'New Year Surprises'
Summary: On New Years Eve, Tegan and Nyssa stop off to pick up Mel on their way to Yaz's party and get a bit of a shock.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Read on AO3.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
‘I still don’t know why we couldn’t have just called UNIT for a lift,’ Tegan muttered, as she followed Nyssa up the staircase. ‘Kate did say we’re priority as former TARDIS occupants.’
‘Because firstly, that would be taking advantage,’ Nyssa replied, with a giggle. ‘And secondly, I think we both needed the walk.’
‘The walk from ours to the tube station and then from the other tube station to here?’
‘Yes,’ Nyssa said, turning and pressing a quick kiss to her wife’s cheek. ‘I knew you’d understand.’
The Australian rolled her eyes fondly and followed Nyssa through the door onto Mel’s floor.
‘I hope Mel doesn’t mind catching the tube with us to Yaz’s,’ she said, removing her woolly hat from atop her head. ‘Must be strange for her, not being here with Ace this year.’
‘True, but I suppose Ace was here for Christmas. Now… five… six- ah, here we are.’
Nyssa rapped smartly on the door, before stepping back a respectful pace. Tegan grinned sideways at the Trakenite, taking in the long burgundy scarf and hat that complimented the black overcoat she was wearing. Curls of brown hair -greying slightly nowadays- poked out from under the hat.
‘What?’
‘Nothing,’ Tegan said, still smiling. ‘Just thought you look particularly ravishing this evening.’
Nyssa’s cheeks flushed prettily and she giggled.
‘I seem to remember you being the ravishing one this morning, Tegan-’
‘Ssshhh!’
The two women descended into giggles.
There was a turning of the door handle, and the redheaded form of Mel Bush appeared, a wide smile on her face.
‘Hello, lovelies!’ she exclaimed. ‘No need to stand on ceremony; come in, come in…’
As they stepped into the warmth of Mel’s flat, Tegan and Nyssa both zipped off their coats, which Mel quickly hung on a stand nearby.
‘Sorry, I’m running late,’ Mel said, gesturing to her half-damp frizz of red hair and the pink fluffy bathrobe she was wearing. ‘I swear, today has flown by…’
After the older two women had removed their boots, Mel bustled them both into the kitchen and into two wooden chairs beside the table, both of them were covered in cushions. Mel’s interior design skills tended to focus on a sweet spot between functional and cosy, meaning her flat was comfortable yet airy.
‘Happy New Years!’ Mel exclaimed, as she put the kettle on. ‘Coffee? Tea?’
‘One hot chocolate for me,’ Nyssa said. ‘Decaf coffee for my wife.’
‘I’m not that bad, Nys.’
‘Your GP said otherwise,’ Nyssa cheeked, dimples appearing as she smiled sideways knowingly. ‘No caffeine after midday, if I remember their exact phrasing.’
A few minutes later, Mel placed the two mugs down in front of her friends, and sat down across the table from them.
‘I thought that Christmas party we had was lovely,’ she said, with a smile. ‘It was wonderful to see everyone again.’
‘Well, almost everyone,’ Tegan said, wryly. ‘I don’t think Yaz was up for seeing the Doctor again.’
‘True, but she doesn’t celebrate Christmas anyway,’ Nyssa added. ‘Hopefully, tonight will be a good chance for us all to catch up.’
‘Exactly,’ Mel agreed. ‘How are you enjoying Hanukkah this year, Tegan?’
The Australian shrugged.
‘I’m not really religious but Nys did suggest we get a menorah.’
Nyssa smiled, squeezing her wife’s hand before turning her attention back to Mel.
‘By the way, how are you coping with Ace not being here?’
‘Oh, you know,’ the redhead said, with a sigh. ‘It could be worse. It was lovely spending Christmas with her but UNIT work can’t wait any longer.’
‘Japan, wasn’t it?’
‘Yes; apparently there’s some potential extra-terrestrial activity happening there at the minute, so Kate asked Ace to get the first flight out on Boxing Day.’
Tegan and Nyssa smiled sadly over the table at her.
‘Oh, don’t you two start!’ Mel laughed, as she got out of her chair and grabbed a biscuit from a tin on the counter. ‘I’ve already had Jo suggesting I pop over to Wales to stay with her family for the rest of the holidays.’
‘And you didn’t take that offer up?’
‘I had other offers- oh, speak of the devil.’
Yasmin Khan walked into the kitchen, towelling her hair off. She was wearing a long-sleeved t-shirt and a pair of jeans.
