I went to The Raven Book Shop at Shrewsbury Markethall yesterday and they had a funny sign that made me laugh:

Space was at a premium and so, as the person working there told me, they “turned a problem into a feature!” (Just had to tell them how much I loved the sign)

It’s a fab secondhand bookshop in a market hall that is consistently voted Britain’s Favourite Market. Definitely recommend a visit if you’re ever in the area. Go hungry - there’s so much good food!

Latvia - Riga

I played tourist in Riga. Just strolling trough the old town, looked at historical building, visited churches and parks and learned a bit from its history. Not going to bore you with many details about Riga, what you could find in a better way online, but post some impressions on my walk trough the city, before i found a quite place for the night just at the bank of the river Daugava.

Book list!

I was tagged by @lilolilyr (thank you!! so fun!) to make a list of 100 books! I tried to focus on more recent reads, but added the occasional one from the past, that I enjoyed especially! But also there were quite a few I wanted to add that I couldn’t find on there :(. Those were mostly french/german books, and/or poetry/about marine animals. I don’t know if all of these count as favs. At first I had too little (I still don’t live in a dream place with a giant bookshelf lining a giant wall so I couldn’t just look there, but have many of my books in boxes :(), then I remembered fun books and had too many!

Tbh I could probably also make such a list of TBR books, I have so so many I didn’t read yet. I bought four more last week, when I was at a huge bookmarket. In the coolest markethalls! What was I supposed to do? Anyway, enough rambling, here it goes:

(The photo is from when I moved from that place I visited last week again with said bookmarket… this one was extraordinary but they had one every single day and when I moved away, I realized that this was a problem. This is just a small bit of that pile and entourage that you can see on here. yeah. but. you know. books.)

I had fun making this list, so I’ll tag people to also have fun, but no pressure! I just had the time and energy rn, which is amazing but not a given. Market Halls & Retainers

Retainers.

Not the kind you put in your mouth, but the kind that sells your goods in FFXIV.

1.0 had retainers as well, but they were much, much expanded.

Ever wondered in ARR why you customize your retainer, despite the fact you're the only person who sees them?

1.0 is the reason. In 1.0, your retainer would actually set up shop in these market halls. They are divided based on the category of goods you sell, and by talking to an NPC outside of the markethall, you get to go inside, walk around and talk to various players retainers.

You can even customize your retainer's stall with various items.

This sounds really cool and immersive, right? Why then do we have market boards in ARR instead?

Think about how much of a pain in the ass this is. There isn't really a way (that I could find at least, although I could be missing something), to search the retainers inventory as a shopper. So if you wanted, let's say bone chips, and only one retainer in the stall sell them, you'd have to find that one retainer to buy off of, as opposed to searching through a market board, or even the Auction House in XI.

Still, it's a cool system, but it just doesn't sound practical to me.

In case you are wondering about overflow, the market halls are instanced so that there's multiple version of each category's halls, similar to apartments.

It should also be noted that your retainers don't really do ventures in 1.0, they just sell things. I'm not sure if they have their own inventory like in ARR.

Hi tumblr!

Anyone here who lives or has traveled to Helsinki, Finland? Would like to hear some travel tips! I will be there from 21 October to 10 November (with colleagues). So far, my 'tourist' itinerary is mostly within Helsinki and are after the official business hours (so, museums and parks). Still want to go for a day trip outside the city on weekends.

Any place should I visit? Foods I shouldn't miss? Definitely excited about the moose and reindeer burger!
