances  were  that  of  his  mother  and  his  responsibility  was  to  care  for  her,  look  after  her.  alonzo  was  eternally  grateful  that  she  supported  him.  no  matter  the  amount  of  struggles  they  had,  looking  after  his  mom,  it  was  always  rough  for  him...  all  of  them.

alonzo  and  pia  eventually  had  a  daughter,  elena.  not  only  was  he  a  busy  man  but  as  soon  as  he  became  a  father,  he  made  every  fiber  of  his  being  to  be  as  hands-on  &  100%  present  as  possible.  sure,  there  were  obstacles  along  the  way,  but  alonzo  sure  made  the  effort.  thankfully,  his  parents  and  his  mother  was  still  alive  to  welcome  their  first  grandchild  into  the  world—  still  pushing  through.  unfortunately,  some  years  later,  she  had  lost  her  battle  with  cancer.

alonzo  and  pia’s  marriage  started  to  deteriorate  and  decided  to  divorce.  they  had  found  out  she  had  fallen  pregnant  with  their  second  child,  a  son  by  name  of  mateo.  before  he  was  born,  they  decided  to  stay  together.  shortly  after  his  birth,  they  couldn’t  stay  together  just  for  the  kids.  they  amicably  decided  to  split  and  co-parent  their  kids.  he  and  his  ex-wife  remain  friends  to  this  day,  four  years  after  their  divorce.

adopted at a young age, natalie grew up on fair lane as part of a family that comes from old money. ( think rockefellers, fords, etc... it was all very stuffy, to say the least. )

put simply, natalie’s not too fond of her childhood. she always felt out of place in her upbringing. with a seemingly perfect older sister and by-the-books parents, nat’s impulsive, out-there nature clashed often with what was expected of her. she made a lot of mistakes, and many went unforgiven. 

as she grew older, it became more and more apparent that, well, she was the family disappointment. ( once she turned 16, her parents weren’t really afraid to communicate that to her either. ) taking her standing in stride, she moved out upon high school graduation, ditched college ( the one that her family wanted her oh-so badly to attend ), and started supporting herself independently.

natalie would never admit it aloud, but she harbors a lot of guilt surrounding her family situation. it doesn’t help that the town is teeny-tiny, and she seems to run into them ( or friends of theirs ) wherever she goes.

natalie LOVES her job. it’s the only one, so far, where her constant spontaneity has been appreciated. turns out, including a wrong but pretty flower in a bouquet is much better than putting a twist on a regular coffee order ( in her defense, the guy no doubt needed that splash of bailey’s in there anyway ). 

honestly, she would probably do very well in a city but has no desire to leave mapleview. even though her family would seem like reason enough to drive her away, nat feels like mapleview is her place. mike grew up being an only child, and always around the company of his mother in their house. his father was always traveling back and forth from korea to the states for work.

his parents have met at work on one of his father’s trips to the states, and they fell in love. his mother being american-born, she couldn’t really leave philadelphia. she loved it there. so they decided to keep it a long distance relationship. 

sometime during those fleeting meetings, she had gotten pregnant with michael. and of course, his father spoiled them both, giving them everything they wanted. he never left them to fend for themselves.

when the boy was born, his father named him myungjun, and his mother decided to name him michael for his english name. the nicknames jun, mike, and sometimes junnie were often heard whenever his parents or childhood friends called him. 

up until mike was five years old in 2005, he’s lived with his mother, with his father leaving and coming back for a week or two. but that year, he’s finally moved to the states and stayed with them for longer nights. he even finally married michael’s mother. of course, he still disappeared for a few days or weeks on end for work. 

but that was also the year michael’s mother found out that his father was with another woman. michael has never seen his mother break down like that before. sadly, the young boy was peering into the room when the fight happened and witnessed everything. his mother made her partner choose between the two women, and he eventually told her that he was going to divorce his first wife for her, and appeared to have gone through with his promise. because after that incident, he’s been around more often. 

michael has grown up as a cheerful and energetic child. his friends at school would tell you how much of a great friend he is, how trustworthy and caring he is. it was so easy for him to make friends anywhere. he was the type of friend how would smile at you and listen to you talk on and on about whatever you liked, and the type who would cheer you on with anything you want to achieve. he wanted everyone to feel included and loved. 

little did his friends and family know that internally he was a depressed mess. of course, no one is completely happy as they grow up. his family was a mess, even if it appeared as fine to everyone else. mike sometimes could disappear for a few days in his room, and it was always during some of his bad spells. 

what made it worse was the day he found out the truth. 

it was 2017 when michael walked into his father’s office in their house, looking for him to ask him about something. and instead of finding the man, he found a stack of papers poking from underneath his father’s laptop. upon closer look, they appeared to be divorce papers. michael’s heart sunk, thinking his parents were breaking it off. 

