i was going to make a post that was just:
steve, watching took girls he used to be in love with kiss: *in the least creepy way possible* hell yeah :)
and in the tags i typed "steve being besties with all his exes" and then immediately thought of the fact that, yes, steve is friends with all his exes, EXCEPT for eddie
like, eddie and him have a quick summer fling or something, it burns hot and it burns FAST. but then, like in all relationships, they both change. they both start thinking of the ✨future✨ and... steve's not leaving hawkins anytime soon, you know? and eddie wants nothing more than to get out. but they're both attached, more than they thought they were, so it's not necessarily an amiable break. it's not horrible, they don't hate each other or anything. but there's lots of tears and a little bit of yelling, and then...
eddie leaves. and they never speak again.
and they think of each other, sure. in new partners, in new experiences, wondering what it might be like if— except that's not the reality anymore. they're NOT together anymore, so there's no sense in wondering, right?
except... they do. they do wonder, they do wish, they do miss each other, they still want each other. but that ship's sailed. he's moved on, they think. he's moved on and his happy with someone else.
and of course, that's when mike and el's wedding happens to everyone.

fairytalestappen part 4/5: the little mermaid
sorry for the delay in putting this part out, i've been feverishly writing the surprise brainworm that took over and is now a 21k fic that we'll be posting next week hehehehehe
please bear with me as a take about 1 million artistic liberties with the story of the little mermaid and also throw a bit of pirates of the caribbean in there
Tumblr media
max is the captain of a pirate ship. traumatic upbringing, very jaded and cynical, doesn't trust anyone but himself to do things. he stole a Navy ship and became a pirate and now he's feared and admired in equal measure as the famous pirate captain Mad Max and his ship is #UnleashTheLion
one day, Max's crew capture a mermaid in their fishing net, and they're planning to kill him and stuff him and sell him to a museum. Max is initially ambivalent, but then gets a look at the mermaid, and my god he's beautiful. tanned skin, messy brown hair, the most gorgeous green eyes you've ever seen in your life (and they're filling with tears, god how tragically gorgeous) and an exquisite red tail.
while the rest of the crew is below deck for some reason, and max is alone with the mermaid, he carefully extricates the mermaid from the net and the mermaid is like "what are you going to do to me," and max is kinda surprised bc he didn't know mermaids could talk but then max is like "im going to go up to the helm and turn my back, and if you somehow manage to escape from my restraints and jump back overboard, well there would be nothing i could do to stop you" and so the mermaid escapes and when max's men come back he puts on the performance of a lifetime claiming that the mermaid escaped.
this will Become Important Later but basically at some point when max is bantering with his crew, one of them sarcastically says "yes, your highness," in response to Max and the mermaid overhears this
fast forward a few months. charles, who of course was the mermaid, is a mermaid prince, the (adopted) son of the mermaid king, maurizio arrivabene. maurizio hates humans, so he doesn't let the mermaids go above water. but charles was always curious about humans, so he would venture closer to the surface, which is what led him to getting caught up in the pirate's net a few months ago. ever since that day, charles hasn't been able to stop thinking about the man who saved him, his blonde hair and blue eyes and his kind smile. charles keeps going to the surface to follow boats, hoping they'll be max's. maurizio finds out and gets really mad at charles and says he's never allowed to go to the surface again. cue a little but daddy i love him moment.
charles goes to the evil sea witch, busty mattia binotto, and begs him to help him. charles wants to become human and go to the surface, so that he can meet max and get to know him (and hopefully fall in love and be with him forever and ever). there's just one tiny insignficant miniscule infinitesimal complication. because of the joke that Max's crew made, and because of how beautiful and regal and commanding Max looked on his ship, Charles believes that Max is the prince of the nearby seaside kingdom.
mattia (evil, spineless, grotesque monster that he is) realizes that he has the prime opportunity to trick charles. he tells charles that he will give him legs and send him to the human world. all charles has to do is get the prince to fall in love with him, and kiss him before sunset on the third day. of course only mattia knows that the prince is actually not max but CARLOS (the man is the spitting image of prince eric so this fits perfectly). if charles fails, after the third day he'll become a mermaid again and he'll be mattia's servant FOREVER. also to parallel the little mermaid, mattia takes something of charles that’s quintessential to who he is and could help him to charm the prince: his DIMPLES.
okay wow so much exposition. let's get to the STORY. so dimple-less charles goes to the surface. he is so unsure and wobbly on his new legs, like a baby deer, and it's very endearing. he comes ashore in the port and heads to the local watering hole, Sir James' Tavern
charles is so curious about everything and he's chatting up the bartender, asking where the prince lives, etc. the bartender (jenson button for those wondering) gives him directions to the castle.
just then, who should enter sir james' tavern but pirate captain mad max and his crew, in port for a few days and wanting to relax and have a good time at their favorite local tavern!
charles cannot believe his luck! the prince has come to him, he doesn't even need to go to the palace! this is going to be a piece of cake. max doesn't seem to remember that charles is the mermaid whose life he saved (this is a bit unrealistic as who could forget charles' beauty but. just go with it) but they hit it off, go to a secluded table and drink together and its very charged and they are each halfway in love with the other already and they almost kiss BUT THEY ARE RUDELY INTERRUPTED!!! by fernando and george, two of max's crew, almost getting into a pub brawl over tavern wench alex. the scuffle draws the attention of some nearby guards, who try to intervene. max and his crew decide to get out of there because they are of course wanted men, and max doesn't get the chance to say goodbye to charles or to arrange to see him again, which is very devastating
however, charles is not bothered by it! he will just go to the palace the next day (thanks jenson for the directions) and he will find max and they can spend more time together! foolproof plan charles
charles goes to the palace, and the guards initially rebuff him, bc he looks a bit like a ruffian, very dirty and wearing scavenged clothes (although still beautiful). the guards are trying to turn him away when suddenly, prince carlos shows up and immediately (i'm talking IMMEDIATELY) falls in love with charles on the spot. he tells the guards to unhand him, because he must meet this man and marry him. charles doesn't understand; this man is the prince? what about beautiful max? charles tries to explain that he's looking for the OTHER prince, carlos' brother, no you don't understand, i'm looking for max, the other prince? nobody seems to know what he's talking about, and suddenly he's being escorted to a room where he bathes, and he's given nice clothes, and he has a lovely dinner with carlos and. wait a minute. carlos has decided they're GETTING MARRIED? no wait, you don't understand, i'm looking for the other prince!!
carlos tries to kiss charles many times, but each time charles avoids him, trying to explain that there's been some kind of misunderstanding, he can't marry carlos, he's in love with someone else.
also it should be noted here that, even though they aren't a big part of the story, flounder, scuttle, and sebastian are still charles' trusty sidekicks in this fairy tail. flounder is andrea ferrari, scuttle is joris, and sebastian is.......well, sebastian. he sings kiss the girl to try to get carlos and charles to successfully kiss, and he also gets chased around the palace kitchen by head chef mark webber, who is trying to cook him for dinner. anyway that's unimportant.
in order to make everything more romantic, carlos plans to have their wedding on a ship at sunset on the third day. they sail out, it's so beautiful, charles is in a white dress (against his will but he still looks very gorgeous). then suddenly, the shadow of a mast falls across the deck where the ceremony is taking place. its the dreaded pirate Mad Max and his ship #UnleashTheLion. the pirates board the ship and max rescues charles. they kiss just as the sun slips below the horizon.
mattia binotto rises from the deep and laughs very evilly. everything went according to plan, charles did not kiss carlos, and now he belongs to mattia FOREVER. he turns charles back into a mermaid, and at this point, max realizes that the mermaid he saved all those years ago is also this beautiful man that he's in love with!!!! mattia takes charles and vanishes.
max escapes from the royal ship and goes back to his pirate ship, being chased by the royal navy. he searches high and low for charles and mattia. eventually, mattia gets fed up with this annoying pirate, and causes a huge storm. max is a great sailor so he navigates the storm, and he's a man in love so he's not going to stop looking for charles.
fine, mattia will take matters into his own hands. he turns into a giant (still busty) sea witch and brings charles with him to the surface. he tries to kill max but max stabs mattia with the prow of the ship and mattia dies. good fucking riddance mattia binotto.
max and charles are reunited and profess their love for each other. max marvels that charles is the same mermaid he saved and charles thanks him for saving his life. they kiss. but how are they going to be together, when charles is still a mermaid, and max is a human?
that turns out to be the least of their problems. as mattia's storm clears, the royal navy are upon them. max has given up his freedom as a pirate on the open seas to rescue charles. max tells charles and the rest of his crew to save themselves, and he surrenders to the royal navy to save his crew.
charles is HEARTBROKEN. he only got but a brief moment with max before max was ripped away from him. and now, max is set to be hanged for being a pirate. charles CANNOT let that happen.
charles' adopted father (maurizio arrivabene if you've forgotten) sees how heartbroken charles is, and he realizes that he must set charles free, in order for him to truly be happy. he casts a magic spell with his magic trident and charles turns back into a human.
charles goes back to shore and he goes to sir james' tavern, determined to come up with a way to save max. he finds max's crew there, miserable because their captain is going to be hanged. charles gives an impassioned speech and rallies max's men, along with jenson of course, to come up with a plan to save max
it's the day of max's hanging. as the noose is fit around max's neck, suddenly, all hell breaks loose. max's men all throw off their disguises and begin dueling the palace guards, distracting them enough for a lithe and nimble figure to dart onto the dais, undo max's bindings, and drag him through the crowd to freedom. it's charles!!! he takes max back to sir james' tavern, tends to max's injuries, and they once again profess their undying love. turns out maurizio arrivabene has given charles a gift, a la H2O: when charles is on land (or on a ship mayhaps) he will be human, but when he's in the water, he can be a mermaid.
how convenient, as max and charles decide they will be pirate captains on max's ship, scavenging and pillaging and plundering and also fucking nasty in the captains cabin every night. and whenever charles wants to, either to visit his family, or talk to his sea creature friends, or help when the pirates are battling other ships, he can turn into a mermaid and go into the sea.
and thus they lived happily ever after and whenever they're in port they go to sir james' tavern to see bartender jenson button, and carlos eventually falls in love with and marries the tavern wench lando and its such a scandal that everyone forgets about that time that the prince’s fiance turned into a mermaid on their wedding day and then a sea witch kidnapped him and then he got rescued by a pirate who got captured and then the mermaid helped him escape.

Going through my room to pack for a move and I’m finding art of Ven-Ghan I made when I was in middle school (like 11-13 range) LOOOL.
Can’t even lie it makes me happy because like god this dude genuinely has been my favorite character ever. Mentally transmitting to my ten year old self watching his debut ep in 2014 that “no, it does not get better.”

i think sometimes fandom talks about barb as if coop is still in love w/her and that if g.houlcy is a thing by the time they catch up w/barb, if they catch up w/barb that it'll like?? make things weird or smth. and i mean. i'm not saying it wouldn't be some kinda awkward or uncomfy but like. it would be uncomfy whether g.houlcy happens or not. bc coop hasn't seen barb presumably in 220+ years. that's going to be fucking weird. but not like because of him being w/lucy. i just don't really see there being some unresolved tension or smth btwn coop/barb whether there's still love for barb or not (i think there is it's just not that kind of love)
but i think what bothers me most about this mindset is like. as fucking if lucy would be like. doing anything that would make that situation any more uncomfy than it already would be, y'know? like idt she's gonna be hanging on his arm while he goes to confront his ex-wife after 220 years trying to find out what happened to her/where she is. and idt lucy would even feel any sort of way about like. that whole situation. like if they're a thing by then and if she cares about him in any sort of way, i just don't really see her trying to get involved in any of that confrontation whatsoever. but idk. ig we'll see

srry homie for what im boutta do
for the au[other colors] i thought it would be cool to have klugs parents show up for a couple scenes, but for the timeline of the major events i needed them GONE and UNRESPONSIVE.
hes smart so i think, even at a young age, he gets that they're busy with work and all, and he's not alone per say- his friends and teachers and everyone in primp would definitely look out for him, but ive just been thinking. because like, i thought itd be cool if it was almost like strange also helped raise klug. as a (malicious) mentor of sorts. after they made truce (that they both keep breaking)
i imagine klugs parents are probably good people, but are horrible as parents. like they just keep doing their own thing and just let the village raise him.
but then that got me thinking, in this setting, do you think he would unknowingly (or maybe knowingly but trying not to think about it) resent them for not being there for him growing up?
#click for some deranged ramblings below with almost zero context#its other colors tadaaaa-*.#like klugs mom is awesome dark wizard but is too busy doing deep dungeon dives for months at a time to be home#shes a field scholar if you will#and klugs dad is very awesome sought out healer or whatever that also does dungeon runs. but he also does traveling healer stuff#i also thought itd be cool if they were divorced but on good terms and klug's primary guardian is supposed to be his mom#hence the looking up to her lots#oh i think#im pretty sure i got the jobs idea from someones headcanon years ago#im like 95% sure thats not a me idea#not my original idea <_<#hold#hold on now i gotta find it#edit: i found it!!!!! from minun @/marisexmas from way back when!!#anyway!! yea#ive been thinking about this because i was thinking of a scene before bed where klugs dad came back home like 6 months ***after***#klug had left the hospital. and then duh duh; plot plot#klug sees his dad packing again one night (its been a week max) to leave and he went “your leaving...?”#and the “already..?” goes unsaid but its clear from the tone and his dads like yeah they need me back at [hospital some countries away]#and he's all “okay klug remember to rest some your not looking to good still” and he just leaves#but the only reason his dad came in the first place was because his mom couldnt since she was balls deep in some dungeon#in the buttfukc of who knows where#but it#the accident was MONTHS AGO so the cruel part of klugs brain is all#damn what if i died?? would it have taken months for yall to show up#then too; if you even come????#and i woke up instantly to Write That Shit Down#((ngl mostly because the scene in my head was *chefs kiss* artstyle wise i mean. the colors were nice))#anyway this started because i wanted klug to battle strange and red ami but for serious reasons and then i backtracked just a bit#other colors

max is stronger than i could ever pretend to be because how could anyone ignore charles when he’s so pretty & desperate ☹️
maybe im a bit too serious with this reply, but the one thing that often defines my preference for top (or dom, or alpha) max is that i think he'd like to take care of his partner. like his biggest turn on would be their pleasure. so when charles so obviously doesn't want to have sex with him, max is not really that interested, bc he'd want charles to want him. he might get turned on by charles' desperation, but unless charles is so desperate that he wants max to fuck him, he has no intention on doing anything.

