i have so many more corruption arc thoughts still left in my brain if you care btw

now that elden ring dlc / shadow of the erdtree is days away i want to simply say that i would except something about miquella to disappoint people.

the griffith people wont like it if hes pure because "the signs were always there" / "thats bad storytelling" and so on. If he has depth then maybe they'll shut up but still say shit like "well the bewitching branch-"

and the people who think him betraying malenia would be stupid and ruin her character would be disappointed if he did, people who wanted miquella to betray her (mmmm angst) would be disaapointed because it would have okay buildup and be interesting.

people who think hes pure and nothing else would be disappointed if hes not pure good because "we already have enough morally gray characters"

people who want him to be morally grey would also be disappointed if hes not because "just pure good/evil isnt good writing"

people who want him to be corrupted would be disappointed they didnt do more with him, people who dont would be disappointed if he was because "thats a cheap way to end his arc"

if he appears too much people will be disappointed because theres more things to be explored and miyazaki said there likely wont be any dlc

if he appears too little people will disappointed because he had alot of buildup and not enough screentime/lore

in conclusion i feel like no one is going to like miquella or at least not as much as right now, and even currently not that many people like him. I can smell the "bad writing" reddit posts. basically, be prepared

Prison duo playlist analysis day 7 - Brutus by The Buttress

YES I FINALLY GET TO YELL ABOUT THIS SONG! ME WHEN!

This is mostly gonna be me yelling about the season two prison arc and also probably corruption because wow I’m so normal about that specifically. From Icarus’s perspective mostly is what I’ve thought this through same as most things- though it could be corruption arc Centross too.

Starting off strong with

“I’ve been watching him for my entire life. I hate the air he breathes, his foolish decrees his words so contrived.”

They have known him throughout the first reset that they remember at that point- that being the only thing they remember from their life. They hate him- especially after they remember. They were fine around him before but when they remember their put straight back into the mindset the held during corruption and they hold so so much anger and resentment towards him. They don’t believe a word he says, he broke their trust no matter how little of it was real in the fist place. Why would he tell the truth now? They don’t believe him when he try’s to tell them Rae is sick- because their so sure that Rae would tell them even when they hadn’t fully earned that trust back yet because why would he tell the person who tried to kill everybody here over them?

“And I hate the way the townspeople gather outside. They cling on to every breath, cling to his chest. Home to his heart full of pride.”

Most people of not everyone have met Centross at this point- and most like him. Find him easy to hang out with or are just indifferent to him being there. Rae trusts him more than others, and if Centross said something most would probably believe him especially Rae at this point. Would people believe Icarus? Who’s to say- especially if Jamie and Athena remember. Athena I think trusts Centross more than Icarus with that memory. Easton I don’t know about- I think he would be able to tell if they were lying- but I don’t think he’d trust them so easily.

Mmmm. See if this was s3 “The Oracle told him beware the Ides” would be a great line.

I don’t remember off the top of my head if anyone except Centross himself was worried about visiting Icarus- so I can’t make the best connection here.

They would be wishing for his death- not exactly knowingly but they don’t want his here. They don’t want him to be around to hurt anyone anymore and the easiest way to do that would be for him to die. They don’t immediately want to do it themself- but they would be lying if they didn’t wish something would happen to him for what he’d done to the people they cared about- as well as what he’d done to them as much as they try to make it about everyone else.

THIS ONE. THIS IS WHY I SAY SEASON 2.

They wished they were like him in many ways in season one- he was Enderian’s favorite. Her speaker, her first choice. She talked to him the most. They wish NIW that they got the same level of trust and support from others he is getting, wishing they could walk around and not have to pretend they don’t notice the shifting feet and fearful glances when they talk to someone, pretend they don’t notice when Rae talks to them different after maybe a nightmare or something else that reminded him of them then. They wish it was like Centross- where he walks around freely and can gain the trust back of the other people on the server. What they don’t know is how he worked for it- he built that trust back and they haven’t taken the steps to do that yet.

Even if they hate each other- they probably understand each other the most out of many of the characters on Fable. They’ve had experiences together through corruption and then have probably seen each other at their most vulnerable in both prison arcs- stretching into season 3 where there’s more trust and vulnerability for it to actually be a healthy exchange.

Mmm. Me when. They didn’t want to hurt him at first- they just wanted to make sure he wouldn’t hurt anyone else.

He taught them a lot though season 1- I think. Just in their mental state really- even if it wasn’t a healthy environment they learned a lot about themself and what they were capable of specifically due to his help. He was part of the people who enabled them to do what they did- even if it was a bad thing. That turns into him enabling and helping them heal and do good later in season 2 and in season 3.

“You’re beautifully made” is a line for sure. Mhm.

“I’ll never forget that you showed me to make art. And I know the love you showered me came from a pure and noble heart. I love you, and if you want I’ll call you king. But why do I lay awake at night thinking instead of you it should be me?”

I don’t want to repeat myself- but same things as I said above he taught them a lot, as well as their respect for him vs their returned lingering hatred and resentment toward him wanting to be in the place he had been from season 1.