‘I thought I heard other voices,’ she said, cheerfully, apparently not noticing that Tegan’s mouth had fallen open. ‘Hello, both; all good?’
‘They’ve popped round to pick me up,’ Mel said.
‘Brill; I’m heading back to mine so I’ll see you both later,’ Yaz replied and -to the shock of Tegan and Nyssa- promptly gave Mel’s rear end a quick squeeze. ‘See you later as well, Mel.’
‘Bye,’ Mel said, with a grin.
Yaz shot Mel a lopsided smile, before pressing a quick kiss to her cheek and heading out of the kitchen. A few moments later, there was the sound of the front door closing behind her.
It was at this moment that Tegan’s voice finally returned to her.
‘What -in the bloody hell- is going on?’
‘Well, Yaz needed to leave now to get back to help Martha set up-’
‘You know fully well I’m not referring to that!’ Tegan exclaimed, cheeks still flushed. ‘You… when… why…’
‘I think what Tegan is trying to say,’ Nyssa interjected, putting a steadying hand on Tegan’s arm. ‘Is that Yasmin appeared to walk out after apparently sharing a shower with you.’
‘Oh… yes,’ Mel said, nonplussed. ‘What of it?’
‘What of it?’ Tegan repeated. ‘Ace has been barely out of the country for five minutes and you’re already having it away with a woman young enough to be your daughter!’
Mel frowned at her.
‘I’m guessing Ace forgot to tell you that her and I have an open relationship? Or are you just being judgemental, Tegan?’
Tegan blinked.
‘You’re… you’re serious?’
‘I’m not lying, if that’s what you mean,’ Mel replied. ‘Ace sees other people and so do I; we discussed it between us and we find it works out quite well.’
‘Ah, I have heard of people having relationships like that,’ Nyssa said, as Tegan opened and closed her mouth in bewilderment. ‘Quite a few amongst the staff on Terminus used to; it was handy for childcare and things like that.’
‘B-but…’ Tegan spluttered. ‘Yaz?’
‘Listen, I know you regard her as something of a surrogate niece,’ Mel said, crossing the room and sitting down again. ‘But she’s not a child. She’s a grown woman, Tegan.’
Tegan stared for a moment.
‘Er… sorry,’ she mumbled. ‘That was rude of me. Mouth and brain weren’t working together for a minute there.’
‘It’s quite all right. Tegan,’ Mel said, with good grace. ‘I probably should have expected that reaction. I mean, neither of you were to know.’
‘So…’ Nyssa said, patting Tegan’s hand gently as she looked back at Mel. ‘How did you two…’
‘It happened after one of the support meetings,’ Mel explained. ‘Yaz was feeling a bit down because of everything that happened with the Doctor, and Ace was away in South America at the time. I invited her back here for a movie night, we started cuddling during the sad scenes in “The Holiday”, one thing led to another and… well, we woke up in bed together the next morning.’
‘But how do you know that-’
‘Sans clothes.’
‘Ah.’
‘It kept happening every so often when Ace was out of the country, so me and Yaz discussed it and decided to make it a casual thing. Whenever we both get a bit lonely, you see.’
‘And…’ Tegan said. ‘And the age thing doesn’t have an impact?’
‘Yaz doesn’t seem to mind,’ Mel said, with a slight twinkle in her eye. ‘Especially since I’m still very flexible from when I used to dance-’
‘Alright, alright!’ Tegan exclaimed, feeling her cheeks flush. ‘You don’t have to spell it out!’
Mel laughed again, and stood up.
‘I’m going to get changed for the party,’ she said. ‘Give me half an hour and I’ll be ready.’
‘Okay.’
With a smile, the redhead headed out of the room.
Nyssa turned to her wife.
‘Has the shock finally worn off?’
‘Mostly. Just wondering how we managed to miss that two of our friends were casual lovers.’
‘Well, our lives have been pretty hectic,’ Nyssa giggled. ‘Good thing we were away on holiday when all that Sutekh nonsense was happening.’
‘I’m still find stray bits of sand in our wardrobe,’ Tegan said, with a roll of her eyes.
‘At least we’ll have a bit of gossip to talk with Yaz about now.’
‘Oh, heck; Ryan makes enough jokes about Yaz liking older women as it is…’
*
‘Welcome!’ Yaz grinned as she opened the door of the small flat she shared with Martha Jones. The sound of the party blossomed out from behind her; Tegan could make out a stereo playing music, as well as numerous raised voices. Given that so many people were packed inside, that didn’t surprise her. ‘Can I get your coats?’
