He came to me in a dream.

Media: Danganronpa Despair Time

Characters: Min Jeung, David Chiem

Warnings: None

Headcanons: Min and David as literature and sociology majors, respectively. Min living with Teruko [criminology] and J [mechanical engineering], David living with Xander [social work] and Arturo [medicine].

It's not often that Min gets a full night of sleep. Despite her roommates always telling her to wind down and take a break, the poor girl can never seem to find rest.

"Min, come on, it's two in the morning... that paper you have isn't due for two days."

Teruko sighs, trying to persuade Min from overworking herself. She's working on an analysis paper for the main character of River Mist by Doppo Kunikida. In her mind, the sooner she gets this done, the sooner she can prepare to present it. Unfortunately, her roommates disagree.

"I have to get this done." she insists.

"Ugh, give it up. Clearly, it's like talking to a wall."

J groans, also frustrated by Min's stubborn insistence to get the paper done. Having had enough, Teruko lifts Min up from her desk and places her in bed, to the behest of the girl herself. Min gets sleepy as soon as she's in bed.

"What the..."

"See? We told you to go rest."

J is dumbfounded by how easy that was to pull off. Min tries to fight the sleepiness but ultimately succumbs to the drowsiness.

Meanwhile, in an apartment, a few floors down...

"Good God- you both suck!" whines a bluenette as he leans back in his seat. One roommate has to practice first aid to learn a new skill. The other roommate is helping him learn.

"Well, maybe if you didn't go two full nights without sleep to finish a paper you were supposed to finish a week ago, this wouldn't be happening." snaps Arturo, hands on his hips. Xander is next to Arturo, both hands pressed on the chest of a dummy used for first aid training. Xander wanted to learn first aid in case it was ever necessary in the future.

"David, maybe you should rest... the caffeine isn't doing much good for you-"

"I'll sleep when I'm dead."

Xander is immediately shut down by David. Arturo shrugs and keeps instructing Xander. Eventually, David nods off and falls asleep at his desk.

...

When Min opens her eyes, she finds herself in a vast, lush, and vibrant meadow, with a river flowing nearby. She finds herself dressed in a white summer dress with a flower crown of lotuses on her head. She walks closer to the river, seeing the water flowing quickly and effortlessly. On the other side, however... is a desolate wasteland. The one defining thing about the horizon of dry dirt and clay is a single train track leading to nowhere. Min sits down by the river. Out of boredom, she starts to make a flower crown from Easter lillies.

David finds himself in a train filled with a faceless crowd. They're all dressed in black, almost like they're attending a funeral. The ladies are all wearing vales to cover their faces, faning themselves with thin, black fans, or staring down at the floor. All the gentlemen are reading newspapers, slouching their hats, or staring at the floor. David himself is dressed in a black suit as he looks out the window, his appearance much cleaner than usual. The stop is approaching. As it comes to a halt, he exits the train alone. The other passengers seem to be headed further... tragic.

David sees the river. Curiosity getting the better of him, he walks closer. There, he sees someone sitting at the edge in the green grass.

"... Hello?"

"Hm? Oh, hello."

Min responds, noting that someone had greeted her. "Come, have a seat." she offers, gesturing to the spot next to her. David goes to take a step... and stops himself. He hesitates. Does he want to step over there? After all... he could get the river dirty by walking through it. Noticing his hesitancy, Min stands up and takes a step into the water.

"Wait-! Stay over there."

David interrupts her. The girl had only stepped one foot into the river as he did. He continues, "You're barefoot... the ground here will hurt you." he gestures to the dry ground beneath him. Min steps back. What was happening? David was never this considerate of other people... why the sudden change with this girl whose eyes he can't see?

The two sit down at their respective sides. "So... what brings you here? I saw you exit the train just now." Min asks, holding the flower crown on her lap. David looks to the side before looking back at her. "I just... felt the need to get off. What about you? What brings you to this river?"

"I come here often. It's my little safe space."

She answers, looking at him. The brunette tilts her head, looking at the bluenette across the river from her.

"... Why don't you come over here?"

"I don't want to get the river dirty."

"Can I come over there?"

"You'll hurt your feet on the ground..."

Min and David seem to be in a bit of a conundrum. He doesn't want to step over the river, but he also doesn't want her to get hurt. Min thinks of an idea.

"How about you take your shoes off before you walk into the river? That way, we can both be safe."

She suggests. David nods, removing his shoes before stepping into the river with Min. The water feels cool on their feet.

"What's your name?"

"David... you are?"

"Min."

"Nice to meet you, Min."

"Nice to meet you too, David."

The two begin walking up the river towards the source. All the while, they're talking. About their lives, about their careers, similar topics.

"... Do you want this flower crown I made? I think it would look nice on you." Min suddenly asks, offering David the flower crown. David, face slightly heating up, nods and lets her put it on his head.

They eventually reach the source, a waterfall falling from a massive wall. The two look at one another, unsure of what to do next.

"... Can I make an embarrassing request?" he asked, turning to her. Min looks up, tilting her head. "Go ahead." she assures him.

"This view is nice... wanna dance?" he asks, awkwardly shifting. Min's face heats up, surprised by his request. Still, she agrees to a dance.

David places his right hand on Min's waist, his left intertwining with her hand. Min's hand meets David's shoulder. Slowly, they begin to dance together. It's... surprisingly pleasant. There's trips and slips here, but that's natural as neither of them have danced before. Just as they dip...

Min wakes up, realizing that it was just a dream... whatever, classes are about to start.

As she waits for the train in the rain, she sees someone standing there without an umbrella. Strange, he looks... familiar.

"Excuse me, do you need an umbrella?"

She asks offering him space with her.

David, who had only been awake for about half an hour at this point, looks over, his tired eyes fixed on the familiar person in front of him.

"... Yeah, I lost mine. Thanks."

He walks under the umbrella with her. Their walk is silent until they walk inside the building. David, likely still half asleep, looks at Min for a bit before speaking again.

"Can I get your number?"

"... come again?"

"You're cute. Can I get your number?"

Min was caught off guard by this sudden question. Nevertheless, she typed in her phone number on his phone. Weird...
