Concept art
Tarturt. Duck
In my current run on Stardew Valley on a co-op farm with my husband, we have a duck that has escaped from the pen over and over. At times, he even beelines for the gate the moment it is open.
This gave me an idea for a Mighty Ducks: The Animated Series OC
This is the result.
@draconianrex is awesome for encouraging me.

Some fun practice, because MD:TAS probably spent most of their design budget on the Ducks and the Saurians (I weep for whoever needs to draw Dragaunus in all those frames) and ended up with some oddly-cobbled humans who I figure I could spruce up a bit for this human AU!
AU!Natter below as usual, original setup found here, Duke and Mallory content here and here.
Halford Klegghorn
Same old bastard he’s always been though with more agency! He’s now captain of the NYC’s 10th Precinct and is actually Mallory’s commanding officer.
An ornery old POS who gets irked whenever Mallory tries to take on something above her paygrade as he likes to call it, but cuts her some slack and even covers for her if she actually succeeds in breaking a case.
Mistrustful of Duke, doesn’t like Mallory sniffing around that sleazebag because Duke has a way with people but he sees right through them oh yes he does.
Despite being a weathered gremlin of a captain, he takes shit from no one and during the Saurian invasion, pulls a Tyrion Lannister and rallies his precinct to form the first line of defense in urban warfare.
Doesn’t like to talk about his family, may be the reason he’s more protective of Mallory than sensible given their hierarchical differences.
Busby ‘Buzz’ Blitzman
A 12yr-old child genius who worked alongside Tanya for a while innovating new tech.
His lack of family leaves him with the issue of latching on to people quickly and he is, as is appropriate for his age and sheltered upbringing, extremely naive despite his stupendous booksmarts.
Is actually an honorary member of the Team in this AU after Mallory and Duke free him from Saurian confinement and he ends up tagging along with them to the point where they figure they’ve accidentally adopted a kid now.
Stays behind during missions, can usually be found tinkering with new tech in the lab or watching cartoons in the rec room. Occasionally provides Command Center services if Tanya has to be with the Team on recon.
Considers the Team his family, unfailingly loyal to them.
Thrash & Mookie
The same couple of good-natured slackers they were in the original! Except also rebels now?
They’re the closest friends Nate/’Nosedive’ has, with him having worked at their store and was inspired to draw his own comics by them before he was strongarmed into the Air Force by his dad.
The comic store was basically a joint venture between them which ended up being a safe space for the children in their neighborhoods, with latchkey kids hanging out there until their parents were back. This leads them to using the space for other ‘after-school’ activities for local youth ie. DnD sessions, drawing classes and a Comics Club.
During the invasion, live in NYC’s underground subway/tunnel systems where most of the populace who couldn’t be evacuated to safe zones end up taking refuge.
Often head to the surface to get supplies for the crew and scout for people who need rescue from Saurian hunting squads to report back to the Team.

......So when you google search for MD:TAS one of the top results is a drawing of mine from DeviantArt that is now a decade old, and like
People keep using it instead of the official art for things

And every time I read the comment section no one says a damn thing about the two characters on the right that they don’t quite remember being in the show

Unrelated to anything, but yesterday was MD:tAS’s 25th anniversary!
So hey, I picked the perfect time to adapt the boy for this blog.

as far as shiro dying goes i think i'd be more ok with it if he were a different kind of character, and if the way they were going to treat his death were better. 'cause if the way the characters reacted when they *thought* he was dead is any indication they were just going to shrug and move on, force keith to move on, and not care to get any closure for what really happened to shiro. which is very uncomfortable, and unusual, when you get down to it, for kids stories where death is a thing.
Well, actually, no one knew Shiro was dead at the beginning of Season 3. They just didn’t know what happened to him.
And my first fandom was actually Mighty Ducks: The Animated Series, where the leader of the group, Canard, disappeared in Dimensional Limbo and left a mystical mask to his best friend, Wildwing, who promised to look for Canard….but was forced to move on the very next episode and become the team’s new leader.
So…it’s really not a new concept in a kid’s show since MD:TAS aired in the late nineties. Is it still unsettling? Sure.
But death is something that needs to be treated in a certain way, and if presented incorrectly, it’s frustrating. This is a great post with a great infographic about killing characters, and though I know from a recent discussion with someone in the fandom, a few people feel that killing Shiro would advance the plot.
And though taking him out for a few or nineteen episodes - though that didn’t need to happen - has helped to advance some other characters’ growth, it also took a WOC out of a leadership role, continued torture on a minority and disabled character, and forced another character to pull away from the team and almost get himself killed.
So killing said minority and disabled character shouldn’t be on the EPs’ list of things to do. Instead, saving that character and helping him to succeed should be a priority. And if it’s not, then I won’t be watching any further.
Since I don’t like to end a post on a negative note, please enjoy this lovely picture of Shiro being Shiro.

Omg I'm watching rid15 and my brother says the sideswipe and Strongarm are like Sly and Carmelita from the sly Cooper games.
DUDE YES /THAT EXACTLY/
Man I LOVED the Sly Cooper games when they came out too, between that and shipping Duke and Mallory in MD:TAS, morally-ambiguous debonair and cop lady done with his bullshit engaging in flirting and snark like they’re exchanging gunfire is definitely one of my favorite dynamics :’3

Unresolved Sexual Tension so thick you could slice it with a Ducksabre.
MD:TAS’s Duke and Mallory were my first major shipping couple from way before I knew what shipping was and I’m 720% here for Badass law enforcement lady and Supportive Catburglar Boyfriend shenanigans.
Take that shot Red, he’s got you.
(Mal’s well-aware that Duke can absolutely slip out of those handcuffs if he wanted to——this is about the time, in this Human!AU anyway, when, after working together to protect NYC, she makes him a proposition to join her on Wildwing’s team—-and he’s done so many times during their ‘dances’ as he likes to call them, but tellingly, this time he doesn’t.)
If MD:TAS ever gets a decent reboot I’m waving the shipping flag for these two high :’3
