Smith aka L O Kari is an Uptown Chicago Dj, Activist, Visual and Performing Artist from St Louis Missouri. Born in 87 L O Kari was heavily influenced by the soulful sounds of RnB, Jazz, Hip Hop, Gospel, and alternative rock. While attending Central Visual and Performing Arts High School in St. Louis Missouri Elgin discovered he had an ear for music and begun creating music on Piano and guitar while added a unique flavor. Now known as L O Kari, Elgin has performed in and out of state ranging from New York, St. Louis, Ohio, Seattle, South Korea, Japan, and all over the Chicago land area. Has shared stages with the likes of Bone Thugs and Harmony, Ruby Ibarra, The Terra Godz, Saba, Da Brat, Clark Airlines, Mega Ran, Bop Alloy, No Name Gypsy, DJ Esco, Young Chop, Lil Crazed, Rebel Diaz, Twista, Chingy just to name a few.  L O Kari style is very smooth and transformative. Blending mixes of Hip-hop, RnB, to Electronic, Trap, and EDM. Some of his influences include Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Nujabes, Linkin Park, Joe Hisaishi, LORN, and Prince. What most notable about his style his ability to adapt to the vibe of the audience he's serving. 🌍 So, last night YouTube Music honored Self Made artists in Atlanta, GA. I played my first solo show with Chicago native, the lovely baby girl @iam__annmarie. I’m so proud of Anne as an artist. Man over here working and my heart strings keep getting pulled to my beloved @richcentralhs. So sad to say that last night was @richcentralhoops last ever home game. The house that the @nba’s @officialkendallgill called home! The school that MANY great educators, doctors, lawyers, entrepreneurs like @riconance of @litehousegrill, business owners, musicians, athletes like @nfl’s #kerwinwaldroup, political leaders like #Illinois State Senator #toihutchinson, artists and musicians like @lthutton @wgci’s @tonekapone33, @mikkeyhalsted @drewsidora and #poets like myself called home will be no more. Next year would mark the 60th anniversary of Rich Central High School but instead it is being converted, along with Rich South, into one school with 2 campuses. And the name #RichCentral is being changed to Rich North. I feel like a big brick of my foundation has just been snatched away. The school colors, the logos, the historic pictures on the wall will all be gone. This one hurts. I’m so PROUD to call Rich Central home. That school saved me, gave me purpose, gave me poetry, life long friendships, the Little Theatre where I did my first shows, and all of sudden the legacy will be no more. I can’t help but think of how many opportunities will be lost. Instead of 3 teams, with Rich East included, which is being completed closed, now there will only be spots on one team. It’s beyond sad. Many found their identities on those fields and courts in spite of if they ever had a chance to play in a game. The experience of teamwork was so much more valuable. I’m hurt but #RC I’m grateful for what you have given the #SouthSuburbs of #Chicago and all the lives you touched and changed for the better. And I’m thankful to Coach @crozzboyzdad for having me announce the last Senior starting lineup of the Rich Central Olympians!! Really meant a lot! S/O to @ballsohard2g for letting me hold down the mic for a few and to @raseann for just being selected to @stephencurry30 @underrated team!! S/O to @todd_whitaker51 for going from Alumni to Principal! That was a super proud moment for us all!!