I finally got to play tcg with my bf. we'd been talking about doing it for a hecking while. now that it finally happened though... idk if I should be surprised that shoddy internet got in the way (as usual. it's always fucked things up when trying to do things together remotely). which lowered the mood a little bit. and I kept winning because it was literally his first time playing tcg after he did the tutorial like three weeks ago. and I guess I've gotten somewhat decent at deckbuilding at this point. first I used my trusty bennett-fischl-chong deck, then it soon became clear that there was no way in hell he'd win against that team. (he also really wants to use only the chibi characters and monsters, which means he won't be using a lot of the busted cards.) so for the rest of the matches I went with a sucrose-oceanid-kaeya deck. obviously I still put thought into that comp (because I'd feel bad using an actual random bullshit deck — I didn't want to make it look like I was looking down on him or something), but still way easier to beat than the first comp (at least I think it is). but he kept losing to that deck too.
he's definitely not the sore loser type, and he didn't seem all that bummed by not getting a single win. he was pleased that he actually killed one of my characters in the very last game, and he told me in jest that he would "have his revenge" in a rematch someday. I just feel bad for absolutely ripping him to shreds even though I didn't intend to. and because I realized the absolutely massive knowledge gap between us. he just needs to get familiar with what different effects/passives do and how they manifest, and learn the logic behind choosing a team comp (how each character would contribute, what rotation to use, the fact that this game relies on rotations at all, etc.) and choosing action cards for said comp. stuff that he's definitely no stranger to because he plays gwent and loves card games in general. I really do think he can kick my ass in this game; he just isn't familiar with all the things yet. and now I kinda want to think about how I would teach a complete noob how to play tcg. like yeah there's the in-game tutorial that teaches you the basic mechanics, but it doesn't at all teach you how to build an effective deck. you can't just throw big dps's in the same deck and expect to have a good time (flashbacks to when I ran a yae-zhongli-xiao deck to grind proficiency... *shudders*). you either have supports that help your main damage dealer survive and do more damage for big numbers (hypercarry), or you have multiple smaller damage dealers that can buff each other's damage via reactions to consistently chip away at the enemy's health (quickswap). it's very similar to the base game in that respect.

To be fair, I don't think Iris was trying to be cruel to him - but Jesus christ, that was stupid of her. "He needs to get used to as soon as possible." Yeah, and school ain't the place for that!! If he really DID lose his speed permanently, he'd need a safe space AT HOME to adjust to that!! He's had to adjust already SO much when it comes to going to a public school in the middle of fucking nowhere and 2000 years before he's born!! Don't make him adjust to losing something that has been the most constant thing in his shitty and unpredictable life, in school! Don't make him adjust to losing something that defines him as a person, in school! And especially don't make him adjust to that all when the person he's been going to for advice and comfort for months now showed up half dead after being missing for three days!
It hits really close to home for me because I developed a disability in middle school. All of sudden, i could do karate or ride bikes around town with my friends or be who I was up until then! I had to find purpose in other things, and i had to grieve that lost! While i adjusted to my new life, i struggled in school heavily and needed to take mental health breaks because it felt like everyone was talking to and expecting a person who didn't exist anymore! And you can't just explain that they don't exist because no one around you understands what its like to lose yourself!
Bart was grieving a part of him being lost, and he was scared he'd have to grieve even more because his caregiver could have died! He needed time and reassurance and safety, and comfort! Instead, he was given the harsh expectations of high school and the cruelty that is high schoolers - especially high schoolers who don't understand people who are different!
It's late, I'm overtired, and I'm thinkin' about Bart and Max, so here's a rant.
Max isn't Bart's dad, and Bart isn't Max's son. I don't even think uncle and nephew is a good fit for them. HOWEVER, Bart is Max's boy forever and always. What's the difference? Idk, but it's there, and it's full of love in an unconventional way.
Max doesn't think he understands Bart, and maybe he doesn't fully - but he knows him a hell of a lot better than everyone else!! When he's in the hospital, and they send Bart to school?! If Max was conscious he would know that's a stupid fucking idea because Bart finds school upsetting on a good day and on a day where everything that has been constant in his life is fucked up? Yeah, we all saw how that went, and Max wouldn't bother forcing him to go to school because he would have the foresight of how shitty it's gonna go!!
Max acts annoyed with Bart but he'll always listen to his ranting and rambling about random shit and petty drama and give hima advice.
Max keeps secrets from Bart, but he doesn't lie about his opinions, and in that way, he is consistent - something Bart needs in order to function.
Max gives Bart routine and structure that he hates but ultimately needs because he'll just end up eating junk food and playing video games for days if left to his own devices.
Max doesn't express love very well but he makes sure Bart is fed well and gets sleep and helps him with his homework.
Max is often grumpy but he smiles and jokes with Bart.
Max thinks Bart is dramatic, but he also makes sure to reassure him when he gets spooked due to a misunderstanding (Ex., When Bart makes a face and Max tells him he'll get stuck that way, and Bart gets worried, so Max doesn't drag it on and tease him and instead immediately reassures him that he can't actually get stuck that way).
Max is often hands off with Bart, resulting in him getting in trouble quite a bit. But, he, even if Bart doesn't think he is, is always keeping an eye on him from a distance - ready to intervene if needed.
Bart often grumbles about Max being super strict and angry, but he's clearly comfortable with Max. Which, to be fair, isn't the most reliable thing to measure their relationship with because Bart is famously shit at knowing what's dangerous and what isn't. But I think the fact that he seems to actively seek him out (laying on his bed while he's picking out an outfit, running around him when he's sitting on the couch, following him outside, etc) shows that it isn't just a case of him not knowing what's dangerous and rather a preference of being near him when home. He also seems to gravitate towards him naturally whenever upset, going to him to talk or just huff and puff in front of him.
I really think their relationship is best shown in a page in the Dead Heat
Tumblr media
That's not a father and son.
But that sure is a man and his boy. And there's love in that i don't know how to describe but is beautiful all the same.

Too Sweet - OP81
When Lando tries to play matchmaker with his two friends, the negative response comes from someone he did not imagine
or
When Oscar wants to prove you wrong
warnings: English isn't my first language, not proofread, mentions of alcohol and weed, smut, unprotected sex, car sex. Smut have warning before it starts and after it ends! - MDNI!!!!
word count: around 2k
Tumblr media
"What do you mean 'no'?" Lando looked at you as if you grown a second head. "Don't play nonchalant about this, that's his thing. I've heard you ramble about him before."
"Yep." You agreed, sipping your drink.
"So why the fuck not?" He crossed his arms. "You'd be bloody great together."
"Do you really think that, muppet?" You bit back, eyes still lifeless staring back at him. Lando nodded. "You don't understand man. I like him? Yes. Very much. So much is inebriating." You confessed, looking almost... tired?
"But I've come to the terms that we would never work." Your shoulders moved up and down. "We are so fucking different Lan, and you know that. He's like, kind and a ray of sunshine. I'm a mess, you should know this, I'm friends with you, that's telling."
"I'm gonna ignore this outrage statement because I'm on a bigger mission here." He continued, knowing you were deviating the conversation. "The fuck is that coming from?"
"When you like someone that much, you star to try and match your stuff with them." You shrugged, adjusting your hair on the mirror. "And as much as I want to, we just- don't. That's like you said, he is nonchalant, I'm way too chalant. He is so sweet, Im bitter. He is all composed and... I dunno... Like those fitness influencers who have insane wellness routines? You know. And I'm the entire opposite. He's sweet as a grape."
"Are you quoting Hozier's Too Sweet at me right now?" His green eyes looked at you in disbelief. "Are you for real?"
"Kinda."
"Okay I know you may be having doubts, but why not try? It's better than not try, right?"
"Okay now you're just quoting The Good Place at me." You mocked, hearing people bang on the door to the bathroom. "But you know that I'm way too down bad for him to just try and go along with it. I'm usually cool with this kinds of stuff, but... I know I'll just be delusional and want more with him."
"So make us both a favor and drop it, because I don't wanna have my heart broken, and you don't wanna hear me whining about it, sir Norris."
Oscar's eyes were trained on you the moment you left the bathroom with Lando at his house party. You and Lando knew each other since kids, and it was very obvious to everyone in that house, including him, that nothing would ever happen between the two of you.
You noticed his glance and just offered him a small smile before turning and starting a conversation with Max Fewtrell, yours and Lando's best friend.
"Thought you said that'd work." He commented when Lando came up to him. "I really shouldn't trust your matchmaking skills, remember the redhead you tried to hook me up with in Vegas?"
"Hey, she was hot! And liked koalas."
"She liked spiders."
"You grew up with both, mate, whatever." Oscar shooked his head with a smile on his face. "And she wants you, she's just worried you might not want her."
"What?"
"She didn't believe when I said you were down to meet her. She thinks I'm setting her up with someone who does not want her."
"Why would she think that? You did that before?"
"Not the case right now. She thinks that because she basically doesn't think she's good enough for you."
The softest "what" came out of Piastri's lips.
"Yeah, she even quoted Hozier at me."
"I... don't know what that means."
Later that day, when he was in bed, smeling a bit like alcohol and feeling his body light from the drinking, Lando's words came back to him. He was waiting to sober up more, although he was probably the most sober out of everyone in that party, including you, who at some point started trying to teach Pietra how to creepwalk, to which, you failed.
He kept watching you that night, from some distance, of course, to try and understand what you meant to Lando when you said "too different".
And to be honest, he kinda got that.
You weren't necessarily and extrovert, at least with those you didn't know, but with your friends, wow were you outgoing.
You and Max were doing shots at random moments of the night, a bet to see who would fall first. You'd drink whataver he drank, and he'd drink whatever you drank.
He smoked some weed, so you did too.
You took jello shots made purely out of the cheapest vodka you could find, so he did too.
Lando and Pietra were trying to keep up with the two of you, but it was in vain. You two were on fire.
And to be honest, Oscar liked that.
You probably didn't see it, but you were both bold, only on different aspects of life.
And he wanted to show you that.
So, phone in hand, he texted Lando, who was already on his own room, probably with some fling of his. The party had died down and only a few people were left, including you, who were downstairs probably playing truth or dare or never have I ever with the other survivors of the night, and him, who was in a guest room.

