Can we all just think about what this day has been for Adrien?

Imagine you wake up for the day, excited to have your bi-yearly scheduled lunch with your father, only to be told he has canceled on you once again and when you finally get the courage to speak your mind and talk to him, he interrupts you and tells you that you will be moving away from your home and beloved friends (with a person you hate) for an indefinite period of time. Imagine then, that you head to school, where you share a tender moment with someone who is definitely not just a friend and they give you the advice to talk to your father.

You then get home from school, where you are ambushed by your manipulative cousin, who is offering to trade places with you and help you out with your problem, only to discover he is scheming again. Before you can do anything about that, you have to go save the world with your superhero partner, who you've been feeling a little neglected by lately and for some reason, all those negative feelings seem to be manifesting right now during the fight. She then call in some reinforcements, and this new guy, that she keeps fawning over is giving you bad vibes (it's definitely not just jealously guys).

You save the day and head home, this time with the intent of actually confronting your father, only to be stopped by your superhero partner, who for some reason is looking for your civilian counterpart. She claims that she handed you a miraculous and you very quickly realize that your scheming and manipulative cousin, was scheming and manipulative.

You watch as your partner has a panic attack and do your best to calm her down and help her retain some miraculous. You hear her muffled cries through the door and when you go to check on her, she's gone. You find out that the villain you fight has got a hold of the miraculous and you go to find your partner.

You find her and manager to comfort her, all the while sharing a not-at-all platonic moment with her, and you prepare to fight the villain who has re-monikered himself and given himself new powers.

You see the rabbit miraculous and what looks like a future version of yourself show up and you realize that you will have to go through time in a time battle to reclaim the rabbit miraculous. You are given a rabbit miraculous to use and your very concept of space and time are altered as a result. After a lengthy, convoluted battle, you say goodbye to a good friend and decide to head to London to interrogate your aunt. The interrogation leading nowhere, you decide to head home only to be immediately called by your partner asking you to head to the wax museum and pose like a statue (which totally brings back some memories for you...). You finally get rid of that piece of paper in your bell and manage to capture the villain who you've been fighting for so long.

Except, the plan fails. The villain manages to get away with all of the Kwamis and now you have a weight on your conscious. You have just used against a person the power you vowed to use only for good. You are reminded of the significant power that you wield.

You once more arrive home and turn on the TV to try and distract yourself. Only to see that there's once more a problem that needs your help. You get there and see two people who have similar powers to you and your partner, but there's something wrong. Your partner asserts that they aren't akumatized, but you are wary. You learn that they are a version of you from a different universe, or at least a version of your power. You once more, are reminded the of ultimate destruction you have at your fingertips.

You come to understand that these doubles are in fact your partner and yourself from another universe. A universe, where the villain you are fighting is now your ally. Once assuring your friends are safe, you go after your double to fight them. When you meet to speak to them person to person and talk through your shared trauma. You learn that he too lost his precious mother, but he has no one to help him through it. You relive that loss together. You talk him down from making the wish that a part of you wants to make every single day. You begin to realize the version of you isn't bad, he's just hurting.

After ensuring the safety of other universes and giving a hopeful send of to your doubles, you finally, finally this time head home for the night.

Surveying around your room, you are reminded of the morning that feels like forever ago. You remember what your cousin said, what your good friend said. Emboldened by her words, you decide it's time to face your father. You go to his office where he's working and utter the words you never thought you would: I don't want to be a model anymore

Your father passively assents to this, and finally finally you are free.

You are filled with gratitude and this odd warmth that you don't spend too much time analyzing. You need to do something to thank the person who's advice got you what you so desperately wanted. You decide to call her up and thank her face-to-face.

You call her on the phone, which gets answered by her best friend, and then finally her and you give her your most sincere expression of gratitude, thanking her for everything she has done for you this past year.

As the warmth inside of your chest grows, you tell her you will do your best to pay it. You end the phone call with a smile on your face and a happy sigh.

Finally, with thoughts of your dear friend roaming around your mind, you fall asleep exhausted but happy.

This was all one day.

TODAY ON THE LIST OF THINGS THAT ARE MAKING ME INSANE

"In "Scarlet Lady", Emilie Agreste was woken up with no consequences, no buildup, no emotion, and no meaningful consequences."

Wasn't that the point Zoe was going for? That waking Emilie up was this simple all the time, but Gabriel was too stubborn to ever consider the other option?

