Note: this little wip has been almost for a month in my keep notes. It came from the original idea I had for my Vxlentine's oneshot, and that oneshot became a bigger AU idea that I couldn't end in time for the event day. I don't know If it'll se the light someday so... here it is:

Hey there, how’s it going? Here are the latest Devil May Cry news updates I’ve gathered:

1. Hideaki Itsuno and Hideki Kamiya had a panel together, talking about their job roles in gaming.

2. New Dante acrylic stand from Capcom.

3. DMC4 Producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi admits to what gaming companies’ goals are nowadays.

4. Reuben Langdon talks Devil May Cry once again in an interview. b) Speaking of Reuben, he’s still waiting for that call to be back in Devil May Cry. c) Turns out he finally got that role for that PGR X DMC mobile game, along with Dan Southworth returning as Vergil.

5. Johnny Bosch also talks Devil May Cry in a new interview.

6. Presslee’s fan game’s planned on being released soon.

7. My Thoughts On These Updates:

1. It’s nice to see the 2 Devil May Cry directors coming together to talk about their roles and goals. Would be awesome if they can collab but knowing them both and from what they’ve stated there, it’s best if they direct separately.

2. Nice that Capcom’s still coming out with Devil May Cry merch.

3. It’s too bad what the gaming industry’s become nowadays...There are still great games being made out there, but the marketing and developing aspect of it’s really gone downhill. At the same time, that title for that article there was kinda click-baity ‘cause it talked more about Japan’s stance on localization changes more than what the title and what I stated earlier.

4. That was a very nice interview, and is awesome that Reuben finally got a Dante role again, along with Dan Southworth as Vergil. So that thing Dan was talking about last year at that Power Rangers panel was either about the PGR game, or his role in Ninja Gaiden 4. Kinda funny how Reuben mixed up DMCV for DMC6 there in the interview as well, heheh.

Aside from that, though...I apologize that I’m bringing something bad up here, but I need to let this out...It’s regarding the questionable activities Reuben’s been displaying on social media as of late…I know the guy’s had controversies before, but I feel like most of these controversies have been misunderstandings due to the character limitations on Twitter/X that can make one explain things poorly, and how people’s mindsets and emotions get messed up when it comes to political stuff. Just what he’s been displaying lately has me concerned and taken aback, though...I would give my full opinion about the matter, but I don’t want to overstate things here. So if you have any questions about this, you can either leave a comment or DM.

5. Also a nice interview with Johnny Bosch there. Looking forward to his future Devil May Cry stuff (and Trigun)

6. Was wondering what was going on with PressLee’s project there...Curious on how it’s gonna turn out.

7. Hoo-boy…Where to start when it comes to the Netflix stuff? Well, I’ve given my review already on here about my thoughts on it. Despite me liking it, it definitely had some rough edges that needs smoothing out.

- It was an honour being part of a couple parody vids. It’s not very often that I do voice stuff anymore due to lack of privacy and such. One of my dream jobs is to get into voice acting, but is tough when you lack privacy and live out in an area too far away from an actual recording studio.

- V-Tuber Dante’s a neat idea, but...IMO kinda weird and cringe too...Sorry…

- Some of the topics given about what’s stated here in these news updates I don’t really wanna give my feedback on ‘cause I can’t come up with things to say about them other then “funny”, or “nice”, or “cool”...I apologize...

- It’s interesting how we’re already getting Season 2 stuff announced and such. Seems like we’ll be getting it quicker than expected, and kinda explains why it took so long for them to release this series. Hoping for the best out of this next season.

And then the dumbfuck in question comes out and says “I thought the series was dead and I wanted to bring it back my way and I’m super unhappy that Capcom made Devil May Cry 5 and it was really successful because it takes away from meeeeee and myyyyyy visionnnnn :(:(:(:(.” There’s no cleaning that one up.

believable, maybe cute or tragic (depending if he liked her), but too normal.

"Vergil gave birth to nero."

thematically sound, but still kind of weird/funny. you might understand this if you have read ulysses by james joyce.

"Vergil wished for ultimate power and got his wish because the power of a parent disciplining their child is unmatched."

very hilarious to imagine nero spawning in from thin air. Vergil got scammed (?) by whoever granted his wish, now he has to become a responsible parent to fully harness the power he wished for.

if it's Nakanishi's first time writing Leon, do you think he'll keep him somewhat consistent towards his OG version or the remake ooor he'll just write his own version of the character? i am also so dead interested to know as why the game took so long to develop and why it got rebooted

maybe dev 1 team waa working on it at some point too?

they're both division 1. in fact, division 1 has four (major) teams.

hirabayashi's team

nakanishi's team

(formerly) itsuno's team

and a misc team "officially" headed by takeuchi who he staffs with whoever happens to be available at the time

on paper, division 1 is meant to be dedicated to resident evil, mega man, and devil may cry. but uh. in practice, mega man has been dead on the moon for about 10 years, and the corpse of DMC may be right beside it now that itsuno's gone.

we know that hirabyashi's team is working on CVXR. we know that nakanishi's team is working on RE9. we know that the "misc" team is currently being headed by kamiya (which is funny because he hasn't actually been a capcom employee for like 20 years), and they're working on the okami remake (and prior to okami, this was the RE8 team). but i don't know what the (former?) devil may cry team is up to. they may have even been split up into several smaller teams, and we just don't know that yet because no games have been announced yet.

but all of these teams share devs. they all share assets and resources. in fact, a significant number of nakanishi's RE7 team jumped from the RE7 team to the devil may cry team for DMC5, then jumped back onto nakanishi's team for RE9.

but both DG and andy have talked about this, at least a little bit. here's what we know:

RE9 wasn't meant to be RE9. it was meant to be RE8, and what ultimately released as RE8 was meant to be a spin-off.

capcom felt lost after RE7's sales plateaued for about two years following launch. RE6 was so disastrous that they tried something completely new, but RE7 also seemed to be failing.

capcom wanted to make a leon and jill game at first, but they weren't sure how to go about doing it. multiple campaigns were considered, co-op was considered, a split campaign like RE8 was considered.

co-op was finally decided on and began development as a direct response to RE7 tanking so hard at launch.

co-op was scrapped when RE7's sales finally picked up and then skyrocketed once the stigma of RE6 finally washed away and word got out that 7 was actually good.

capcom floundered for a bit after that and apparently really went back and forth as to whether or not to cut jill -- but she was ultimately cut.

capcom saw the success of RE2make as incredible encouragement for what RE9 should be.

i'm sure this isn't the whole story. i'm sure that RE9 actually had several different builds that it started and scrapped between 2017 and 2021, when the current build of RE9 was finally decided on. but this is what we know right now.

DG has also said that RE9's characterization of leon is going to pull from the remakes rather than OG.

and, considering what else we know about RE9's development, that makes sense. it sounds like RE9 is being built based on the successes that RE has had in the era of the RE engine.

which is, you know. good news and bad news.

good news for fans who wanted RE to go back to a more horror focus, because both RE7 and RE2make went hard on horror.

bad news for jill fans, since RE3make was not one of the RE engine's successes.

good news for the devs, because they're able to build RE9 from a positive start point as opposed to a negative one (i.e., let's improve things we did really well vs let's just try not to fuck this up again)

bad news for aeon fans, because remake leon has no patience for ada, remake ada is a lot colder and more callous, and aeon as a ship is fucking dead.

so we'll see what happens idk