“something wicked this way comes. And as I’m set to face it, I’m unsure, should I embrace it? Should I run? What motivates me? Hatred? Is it love? What’s more wrong; that I too wish to be great, or my mother wished she’d had a son?”

Tell me that’s not so Icarus coded. Or my mother wished she’d had a son- because- was Icarus ever rally her son? She was their mother, yes, but Icarus was always Creations child. Always in fables shadow, his mini me, his perfect golden child that would do whatever he say. They looked like him too- the spitting image of their father taking on his temperament too.

Skipping a bit because- I’m so normal about this part-

“My name is Brutus and my name means heavy. So with a heavy heart, I’ll guide this dagger into the heart of my enemy. My whole life you were a teacher and friend to me. Please know that my actions are not motivated only by envy. I, too, have a destiny. This death will be art. The people will speak of this from near and afar. This event will be history, and I’ll be great too. I don’t want what you have- I want to be you!”

Oh me when they nearly kill Centross. I’m so incredibly normal. About that in particular.

They didn’t just do this for what he’d done to them- at-least that’s what they tell themself- they do it to protect their family. The only people they care about that he hurt. Their actions are not only motivated by their care for what happened to them, but for what happened to the grove.

“I don’t want what you have- I want to be you!”

Now- contradictory to my last statement- this is about them. About the lingering mindset of corruption that has them in the same place of envy and anger and want that they were stuck in before. They want to be him now- wanting the respect of others like he had, wanting people to care about them in the same way- trust them and believe them the same way they do him. They want it to be easy- to not have to be looked at like they’re crazy or with pitiful gazes lines with fear and panic when the people they love look at them like they’re a monster.

NOW THIS IS THE LINE IF BEEN THINKING ABOUT ALL DAY-

They don’t know their name at this point so I am not going to say it here- but- “My name is Sherbert but the people will call me Creation(Creation’s child)” BECAUSE HEAR ME OUT- Fable was a military guy, he probably taught them a lot about war strategy as a child of them sitting in the war room as a little kid is anything to go by- and he’s a killer though they don’t know that yet. Following in their fathers footsteps, they’ll hurt the people they care about the most when trying to do something they deem as good for the people. Good for a kingdom, or good for the grove. And then end up with angry looks and sharp words that they didn’t want- that they did this to try and *avoid*

Just- me when they’re called Creation’s child and they follow so closely in his footsteps that sometimes it almost makes the lines blur between the two- even just in their tone of speech. Their tone of speech during the S2 arc and also the corruption arc nearly recreated Fables sharp and angry tones he speaks in and I just. Mm. This is all I’ve been thinking about right now.

That’s all I’ll say- I’ll cut myself off here but I have so many thoughts about this and the season 2 prison arc specifically- hence my whole playlist… it’s fine- I’m normal guys totally.

mmmm personality, i think. CM isn't the most immediately distinct character, i still kind of worry that they're a bit forgettable.

petty criminal focused on their own survival -> learned to care about others, became a parent and was inspired to clean up their act to be a better role model -> oh no turns out they can be corrupted by bat *****, the "caring about others" development is narrowing back down to "caring about their loved ones foremost and increasingly letting the rest slide", uh oh, oh jeez

so it's going well

they don't have an ending yet :) could be good, could be bad, i have a few... ideas... but nothing is canon

NOW onto the main event: I've done some thinking for the small revisions/ fitting that oneshot into the timeline,, Reader is a born and raised Snezhnayan,, Pantalone is born in Liyue (pry this hc from my dead HANDS hoyoverse) but he's renounced that nation and its god for never lending a helping hand,, and now resides in Snezhnaya under the Tsaritza. Based on Arlecchino's jab at him in the Lazzo trailer,, Im assuming Pantalone RARELY ever travels out of snezhnaya.

For this,, let's just say: This is Loverboy's 3rd year of service, where all fatuus are mandated to carry out orders abroad. Work experience and what not. Maybe 4-ish months into working bank in liyue, reader is vibing- but orders come from Pantalone,, a handful of fatui are expected to dig up dirt on a Liyuean man's business and report back to Pantalone. It's CEO boss would be meeting Pantaloone soon. Small group project. No biggie. Loverboy isn't stupid. The fatui didnt make it to where they are WITHOUT underhanded ethics.

So he goes. Back to snezhnaya in his group with trade secrets in tow. The meeting goes terribly. bullets and blades fly. So does loverboy and pantalone out a window. A hydro vision is granted. Pantalone does the kill FOR reader. You know how it goes-

Im thinking that this mission with loverboy's first blood can be the follow up Part 2 of that. Pantalone gets to: 1. tie up loose ends with any witnesses that got away. Can't have the scandal of a failed endeavor run thorugh the streets. 2. take his relatively naive subordinate for a spin. He simply Had to see what made Celestia grant their authority unto loverboy. And not him

Afterwards when all is said and done, man killed and Loverboy dismissed back to liyue to finish his final year of duty,, pantalone can rest a little easy knowing reader is on the right track for now,, afterall, there's only so much he can do as a High ranked fatui Officiant. He has his own goals to conquer for now,, maybe he'll get back to his loverboy pet project After becoming a Harbinger.