michael is a curious kid, he couldn’t help but close the door and read the papers. but what he saw wasn’t his mother’s name, it was another woman. his heart raced, as he put things back where they were and immediately left the room. michael had found out one of his father’s many secrets. he never divorced his first wife all those years ago. he lied and stayed with both women. 

michael couldn’t help his curiosity. he came back to the room later that night and snapped as many pictures as he could of evidence he could find. he even found his father’s phone (which was easy to figure out the password of) and found a plethora of pictures of the man with a different family, different kids and a different partner. he airdropped the pictures to himself to avoid leaving any traces behind and quickly left again. 

a quick search on facebook, and he managed to find the first wife. it was easy with the name and pictures he had. if anything, michael prided himself on being a good internet detective... or stalker. he spent everyday trying to find the rest of the family on the internet. he found the woman’s young daughter on instagram and twitter, along with her older son’s ( @daniclmoon​ ) accounts as well. 

it was a constant “now what?” for michael. he’s found them. what was he going to do now? he couldn’t just message them and tell them everything. and he couldn’t break his mother’s heart by letting her know. 

except he had to let her know. he could never live with the fact that he knew his father was betraying her this entire time. and so michael told her everything, and after comforting her all night when she broke down yet again, she immediately ended things and asked for a divorce. now it was just michael and his mother, all alone. and for once, having to get by on their own. 

thankfully they were safe, with his mother’s amazing money management skills, and a new, better job, they managed to live their regular lives despite the heavy feeling of a broken family looming around them. the two just wanted to be happy again. 

michael spent the next few years trying to lead a normal life. his mental health had gotten worse after everything he’s found out. he went to college, and he continued trying to do well in school. he really wasn’t the best when it came to grades, but he was trying his best.

and truthfully, he couldn’t help but make a few spare accounts on some social medias to follow his father’s other family. 

by early 2020, he found out that they moved to mapleview, with the older brother daniel following behind in late july. michael didn’t know why, but his impulsivity made him look up the town and eventually secure himself a place to live there in a few months time. of course, his mother was confused on why he decided to move out suddenly, and michael claimed that he wanted to go to a university near town for computer science. of course, his mother wanted to support him and let him go. although she couldn’t handle her son’s move, having gotten using to living with him all of those years. 

michael simply wanted to meet this other side of the family, he wanted to get to know them. he’s always wanted siblings for his entire life, and to know that he had an older brother and sister and a younger sister was something so fascinating to him. 

little did he know, he was going to make the mistake of pretending he wasn’t related to them.

michael grew up around his mother with his father traveling a lot for work. when mike was 7, his mother found out his father was cheating and they almost broke up. he lied and said he would divorce his first wife to stay with her. years passed and in 2017, michael stumbled upon divorce papers on his father’s desk that he thought were for his parents. turns out, it for his father and another woman who he claimed he already divorced many years ago. michael ended up gathering information from his father’s office and internet stalking the family until he found out a lot about them. he didn’t have any malicious intent, since they appeared to not know about him. in 2020, he found out they moved to mapleview and ended up moving there too telling his mother that he was going to north carolina to study. he wanted to meet his father’s other family, but didn’t know that he would end up lying to them and pretending he wasn’t related to them.

Robin Abrams was born and raised in Mapleview, from an affluent enough family that money wasn’t a concern of his growing up. He was always a very devoted person to whatever he put his mind into and, while perhaps not always the funniest nor the funnest person to be around, he believed he did alright for himself.

He was in a pretty serious relationship as a teenager, one that eventually was responsible for the creation of his heart and soul, the apple of his eye, the twinkle of his other eye, also known as Penelope Abrams. He wasn’t terribly enthusiastic about marrying his high school sweetheart - they were only about 19 years old - but he agreed to their parents’ expectations. And it worked... for a little while. While they were still affectionate - and both more than fond of the life they’d created together - they both still felt too young to be married, too immature to deal with some things. Five years went on before they called it quits, and his ex moved to California, taking their girl along.

Robin’s focus went mostly into his studies - he had always wanted to go into law - while at the same time taking every breather he had to go and visit. He didn’t want Penelope to grow up resenting him, nor forgetting who he just so happened to be... after all, being an important and steady presence in her life was his number one goal. Even if he might sometimes resent the fact that he didn’t try harder to make the marriage work, his self-doubt on whether this was fair on her or not weighs heavily on him.

Neither of them expected to lose Penelope’s mother, however, and even though he at first hesitated between relocating to California to keep her life as stable as possible, it was the most sensible solution to take her back with him. To the place where he felt they both belonged to the most.

