One-Time OC Ask Event Official Announcement

Hello, everyone!

I am pleased to announce that I have come with yet another event. :) this one is open to all and every writer. You do not have to follow my blog.

But before I get into the meat of explaining the event, I wish to give a shoutout to @the-writers-bookshelf, who runs a fabulous ask event EVERY OTHER Friday! This week is one such week. :) Fab Friday is a marvelous event where she accepts asks to let you gush about what you've been working on as a writer.

I have personally submitted for this event many times. One of my favorite parts of any week is when it's Fab Friday and getting her excited responses. She is so heartfelt and enthusiastic and will make you feel wonderful about your writing, so if you need a place to gush and feel appreciated, or if you just want to tell someone about a project you're working on, consider submitted for Fab Friday tomorrow, 9/2/22, and every other week thereafter.

Alright, so now to my one-time event!

This is inspired by my current really big project I've been working on. It has a huuuuge cast (20+ MCs, plus whatever minor characters there end up being).

So, the event is this: you reblog this post with a list of all of your characters and I pick a favorite name and ask that character directly, as though I'm interviewing them, a question. Heck, I might even do whole interviews, who knows?

Then you'll respond as though you are whatever character I said. It helps not only to get to know your characters, but your writing style and their voices. :)

In order to participate you have to post a list of your characters in a reblog of this post. You also have to have asks turned on.

If you don't know how to turn on asks, go to your settings for your specific blog you want to reblog this post to and go down toward the bottom. It'll ask if you want to accept asks and you need to make sure it's ticked to the right. :)

If you're on mobile, the option is in the little gear at the top right of your profile, scroll to the bottom and tick "let people ask questions" to the right.

I will only be accepting submissions/entries for this event the rest of tonight and all of tomorrow. Once Saturday (9/3) hits in my timezone, I'll stop accepting asks. I live in Pacific Time in America. :)

Introducing: Merity Anandar

“I���ve been very fortunate Leukys has so far blessed me with Fendley’s love, but she has not shown me what else I am meant for in life yet. I can only hope she will consider me faithful enough to do so soon.”

A classic ingenue, Merity is a young woman whose most pressing concern is her home and family. Under her sweetness, she must manage her own self-doubt and fragile health, but she remains an unwavering idealist for the future of her and her loved ones even as circumstances in Albision grow ever more dire.

A/N: Took a bit of a gap from character intros but I’m back with my bb! Merity is becoming one of my favorite characters in BHE. Sure, it’s the angsty and conflicted protagonists who drive the plot, but there’s something about writing a cinnamon roll is just so soothing for the soul.

Hi! Happy Blorbo Blursday!

What is the one thing that one of your secondary characters would never do for your protagonist? What's the worst way they could realize this?

Merity does not have it in her to kill anyone. She's the type of person who will put spiders in a cup and put it on a bush outside somewhere. She would be willing to take up defensive arms, but only with a long-distance weapon and she'd never be caught in a melee fight. So I guess the worst way she could realize this is if the ranks were closing in and she was the last woman standing. It's very likely she'd either let herself be taken or give up the position in order to not kill.

Introducing: Alisud Durecane

“What makes you think they will abide by this treaty? These countries have done nothing but harass and prey on our land and people for hundreds of years, since the discovery of mirellette. You think they will suddenly have a change of heart because we ask them to? We can’t trust them.”

Alisud Durecane may be Laesia’s younger brother and a Pricene Durecane himself, but his first and foremost concern is to the men and women who serve with him. A Captain in the elite Prince’s Corps of the Velitovan Army, he is a young man who has been on the front lines of a war for years but still is fighting the good fight as a loyal Velitovan soldier who hopes for his country’s freedom.

A/N: Alisud was a relatively late addition to the story. I always knew Laesia would have a sibling. First she had a younger sister, than a younger sister and a younger brother, and then I cut the sister and ended up with just Alisud. He’s a difficult character, probably my second hardest besides Sephris, but I enjoy writing his scenes with Laesia. They’re cut from the same cloth and have a close relationship, so the rapport they have is fun to develop.

Introducing: Fendley Wiel

“If she ever felt suffocated because of me, by Leukys, I hope I can earn forgiveness for it.”

Fendley Wiel is the brooding brother of Sephris who has carved a path for himself in the Prince’s Corps, where he serves alongside Alisud Durecane. Though Fendley excels in his job as a fighter, feelings of guilt and regret have made him a surprisingly fragile man prone to self-doubt and volatility. Yet his devotion to the Velitovan cause is only surpassed by that for Merity Anandar, and his moodiness and anxiety over being separated from her masks his ultimately good heart.

A/N: Last of the character intros I have planned for BHE, but certainly not least, Fendley is here. I’ve talked about him so much already just in passing; I definitely love this character a lot. What can I say, I love angsty characters, but most of the time I just think of Fendley as being a guy who needs a big hug and therapy. I think he has the potential to be misunderstood so I have to be very careful with his words and actions a lot of the time.

Introducing: Lord Calbor Stesara

“Hasty, hasty...You do not want to bite the hand that feeds you.“

A veteran of the Inistran War who is rumored to have committed war crimes, Lord Stesara now serves as a key advisor to Ordonian King Redeck and is his Chief Ambassador to Velitova. These days, Lord Stesara has traded his sword for diplomacy, or what he thinks diplomacy is. He retains a keen mind for both combat and politics, in addition to maintaining a deceptively smooth bearing.

A/N: And here we have our main antagonist. Honestly, I haven’t touched a lot of his scenes because they’re #big moments in the narrative that I’m avoiding and I don’t want to deal with them yet. He’s also just one of the smartest characters in the story and I don’t think I’m smart enough to write him 😬

Introducing: Joss Hailen

“It's a useful skill to have, knowing how to take care of people."

If Merity represents light, innocent femininity and Laesia the dark, brooding femininity, Joss sits in between them as the most mature and oldest of this trio of women. She occupies the pivotal and respected role of Albision’s town healer, an occupation that positions to her speak her mind to anyone without fear.

A/N: I'm finally back with the intros! Joss was a relatively late addition to the story but now I can’t imagine it without her. It would be important for Laesia to have someone to relate to who was more worldly than both Sephris and Merity, her two main peers. Coming from royalty, there wouldn’t have been many people Laesia considered superior to herself, and I wanted Joss to challenge that notion.
