Arthur: I know it will be difficult to accept, but *begins to give a speech about empathy and humanity*

Merlin turning into a demon behind Arthur to keep the counselors silent while the king speaks.

Merlin's stare - "Just agree with him."

Arthur: Understood? *hopeful*

Counselors *trembling*: Y-Yes, sir...

Merlin growls 👹

Counselors: YES MY LORD!

Arthur *radiant smile*: Great!

One stupid headcannon I have for the reason that Arthur forgot Merlin during the Dolma thing is that Arthur just subconsciously registers Merlin presence.

He knows what it feels like to have Merlin in front of him and that what it felt like so obviously Merlin isn’t missing. It takes him a bit to register that Merlin isn’t really there becuase his body knows that he actually is.

I'd like to take inspiration from a concept @theroundbartable wrote about Arthur being able to dress himself and loves cleaning etc.

So Arthur is able to dress himself contrary to how much faith Merlin may of his ability to do so. He prefered dressing himself as he just never felt comfortable having the servants doing it, they always put the clothes on wrong. A scratchy shirt here, a layering of clothes that led to bunching and pinching in places Arthur didn't like, trousers that were great for training in but terrible if you had to sit in meetings for several hours.

Meaning Arthur typically dressed himself. At least until Merlin came around, because Merlin just had this way with dressing Arthur that made him crave for something he never realised he was missing. Merlin dressed Arthur with a caring touch akin to a mother's. By that I mean Merlin would always adjust Arthur's clothes, not just to look good but that always was comfortable for Arthur something other servants neglected in favour of the clothes always looking their best.

The soft brushes of Merlin's hands soothed Arthur and he came to crave something that made him think "This must be what it's like to have a mother."

So Arthur doesn't tell Merlin that he can dress himself just fine, because Arthur longs for those touches by Merlin that seem to weave love, protection, care, pride and so on. To fully make Merlin believe that Arthur requires his aid in dressing all the time, Arthur has intentionally messed up getting dressed when Merlin has been late so that though Merlin may joke about it, Merlin will always dress Arthur.

This means that Arthur isn't inept at dressing but when Merlin sneaks out for missions, Arthur is really just craving Merlin's touch to feel ready to face his duties as Prince/King. Also any other servant causes sensory issues with the clothes they pick because they bunch in the wrong places, or are always scratchy etc.

Additionally I can imagine Arthur, King of *I-can't-express-my-emotions-well* having quite the difficult time in trying to explain to Merlin the day Merlin realises Arthur can dress himself without issue

BBC Merlin trending is always amazing, because almost any other show trending means that something happened, news about a new season, a spin off, a cast reunion, or something happened with some actor/actress, usually a scandal

Not Merlin, every time it's trending I can go and find zero explanation, just random post

see the thing is when you say arthur and merlin are kinda gay, you're right, they kinda are. and i do partially ship merthur

but when you say "there is no other explanation for this" you're wrong. there are so many explanations for this. maybe it's platonic or alterous or queerplatonic or some other unnamed unlabelled dynamic. but merlin's character can quite as easily be arospec and ace. heck even arthur with his bi vibes doesn't seem to be much of a romance or sex guy. there are other explanations for who they are, and it's important to actively give space to that

Arthur: And you’re a damn ancient god with dragon blood, son of a human woman, half-dragon man, and the literal Goddess of Magic! You really think your lineage is produced normally?

Arthur: “Oh my God” (mocking)

Merlin: OH MY GOD! (celebrates, picks Arthur up and spins him around) I’M GOING TO BE A DAD!

Arthur: Yes, silly, that’s what I just told you. (laughs)

Merlin: You’re going to be the most beautiful creature of all for nine months, my king. 😍

Arthur: Only for nine months. (teasing)

Merlin: Yes, unfortunately your title of most beautiful creature will be passed on when our baby is born.

Title: I think Merlin could have confided in Morgana about his magic (at least in season one), if it hadn’t been for the great dragon trying to speed up destiny and warning him about her unnecessarily

My thoughts: It’s implied that ‘season one’ Morgana wouldn’t have betrayed Merlin’s secret. So if the great dragon hadn’t foreseen the path of her turning evil and warned him prematurely. It might not have even happened.

• Morgana is instinctively drawn towards sorcerers, possibly because of her own magical abilities, feeling a kinship that she may not understand. She has no problem with taking those who practise magic into her care.

- As troubled as Morgana is, she is also kind, passionate and intensely loyal; she wouldn't betray Merlin.

- The great dragon already tried to manipulate Merlin into thinking it was Uther’s time to die in ”A Remedy to Cure All Ills” and it wasn’t. Arthur wasn’t destined to be on the throne yet.

The dragon lied to him, because it wanted to move destiny forward and be freed.

What’s to say the great dragon didn’t turn season one Morgana into a future enemy, by seeing one possible future and that him warning Merlin about her caused them to create a potential rift?