CHILDHOOD

vincent jasper desai-bowens was born and raised in mapleview to an irish dad and an indian mother. james and priya bowens moved to mapleview in 1979, not long after they got married. james soon found himself a job at the factory and they decided to build their family in the small town.

the couple welcomed their twins not too long after, the golden boy and the wonderful girl were both named after priya’s late parents -- amir and eva. that’s when the bowens’ started to settle down and james made the bold decision to make money from his passion for music, quitting his job at the factory and buying the music store in town.

but then nearly ten years later, priya got pregnant with their third child. it was a risky pregnancy, since she was almost in her forties. they welcomed a strong and healthy baby -- who was named after james’ father and personal hero, a brave man that fought in the war. they were living the dream. that was, until vincent grew up.

being the youngest of three was hard. especially when your parents' had great expectations for you and your siblings’ were fucking geniuses and you were just, well, you. vincent was never the brightest kid or even interested in anything. he was the kid who’d bite others for no reason, yell at the teachers and break toys. he was the worst possible kid a parent could want but once his teenage years rolled in, the bowens’ knew he was never going to change.

TEENAGEHOOD

by the time vincent got to high school, he started to finally make friends for the first time. that’s when he met adrien and tba, who later on became his best and only friends. the teenage version of vincent wasn’t much different from the kid version, only this time the rebellious acts were in different ways -- vincent stopped attending church, would spend more time in detention than in class and would even pick fights for the hell of it. but what was the last straw for his father was when the rumors of vincent using drugs started to run around town. of course, it wasn’t like he was doing hard drugs or anything, but the bowens were a respectable family in mapleview.

to say james was furious was an understatement. and during their last fight, he told vincent he didn’t deserve the name he got and he was a lost cause. that’s when he dropped the name and started going by jasper. that was also the night he ran from home. only sixteen, with nowhere to go and no money to his name. he never talked to his dad again after that.

his sister eva, not wanting him to turn into a homeless person, took him in. but it still hasn’t enough. jasper started getting into a darker path and eventually into heavy drugs. around that time, jasper and his friends found a man that was almost dead. they saved his life but it always stuck with him. he watched as his friends were moved by the act, but he felt nothing. the only desire he had was to deepen himself in drugs. it didn’t take long for jasper to drop out of school and get kicked out of his sister’s house. he then became known as mapleview’s junkie and the bowens’ black sheep -- if he wasn’t already.

ADULTHOOD & NOW

because of his addiction, jasper pretty much pushed out every single friend he ever had from his life, refusing to drag them into his mess. when he turned twenty-one, he was in and out of rehab like it was a hobby. but during one stay, he met someone. and that someone gave him hope.

jasper was in love with her and he actually saw himself having a future for the first time. the boy even got a job so they could shack up together. after a year of being together, they found out she was pregnant. but the dream didn’t last long, she had a spontaneous miscarriage and that’s when things went downhill again.

feeling guilty about what happened to her and thinking that somehow it was his fault, jasper left her and fled to los angeles. he doesn’t talk much about what his life was like there.

about two years ago, jasper’s mom reached out to him with news that his father had passed. she told him about the plan his older siblings had of selling the music store since they had no interest in it, obviously too busy with their own lives to care, and asked that he’d come home to take over the business. he’s been the owner since.

his return to mapleview was a shock to everyone who hadn’t seen or heard from him in years, most of which just assumed he had died or something. and to be honest, if it wasn’t for his mom, he’d never step foot in town again. the amount of trauma that jasper went through would be enough to break anyone, but he’s managing. well, not really. but he’s trying.

🌸       STORY.

letitia rhone, born in brooklyn, nyc. when she opens her eyes to the world, she finds herself in a house that does not belong to her really. perhaps that’s the very day her search starts. that’s when she starts to look into her soul to find who she really is because there is nobody else to tell her the story. at least nobody else that is willing to do it. letitia -or tia if you are close enough- grows up with her aunt who has sworn to never and ever tell letitia who her birth mother is and where she is right now. it’s a feeling she has, when she has her head on a pillow, and dark brown eyes are stuck to the ceiling. you don’t belong here. but sometimes it’s clearer. it's a fight between her aunt and her spouse. ‘i don’t want her in this house.’ ‘she doesn’t have anywhere else to go.’ ‘she doesn’t belong here.’

living in a house where voices behind closed doors whisper her she doesn't belong, all she has that feels like belongs to herself is her existence. so, she starts to ask the questions kids normally ask when they are older at a young age. ‘who am i ?’ ‘what are my roots ?’ ‘where do i belong ?’ ‘ will i ever belong ? ’ 

years pass by and every year she gets older, she is reminded of she has to get out of that house. leave it behind and start her own journey. to where ? well, she doesn’t know either but all she knows is she has to get out. that’s why when it’s time to seek higher education, she chooses a university that is as far as possible to her makeshift family -- and that day, the day they say goodbye to letitia before she leaves that house for the first time ever; they don’t know it’s going to be the last memory of hers that is left to them. 

