heyy i love your artstyle and i was wondering how you got started and if you have any tips for a possible new artist?

hi there! i'm super flattered - thank you so much!! i had to sit on this ask for a little bit to think about it, but i think i finally have an answer, maybe!!(?)

i've been drawing since before i can remember - i was a huuuge huge fan of warrior cats, and that kind of sent me down a rabbit hole watching animated cat & general 2010's furry videos. banithekitty and spottedfire25 were really inspirational to me at the time, and so was the pokemon manga (pokespe & magical pokemon journey specifically)! i just loved their art so much that i sat for hours replicating it in my sketchbooks, then in ms paint, then medibang... and before i knew it, i got here.

as for tips: my process is a bit of a mess (on account of the aphantasia), so the particular way i draw might not be helpful, but! one thing i think would have really helped me to hear starting out is that you don't need to have a consistent style. you should draw from anything and everything that inspires you, whether it's abstract art pieces, nature photography, or a furry artist on tumblr. (especially if it's a furry artist on tumblr.) study the things you like and ask yourself why. is it the way the colors blend, the light hitting the subject, the shapes you can see? then, try your best to replicate it in your own art.

even if it's messy, ugly, or not quite what you actually like about it, you still took what you saw and tried to make something out of it. as an artist, you'll take that with you forever. i hope this helps you - best of luck, i'll be cheering you on!

exactly!!! riley has been my One Exception since i was 8-9 and playing platinum for the first time… although, i actually only rediscovered my love for him while playing a pokemon challenge run with some friends in 2022!

it's honestly only gotten worse since, which is surprising given that i sped through several gyms + story beats just so i could spend our 3hr+ calls standing in iron island next to him. here's some old art from when it happened:

i've been a little busy with the new year, but this idea was so cute i had to doodle it! i like to think the sashiko is a bit clumsy because she was practicing on herself <3