Spotify open. He typed down those two words and sure enough, a song by an Irish man popped up. The beat was kinda animated, and he didn't though to bother searching up the internet to see what other thought of that song.
He took his own conclusion.
"If you can sit in a barrell, maybe I'll wait". In his slightly disturbed mind, that meant he still had a shot. He just needed to prove you two weren't so different.
And while drunk, he took an oath to do that.
.
For the 2024 season, Lando had hired you as his personal counselor, which was just an excuse for you to travel around the world with him.
The reason why? Oscar didn't knew, but he wasn't complaining.
That meant seeing you around the paddock a lot, even til the highest hours of the night after each race, post-debriefs and everything.
Today was one of those days.
It was after a session of FP1 and FP2 of the US Grand Prix, and the post-practice debrief had just ended, people moving around and starting to leave.
Oscar gathered his stuff and was ready to walk to his own car and leave.
That's when he spotted you.
On one of the halls from the McLaren hospitality, walking around in a jacket he did not recognize as any of the teams merch.
"Are you switching scuderias?" He asked, nodding the jacket direction, startling you.
You looked down, almost forgetting which clothes you were wearing. "Oh that's just from the next NASCAR winning team."
"You like NASCAR?"
"I was very frustrated when I realized Cars was about NASCAR and not F1, I might switch motorsports." You smiled.
"Good luck cheering for Joe Gibbs."
"Oh which one do you choose? Spire?"
"No, never. 23XI is way better."
You rolled your eyes at his statement, a small smile still on your lips, a huge one on his.
"I'll laugh to your face when Denny Hamlin ends Riley on track next cup, Piastri."
"It's on, Y/ln."
Two days later, after the Grand Prix, Oscar dropped the bomb on the interview.
"... Maybe we should just adopt NASCAR rules and end things on track." A knowing smile on his lips, looking at the camera.
He wanted you to know. He made sure of it, it wasn't just some comment, there was more.
"Mate, NASCAR rules? Are you insane?" Lando asked later, watching you perk up at that mention.
Oscar smiled and watched you, barely giving his teammate any recognition. You searched the internet, the key words you never thought would be put together: "Oscar Piastri + NASCAR".
And sure enough, there it was, the interview.
You looked up at him, slightly flabbergasted and changed your expression to a smile.
And God, did he love that smile.
.
"Disrespectfully, Fuck Papaya Rules."
Oscar phisically perked up when he heard that. He was strolling around the paddock and caught you talking with reserve McLaren driver, Pato O'Ward.
"Not only that's dumb, but honestly, fuck-ass name for a strategy."
He chuckled at that, hearing you from around the corner.
"Honestly I don't know if I'd follow that if I ever fill in for any of them." Pato admitted, shrugging. "I understand when it's for the Constructors Championship but Drivers? Fuck that."
"My favorite moment so far is when Oscar cut him right on the beginning, it was kind of a 'fuck your championship' moment, I live for that."
"Lando's gonna fire you if he hears you say that." Pato laughed. "Remember when you hit him because he didn't spray Oscar on the Hungary podium?"
"And I'd do it again."
"You hit Lando to defend me?" Oscar asked later that day, on the parking lot, as you were waiting for your friend.
You looked up at him and his smug smile.
That actually caught you unexpected. Oscar was coy, you knew that, but he was getting progressively bolder and more challenging.
It messed with your brain.
"You eavesdropping?"
"I just like to hear when people talk about me." He admitted. "Don't you?"
"No. I hate knowing what people think of me."
Oscar chuckled. That was kind of perfect, because he wasn't good with words.
"I promise I won't tell you what I think of you if I can give you a ride back to the hotel."
That was the main difference between you and Oscar: you were provocative, alluring, liked to get under people's skin, while he was straightforward, deadpan and liked to see people's reaction to brutal honesty.
"Sure."
.
It was the last race of a triple header, Brasil.
Five DNFs, the race and the quali delayed so many times, it was exhausting. Oscar finished P8, which, yes, was a bad position, but he was glad he at least finished the race, unlike five other drivers.
He was so tired, and it showed on his face.
No one even dared ask him or Lando how they were feeling because it was obvious, so he pratically slipped away from the mechanics and engineers.
And he found you. Sitting on the floor, back to the wall that separated his and Lando's driver room, texting rapidly.
He wanted so bad to have you to him, to talk to you before media duties, to have you on his driver room alone. But he and Lando weren't exactly on the best terms, so he couldn't just snatch away his friend.
Or couldn't he?
"Lando's gonna be late." He said, snatching your attention immediately. "If you want to come in."
"Yeah, in a sec." You went back to typing right away.
"You texting someone?" You nodded but answered back:
"Since when do you care?"
"I don't know, I just want your attention." There it was again, the honesty. "I mean, the person you might be texting can be cool and all but, do they drive at 300km/h for McLaren?"
You stopped, looking up at him, almost not believing those words actually came out of his mouth.
"He doesn't..." He smiled. "He actually drives for Mercedes and is a 7 time world champion."
"You're texting Lewis?" Oscar asked softly, smile vanishing. "Isn't he too old for you?"
"First of all, Lewis Hamilton could never be 'too old'. And second, It's not like you're thinking." You pushed yourself up, entering his room. "I'm just congratulating him on the Senna homage and asking what he wants to get me tickets for the next Kendrick Lamar concert."
"I don't know how many times I can offer to babysit Roscoe."
Oscar closed the door behind him, a sigh of relief leaving his lips.
He launched himself on the nearest armchair he could find and groaned, feeling his body ache, trying to stop the shakes on his body from being wet with the cold wind.
"Are you okay?" Y/n asked, voice dripping with concern.
"Yeah. My back's killing me, and I think I'm going to have a cold."
"Take a hot shower, I'll grab you some medicine." She instantly put the phone down, marching towards the door, but was interrupted when Oscar held her wrist.
"Stay." The word came out murmured, a gentle plea, his eyes closed. "Please."
It was weird seeing him like that, so vulnerable, so desirous, it made your heart fumble when he opened those soft brown eyes. So you nodded.
"But you're gonna lie down and get warm. I don't want you sick."
He obliged, draggin himself -and you on the processes, because he couldn't let go of you- towards the improvised bed he had on his driver room.
"But what if-" Oscar began, starting to lie down. "I get sick so I can escape from the media duties?"
"Can you do that?"
"It's worth a shot."
You smiled, pulling a chair to be close to him still, to which he thanked with a smile.
Surely after, Oscar fell asleep. You know it wasn't ideal, but you stood by and watched him peacfully sleeping. He was so soft, so cat-like, so pretty.
Your heart ached with how much you liked him.
And maybe, even though he didn't knew, he was showing you how you two could be a match.
When he woke up, half an hour later, you weren't there already, but he found the medicine you said he needed with a small note that said "You snore like a cat purrs (take care), Y/n."
He smiled ear to ear, almost all of the fatigue gone. He folded the note and tucked it in one of the pockets of his bag, leaving to the unfortunate meeting with the media.
Later that day, as Y/n was getting to her hotel room when she noticed something hanging from the doorknob.
It was a keychain in the shape of a cat, with a small note that read "To remember me".
Y/n rolled her eyes, but with a small smile on her face, that turned into a shock expression the moment she saw the things attached to it: two tickets for the Kendrick Lamar concert.
"Oscar Jack Piastri, you little devil."
.
"How was the concert?" Oscar asked, a knowing smile on his lips.
Y/n smiled widely. It has been a couple of months since Oscar Piastri started pursuing you; you ended up knowing what he was up to when Lando commented that he was determined.
And dear God, he was.
And it moved you.
You don't remember ever someone putting this much effort for you. That alone, warranted some points on his advantage.
"It was good, I actually ended up meeting Snoop Dogg also and we talked a lot about West Side." You rambled, watching his eyes get lost, trying to search his brain for any information about any of the words you just said. "I'm just messing with you. It really meant a lot to me so, thank you."
"Anytime."
"You need a ride to the hotel?" He offered. "Think Lando's not going back any time soon."
You looked back to the door for the party, the music still so loud, lights flashing in different colors and you could almos feel the smell of alcohol even from this distance.
Usually, you'd be inside going crazy too, celebrating that the team you work for had finally won the Constructor's Championship after so many years not knowing what that feels like.
But you were tired. So you took Oscar's offer.
His car smelt new, even though he had this car for quite some time now, his cologne, a strong woody scent mixed with the fresh odor of the seats.
"So, how does it feel, huh?" You asked right after he started driving. "Constructor's champions."
"It's amazing." He answered, and you could feel the tiredness and happiness from his tone. "It's exactly that, a reward for all the hard work."
"Driver's championship next?"
"For me I hope so."
"Next season's gonna be amazing." You smiled, hiding the sadness. "I mean, five rookies on the grid, Hamilton at Ferrari, hopefully Max's downfall?"
"May God hear you, Y/n."
"This sport was missing some emotion." Oscar stared at you from the side of his eyes as you entered the highway, which was completely desert due to high hours of the night. "I mean, to you guys there's always emotion but that's because you're driving, to us just watching cars go around and no overtakes, no fun business is kinda boring."
A mischiveous glint shone on Oscar's eyes as he pushed the throttle pedal further and further with each word you said.
"Osc, what are you doing?"
"Just thought you'd like a piece of the emotion like we have." He opened the windows, a huge smile on.
The adrenaline rushed through your muscles, eyes blown wide as the velocity increased, starting to grip the seat as you laughed. Oscar was so normal about it he was even driving with only one hand on the wheel.
"Fuck it, Imma act like a dog."
Oscar laughed genuinely as you loosened the seatbelt and propped your head out of the window, the wind forcing your skin and giving you goosebumps.
You could barely breathe but that was a whole part of the fun.
"Oh my God this is amazing!"
"Emotion enough for you?"
"God, how are you guys so normal after every race?" You asked, sitting back down, heart beating so fast inside your chest. "I'd feel like I'm on the top of the world, honestly."
The song on the radio pushed your pulse to quicken even more. You opted for keeping your head inside to talk to Oscar, but one hand was out, dancing with the wind.
"God, I'm gonna miss this."
"What?!"
Shit.
He wasn't supposed to hear that, not yet.
You sighed, putting a hand on high thigh, feeling him tense up. "You can slow down now." He did, eyes constantly darting back to your hand, touching him. "The reason I was flying around with Lando and the team was because he wanted to give me new opportunities. And I got one in Italy, as a fashion designer. This is my last night working for McLaren."
Oscar couldn't believe what he was hearing, all his effort, all that he was dreaming for, to have you by his side every race just like this season but this time, as his partner.
He kind of thanked you for telling him to slow down, because his head was spinning.
"Italy is close to Monaco, no?"
"It's in Milan, a three hour drive." You answered, lightly caressing his thigh. "Lando already knew of that possibility, no one was supposed to get attached to me. I'm sorry, Osc."
He parked the car in front of the hotel, both hands now on the wheel as he was trying to calm down and grasp the reality of everything going on.
You were leaving.
He felt your hand lifting up from his pants and immediately grabbed it.
"I'm not giving you up."
"Osc-" "No."
"I didn't come this far just to lose you, not now."
"You're not losing me." He looked at you. "I'll just- I'll be in the country next door." You smiled tightly. "But it's okay if you don't want someone who can't accompany you, I get it."
"You'd wait for me?"
"What?"
Oscar blinked, his grip on your hand tightening, eyes intense as if he was begging.
"Wait for me, to be back from the races, wait for the breaks?"
"Osc that's thing long relationships go through, we don't know if it'd work and-"
He held your face. Gently, sweet, almost too sweet.
"We have until March. I want to try. I could never ask you to give up on something you want so bad, so that's why I'm asking you to not give up on us."
Us. That knocked all the air from your lungs.
"I can see it in your face. You want this just as badly as I do." Oscar's voice was low, sending shivers down your spine with the way he talked. "I already showed you how much of a match we can be, let me show you we can make this work."
You shouldn't, you really really shouldn't. If it all went south you didn't know if you could recover from him.
But it was hard to think when he was this close.
So you made a decision.
Even if it slipped away, it'd have claw marks from you. You were ready to try and keep him in your life with all your strength.
So you launched yourself forward, capturing his lips.
SMUT AHEAD - YOU'VE BEEN WARNED
His kiss was desperate, hands full on launching themselves at your body and holding you tight, as if you'd start to slip away right this moment.
"Osc! On the car?" You laughed, breaking the kiss, to which he immediately bent his head down to kiss your neck.
"Just this once." He was almost begging, trying to get you free from the seatbelt and into his lap. "I've wanted you for so long, love, please."
Too sweet? No, just the right amount.
You clicked your seatbelt and pushed it away, hopping onto his seat, back meeting the steering wheel, chest to chest, knees barely on the seat from how big his legs were.
The impression was that Oscar was ravenous, like a hungry man, devouring every inch of your skin he could, levaing behind a trace of his saliva and maybe some hickies, but neither of you cared.
His breathing was uneven, hands roaming your body like it was the curves of a circuit he needed to remember and dominate.
"Osc-" You hummed, feeling his hard-on pressing against you, dry humping it, pulling moans from both of you. "Fuck!"
"Didn't peg you as a tits guy." You laughed upon noticing both his hands lodged around your boobs, guiding you through them to ride his erection.
"I'm a Y/n guy, everything about you drives me insane." He confessed, moving his right hand to your ass, moving your body around his lap, feeling your thighs shake against his hips. "Love, please."
Your hands traveled down his chest, nails grazing his skin on top of the formal suit he had on. He looked like a prince, even though he was ready to fuck you like a soldier. Finally, your hands worked fast to take his belt off and open his pants.
His cock, finally freed from his underwear, was so hard already and leaking with pre-cum. You smeared it around as started playing with his tip, feeling his hips buck upwards.
You were looking at his face atently, seeing his expressions falter at your touch.
Oscar's eyes found your and they were dark like never before.
"You're such a fucking tease." He complained, stirring around, trying to feel more of your touch.
"Someone has to take the lead, huh?"
A spark flew past his eyes, hand moving up and grabbing a fistful of your hair, yanking it harshly.
"Osc!" You whined, head thrown back as his grip didn't loosen even slightly, sending a heat wave down your body, allodging itself in your pulsating core.
"Someone has to take the lead, right love?" He snapped back, a huge smile on his face as he watched you shake. "Enough with the teasing, pull your panties to the side and sink on my dick."
Fumbling with your hands, you found the slit of your dress and tucked your hand inside, founding the laced fabric that was already drenched, pulling it to the side.
Oscar helped you lodge on top of him, lining up your entrance and his lenght, one hand still holding you tightly by the hair and the other moving your ass around.
"Fuck, love!" He moaned as you started sitting on him, caressing your head, making you shiver and tighten even more. "When you feel it all inside you, you can take the lead back, m'kay?"
Your lips met each other's, drinking the moans away.
The further you sank on him, the more he sank on the driver's seat, feeling all the tension leave his body, finally feeling your insides.
Fully inside, he let go of your hair as he promised and allodged both hands on your hips, gripping you bot not forcing you to move.
"Think you're gonna last?" You asked, opening the buttons to his shirt, positioning both hans on each side of his chest.
He opened his eyes, the dark hungry was still there, much softer now, he looked drunk and so languidly happy. "We can leave the torture for the next times, can't we love?"
You wanted to tease him, and say maybe, that now the lead was back to your hands, you were going to make him last painfully, but you felt the tight knot on your low womb, and knew even you weren't going to last.
"Okay, Osc."
And you started to ride him, watching him give in and just become a moaning mess, still holding tight to your waist but completely gone.
"Fuck, love, you're- you're too good!"
You also didn't thought Oscar was going to be so talkative during sex, given his nonchalant ways, but when given pleasure he turned into a bubbling mess, talking nonsense.
"So good, so worth the wait." He mumbled, pulling you closer and moaning in your lips as you two kissed again. "You ride me so well." He kept going, as you started kissing his neck, wanting to hear more. "Don't stop, please don't stop, love."
His hands restored to gripping your waist and travelling up sometimes to carress your tits on top of your dress.
"You should be wearing less clothes, love, you're so pretty." He complained. "Are you close?"
"Mhmm."
"So am I. Cum with me, love." He groaned, voice too raw for his own good, messing around with your head. "Come on, baby." His hips started snapping up, meeting you halfway your ride.
A strained whine left your lips, hugging his shoulders and propping your head on your arms, launching your moans directly into his ear, pushing him further down his high.
"I'm- I'm gonna-"
Both your bodies started to shake and his big arms hugged you, pulling you closer, locking you in him as his cum spurted inside you, your knot finally snapping.
"You okay?" He asked a few moments later, feeling you go limp on top of him. "Still with me?"
"Shut it, Osc."
"Yeah, you're back."
You laughed, hugging him one last time before pulling up from him, immediately putting your panties back in place and returning to the passanger's seat as he zipped his pants back on.
He turned on the AC to clear the windows that became foggy from the heat irradiating from both of you.
You fixed your hair as much as you could, knowing it'd probably be ruined again when you went up to his hotel room. He offered you his blazer, to which you happily took and let it engulf you, hiding the hickied left on your neck.
He went around the car to open your door for you, helping you on your feet as he noticed your legs still shaking. He had that smug smile you got used to on the beggining of your flirting and it made you want to kiss him stupid.
"You think your plan of convincing me we're a match was 100% successfull?" You asked, crossing the hotel lobby still holding his arm, heading toward the elevator.
He leaned into you, voice just above a whisper, only for you to hear. "My cum is leaking out your pussy, you tell me."
You suffocated a smile, desperately pressing the button for the elevator.
SMUT ENDS HERE- WELCOME BACK!
.
"Okay so, I need to know." Lando asked, it was the day after the celebration, you were sharing a breakfast on the McLaren private jet with the rest of the crew.
You were sitting beside Oscar, Lando in front of you two, a little hungover but still curious.
"We're not telling you anything."
"You owe me this, I had to sit through one hour meeting with the pr team about not fucking in cars in the parking lot."
You choked a laugh, tecnically your contract with Lando was over, and you weren't a part of the McLaren anymore, so you got to sleep while Oscar and Lando had to be awake for a very stern lecture.
"Honestly, if you keep doing shit like this I'm gonna make you two pay for my therapy."
"Bill me, mate." Oscar snapped back, a huge smile on his face as he took one sip of a milk glass.
"Fuck you!" Lando answered immediately, shock written all over his face. "Honestly, I should've never put you two together."
"You didn't do shit." You retorted, throwing Lando even further down the insane hill.
He started to ramble about how he was the first matchmaker, how he handled you two talking about each other to him and it almost drove him insane, while you and Oscar just smiled.
You layed your head on Oscar's shoulder, sighing.
He was sweet, but never too sweet for you.
You breathed in his scent, a sharp woody masculine perfume that mixed perfectly with your sweet one. Exactly how you two were supposed to be, boldness in sweetness and sweetness in boldness, completing each other.
And whatever was going to happen to the both of you, you'd fight it, like he fought for you.