Yes, it is just another way of Zoe bashing Gabriel by making him dumber than dirt because she has an unhealthy hatred of the guy. But that's still bad writing. It's bad writing to say the Peacock Miraculous can do anything, it's bad writing to undermine the entire point of the story, it's bad writing to make any character this stupid in a serious story, and it's bad writing to make Nathalie not suggest this earlier.

Compare this to its canon counterpart: Gabriel with the Rabbit Miraculous in "Evolution". Gabriel doesn't just think to use it to save Emilie, instead as a way to steal Ladybug and Cat Noir's Miraculouses. This makes sense for him to get tunnel vision, it's been his one goal for months. And then when Nathalie suggests the alternative solution, but Gabriel decides to go after Ladybug instead because he's so blinded by hatred. The clear difference here is that Gabriel only recently obtained this alternative solution. He had time to grow to hate Ladybug so much that he'd lose sight of his real goal. There is no such reason in SL, he just didn't think of it.

And to be clear, I don't even think "Evolution" is a well written episode. It would have been so much better if they made it clear that Gabriel doesn't want to change the past because he wants to hold on to his power, not just for petty revenge. But even in it's current flawed state, the plot and character decisions in "Evolution" are still miles better than they are in SL.

MLB Season 5 Character Analysis: "Evolution"

Introduction

Hey guys, I'm finally back with the season 5 character analyses. It's been a while. Now that season 5 is over I can finally create an outline of how the individual journeys of the characters went and point out the foreshadowing done for them. If you've never seen these posts before in your life, then here I basically take an episode of Miraculous and do individual analyses for the characters who had some form of development in that episode by looking at their motivations, behaviours and thought processes. After season 4 ended, I started this series to clear up the misunderstandings people have about the characters and show them why they acted the way they did. Man, was this season full of juicy characterization. Evolution is a very appropriate title for the first episode of this season because that's what these characters do, they evolve, for better or worse. So many things to breakdown like Felix, Marinette's trauma, insight into Gabriel's past, etc. This episode alone gives us Gabriel's descent into madness, Nathalie realizing that Gabriel has gone mad and although it wasn't as big of a part of the episode, Ladybug finally being able to give control to Cat Noir instead of doing everything herself. So let's start shall we?

Character POVs

Gabriel/Monarch

"I won't let you destroy my future, Ladybug! I'll be right back my love, I promise."

I've haven't really done much analysis of Gabriel because there wasn't really much to go off on for his character besides the fact that he wants to bring his wife back. But this season gives us a lot more insight into his character. Makes sense this is the last season of his arc. So let's start with this episode.

This episode shows us just how far Gabriel has fallen from the man he once was. Back in season 1, all he wanted was to bring his wife back, but as he kept fighting Ladybug and Cat Noir, he developed a hatred towards and saving Emilie became less of a goal and more of just an excuse to keep being villainous. In his mind, he still believes that he does this to bring his family back to together but in reality, now he just wants to one-up Ladybug and prove to her that she can't fool him anymore. He has been losing to her for so long that it messed him up and now that he has all this power, he became overconfident which of course ended in his downfall, losing the Rabbit Miraculous along with Nathalie's respect and loyalty. This is only just the beginning of his downfall though.

2. Marinette/Ladybug

"It's you and me, remember?"

After having finally understanding that she needs to let go of control at the end of season 4, she was able to accept help from Cat Noir which allowed her to be comfortable to trust him with a Miraculous as powerful as the Rabbit.

Because of this, she and Cat Noir having become stronger together as a team, having resolved their miscommunication issues from last season and learning that they need to communicate which each other.

Being able to give up control to others may have been a reason she let Cat Noir use the Rabbit Miraculous but it isn't the only reason. She's still a little shook from losing all the Miraculous and doesn't trust herself anymore with holding onto them, blaming herself for their loss even though the situation was completely out of her control. We'll see more of this in the next episode.

3. Nathalie

"You had the Time Miraculous. You could've chosen to save Emilie! You could've chosen to save me! (coughs) But instead you chose your obsession with Ladybug and Cat Noir. You're insane, Gabriel!"

Last but not least, we have Nathalie finally breaking ties with Gabriel after seeing how far he has gone from the man he once was.