‘Oh, you are a dear,’ Mel said. ‘Can I help with setting things up?’
‘Thanks but no need,’ Yaz said, as she gathered the older women’s coats together. ‘I’ll just pop these in me room.’
Yaz disappeared, and Mel turned to the Australian.
‘Tegan, you’re not going to be weird about me and Yaz, are you?’
‘No, I’m not!’ Tegan exclaimed. ‘Can we please move on from that? It’s really none of my business who you’re-’
‘Seeing,’ Nyssa finished, quickly. ‘We really don’t mind, Mel; we’re happy for you.’
Mel gave a giddy laugh.
‘In that case, I’ll grab us some drinks. Back in a mo!’
Nyssa smiled fondly at her wife.
‘Tegan…’
‘I know, I know…’
A few minutes later, the redhead returned and Tegan took her glass of pink lemonade from Mel with good grace.
Yaz -who had returned by this point- slipped an arm around Mel, and steered the redhead away to where Ryan, Martha and a few other younger people were stood, along with Kate and Osgood.
‘Happy New Year!’
Graham grinned, raising a glass of lemonade as he passed Tegan and Nyssa on his way to rejoin his grandson.
Yaz laughed as Mel pecked her on the cheek. Graham chuckled.
‘Shame Ace isn’t here,’ he said, grinning. ‘She’d make it into a tug-of-war for who can hold Mel longer.’
‘I wouldn’t mind that,’ Mel laughed. ‘But I’d worry about one of them being left out.’
Tegan inclined her head to speak softly into Nyssa’s ear.
‘This is gonna take a while to get used to,’ she said, quietly.
‘Well, it seems to make them all happy,’ Nyssa replied. ‘Maybe just keep a button on your lip until it becomes normal to you.’
Tegan sighed.
‘I’ll try. Sorry, love; I know I’m being a bit weird about this.’
‘No need to apologise, my darling,’ Nyssa said, softly. ‘I was as surprised as you were; it just so happens that you have a better knack for speaking up than I do.’
‘Meaning I can’t keep my mouth shut when I probably should,’ Tegan groaned.
Nyssa chuckled and wrapped an arm around her wife’s waist, bumping their hips gently together.
‘Well, Mel didn’t seem too bothered and Yaz didn’t overhear, so no harm done.’
‘I guess,’ Tegan grumbled, resting her head on Nyssa’s shoulder. ‘I take it that a second apology to Mel is out of the question?’
‘Yes,’ Nyssa giggled. ‘How about we settle for ringing in the new year with our friends?’
‘That sounds nice.’
The party gradually got more and more exuberant as midnight approached. Ryan and Martha took to their new party trick of throwing popcorn into each other’s mouths from several paces away, causing much laughter. Tegan and Nyssa, neither of whom were drinking, took to brushing up the mess with the flat’s broom.
Tegan was just placing the last bunch into the bin when there was an almighty flash.
‘What the-Ace?’
‘It worked!’ exclaimed the delighted Ace, who had just appeared in the middle of the sitting room. ‘I knew you were onto something with that do-hicky, Osgood!’
It was at this point that Mel threw herself into Ace’s arms and kissed her full on the mouth. There was another outbreak of cheering and applause.
It was at that moment that the clock struck midnight, and the room erupted in jubilation.
Tegan placed the broom against the wall and turned. The Australian smiled at her wife and pressed a kiss to her lips.
‘Happy New Year, Nyssa.’
The Trakenite grinned, and slipped her arm around Tegan’s waist, pulling her closer. Their lips met again.
‘Happy New Year, my darling.’

Thanks for reading, everyone; hope you all have a great new years and a fantastic 2025! Rest assured, I have not forgotten my current Work-In-Progress; the next chapter is just taking a little while than usual due to IRL stuff (I was ill for a week and have only just gotten back to normal).

*Half an hour after that scene in Donna's garden*
Mel: Well, Doctor, I'm really glad to hear that you've been able to work past your grief about Yaz-
TenThree: *falls backwards off their chair and freezes up*
Donna: *swivelling her head slowly around* Spaceman... who's Yaz?
TenThree: *eyes widening in horror* Er, well...
*ten minutes later*
Donna: WHAT DO YOU MEAN, YOU LEFT HER BARELY THREE DAYS AGO?
TenThree: Listen, it made sense at the time, I swear-
Rose: That seems rather cold, Doctor.