LOVING YOU THE LOUDEST (or the quietest).
Tumblr media
IN WHICH… who’s the yapper and who’s the listener in your relationship.
featuring. Lando Norris, Max Verstappen, Oscar Piastri, Carlos Sainz, Charles Leclerc & Lewis Hamilton.
warnings. established relationship, fluff, 1k words.
Tumblr media
LANDO NORRIS: yapper! bf x yapper! gf
You and Lando are so loud—like, Zak can hear you two entering the paddock from inside the McLaren garage. There’s never a quiet moment; you’re always yelling, play fighting, making sure the whole world knows you’ve arrived. Whether it's racing each other to the hospitality suite or cracking jokes that only the two of you find funny, the energy is always off the charts.
The paddock has learned that silence, when it comes to you two, is a rare and deeply suspicious. If you ever stop yelling, teasing, or causing a general ruckus for more than a few minutes, panic spreads. Engineers glance at each other nervously. The media starts speculating. Mechanics whisper, “Something's off. They’re too quiet.”
You two are incapable of behaving normally. The moment your eyes meet, it’s instant mischief—grinning like you’re plotting something, pulling faces, throwing middle fingers at each other like it’s a competition. There’s never a dull moment.
And then there’s Lando, who has absolutely no volume control. One second, he’s shouting across the paddock, “THAT’S MY GIRLFRIEND!!” like he’s narrating a rom-com, making everyone turn their heads in confusion. The next, he’s randomly singing, mumbling nonsense, or repeating the same word over and over just because the silence between you two felt too unnatural.
There is no peace. There is no quiet. Just pure, uncontrollable chaos.
MAX VERSTAPPEN: yapper! gf x listener! bf
Max is an exceptional listener. No matter how much you talk, ramble, or go off on tangents, there’s never a moment where he makes you feel like it’s too much. He listens—fully present, fully engaged, as if every word genuinely matters to him.
But when it comes to racing, his team, his car, and strategy? That’s when the roles reverse. Suddenly, he’s the one talking nonstop—analyzing every detail, breaking down scenarios, venting frustrations, sharing insights that only someone who lives and breathes racing would notice. And sometimes, out of nowhere, he’ll drop some random fact, something entirely unrelated—just because he thought you’d find it interesting.
And then, there’s the real sign—the way he talks to you. It’s in the way his voice softens just slightly when he’s telling you something important, the way his tone shifts when the conversation is just between the two of you. It’s not loud, or dramatic—it’s quiet, effortless, genuine.
And the most telling part? He remembers everything. If someone casually asks, “Hey Max, what allergies does she have?” he answers immediately, without hesitation. Because he’s the kind of person who doesn’t just listen—he keeps everything, as if every detail about you is worth remembering.
OSCAR PIASTRI: yapper! gf x listener! bf
Oscar being the best listener? Obviously. It’s almost a personality trait at this point. He’s calm—sometimes too calm.
Like when you see a spider in the bathroom. You scream, panic, throw yourself into his arms like it’s a life-or-death situation. And him? Completely unfazed. Just a shrug, a sigh, and a casual walk toward the spider like it’s his daily routine. One swift motion, problem solved, no reaction. Meanwhile, you’re still recovering from the emotional rollercoaster.
But beyond the calm, beyond the spider-killing efficiency, there’s the real Oscar—the one who remembers everything. Your favorite color? Locked in. The exact way you like your coffee? Stored in the database. The specific meal you order at McDonald’s, every single time? He could recite it by heart.
And then, there’s racing—the one place where you’re the loudest voice in the room, the one he always hears. Your cheers cut through everything—through the noise, the crowd, the chaos—and he loves it. Loves how you talk his ear off about things, loves that you fill the silence in his head with you.
He might be quiet. He might not always say much. But if there’s one thing you can count on—he’s always listening.
CARLOS SAINZ: listener! gf x listener/yapper! bf
Carlos is the perfect balance—the rare type who can sit back and absorb everything or take charge of a conversation when needed. Some people are either talkers or listeners, stuck on one side of the spectrum. Not him. He can listen to you for hours, days even, never making you feel like you’re saying too much. He’s the kind of person who actually hears what you’re saying—not just nodding along, but really listening, remembering, understanding.
But flip the switch, and suddenly, he’s the yapper—especially when he’s passionate about something. He can break down races, debate strategies, or go on a tangent about a completely random topic, and you’d sit there listening just as easily. The flow of conversation with him never feels forced—it just happens naturally, like a perfect back-and-forth rhythm where neither of you ever feel the need to hold back.
And that’s the magic of Carlos Sainz. He listens when you need him to, and talks when it’s his turn—effortless, balanced, and always present.
CHARLES LECLERC: listener! gf x yapper! bf
Charles is such a yapper—but in the best way possible. He can jump from deep, philosophical conversations to completely random thoughts like, “Why is the sky blue instead of green?” And somehow, both feel equally important when he’s talking.
And the best part? You love listening to him. Whether he’s ranting about something serious, sharing his dreams, or just going off on one of his endless thought spirals, his energy makes every conversation captivating.
And then, there’s the fact that he talks about you—to Lewis, to the team, probably to anyone who will listen. Your date? He gives Lewis the full breakdown. Something funny you did? He’s sharing it like it’s the highlight of his week. He just loves talking about you, like every little thing is worth mentioning.
He’s the kind of person who could talk forever, and you’d never want him to stop.
LEWIS HAMILTON: listener! gf x yapper! bf
Lewis is one of those undercover yappers—people assume he’s more reserved, but once he gets going, he does not stop. He’s got opinions, insights, stories, and he’s not afraid to share them.
Silence? Not really his thing. He fills every gap with conversation—whether it’s about sports, fashion, music, racing, life, or even deep philosophical thoughts. He thrives on discussion, on exchanging ideas, on turning even the smallest detail into an interesting conversation.
And with you? Oh, he talks even more. He knows you’ll listen, knows he can tell you anything—whether it’s breaking down a race weekend, analyzing the latest streetwear trends, or just casually debating something completely random. He’s effortlessly engaging, effortlessly present, always keeping the conversation flowing.
So yes, Lewis is a yapper. Not the loudest in the room, not the most obvious—but the kind who, once he starts, pulls you into his world, word by word, thought by thought, until you never want him to stop.

