LITERALLY just realised something, but congrats to Sylvain for living the Shadowhunters version of that time literally every teenager in the world wanted to date prince William. Talk about making your dreams come true.

I'm just so happy and grateful Matthew finally found some happiness with Sylvain, I hope we could have some clue about them being together for a long time in TWP, even just a tiny detail that can confirm they lived happily loving each other deeply

My TSC theory: A Sea Change is foreshadowing.

Why else would Cassie not only draw so many parallels between James and Sylvain, but actively have Matthew comment on them? Why else will she emphasize Lucas' recklessness, something he shares in common with Matthew? And most importantly, why would she give Sylvain and James the same impression of their respective parabatai at first- of reckless, troublesome creatures?

Now, it might just be that Matthew likes James more in the Blackstairs way. But if it were canonically true, Matthew would leave no stones unturned to make sure he punished himself for it. He'd pine over James too. We can't be sure he doesn't do that, but he doesn't seem to. But then again, the people around him are not the best observers.

I think Sylvain and Lucas are supposed to parallel James and Matthew. Now it might be the obvious antithesis, one pair held onto each other, the other was torn apart. But Cassie doesn't explicitly write in her parallels and have characters comment, not to my recollection. So, it might be foreshadowing, in the sense that as Sylvain lost Lucas, James will lose Matthew. Maybe not right now, but James will be the one left behind.

Remember the line in CHOG? There was this line by James: Matthew was like the air, living without him would not be possible (paraphrased). Also, Matthew likes his life now. Guess what happens to people who like their life in TSC? Yup.

You mean to TELL ME that after YEARS of "Matthew kissed/dated boys that reminded him of James because he couldn't kiss/date James" fanfics we literally have a CANON STORY where Matthew kisses a boy that looks like James, whose mannerisms remind him of James, and whom he was thinking sounded like James 0.2 seconds before they started kissing and making out????