Mel: Maybe this is a bad time to mention that I told the companion group-chat about you being here...
TenThree: *groaning* Tegan is going to bash my head in-

A lot of people are taking this to mean timepetals/tenrose stuff. And that's not incorrect. But I left it open ended on purpose, the options from that episode are endless.
I did specify "ending" in my og post, so maybe that’s why—but that entire episode is pure shipping fuel.
Like, “You thought of me every night.” from the Rani to Mel? That’s going to fuel Classic Who shippers for years. YEARS.
And don't get me started on the Yaz/13 sapphic tragedies this episode is increasing the word counts of as we speak.
As for the Rani x Omega crowd? I don’t know what they’re cooking right now, and I’m too afraid to look.
You know who really wins with that ending? The fan-fiction writers. They're gonna have a field day with this one.

THE STAR BEAST
Is about the RTD era. It’s set in dimly lit London streets. The Doctor avoids going to UNIT directly. Queer identity is at the center of it. The Metacrisis DoctorDonna comes back. He meets a woman named Rose. The plot is moved by strange unexplained coincidences. The Shadow Proclamation is invoked. There’s a big obvious spaceship crash that wasn’t an accident like in Aliens of London. There’s alien law enforcement hunting a real villain like smith and Jones. The Doctor is separated from Donna by a clear barrier like he is from Wilf in end of time. But instead of losing her, he gets her back. She remembers him. Journey’s End is undone.
WILD BLUE YONDER
Is about the Chibnall era. We’re separated from the TARDIS like in Ghost Monument, facing creatures beyond our universe like in It takes you away, Can you Hear me? And Flux. We’re on a spaceship nearly outside of the universe, failing to get as far as Tecteun wanted to go. We’re reminded the Doctor isn’t from this universe. Of the destruction of the Flux that the Doctor failed to stop. And the Doctor refuses to let Donna in, to tell her how badly this is affecting him, just like 13 didn’t let Yaz in. He even almost chooses the wrong Donna near the end. In a different way, 13 also didn’t choose Yaz.
We’re scratching the surface of the Doctor’s trauma but the Flux isn’t the real problem. She’d been keeping her companions out since before that. Why? What happened to the doctor in between Donna and the flux?
THE GIGGLE
Is about the Moffat era. There’s great emphasis on how old the Doctor is, that is the same old Doctor we met in the 60s. We’re reminded how the Doctor lost Amy, Clara and Bill, and the Doctor’s focus is on protecting Donna and Mel over the actual planetary stakes. Time is rewritten. There’s a too-good-to-be-true happy ending. There’s a lot going on.
The Doctor hasn’t stopped moving since losing Bill. Really, he hasn’t stopped since long before then. But the Bi-generation gives him a way to stop without depriving the universe of the Doctor. Amy, Bill, and Clara didn’t just die. They got second chances at life, with their own chosen companions (Rory, Heather and Me) . And at the end of his short journey, 14 gets that same fate. He dies, but finally gets a happy, restful life. Meanwhile 15, already feeling the benefits of his past self’s rest, journeys on.

So I'm thinking about the Fourteenth Doctor, and the bi-generation, and how he may have come to an end. What happened to him after those years he spent with Donna and her family, and with so many other friends on Earth (oh, I am headcanon-ing, friends), existing day-to-day and beginning to heal? After he learned how to let himself be loved, and shown compassion, and forgiven—and, eventually, learned to love, forgive, and care for himself? What happened when, at the end of this journey, his regeneration energy (I assume?) traveled back (in some hand-wavey fashion) to become the Fifteenth Doctor, who is born out of that love and forgiveness and compassion and is ready to move forward in the universe?
Fourteen becomes Fifteen—but what about the TARDIS?
Tumblr media
Fourteen's TARDIS was created for the same reason Fourteen was: they needed to slow down, to be gentle. They needed to find a home that wasn't moving at the speed of light. So maybe this TARDIS is a little gentler, too. Maybe she's a little more careful of herself and her charges.
When Fourteen takes Rose to Mars, they land right where they're supposed to, and Rose sees wonders. Nothing bad happens, and they return home five minutes after they left.
When Shaun wants to see a football match from 1988, he opens the TARDIS door and she takes him right there, flying all by herself, to Fourteen's chagrin.
When Fourteen takes Mel to New York, they have adventures that don't involve running, or hiding, or screaming with anything but laughter. When Fourteen takes Jo, Ace, and Tegan to the Jurassic era, the only danger he faces is when he makes an age joke.