Lewis: I’m sorry. Am I hallucinating?? Because that says Verstappen. Not Leclerc.
George: BELLE. VERSTAPPEN. BELLE. FREAKING. VERSTAPPEN.
Carlos: Belle… changed her name…
Zhou: I THOUGHT I WAS READY BUT I WAS NOT READY
George: DID THAT JUST HAPPEN LIVE???
Carlos: I need a drink.
Alex: I AM SCREAMING.
Sebastian: Honestly? About time. Good for her.
Oscar: SHE CHANGED HER USERNAME TO BELLE VERSTAPPEN. THAT'S IT. THAT'S THE ANNOUNCEMENT.
Fernando: Max said "no press release, no statement, just pure chaos."
Daniel: Can we talk about the absolute audacity???
Zhou: Max dropping "I’m married" casually during a press conference and Belle changing her name quietly the night before Spain is PEAK Verstappen behavior.
Lando: I’m gonna cry. She’s not even dramatic about it. Just boop name change.
George: Meanwhile Charles is somewhere punching a wall.
Carlos: somewhere? Try several walls.
Lewis: No but seriously—Belle just silently won the whole internet.
Logan: It’s not even loud drama. It’s silent nuclear bomb energy.
Nico R.: Charles is probably Googling "how to politely kidnap your sister back."
Checo: Max playing 4D chess while Charles plays Candy Crush.
Fernando: And still losing at Candy Crush.
Kimi: Wake me up when someone crashes a press conference about it.
Oscar: Okay but real talk. I’m SO proud of her.
Lando: Same.
Lewis: She chose her happiness over their comfort. Respect.
Esteban: Someone check on Charles.
Fernando: No, no, let him suffer a bit longer. Character development.
Lance: Wait does this mean Max is Charles’ BROTHER-IN-LAW now???
Oscar: i just had a full body shiver
David: I would pay so much money for footage of Fred Vasseur reading this right now.
Mark: I would pay more to see Christian Horner's face.
George: NO ONE TELL PIERRE. Let’s just see what happens.
Logan: What if Belle walks into the paddock tomorrow wearing Verstappen merch. I would pass away.
Lewis: Max really married the one girl Charles forgot to look at properly. Poetic.
Nico R.: This is better than any soap opera I’ve ever seen.
Sebastian: Not Max breaking Ferrari and Leclerc family morale in one move. That’s championship material.
Oscar: Belle really said "forget my birthday? Watch this."
Carlos: Reminder: Max said he’s bringing her to the paddock tomorrow.
George: THEY’RE GOING PUBLIC IN PERSON TOO???
Oscar: CHAOS. COMPLETE CHAOS.
Alex: I have popcorn ready.
Lando: I'm not ready.
Daniel: None of us are.

Charles didn’t mean to open Instagram.
It had become a form of self-torture lately—every scroll a reminder of the silence on the other end of his unanswered texts, of the messages left on read, of the birthday that no one in the family had remembered except Belle herself.
But his thumb moved on autopilot during breakfast, and there it was.
Not a post. Not a story.
A name.
@belleverstappen
Charles blinked. Froze. Then blinked again.
No. That couldn’t be right.
He opened her profile.
Same photos. His sister’s profile.
Charles stared at the screen.
Then he read the handle again.
@belleverstappen.
Verstappen.
A cold sweat started to gather at the back of his neck.
“Non… non non non…” Charles muttered, sitting bolt upright in his chair.
Across the hotel room, Alexandra looked up from her hair straightener. “What now?”
“Arthur,” he said, too sharp, holding his phone up like it was infected. “Look at this.”
Arthur, still halfway through a bowl of cereal, leaned over and squinted. He choked immediately.
“No. No, no, no. She didn’t.”
“She did!” Charles said, nearly tripping over his chair. “She changed her name!”
Arthur shoved his cereal away like it had personally betrayed him. “Wait—what does that mean? Did she get married? Wait, is this real?”
“What does it mean?” Charles asked, genuinely baffled. “Why would she—what—Why Verstappen?”
And then, like a bolt of catastrophic lightning:
“Oh my god. Is Jos Verstappen her sugar daddy??”
A sound of pure horror came from behind him.
“CHARLES!” Alexandra snapped. “What the hell?!”
Arthur looked like he had been personally insulted by the sentence. “Are you out of your mind?”
“I’m just saying—Verstappen! She’s going by Verstappen!”
Charles was already pacing. “She was always weirdly polite to Jos. Maybe he—maybe it’s him. He’s always lurking around the paddock! And she moved out a year ago and never told us. She quit her job. Someone’s clearly supporting her!”
Arthur looked horrified. “Charles. Please. That’s insane.”
Alexandra looked at Charles like he’d grown a second head. “You do realize Jos Verstappen is married, right? Like, currently. Publicly. Has been for years.”
“I saw her smile at Jos in Monaco!” Charles snapped. “And she said he was polite to her at the garage and she’s been so—so secretive and she quit her job and she got a horse—”
“CHARLES,” Alexandra interrupted, hands in the air. “Jos Verstappen is married.”
Charles blinked. “What?”
Arthur groaned and threw a pillow across the room. “Oh my god. This is actually the stupidest conclusion you’ve reached this month, and I was the one that thought Belle was being kept by a sugar daddy with a skincare routine.”
“IT MAKES SENSE AT THE TIME,” Charles insisted.
There was a knock, and Nicholas Todt stepped into the room, holding his tablet with the solemn expression of a man walking into a fire.
“Tell me this is not real,” Nicholas said, holding up a screenshot of Belle’s Instagram page.
“Oh, it’s real,” Arthur said, grimacing.
“Charles, please tell me this is not the first time you’re hearing about this.”
Charles opened and closed his mouth.
Nicholas pinched the bridge of his nose and sat down heavily. “This is a PR disaster. If the media connects her to Max—”
“Wait,” Charles said slowly. “Why would the media connect her to Max?”
Everyone turned.
“You’re joking,” Alexandra said.
“What?” Charles asked, defensive.
“She changed her name to Verstappen,” Nicolas deadpanned. “What do you think it is?”
“She can’t be married to Max!” Charles blurted. “Someone would’ve told me!”
Joris, who had been quiet until now, finally looked up from his coffee with the most satisfied look on his face.
Joris shrugged. “Good for her.”
Charles stared. “Good for—what?”
“She’s been invisible to all of you for years,” Joris said bluntly. “And now she’s making herself seen. About damn time.”
Charles looked between them all, suddenly feeling like he was at the center of a soap opera everyone else had watched already.
“No,” he whispered. “It can’t be Max.”
Arthur looked vaguely nauseous. Joris looked like he had several things to say and none of them were polite.
Charles could feel the room closing in. “This is not happening.”
“I actually thought it might be Zhou,” Alexandra said mildly. “Or Lewis. They’re both polite. Hot. Emotionally intelligent.”
“Okay, please stop talking,” Charles groaned.
Arthur sat down beside him. “Do you think she’ll be at the paddock tomorrow?”
“If she shows up wearing Verstappen gear, I’m gonna throw myself in the gravel,” Charles muttered.
Alexandra raised an eyebrow. “No, you’re going to smile, and wave, and act like a supportive brother who didn’t forget she existed.”
"Max," he repeated dumbly. "Max Verstappen. My biggest rival. The guy who stole my karting trophies when we were twelve."
Arthur shrugged. "Apparently, he didn’t just steal your trophies."
Alexandra smirked behind her hand.
Nicolas rubbed his temples like he had a migraine.
Charles sat down heavily in the nearest chair, completely and utterly defeated.
Belle was married. To Max Verstappen. And the whole world knew.
Everyone except him.
She hadn’t said a word.
She’d just changed her name.
And somehow, that said everything.

Text Messages: Arthur Leclerc & Lorenzo Leclerc
Arthur: hey you up?
Lorenzo: I am now. What’s going on?
Arthur: don’t freak out but we need to tell maman something before she finds out from the internet
Lorenzo: Arthur. Tell me now.
Arthur: Isabelle changed her Instagram username. It’s belleverstappen now.
Lorenzo: … what.
Arthur: like not “dating” Verstappen not “soft launch” Verstappen I mean she married him she’s married like legally. emotionally. spiritually. all of it.
Lorenzo: What do you MEAN she’s married to Max Verstappen?! When?! How?! WHY didn’t we KNOW?!
Arthur: because we were all too busy forgetting her birthday and ignoring her for years? just a theory. 🙃
Lorenzo: Jesus Christ. Does Charles know?
Arthur: not until like five minutes ago. he thought she was dating JOS I’m not kidding.
Lorenzo: … of course he did.
Arthur: look can you please talk to maman like right now because the whole paddock is going to know soon and if she sees this online first she’s going to cry and then go full French Catholic guilt spiral and none of us are emotionally prepared for that
Lorenzo: On it.
Arthur: thank you.
Good luck

Charles: MAX. ANSWER YOUR PHONE.
Charles: TELL ME THIS ISN’T TRUE. TELL ME THIS IS SOME STUPID INTERNET RUMOUR. MAX. DID YOU MARRY MY SISTER?
Max: Yes.
Charles: AND YOU LET ME WALK AROUND THE PADDOCK FOR WEEKS LIKE AN IDIOT.
Max: We got married in Monaco. She wanted to keep it private.
Charles: YOU GOT MARRIED AND YOU DIDN’T TELL ME??
Charles: YOU DIDN’T THINK I DESERVED TO KNOW THAT MY BABY SISTER WAS MARRYING MY BIGGEST RIVAL??
Pierre: wait wait wait what do you mean married Isabelle???
Yuki: SOMEONE EXPLAIN WHAT IS HAPPENING
Carlos: Charles—
Charles: HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TOGETHER? HOW LONG HAS THIS BEEN A THING??
Carlos: Over a year.
Charles: I’M GOING TO SCREAM.
Charles: I’m going to absolutely LOSE MY MIND. You’ve all been lying to me. For MONTHS.
Charles: WHO KNEW?? I WANT A FULL LIST. RIGHT NOW. I SWEAR I WILL GO THROUGH PHONE RECORDS.
Lewis: It wasn’t our secret to tell.
George: They weren’t hiding it to hurt you. They were protecting each other.
Lando: Also, you literally forgot her birthday. You don’t exactly have the moral high ground here.
Charles: SHE’S MY SISTER.
Max: She’s my wife. Stop yelling like you own her.
Charles: SHE’S FAMILY.
Max: This isn’t about you, Charles.
Charles: SHE IS MY SISTER. MY FAMILY. AND NONE OF YOU THOUGHT I MIGHT WANT TO KNOW SHE MARRIED SOMEONE WHO’S BEEN TRYING TO BEAT ME SINCE KARTING.
Oscar: She didn’t forget to tell you. She chose not to.
Charles: SHUT UP, OSCAR.
Carlos: Hey.
Charles: NO. YOU TOO. YOU REMEMBERED HER BIRTHDAY. AND YOU SAID NOTHING.
Carlos: Because she asked me to. Because she knew you’d react exactly like this.
Charles: SO MY SISTER MARRIES MAX VERSTAPPEN AND I’M THE VILLAIN??
Max: You remember that now?
Charles: You think this is funny?
Max: No. I think it’s sad. That it took a ring on her finger and a horse on Instagram for you to realize she was gone.
Charles: You went behind my back. You should have told me.
Max: She didn’t want to. And I respect her choices. Which is more than I can say for you.
Charles: I’M HER BROTHER.
Max: Then maybe act like it. Because right now? You’re just noise.
George: Charles, this isn’t about you anymore.
Alex: It’s about Belle. And how she had to build a new life because her old one didn’t see her.
Oscar: And Max did.
Max:If you're done shouting, maybe try asking yourself why she trusted me with her future and not you.
Charles: …
Yuki: can someone please give me a recap. i feel like i skipped six seasons.
Pierre: I JUST FOUND OUT HE MARRIED HER AND NOW HE’S DRAGGING CHARLES INTO THE VOID I NEED TO LIE DOWN
Daniel: someone get Pierre a fan, he’s hyperventilating.
Charles: EVERYONE SHUT UP. EVERYONE JUST STOP.
Charles: I’M FINDING HER. SHE’S AT THE TRACK, RIGHT? I’M FINDING HER RIGHT NOW.
Lewis: Charles.
Charles: WHAT.
Lewis: Do not ambush her. You don’t get to demand explanations from someone you forgot how to see.
Charles: I DIDN’T—
George: You forgot her birthday, Charles.
Oscar: You didn’t notice when she moved. You didn’t notice when she quit her job. You didn’t notice when she stopped showing up to family events.
Carlos: You didn’t notice her.
Charles: I just want to talk to her.
Max: Then wait until she’s ready. You’ve taken a lot of things from her, Charles. You don’t get to take this, too.
Charles: You don’t get to talk to me about what I’ve taken.
Max: No? Then let me talk to you about what you didn’t give her.
Max: Time. Attention. Respect. Support.
Max: All the things she gave you without question. All the things you never gave back.
Yuki: i’m so uncomfortable but also very invested
Pierre: i feel like we should log off
Charles: ...is anyone going to back me up here?
Esteban: You kind of lost the moral high ground at “is she dating Jos.”
Logan: ngl we all knew but we also knew you’d react like this.
Lewis: This isn’t about us. It’s about her. You need to let her decide if and when she wants to let you back in.
Charles: She’s my sister.
Max: She’s my wife.
Max: And if you ever want a place in her life again, maybe start by realizing you don’t get to gatekeep her happiness.
Carlos: Max. Enough.
Max: I’m done.
The rest is up to her.
Not me.
And sure as hell not you.

