So, exactly three years ago, on Valentine’s Day 2018, this blog was born. Time sure passes fast, doesn’t it? Keeping the Valentine theme, here is Julia, the ribbon girl from Sinnoh games, waiting patiently for her loved one in her house in Sunyshore. Who knows... maybe we will see her again soon?

MY SON!!!!2-4 songs that are probably on their iPodgraceless - the nationalsatellite mind - metriclet the river in - radical facethe good that won’t come out - rilo kileyi can see orion listening to a lot of indie music tbh!the one place they sometimes end up falling asleep — where they’re not supposed tohe tries not to sleep in public and barely ever does, but he dozes off in skyhold’s garden a lot… not rly to the point of falling asleep per se, but, u know. he nods off. he feels very peaceful there ;;the game they’d destroy everyone else atorion is a demon at wicked grace. the only person who stands a chance against him is josephine. the two antivans…… it’s scary to watch them play against each other tbhthe emoticon they’d use most often>:(what they act like when they haven’t had enough sleephe gets extremely pissed off, but in a different way from usual. like, he tends to be kind of “HHhhhhh NO STOP WHY WOULD YOU SAY THAT” under normal circumstances, but when he’s sleep-deprived he just gets flat-out mean, like. “shut up. stop breathing. i’ll kill you,” that kind of thing. he becomes totally grumpy. and he also gets super clingy with dorian??? he just gets weird when he’s exhausted. but he can go for a very long period of time without sleep, so i guess that’s why.  their preferred hot beverage on really cold nights. or mornings. or whenever.he likes teas a lot; he grows his own tea leaves. how they like to comfort/care for themselves when they’re in a slumpgardening is the #1 thing, he finds a lot of comfort in caring for something that wouldn’t be there without him (re: the…plants… idk that might sound strange but he’s an assassin and he’s used to being surrounded by death so. when he? cares for flowers and plants he just. feels like he’s actually giving life to something, and that comforts him immensely). he also loves woodworking (what’s with my dragon age ocs. they all love carving wood. fuck), but he likes detailed work rather than like… making furniture or doing big projects. and he tends to give away his projects as gifts, lmao. otherwise, he enjoys walking around alone when he’s overwhelmed, especially if he’s in a forest or something. it’s comforting. what they wanted to be when they grew uphe always wanted to be an assassin :’) his mother’s influence, lmao. when he was younger he really thought of assassins as “people killin the bad guys!” but as he grew older that turned out to… not really be the case, not 100%. still, he’s proud of where he is.their favorite kind of weatherHE LOVES THE SUN. he manages heat really well; he’s literally ~hot-blooded~thoughts on their singing voice he hates singing and would never do it in public BUT he has a nice singing voice. if you compliment it he’d think u were lying though.how/what they like to draw or doodlehe’s good at drawing but he doesn’t really draw other people much. he likes sketching out crafting projects (like - weapons, armour, etc) and he doodles sceneries and flowers and stuff. he actually loves to design clothes and outfits too but he gets REALLY shy about that stuff (he loves orlesian and antivan fashion and i think he might enjoy tevinter fashion thru dorian’s influence BUT HE GETS LEGIT OFFENDED BY FERELDEN STUFF u have been warned).

The receptionist in the gate to Amity Square, as shown in the Diamond/Pearl Quiz Book (scanned by Pokescans of course - we miss you, Pacific!). Amity Square is one of those nice places in Sinnoh that I'm definitely looking forward to see in a potential remake. A somewhat "useless", yet comfy and relaxing location with an unique atmosphere that no other place in the Pokemon world has.

Here’s something nice that happened in yesterday’s new “Pokemon Journeys” episode. In one of the first scenes of the episode, we see two people exchanging their Pokemon in the Vermillion City Pokemon Center. A Gentleman trades his Farfetch’d (nicknamed Oshou) for a little girl’s Spearow (nicknamed Onichan). Avid Pokemon players have likely recognized the scene as a reference to the memorable Spearow-for-Farfetch’d in-game trade that happens in Vermillion City in the original Gen I games. But there’s apparently more to this...

Oshou is the Japanese name of Dux, the original in-game trade Pokemon from Pokemon Red and Blue that a little girl (named Elyssa in FRLG) trades for the player’s Spearow. Dux reappears in LGPE in the very same house in Vermillion, but this time it’s not traded. His owner, this time a Gentleman, expresses his will to catch a Spearow. You may ask why they changed Dux’s owner from a little girl to a Gentleman. Possible answer is that it’s a reference to the Pokemon Trader TCG card from Gen I times.

Onichan, in turn, is the Japanese name of Speary, the Spearow owned by a little girl and her father in a house in Viridian City. The house serves mainly as a demonstration of the Pokemon nicknaming mechanism and appears in all core games that feature Kanto. In Johto-based games, Speary is joined by a Rattata nicknamed Rattey.

So yeah, we have a reference to two in-game Pokemon and the NPCs who own them (ironically, none of these two are the original in-game trader from Gen I). If you ever wished for these NPCs to appear in the anime, your wish has just been granted.

Now let's hope that the English dub doesn't screw this up and catches the Pokemon nicknames as Dux and Speary. Otherwise, this entire scene loses its sense. Also, I hope that the anime keeps adding such cute and easy-to-miss game references. They’re incredibly nice to spot.

Fishing Guru, as seen in the “Pocket Monsters” manga by Kosaku Anakubo. While not explicitly named so, this character is doubtlessly intended to represent that game NPC. He appears in Vermillion, where he runs a Pokemon fishing facility. There he borrows Red and co. a fishing rod (in this manga, he does it for money). He also wears a similar hat to his overworld sprite... It may be strange but back in Kanto days, PM was a pretty faithful game adaptation (despite all the comic relief and oddities like “mutated” Pokemon [to the point of unrecognizability] drawn solely based on sprites, which doesn’t really happen from Volume 2 on). It featured Red visiting game locations, meeting game characters, beating the League... Since Hoenn, however, game elements and characters became rarer and the manga just went pure comic relief, with little connection to anything. I guess that’s the point when Anakubo stopped paying attention to the games.

The woodcutters of Azalea Town’s Charcoal Kiln. You chase their Farfetch’d in the Ilex Forest in order to get the Cut HM! The anime expanded their personalities by giving them names - Sylvester (the junior) and Yosaku (the master). However, the 4Kids dub kind of spoiled the game reference by calling them father and son, something that was never true neither in the games, nor in the Japanese version of the anime. Despite that, they undoubtedly represent the unnamed NPCs from the game.