When, after Sarah Jane dies (yeeeears in the future, tyvm), Fourteen takes Luke, Maria, Clyde, and Rani to see Florana—the place he promised to take Sarah Jane all those years ago—the TARDIS chooses the safest, most beautiful moment in time for them to honor her memory.
When Donna and Martha and Yaz and Shirley sneak in for a joyride, they have the time of their lives, and the TARDIS covers for them. (Fourteen suspects, but can't prove it.)
When Fourteen is struggling, and chafing at life on Earth, and just needs to run, to fix things, to solve puzzles, to get away from the day-to-day of it all, the TARDIS lets him. She takes him so many places he's never been before, and they're all beautiful and wild and remind him what he loves about the universe.
(He tries, a few times, to go places that might bring him pain, and she gently refuses.)
And every now and then, someone will try to get in. This TARDIS doesn't have a key; she just opens to those in her care, and refuses entry to those she doesn't trust. She is safe, and so are they.
When Donna's in her eighties and can't get around as easily, the TARDIS takes her where she can manage. When Rose is overwhelmed with the pain of the world, the TARDIS takes her to places where none of that pain exists, and lets her stay as long as she needs to.
They live magnificent lives, and the TARDIS takes care of them. And then, at the end of it, Fourteen is ready for what comes next, and he becomes Fifteen. There's only one Doctor again.
But this TARDIS...
I think she stays, right in the corner of that yard. She leaves and then lands so precisely that roots and ivy grow over her. The Doctor is gone, and eventually Mel and Sarah Jane and Jo and Donna and Martha and everyone that traveled with the Doctor once upon a time in a different TARDIS are gone too.
But Rose is still there. Luke, Maria, Rani, and Clyde are still there. Their families, their kids. The TARDIS opens to them, and shows them the universe. She takes them only where she chooses to, and it's always exactly where they need to go.
She always takes them home, to the garden that once belonged to Donna Noble.
The Doctor finds new companions. Some of them come home to Earth after awhile, but they're not stuck dreaming of the universe. You showed me the furthest reaches of the galaxy, Sarah Jane said. You showed me supernovas, intergalactic battles, and then you just dropped me back on Earth. How could anything compare to that? We get a taste of that splendor, but then we have to go back.
These new companions, they return to Earth and their lives there, but every now and then, they swing by that old house that the Noble family has lived in for generations. They say hello to this old/new box, and she invites them in.
They don't have to say goodbye to the universe. She's right there in Chiswick, waiting for them.
And sometimes—on rare occasions, when they need it, or when he (or she, or they) does—she takes them to the Doctor.

The Reality War: five female characters who were done dirty, and one who wasn’t
1. Belinda. As others on this site have said, she started as a strong, independent character, opposing the doctor when he goes too far, living in a house share, wanting to get back to her life. Then the biggest retcon in history, completely unexplained, that she is a mother who wanted to get back to her child. The only thing that makes less sense than this is the doctor regenerating because the child they made up together (did they? Or was this the space baby Poppy?) was about to not exist?
What makes this even more depressing is the context of Wish World being misogynistic and idealising women as mothers, then forcing Belinda into this role. With Ruby, there were previous themes of caring for and adopting children, so this whole plot line plays into the idea it was written for Ruby, and Belinda was shoehorned in instead.
2. Ruby. No goodbye? The doctor didn’t even say goodbye to her? It was insane not to have this, given the long time they were together and her continued presence as some kind of secondary companion this season. And then he knows he’s about to regenerate and doesn’t say goodbye. The only way I think this is possible is that the last 20 mins of the show were late reshoot and they couldn’t get her/fit in the goodbye scene.
3. Susan. You don’t show a loaded gun without the gun going off. Why was Susan’s return trailed both on the screen and with a storyline about the doctor’s daughter, only to have her not only not return at the end, but also not even show up as an image onscreen? Where is that reunion with the doctor that the fans have been waiting for?
4. The Rani. Got eaten by a big skeleton. The Rani had so much potential! Could have been so great! But all they both did was chat and there were no actual scenes that merited bringing her back. In fact, her original identity as evil scientist was barely present: they could have replaced her with generic evil god.
5. Mel. Why does she never get to do anything? Kate too? In this they were just shooting bone beasts, which was the smallest stakes thing: Mel has faced the Rani before so I was hoping she’d take her down. Nope, the Rani just gets randomly eaten by Omega.