Pascale Leclerc had always prided herself on knowing her children.
She had lived through the chaos of karting and exam seasons, through Arthur’s scraped knees and Charles’ broken hearts, through Lorenzo’s silent strength and Isabelle’s quiet brilliance.
She had watched them grow up like a garden — each one different, wild in their own way, but hers.
And yet now, as she stood in her kitchen — untouched tea cooling in her hands — she felt like she was staring at a house that had quietly caught fire.
And she hadn’t even smelled the smoke.
Lorenzo stood by the doorway, tense but calm in that way only he could be.
He had always been the family’s voice of reason, the one who didn’t panic, who showed up with logistics when the others brought emotions.
But tonight, there was something sharp beneath his composure. A tightness around the mouth. A shadow in his voice.
“Something happened,” Pascale had said, the moment he arrived.
Lorenzo didn’t answer right away.
He looked at her — really looked at her — like he wasn’t sure how to begin. Like he was about to hand her a truth that couldn’t be unspoken.
“Isabelle got married,” he said quietly.
The words didn’t register at first. Not fully.
They sat in the air, strange and unfamiliar, like hearing a sentence in a language she hadn’t spoken in years.
“What?” Pascale asked, blinking.
“Isabelle,” Lorenzo said again, slowly. “She got married. A few weeks ago. In Monaco.”
Her breath caught.
“To who?”
Lorenzo hesitated. “Max Verstappen.”
The name hit harder than the sentence.
Pascale lowered herself into the nearest chair like her legs no longer trusted her.
“She’s… married,” she said, tasting the word. “To Max. And we didn’t even know?”
Lorenzo sat across from her. “We didn’t even know she was in a relationship, Maman. We didn’t know she moved. That she quit her job. We didn’t know anything.”
Pascale stared at the table, at her own hands folded around a now-cold mug.
It was her fault.
Hers.
Because she had believed silence meant peace. She had assumed that just because Isabelle didn’t complain, she was content.
And in doing so, she had let her daughter disappear. Slowly. Quietly. Without fanfare.
“She didn’t want us to know?” Pascale asked, voice small.
“No,” Lorenzo said gently. “Because we’ve given her every reason to believe we only care when it’s convenient. When it’s public. When it’s about Charles.”
Pascale felt her eyes sting. “I thought… I thought she would come to me, if it was serious.”
“She did,” Lorenzo said, not unkindly. “She just stopped waiting for us to see her.”
Pascale pressed a hand over her mouth.
“I didn’t even know she still believed in love,” she whispered. “After everything we asked her to give up. After everything we never gave back.”
“She did,” Lorenzo said. “And he gives it to her.”
Silence stretched between them — thick with guilt and revelation.
“I missed her wedding,” Pascale said softly.
“We all did,” Lorenzo replied. “But we don’t have to miss everything else.”
Pascale’s hand trembled as she set the tea aside. It sloshed slightly over the rim — unnoticed.
“I missed her wedding,” she repeated, more to herself than to Lorenzo.
He didn’t speak. He knew better than to offer hollow comfort.
“I missed her,” Pascale whispered. “I missed everything.”
The silence sat heavy between them, stretching until it felt like a second skin. Pascale reached for her phone on the table — out of habit, out of desperation — and stared at the screen like it might offer her redemption.
A single name burned in her memory.
Isabelle.
Her thumb hovered, hesitating over old messages, until finally, she opened the thread.
It was all still there. Every breadcrumb of her failure.
Ma chérie… I didn’t realise. I thought I messaged you, but I sent it to Charles by mistake. That’s not an excuse. You deserved more. Always. Please let me come see you. I miss you.
Even reading it now, Pascale felt the shame wash through her like floodwater.
It was a lie. She had forgotten.
Not just the day. Not just the message.
She had forgotten her daughter — in the way that mattered most.
“I lied to her,” Pascale said aloud, her voice cracking.
Lorenzo closed his eyes like he was bracing for a storm. “Maman…”
“When I messaged her,” Pascale said,  tears pricking at the corners of her eyes. “After I forgot her birthday. I didn’t want her to think I forgot.  I told her I meant to text her — that I accidentally sent it to Charles instead. But that wasn’t true. I did. I forgot. I forgot the day she was born. And then I lied because I couldn’t bear the thought of her knowing that. I didn’t remember until Charles reminded us. I lied to make it seem like I hadn’t failed her. But I did. I have. Over and over again.”
Lorenzo’s jaw tightened, but he didn’t interrupt.
“I told myself she was strong. That she didn’t need as much,” Pascale continued, tears now slipping freely down her cheeks. “She didn’t fight for attention. She didn’t make noise. She just… quietly endured. I thought that meant she was fine.”
“She wasn’t,” Lorenzo said softly.
“I know that now,” Pascale whispered. “But it’s too late to be there for the little girl who cried when we sold her horse. Or the young woman who spent her graduation alone because we were all watching a race.”
Pascale looked up, eyes brimming.
“But maybe it’s not too late for the woman she’s become. The one who found someone who sees her. Who loves her enough to ask for her forever, even when she felt invisible.”
Lorenzo nodded slowly. “You’ll have to show her. Not just say it.”
“I don’t even know if she’ll want to hear from me,” Pascale said.
“You’ll try anyway,” he replied. “Because that’s what she deserved all along. Someone who didn’t need a reminder to show up.”
The air shifted slightly — still heavy, still painful, but no longer suffocating.
Pascale exhaled shakily and picked up her phone again.
“I want to fix it,” Pascale said eventually. “I don’t know how, but I want to try. I don’t want her to think we only care now because she married someone famous.”
“Then don’t start with an apology for missing the wedding,” Lorenzo said, voice low but steady. “Start with an apology for everything before it.”

Lando: (sends screenshots)
Lando: okay so we all agree that was… A Lot™?
George: “Then maybe act like it.” Cold. Accurate. Deserved.
Lewis: I was hoping Charles would reflect Not double down on the yelling and gaslighting
Carlos: He kept yelling “SHE’S MY SISTER” like it was a spell It’s not. It’s just a fact. And not one he treated with care.
Zhou: I’m honestly mad at him. Belle deserved better than that meltdown.
Daniel: She’s been waving white flags for YEARS. The fact that she had to marry Max Verstappen for him to finally notice is… tragic.
Logan: He tried to make it all about himself. Again.
Esteban: And he really told Max “you went behind my back” like Belle is property
Sebastian: Disrespectful. Self-centered. Deflecting guilt into rage. I like Charles. But this? This was ugly.
Lance: You could see the second-hand shame through the screen
Valtteri: Honestly, I don’t blame Max for losing patience.
Nico R.: He gave Charles every opportunity to calm down. Charles chose violence.
Oscar: “Which is more than I can say for you.” Yeah. That line still lives in my head.
Fernando: Max protected her. Period. Charles tried to make it about rivalry. One of them is married. The other is playing victim.
Mark: I love when people forget that Max is scary when he loves someone Not just when he races
David: Charles thought the betrayal was the secret The real betrayal is that she stopped counting on him, and he never noticed
George: And now he’s blaming everyone except himself.
Lando: What exactly did he expect? That she’d send a save-the-date and beg for attention?
Lewis: She already did. Every time she showed up and got ignored.
Sebastian: She didn’t disappear. She just stopped asking to be seen.
Alex: And I’m done coddling Charles about that.
Carlos: Same.
Oscar: She chose happiness. He called it betrayal. That says everything.
Zhou: Should we be worried about today?
Daniel: We should be prepared. Max said he’s bringing her to the paddock. And Charles? He’ll implode.
Fernando: Let him. Maybe he’ll finally listen if it’s in public.
Lewis: He doesn’t deserve answers. He deserves the silence he gave her.
George: And if she does say anything to him, it’s her choice.

Belle had never liked the paddock.
Not because it wasn’t impressive — it was. Efficient, loud, organized chaos. But because it had never really felt like hers. Not even when Charles had brought her around as a teenager, wide-eyed and silent, watching her brothers shake hands and pose for cameras while she trailed two steps behind.
She knew how invisible you could be in a place like this.
But not today.
Not now.
She stepped through the gates with Max beside her — her fingers laced in his, steady and certain — and the hush that fell over the paddock was immediate.
Belle could feel it.
The weight of eyes. The slow, sharp recognition rippling outward from person to person like a silent explosion. Some turned to look, others tried not to, but they all felt it. The shift. The fact that something had changed.
That she had changed.
Max didn’t break stride. Neither did she.
The sun was warm on her shoulders, but the Red Bull jacket she wore — his, oversized and soft — felt like armor. Familiar. Safe. She’d tugged it from his closet that morning while he was brushing his teeth, said nothing as she slipped it on, and Max had only smiled at her like she was everything in the world worth looking at.
He hadn’t let go of her hand since.
Belle didn’t smile, but she didn’t flinch either.
She looked ahead, chin high, expression calm. If they wanted something loud — a statement, a spectacle — they weren’t going to get it.
They’d get this.
Her wedding band catching the light. Her hand in Max’s. Her name — Belle Verstappen — already echoing through the internet.
Let them talk.
She heard someone near the McLaren garage whisper, “Oh my god, it’s really her.” Heard another murmur, “She’s wearing his jacket.”
Belle didn’t look. She didn’t have to.
She could feel the stares. Could feel the quiet scramble of the media trying to decide whether or not to speak. To ask. To breathe.
She kept walking.
Max leaned in slightly, barely tilting his head toward her, and said under his breath, “Still with me?”
Belle’s lips curved — just slightly. “Always.”
His thumb brushed along the side of her hand in response. The smallest touch. But enough.
They moved through the paddock like a weather system — calm on the surface, but electric underneath. Some drivers straightened up when they passed. Some looked away. One engineer dropped their tablet. Someone near the Ferrari garage gasped.
Belle didn’t look toward it.
She didn’t need to see Charles to know he was watching.
She could feel it — that specific burn of a sibling’s shock, of betrayal, of too-late recognition. And it hurt, somewhere deep in her chest. But it didn’t undo her.
Not this time.
Max gave her fingers a gentle squeeze.
She kept walking.
Every step felt like reclaiming something. Every heartbeat steadier than the last.
Let them stare. Let them wonder.
They hadn’t seen her before. They hadn’t heard her.
Now they would.
Quietly. Unapologetically.
This was her life.
And Belle Verstappen wasn’t hiding anymore.