years of university, letitia has her own moment of divine realization. maybe being rootless is not that bad. maybe she is lucky that she’ll never have something to leave behind. suddenly, the bitterness of desolation tastes like freedom. -- her chosen major is psychology. maybe it’s the years she spent trying to understand her true self that makes her want to understand the others too. before she discovers anything else, she rediscovers herself. her beliefs, her thoughts on politics, sexuality and gender. everything she learnt from the others, she relearns them by herself this time. these are the years she shapes who she is and for the first time, belonging is only about being in the right place at the right time. nowhere special.

when she graduates, she already has her own plan to execute. she won’t stay in anywhere too long. so she can meet more people, expand her soul more and always keep on learning. the stays in the cities and countries she visits after graduation are never longer than two years. the most tiring and yet essential experience, the journey. and there she is now, mapleview. the last stop. the only place that she feels tied to somehow. now, she is within her second year living in the town. who knows ? maybe this is going to be the first time she’ll exceed her usual limit of stay.

the macaulay-yang family , ever in their infamous nature , was where vale was born , the second bright spark in the lives of parents that adored her . in the early years her and her sibling got on like a house on fire . of course , all sibling-ships come with their disagreements , but it was never anything paxton and her couldn’t figure out over an ice-cream or a garfield re-run . using shopping carts as cars and defacing each other’s stuffed toys were actions all out of love . that was , until paxton came out and was spurned from the loving home of their parents . losing paxton ( for it seemed they were dead to her when they left ) was a punch in the gut , a hole in the heart . perhaps it wasn’t her right to be so upset and that’s a fault of her own , but losing a sibling in such a way seemed worse than losing them to death itself . at least you knew where you stood when arguing with the reaper . in vale’s case , she knew paxton was out there somewhere , somehow , and yet they weren’t there to reach out and grasp , to hold tight at night and beg for a bedtime story . she swore to herself then and there to never out herself as queer to their parents out of fear that the same may happen to her .

vale is impulsive , impressionistic and blindly trusting , which is not only stupid in the current climate but incredibly naive given the circumstances of mapleview and certain residents . for a girl that grew up close to her family and sheltered from hardship everybody is the good guy -- that is , of course , until they’re not . that’s the kicker . although she’s experienced a lot in her life she is by no means broken . if anything , being forcibly alone has allowed her to spread her wings and begin to forget the hurricane of a family dynamic she had once been caught up in . working at the laundromat means she’s able to lay low and hopefully avoid her sibling until the ‘ right ‘ time , whatever that might mean . the ghost of paxton remains above her even now , fighting the urge to text them whenever she picks up her phone and sees the contact number ( which is bound to be invalid now ) . the girl is bubbly albeit hot-headed , impulsive , whimsical and will break your heart if you let her , but isn’t that half of the fun ??

ABOUT MURPHY O’MALLEY

murphy o’malley was born on july 4th, 1995 in dublin, ireland. he comes from a very large family. he and his twin sister are the youngest of five, children. they have three older brothers. childhood in the o’malley’s was very different from others. his father was a mobster in a very prominent mob and all of his sons had to learn the trade. 

at a young age murphy didn’t realize stealing was wrong, because his father and siblings told him otherwise. in daycare he’d take the other kids toys cause he thought they were cool. or take toys from the school, just cause. he’d work his way up to bigger things as he got older

murphy was always jealous of his older brothers who were sent on tasks, while he’d be stuck at home. even though he was just ten years old he wanted to be a mobster so badly. in primary school he did manage to get kids to follow his commands, but everyone knew his father was a mobster and they were scared. holding so much power when he was just a kid was a lot of fun. murphy enjoyed bossing the kids around. 

once he entered high school that was when he started joining his brothers. while the three held higher ranks, he was just a solider. and that was when he realized the crimes they were committing. for himself and his brothers it was just making deliveries, picking up cash, assault, and other things as well. it hit him then that murphy wanted no part in this kind of crime. he’d much rather spend time with his mother. 

when murphy was able to get time away from his family, he’d go the bars. drinking would take the pain away from everything in his life. not only did he hate the fact the line of work he did sucked, he couldn’t get out of it. if he did his parents would disown him. on top of that he was gay. 

one time his father walked in on him with one of his boyfriends at the time. and instead of his father being rational and understanding he kicked out his boyfriend making sure they never had contact again. to be honest, murphy isn’t sure if his father did something worse to him. his father had set him up in an arranged marriage, to someone his father thinks he’ll like. 

murphy ended up in mapleview because he got into a fight with a rival mob, doing severe damage to the other. his family didn’t want him to go to jail so they gave him money to flee ireland. he came to mapleview because it seemed like a town nobody would find him in. he’s been living here for three months. he’s got a job at strings & things, and he’s really bad at his job. cannot sell any items to people, but he can clean very well. so he tries to do that.