Other things that are making me angry:
WHY DO THEY KEEP CREATING UGLY CGI CREATIONS WHEN THE ORIGINAL OMEGA CHARACTER DESIGN WAS RIGHT THERE?
WHY DID THE DOCTOR SAVE THE DAY BY SHOOTING OMEGA WITH A LASER WEAPON?
WHY DID THE REGENERATION COME OUT OF NOWHERE? (Maybe because it was added after)
I do have some positives.
1. Thirteen: she came back!!! And what a cameo. It was really lovely to see her again and interacting with fifteen, that whole scene with their banter was top tier, especially the nod to Tennant repeatedly returning. I loved how she reflected on loving Yaz, that was a beautiful moment, 10/10, no notes.
And fifteen. He only had 2 seasons and appeared in a couple of specials, but what a doctor. He is up there for me: his emotion, freedom of expression and the pure love for humanity and his companions. He was incredible and it’s a shame this era has come to an end so soon.
I’m cautiously optimistic about Billie Piper: she is a fantastic actress and the wording around her being the doctor or possibly some kind of trick was interesting. My hope is for a special where she is not the doctor but the bad wolf goddess of time, but we’ll see…
Overall, weak episode, weaker season finale, thirteen’s return was great and fifteen will be missed.

Random Doctor Who Facts You Might Not Know, Part 37
When Mel was 18 months old, she accidentally caused her older sister Anabel to fall down the stairs, which ended up killing her. Mel repressed the memories of her sister's death, and her parents decided to keep Anabel a secret from her. (Novel: Spiral Scratch)
When Leela eventually died, she was reborn as a girl named Emily. (Audio: The Child)
The Seventh Doctor visited Ace when she was a baby to apologize for many of the manipulations he would one day put her through (and that he would continue to put her through) because he thought it was easier talking to a baby than a teenager. He stole a baby picture of Ace and replaced it with a playing card while he was there. (Short story: Ace of Hearts)
Oliver Harper joined the First Doctor and Steven on the TARDIS because he was running from the police, who were chasing him because he had been outed as homosexual. (Audio: The Perpetual Bond)
Martha Jones met the Thirteenth Doctor while she and the Tenth Doctor were stranded in the 1960s after being attacked by the Weeping Angels. (Comic: A Little Help from My Friends)
The Fifth Doctor can go between referring to the TARDIS as "old girl" and as "flying deathtrap" incredibly quickly. (Audio: Zaltys)
Dodo Chaplet's funeral was attended by only two people: James Stevens and the Doctor. Her entire life after leaving the TARDIS was a shitshow and became dark enough that I will not elaborate here. Feel free to do some digging, but it is not for the faint of heart. (Novel: Who Killed Kennedy)
However, there are other accounts of Dodo's post-TARDIS days that do not end as terribly for her!!!! :D
The Doctor's frequent trips in a damaged TARDIS during the 1970s and 80s disrupted Earth's timeline to such a great extent that the two decades folded in on each other, making 20 years worth of events happen in 10. This is how the UNIT Dating Controversy was addressed. (Short story: The Enfolded Time)
The Brigadier once bullied the Third Doctor into getting his metabolism checked over because he didn't believe the Doctor would be safe in Bessie or the Whomobile. While this was all happening, Sarah Jane helped foil a Dalek plot. (Audio: Glorious Goodwood)
Adric does not speak English. He hears Alzarian through the TARDIS translation circuits. (Audio: Zaltys)
Ace has a younger brother named Liam but didn't remember he existed for a long while because their father took him when their parents separated. (Audio: The Rapture)
While on a school trip to the Natural History Museum, Ryan and Yaz helped the Second Doctor fight Myriapods, which are insect like in nature. (Short story: The Myriapod Mutiny)
For a while, the Tenth Doctor traveled with Heather McCrimmon, descendant of Jamie McCrimmon. (Comic: The Chromosomal Connection, et al...she's in a lot of comics)
Rory Williams became Caesar of Rome as an Auton after the death of the Empress Augusta. (Audio: The Unwilling Assassin)

I’ve seen a lot of discussion about the Mel/Rani tension, the Thasmin crumbs (Doctor/Yaz), the Rogue/Doctor drama, and—of course—people spiraling over that ending with the Doctor and Rose.
All completely valid. Queer chaos, romance angst, the whole buffet.
But you know what I haven’t seen nearly enough of?
People talking about the fact that Conrad straight-up called the Rani “Mistress,” and she hit him with “I could tilt you on your side and serve olives in those dimples.”