The moment they stepped inside the Red Bull garage, Belle felt the shift.
It wasn’t like entering a room. It was like crossing a threshold — one she could never go back from.
There were voices, radio chatter, tire warmers humming. Mechanics moved with sharp efficiency. But as Max walked in with her hand still folded in his, everything… slowed.
Heads turned. Not in shock — they all knew by now. But in curiosity.
She was part of it now.
Max dropped his bag with practiced ease, nodded at one of the engineers, and then looked back at her like she was the only thing that mattered in the room.
“You okay?” he asked, voice low, just for her.
Belle nodded, though her heart was fluttering too fast. “Yeah. Just—this is a lot.”
“You don’t have to talk to anyone if you don’t want to.”
“I want to,” she said quietly. “I want to meet the people who know the version of you I don’t get at home.”
Max smiled like that meant more than she realized — like she’d just handed him something no one else ever had.
“Alright,” he murmured. “Time to meet the chaos.”
Belle only had a second to steel herself before she heard the gruff voice.
“About time you brought her here.”
Jos.
He was already standing near the back wall of the garage, arms folded, mouth tugged up in something that resembled a smile. As he looked at her properly, something softened in his expression. Something almost proud.
“See you survived the vultures,” he said drily, and she couldn’t help but laugh.
She blinked — caught off guard — and then smiled. “I’m told it’s a survival skill.”
Jos chuckled — actually chuckled — and nodded. “Good. You’ll need it.”
“Papa,” Max greeted casually, unbothered by the tension humming in the air. “Thanks for being here. You’ll keep an eye on her while I’m in the car.”
Belle blinked, surprised. “You didn’t tell me that.”
Max smiled slightly. “Didn’t want to stress you out.”
Jos’s lips twitched. Just barely.
“Sit where you want,” he said to her. “It’s quieter at the back. And if anyone annoys you, tell them you married a Verstappen. That’ll scare them off.”
Max gave him a look. Jos ignored him entirely.
Before Belle could respond, a familiar voice called out from just inside the garage.
“Well, well. You’re finally in the right garage.”
She turned — and smiled fully for the first time that day.
Gianpiero Lambiase stood near his station, headset already slung around his neck, amusement lighting his usually serious expression.
“Hi, GP,” Belle said warmly.
He approached, offering a half-hug, half-handshake that was somehow the perfect balance of affection and professionalism. “Max said you’d be here, but I figured he was bluffing.”
“I almost backed out,” Belle admitted. “Then he bribed me with his jacket and pancakes.”
“Classic Verstappen tactics,” GP deadpanned. “Food, flattery, and limited emotional vocabulary.”
Max, passing behind them, muttered, “I can still hear you.”
GP grinned, unfazed. “Welcome, Belle. We’ve all been betting on when you'd show up.”
She arched a brow. “And who won?”
“Helmut,” GP said, disgusted. “Which is horrifying.”
Max returned, tugging lightly on her sleeve. “Come on. Christian wants to meet you.”
Belle exhaled, nerves fluttering again, but she followed Max past rows of screens and engineers until they stopped in front of Christian Horner, who turned to greet them with the ease of a man who’d already been briefed but was pretending he hadn’t.
“Well, you’ve caused quite the storm.”
Christian Horner.
He approached with that signature half-smile of his, hands in his pockets, a subtle look of curiosity behind the polite charm.
“So this is the mysterious Mrs. Verstappen,” he said warmly. “Finally. The woman who managed to tame our reigning champion. Or so the rumors say.”
“I don’t think anyone tames Max,” Belle said dryly.
Christian laughed. “You might be right. But clearly, you’re the exception.”
She extended a hand, and he shook it firmly.
“Christian Horner,” he added, even though she obviously knew.
“Belle Verstappen,” she said quietly — testing the name again. Feeling it settle.
Christian’s gaze flicked to her left hand, where the emerald caught the overhead lights. “Well, it’s official now. Welcome to the madness.”
Belle took a slow breath as they stepped deeper into the garage, Max’s hand briefly grazing her lower back before he peeled off toward his car.
She watched him go, then looked around at the controlled chaos of Red Bull’s world — the data streams, the techs, the noise, the anticipation.
And for the first time in a long time, she didn’t feel like she was standing on the outside of someone else’s life.
She was here.
She was his.
And the garage was exactly where she was supposed to be.
***
Arthur wasn’t sure what he expected.
Maybe denial. Maybe chaos. Maybe the internet was wrong — maybe Belle hadn’t really married Max Verstappen. Maybe someone had faked the name change. Maybe it was a fever dream.
But then he saw them.
Isabelle. Walking into the paddock like she belonged there. Wearing Max’s jacket. Wearing a wedding band. Holding his hand.
Arthur froze mid-step outside the Ferrari hospitality unit. His coffee trembled in his grip. For a second, he genuinely forgot how to breathe.
Because it wasn’t just that Isabelle was there.
It was the way Max glanced at her every few steps, the way she leaned in slightly when the crowd pressed too close. The way their fingers didn’t untangle, not once. Not even when flashes went off or someone whispered her name like it was blasphemy.
She looked calm. Not smug. Not afraid. Just… calm.
And that was what undid Arthur most.
Because she’d never looked like that before — not at races, not around the family, not anywhere she’d ever been expected to play the silent sibling to Charles’ glory.
She looked like herself. Like someone who had finally been given permission to take up space.
And beside him, Charles looked like he was about to snap.
“Unbelievable,” Charles muttered, voice too low and too bitter. “He couldn’t even tell me. He had to parade her in front of everyone like this?”
Arthur tore his eyes away from Isabelle — reluctantly — and turned toward his older brother.
“Are you serious right now?” he asked.
Charles flinched. “What?”
“She’s walking in with her husband, Charles. Not doing a press tour. What did you think was going to happen?”
“I thought maybe—” Charles stopped, jaw tight. “Maybe she’d have the decency to talk to me first.”
Arthur stared at him. “Decency? Are you hearing yourself?”
Charles ran a hand through his hair, agitated. “She’s my sister—”
“And you’re acting like she’s your possession.”
Charles turned on him. “I’m not—”
“Yes, you are!” Arthur snapped, stepping closer, voice sharp. “You’re acting like she owed you something when all she ever wanted was to be treated like she mattered!”
“Don’t twist this, Arthur,” Charles said, low and warning.
Arthur laughed — harsh, disbelieving. “You forgot her birthday. We forgot her birthday!”
“That was a mistake—”
“We forgot her birthday, and then when she finally chooses herself, finally chooses someone who sees her, you make it about you?”
“She married Max—”
“She married someone who shows up for her,” Arthur interrupted. “Which is more than we’ve done in years.”
Charles’ face tightened.
Arthur kept going. “You don’t get to be the victim here. Not when she’s spent years watching you get cheered while she was ignored. Not when she begged for scraps of attention and we gave her nothing.”
Charles looked like he wanted to argue. He didn’t.
“She stopped trying to be seen by us,” Arthur said quietly. “Because she found someone who already sees her.”
Charles swallowed hard, eyes flicking toward the Red Bull garage where Belle had disappeared with Max minutes ago. “I just… I didn’t think she’d leave us like that.”
“She didn’t leave,” Arthur said. “We just never noticed when she stopped waiting.”
Silence.
Thick. Tense. Regretful.
Charles looked down, jaw clenched. He didn’t say sorry. Not yet. Maybe not ever.
Arthur sighed and set his coffee down on the table beside him.
“If you want to be part of her life now, Charles,” he said. “You’re going to have to show her that you’re finally willing to see her. Not as your sister. As herself.”
Then he walked away, leaving Charles in the middle of the paddock — alone, surrounded by people, and for the first time, not the main character.
***
Belle had just sat down with a cup of tea in the quiet corner of Red Bull hospitality when she heard it.
A voice. Sharp. French-accented. Not loud, but unmistakably firm.
She looked up instinctively — and wasn’t surprised.
Arthur.
Standing just outside the entrance, shoulders tense, hands stuffed into his hoodie pockets like he was trying to shrink into himself. He’d clearly made it through the first layer of staff with that Leclerc charm that used to get him everywhere.
Unfortunately for him, Jos Verstappen was standing by the doorway.
And Jos did not do charm.
“What exactly do you think you’re doing here?” Jos asked, arms crossed tightly over his chest.
Arthur hesitated. “I just—I wanted to talk to her.”
“This isn’t Ferrari,” Jos said, voice calm but cutting. “You don’t get to stroll in here after throwing a tantrum across half the paddock and acting like your sister’s marriage is some kind of betrayal.”
Arthur flushed. “I didn’t throw a tantrum—”
“You don’t belong here,” Jos said. “Not after this morning. Not after the way your brother behaved.”
Arthur’s face flushed. “I came her to…”
“To what?” Jos stepped closer. “Apologize on behalf of Charles? Defend him? Make excuses for how you treated her?”
“No!” Arthur said quickly, hands up. “No. I’m not here for Charles. I’m here for her.”
Belle stood before she even realized she’d moved.
“Jos,” she said, voice soft but clear. “It’s fine.”
He turned toward her, frowning. “Belle—”
“I want to talk to him,” she said.
And for the first time in a very long time, she saw someone else hesitate when talking to her.
Jos studied her face for a beat. Whatever he saw must have been enough, because he gave a terse nod and stepped back. Not far. But far enough to say I’m still watching.
Arthur looked like he was bracing for impact as she walked toward him.
Belle stopped a few steps away, arms crossed loosely. She didn’t hug him. Didn’t cry.
He stopped a little too far away, hands in his pockets, guilt etched into every line of his face.
“You weren’t really trying to sneak past Jos Verstappen, were you?” she finally asked dryly.
Arthur groaned. “I thought maybe if I moved fast enough, he wouldn’t see me.”
A faint smile tugged at Belle’s mouth. “He used to spot Max sneaking out after curfew with a hoodie pulled over his head. You never had a chance.”
Arthur groaned. “I thought maybe if I moved fast enough, he’d blink.”
“He never blinks,” she said.
He cracked a smile, brief and sheepish. “You look good.”
Her expression softened, barely. “You look like you haven’t slept.”
“I haven’t,” he admitted. “Charles is sulking like it’s a championship sport. Maman’s crying into a croissant. Lorenzo’s trying to schedule a family meeting like it’s a UN crisis summit.”
Belle sighed, gaze drifting past him for a moment. “I figured.”
He hesitated. “I didn’t come to defend anyone. Not Charles. Not Maman. I just… I needed to see you. For myself.”
She studied him in silence. Arthur had always been a little caught in the middle — younger than Charles, louder than Lorenzo, trying to carve space where there was none. He wasn’t blameless. But he hadn’t been cruel. Just… complicit.
But he was trying now.
The silence between them wasn’t uncomfortable — just full. Full of all the things left unsaid for too long. All the messages never sent. All the birthday calls missed, the family dinners where she was present but not seen.
“You used to hide in my bed during thunderstorms,” Belle said quietly. “You’d ask me to read the same chapter of Le Petit Prince three times until you fell asleep.”
Arthur blinked, surprised. “You remember that?”
“I remember everything,” Belle said. “I remember the good things. I always tried to.”
His throat worked around the lump there. “Why didn’t you tell me? About Max. About the wedding. About… any of it?”
Belle looked down at the rings on her finger — the green of the emerald glinting faintly under the hospitality lighting, the simple gold band beneath it warm against her skin.
“Because you weren’t really looking,” she said. “None of you were. And I was tired of asking to be seen.”
Arthur didn’t flinch. Didn’t argue.
“I know,” he said instead, voice low and thick. “I think… I’ve known it for a while. I just didn’t know how to face it. But seeing you with Max — the way he looks at you, the way you look at you — I get it now. And I hate that it took this for me to see it.”
“It’s not about hating yourself,” Belle said, gentler this time. “It’s about doing better now. If you want to.”
Arthur looked at her like she was someone new. Someone stronger. Someone who had stopped waiting for the world to recognize her and built a place where she didn’t need permission.
“Are you happy?” he asked, voice barely above a whisper.
She didn’t hesitate.
“Yes.”
He exhaled sharply, like he’d been holding that breath all morning.
“Good,” he said. “That’s all I wanted to know.”
Belle stepped forward then, arms uncrossed, and opened them. The offer was quiet. Soft.
Arthur didn’t hesitate.
He pulled her into a hug like he was afraid she might vanish again. His arms wound around her, shoulders trembling just slightly. Belle hugged him back — firm and steady.
And it felt like something beginning again.
Not perfectly. Not fixed.
But trying.
When they finally stepped apart, Belle offered a quiet, teasing smile. “Next time, use the front entrance. Jos might not be so forgiving twice.”
Arthur groaned. “I’m still recovering. I think he aged me ten years with one sentence.”
She laughed — really laughed, for the first time that day.
Behind them, Jos gave a small grunt from where he stood — arms crossed, unimpressed — but Belle didn’t miss the way one corner of his mouth almost curved.
***
Max didn’t usually seek people out for conversations. Not personal ones, anyway.
He’d spent most of his life guarding things that mattered — like they were fragile, like they’d break if anyone else got too close. But this was different. She was different. And what they had now — what was growing quietly inside her — felt too big to carry on his own.
So he found GP.
It was a lull in the afternoon, the last briefing before the sim work, engineers rotating through data stations like gears in a perfect machine. But GP was by himself, leaning against the telemetry table, one brow raised as Max approached with the kind of expression that said, you better not be about to request a new steering wheel setting.
Max didn’t say anything right away.
GP waited.
“I need to tell you something,” Max said finally. His voice was lower than usual. Not tense — just held close.
GP straightened a little. “What happened?”
“She’s pregnant,” Max said.
The words came out smoother than he expected. Maybe because they’d been sitting on his tongue all day.
GP stared at him. Blinked once. Then again.
And then — grinned.
“Seriously?” he asked, already smiling. “Belle’s pregnant?”
Max nodded once, his throat tight. “Yeah. She told me a few weeks ago.”
GP exhaled a soft laugh, shaking his head. “Bloody hell. I should’ve seen that coming.”
Max raised a brow. “You didn’t?”
“I figured it was either that or you bought her a horse farm.”
Max laughed — properly, finally, the weight of the day cracking just a little. “I might still do that.”
GP was still smiling, but there was something else in his face now — something softer. Warmer.
“Kids are great,” he said, voice lower, more personal now. “I mean, chaotic and exhausting, but… they’re the best thing I’ve ever done.”
Max blinked. “You’ve never said that.”
GP shrugged. “Didn’t seem relevant when you were nineteen and trying to beat Lewis Hamilton into turn one.”
Max huffed a laugh. “Fair.”
There was a pause. A weight in the air — not heavy, but full.
“She’ll be a brilliant mum,” GP added, quieter now. “She’s got that calm strength to her. The kind you don’t notice until it’s the only thing holding you together.”
Max nodded slowly. “I know.”
“And you,” GP said, tapping a finger to Max’s chest, “are going to be fine. More than fine.”
Max hesitated. “Even with…”
“Even with your past? Your dad?” GP finished for him. “You’re not him. You never were.”
Max looked down for a moment, jaw tight. Then, after a long breath, he met GP’s eyes again. “I just want to give that kid something different. Something better.”
“You already are,” GP said simply. “You chose Belle. That’s your first good decision. Choosing that baby every day — that’s your next.”
“I’m scared,” Max admitted.
“Good,” GP said. “That means you give a damn.”
Max nodded once.
“I’m happy for you, mate,” GP added, reaching out and clasping his shoulder. “Really.”
Max nodded again, grateful in a way he didn’t know how to say.
“And just for the record,” GP added dryly, “I had a bet with my wife that you two would get pregnant before Charles figured out you were married.”
Max burst out laughing. “Did she win?”
“She always wins.”
Max was still grinning when he turned to leave, lighter than he’d been all day.
There was so much left to do — more secrets to tell, more people to face — but for now, it was enough that someone knew.
Someone who didn’t just understand racing.
Someone who understood him.
***
From the hospitality suite above the Red Bull garage, Belle had a near-perfect view of the final laps.
The Spanish heat shimmered off the track, waves of it rising like ghosts in the air, but Belle barely noticed. Her fingers gripped the arm of her seat, headset slightly askew, Max’s voice crackling faintly through the speakers — clipped, calm, focused.
She had never liked watching him race before she knew him.
Now, she knew better.
Now, she could hear it in the way he spoke to GP. The way he adjusted. Reacted. Fought, not like a man trying to prove something — but like someone who knew exactly who he was, and who he had waiting for him at the end.
You’ve got three laps left, mate, GP said calmly in her ear.
Copy. Leave it with me.
Belle swallowed hard. Her hand settled instinctively over the front of her stomach, hidden by the loose navy blouse she wore. She hadn’t told many people yet — just Victoria, Sophie, Jos, and Emilie, and now GP, thanks to Max.
But this felt like a secret the whole world would eventually know.
The final sector flew past in a blur. Tyres screamed. Crowds surged.
And then, the chequered flag.
“YES! That’s P1, Max. Well done.”
Belle exhaled a breath she hadn’t realized she’d been holding. Her hand flew to her mouth, and then, just as quickly, to her chest — right over her heart.
He’d done it.
 Again.
The team erupted around her — mechanics cheering, hugging, high-fiving, lifting cans of Red Bull like champagne flutes. Christian was already halfway out the door, and even Jos, who’d been watching beside her with arms crossed, allowed himself a rare smile.
But Belle?
Belle didn’t move.
Not until someone nudged her gently — a team assistant with wide eyes and an even wider grin. “He’s asking for you,” the girl said. “Go. Go!”
Belle blinked. “What?”
“Parc Fermé. He’s already out of the car. Go!”
She didn’t hesitate after that.
The hallways blurred past her — wide corridors filled with team personnel and security and overheated energy. Her flats slapped against the concrete. Her pass flashed in the light. People parted without even realizing it — as if they could feel she belonged to this moment.
She reached the barrier just as Max pulled off his helmet, hair damp with sweat, fire suit unzipped halfway down his chest.
And then he saw her.
His eyes lit up in a way Belle didn’t think he realized he saved for her. He started toward her before the cameras could swarm, before the journalists could shout, before anyone else could get between them.
He crossed to her like he knew she’d be there. Like he’d been driving toward her the whole time.
And Belle didn’t think. Didn’t care about the cameras or the crowd or the fact that Charles was likely still in his car wondering where it all went wrong.
She stepped past the barrier and met him halfway.
And then she kissed him.
There was no hesitation. No coy look at the cameras. No soft-launch subtlety.
Just her hands on his face, his arms wrapping tight around her waist, and the kind of kiss that felt like a homecoming.
The paddock erupted.
Somewhere behind them, a Sky Sports presenter squeaked. David Croft nearly dropped his mic.
Belle pulled back only when Max laughed against her mouth.
“You kissed me in Parc Fermé,” he murmured.
“You won,” she said simply, brushing sweat-mussed hair off his forehead. “You deserve to be kissed.”
Max looked at her for a long moment, then down — briefly, instinctively — at her stomach, where no one else had noticed her hand lingering.
And then he whispered, just for her: “Both of you.”
Belle smiled. “You came home to us safe.”
Max kissed her one more time, softer now, and then turned back toward the swarm of cameras and celebration.
And Belle?
Belle stood at the edge of it all — her lips still tingling, her heart full — knowing the headlines tomorrow would be chaos.
But for now?
She had kissed her husband in front of the entire world.
And she didn’t regret a single second.