This whole time, ever since season 1, the only reason Nathalie was helping Gabriel was because she believed that Gabriel was doing this to save Emilie and he admired his dedication towards bringing his family back together. But over the course of the series, she began to see his increasing desperation and madness and when he chose to one-up Ladybug and Cat Noir over achieving his original goal of reviving Emilie, she knew that he wasn't doing this for Emilie anymore, which was the entire reason she helped in the first place and thus, she lost any respect and admiration he ever had for him and as we see in future episodes, attempt to protect Adrien from Gabriel and antagonize him but more on that in her other appearances.

Conclusion

This season was the beginning for a lot of things, Gabriel's descent into madness, a hint of Ladybug recovering from losing all the Miraculous and Nathalie realizing the monster Gabriel has began and trying to oppose his plans.

God, Evolution is such a good way to start Season 05. It's a nice throwback to some episodes of earlier seasons, not to mention watching season 01 Ladybug interact with season 05 Hawkmoth was kinda bomb (as short as it was). We also get some individual miraculous powers and some lore refreshed to us.

Also Ladynoir 🥹🥹🥹. The fond little looks... Ladybug making sure Chat Noir knows she trusts him by giving him the rabbit... The comforting... 100/10 much missed.

So did Snake Noir just insta-retire after Catwalker joined, or did he leave due to budget cuts too?

What was the structure of the council before Catwalker joined? How long has there been a hierarchy?

Also what hijinks were necessary to get Chat Blanc, limitless destruction incarnate, to sit peacefully in a box? What is the box made out of if it can kill "intrusive" thoughts and tame a pseudo-god?

Also if Ephemeral uses his powers in the box will it work quicker?

challenging myself by venturing into the scary category of incomplete, possibly abandoned forever ml fics. i've only been in this fandom under 2 years and i know it isn't even half as prolific as it used to be, especially concerning lovesquare fics, but because i'm so new i missed out on all these brilliant, amazing fics written during the series' prime that no one really talks about because they're unlikely to ever get finished. and that's something i stay away from too, but eh i have a healthy imagination and i feel like i'm missing out on some underrated gems so i'm making an attempt to read some of those works and appreciate them for what they are and the effort that went into them. Experience

I have finally begun watching season 5, one episode per day, at least I’ll try to

Ladybug knew that with Monarch using so many miraculous, he was bound to get drained.

So when he collapsed, Ladybug was not shocked and didn’t waste any time, immediately striking Monarch’s head with her yo-yo, knocking him unconscious. Normally such a blow would not do this but then, the miraculous have been draining Monarch, and he was so tired. His body welcomed the rest.

“Quick! Take the miraculous!” she cried. “Knock him out if he starts to wake.”

They got some of the miraculous when red lights flashed, distracting them.

“Master Fu?” Ladybug gasped.

Chat Noir looked up at the helicopter. “Let’s go sometime when we can’t be interrupted. Burrow!”

As the duo continued to swipe the miraculous back, eventually they came to the butterfly miraculous.

Monarch detransformed to Gabriel Agreste.

Chat Noir gasped. “No! It can’t be.”

Ladybug swiftly stored the miraculous in her possession back inside her yo-yo. She made a face. “I’m afraid it is.”

“This can’t be right,” Chat Noir grasped at whatever straws he could find. “Gabriel Agreste was akumatized into the Collector.”

Ladybug held up the butterfly miraculous. Nooroo looked sadly at his former master. “It’s true. Once he lost the grimoire, he knew he might become a suspect, so he akumatized himself to throw you off the trail.”

“But why?” Chat gasped, devastated.

Nooroo: to bring back his wife

Chat Noir sank to the ground, in shock.

Ladybug gently laid a hand on his shoulder. “Kitty, you okay?” She eyed Gabriel warily, without the miraculous, his recovery time would be longer.

Chat’s fists trembled. He stood up. “Let’s bring Monarch to justice.”

Gabriel Agreste was formally arrested and brought to trial. As was Nathalie who was suspected of being Mayura.

As Nathalie was terminally ill, she had a relatively lighter sentence. She would be in prison but receive medical care at the same time.

Gabriel had it worse. He was sentenced for life and heavily fined.

It was only thanks to a fund Emelie set up that Adrien would be just fine financially. Though he would have to move to London as Amalie became his guardian. It was just as well. Even with Ladybug defending Adrien, and his class standing by him, Paris eyed the model with suspicion.

Ladybug had a bone to pick with Felix but he was missing.

Amalie did her best to console her nephew as Adrien for over his grief by comforting her in turn.

Emelie’s body was finally buried and given rest.