FIA Press Conference — Post-Race | Spanish Grand Prix 2024
Drivers: P1 - Max Verstappen (Red Bull Racing), P2 - Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), P3 - Lando Norris (McLaren)
Moderator: Congratulations, Max. A win today. How are you feeling?
Max:  Good. Yeah, car felt great, team executed perfectly. Always nice to win in Barcelona.
Moderator: We’ll open the floor for questions.
Journalist #1: Max, first of all, congratulations. But obviously everyone’s talking about the moment in Parc Fermé. Can you confirm — was that your wife? And are the rumors true that you and Isabelle Leclerc got married in secret?
Max: Yes. That was my wife. And yes — we got married in Monaco a few weeks ago. We’re very happy.
Lando: (muttering into his mic) Understatement of the century.
Lewis: (grinning) Congrats, man.
Journalist #2: Max, there’s been a lot of talk online about Belle’s birthday being forgotten by her family and this being the reason she pulled away from them. Any comment on that?
Max: No.
Journalist #2: Nothing at all?
Max: (calmly) No.
Journalist #3: There’s a narrative online that Belle’s been overlooked for years. Some say this entire paddock entrance and Parc Fermé kiss was a statement. Was that intentional?
Max: (dryly)  We walked in holding hands. We kissed. We’re married. If that counts as a statement, I don’t know what to tell you.
Journalist #4: Do you think this will affect your dynamic with Charles Leclerc?
Max: (expression flat) We’ll see. That’s between him and his sister. I’m just here to race cars and go home to my wife.
Lando: (quietly, to Lewis) He’s in his “husband first, world champion second” era.
Lewis: (laughing into his mic) He really is.
Journalist #6: Do you plan on making any public statement about the family fallout?
Max: No. That’s her story to tell, not mine. And frankly, it’s not gossip. It’s real life. So maybe let’s show a little respect.
Journalist #7: What was going through your mind when she kissed you in Parc Fermé?
Max: (finally smiling) That I’m the luckiest guy in the world.
Journalist #8: Will your wife be traveling with you to more races now?
Max (still polite, still done):  We‘ll decide what works best for us as a family. That’s between us.
Reporter #9: Was Belle’s presence in the paddock today a signal? Especially given what happened with Charles—
Max: (cuts in, voice calm but firmer) Belle doesn’t need to signal anything. She’s not a statement. She’s a person. And she came today to support her husband. That’s all.
Moderator: Alright, I think we’ll wrap it there before anyone pushes their luck. Congratulations to all three drivers. Max, Lando, Lewis — thank you.
Lando (leaning into mic): Congrats again, mate. On the win and the wife.

Fred Vasseur closed the door harder than necessary.
The sound echoed through the otherwise silent room like a gunshot.
Charles looked up from where he was sitting on the small couch, still in his fireproofs, helmet discarded beside him. He was sweaty, tired, irritated — and entirely unprepared.
“Qu’est-ce que tu fais, Charles?” Fred said sharply. What are you doing?
Charles blinked. “What—?”
“You want to explain to me,” Fred continued, voice calm in the most dangerous way possible, “how your sister kissing Max Verstappen became the story of our weekend?”
Charles sat up straighter. “That’s not fair—”
“No?” Fred crossed the room, standing over him now. “Because I think it’s very fair. You let your personal drama become a paddock sideshow, and now everyone’s talking about the Leclerc family meltdown while we limp home with a P5 and a ruined PR day.”
“I didn’t ask for that to happen!”
“But you made sure it did,” Fred snapped. “You didn’t know Belle got married. Fine. You didn’t approve of who she married. Fine. You could’ve said nothing. But instead, you threw a tantrum. In the paddock. In group chats. Loud enough that half the drivers are mocking you and the other half are wondering if you even see your sister as a person.”
Charles flushed. “That’s not—”
“You forgot her birthday, Charles.”
The silence that followed was absolute.
Fred didn’t yell. He didn’t need to.
“You forgot her birthday. You forgot her job. You forgot she moved. And when she stopped chasing your attention, you acted like she betrayed you.” His voice didn’t rise, but it sharpened with every word. “And now you’re shocked that the only person she trusted to hold her hand through it all was the man who sees her every single day?”
Charles looked away, jaw tight. “It wasn’t supposed to be public.”
Fred laughed — once, bitter and short. “And yet you’re the one who made it public. Max didn’t. Belle didn’t. You did. And now you’ve made us look like amateurs — not because of strategy, but because you couldn’t handle the fact that your sister’s life isn’t orbiting around you anymore.”
Charles opened his mouth. Closed it. No words came.
Fred sighed — not in exasperation, but in disappointment. And that hurt more.
“I expected more from you,” he said quietly. “As a driver, yes. But more than that — as a man. As a brother.”
Charles flinched like he’d been hit.
“You want to fix this?” Fred said, stepping back. “Then stop sulking. Start listening. And for the love of God, don’t let Max Verstappen be the better man in every single room you enter.”
He turned and walked to the door.
“Because right now?” he added, hand on the handle. “He’s not just beating you on track. He’s beating you in every other way that matters.”
And then he left.
Charles stayed seated, eyes burning, the silence pressing heavier than any helmet ever had.
***
Dinner had started out exactly the way Belle expected.
Loud. Warm. Slightly unhinged.
They were tucked into a quiet corner of a restaurant just off the Barcelona marina — the kind of place Max loved because no one there cared about racing unless it blocked traffic. The table was round, the lighting dim and golden, and the laughter had already started before the appetizers arrived.
Lando had barely let Max sit down before declaring, “You’re disgusting. You win a race and then get kissed like it’s a Netflix finale. Get out.”
“Jealousy doesn’t suit you,” Max had said, completely unbothered.
Oscar, seated beside Lily, just smirked. “It was kind of romantic.”
Lily looked between the two of them with a soft smile. “Kind of? It broke the Internet.”
Daniel had toasted “to hard launches, soft kisses, and Verstappen chaos,” and Belle had nearly snorted water through her nose.
But now dinner had mellowed. Plates cleared. Dessert on the way. The kind of soft lull that usually came right before someone said something life-changing.
Max glanced at Belle. That look — gentle, checking, asking without words.
She nodded once.
He cleared his throat lightly. “We actually… wanted to tell you guys something.”
Four pairs of eyes snapped to attention.
“Tell me you’re moving to the countryside and buying a farm,” Lando said immediately. “Please. I need this arc.”
“Better,” Max said, eyes flicking toward Belle.
Belle rested her hands on the edge of the table. Her heart was fluttering, not with nerves exactly — more like awe. Like the moment was finally catching up to her.
“I’m pregnant,” she said.
There was a pause.
A moment of stunned silence.
And then—
“NO YOU’RE NOT,” Daniel half-shouted, nearly knocking over his wine glass.
Lily gasped, hands flying to her mouth. “Are you serious?!”
Oscar just stared, mouth slightly open like his brain had hit the brakes.
Lando blinked twice, then pointed between them. “Like… with a baby baby?”
Belle burst into laughter — the tension cracking wide open. Max was already grinning like he’d been waiting for this chaos all night.
“Yes, Lando,” Belle said, wiping at her eyes. “A baby baby.”
Oscar finally found his voice. “How long have you known?”
“A few weeks,” Max said. “We’re keeping it quiet for now. But we wanted you to know first.”
Lily leaned across the table, eyes wide and shining. “You’re going to be parents. Oh my god. That baby is going to have cheekbones and a death stare.”
“And probably a kart by age two,” Daniel added, now fully beaming. “Holy shit. Max Verstappen’s going to be a dad. I need to sit down.”
“You are sitting down,” Oscar said, still blinking like he hadn’t caught up.
“I need to sit down harder,” Daniel muttered.
Lando reached for Belle’s hand across the table, squeezing it. “You’re going to be amazing.”
Belle swallowed the sudden lump in her throat. “I’m scared,” she admitted. “But… I’m also happy. Really happy.”
Max’s hand found her thigh under the table, grounding and steady. She didn’t have to look to know he was watching her with that same soft, almost reverent expression he’d had ever since she told him.
Oscar was smiling now too, the initial shock melting into something warm. “Congratulations,” he said. “Both of you. Really.”
“And selfishly,” Lily added, “I’m just glad we get to love this baby too.”
Daniel raised his glass. “To the official grid baby.”
“We’re not calling them that,” Belle said immediately.
“To Max spiraling when the baby kicks for the first time,” Oscar added, grinning.
“To all of it,” Lando finished. “To them.”
They clinked glasses — softly, gently.
And as Belle looked around at the people who had chosen her — not because she was someone’s sister, not because she was attached to a name — but because they loved her, her heart felt impossibly full.
The world could stay outside tonight.
This was theirs.