Good things come to those who wait. It's a matter of how long. I think pantalone can already guess that reader would quit the fatui business after his mandated 3 years. Thats fine with him tho. He know's Loverboy would come right back.

yes,, this could be a minor thing to adjust: i think we could actually fit this oneshot somewhere AFTER he gets his vision,, and BEFORE Pantalone becomes the Harbinger Regrator. Can be a valid reason for Pantalone to see that reader failed to kill the assassin from their shitty negotiation meeting,, and wanting to newly test him again after he had his vision + ambitions awakened to see if he can get past the fear of killing NOW. (Even then,, maybe due to inexperience/unfamiliarity of using visions, reader didn't think to raise his advantage of supernatural powers against another visionless man in this scenario.)

I went back to read the part about the anonymous source line came from, and I think I figured out what happened here, so allow me to explain  (;ﾟдﾟ)   Ok so, it has a bit to do with the weird way I wrote this because when I said I wrote this on the train that was half a lie. I wrote some of it on the train and the rest at the library where I also edited what I already had because the spelling mistakes were atrocious. Prowler roars loudly and clocks aoi kao right in the mouth, causing the inner demon to back away, snarling slightly and coughing, before it could recover. prowler unleashes a powerful beam, knocking it backwards towards the ground as he roared, still changing and forming as he snarls, rushing towards aoi kao as he clamps his jaws around his neck, the inner demon roaring out loudly and steaming as it felt it’s energy getting drained slowly, aoi kao roared out in pain as it kept punching prowler, and punching and punching, it didint want to be lose like this! it screeches out loudly before clamping it’s own jaws onto prowler’s neck, before releasing a exploding shockwave, knocking prowler back, before the demon had time to react further to that, aoi kao roared out loudly before firing out a massive magma colored looking beam, with the full intent of burning prowler to nothing but dust and ashes, prowler snarls in surprise at being engulfed, before roaring loudly as his aura bursts, the inner demon raises a eyebrow, what was happening now?! the entire aura bursts with a huge energy, as waves of heat and flames sprayed everywhere as his aura bursts rapidly, roaring loudly as his form changes once again, as the excess ink and stuff were sprayed onto the corrupted demon, who twitches slightly, aoi kao roared as he crashes into a mountain due to the impact, alpha and susan were shielded by the blast thanks to lizzie, she uncovered them as soon as the smoke cleared as alpha coughs a bit, rubbing his glowing eye as he and susan looked onward on the changes that happened to prowler. one thing for sure. he looked way more taller than usual. and his colors were slightly off. along with the fact his gills had now been replaced by extra eyes.... “hmpt.... well.... this is new......”

his overloaded form no longer looked anything like it once was, thrashing around his two tails as he stood in a upright bipedal hunched over manner, growling and hissing as his body steams with magma leaking out of cracks around his body, steaming and wisping as he stares at where aoi kao crashed into, growling and slowly walking over, unaware at first that the corrupted demon behind him was slowly waking back up. prowler stares at the rubble as he snorted, before raising his claws as they glowed purple “time to end this little game it’s doing....” he says quietly but before he could even bring it down, the inner demon bursts out of the rubble, roaring and nearly slamming prowler away to the ground, cracking and steaming as the damaged messed up monster roars loudly in anger at prowler “YYYOUUUUU!” it roared louder as it’s aura spiraled “YOU FUCKING SON OF A BITCH!!!!”

“LOOK WHAT THE FUCK YOU’VE DONE TO ME!!! YOUR RUINING MY FORM!!!” it roared out in rage and anger, it’s body cracking and steaming as it looked almost similar to the other form the corrupted prowler took before it’s shell was shedded. prowler grunts, getting up a bit as he snarls and snorts “that’s your own fault, bitch.” he says, grunting as aoi kao twitches it’s many eyes. before screeching out loudly “IM GOING TO ENJOY TEARING YOU APART BEFORE TAKING YOUR BODY!!!” it said as it roared and charges towards prowler, the demon himself huffed and side-stepped, punching the inner demon straight in the gut as it screeches out loudly, before being sent flying towards the ground, it groaned, staggering up but in a more quadurple fashion since it’s original form was starting to break apart. the weight of all that thick ink was making it’s movements more slower and broken, coughing as it staggered, glaring at prowler as purple sparks pierced out of it, crystals sprouting around it’s body as it’s eyes widened “WHAT.... YOU... YOU WOULD DARE USE YOUR STATUE ABILITY AGAINST ME?!?! YOU FUCKING PRICK!!” it screeches out loudly right about to go beserk and unleash it’s last resort attack, before getting punched away quite a distance by a familiar screech, prowler looks over, blinking in surprise as aoi kao groaned, twitching and staggering up, coughing up ink before it’s eyes widened “.....COME... THE... HELL.... ON...”

The Corrupted Prowler looked less monstrous than usual. but then again that could just be due for most of it’s excess features and parts being eaten up by the other. but even then it was still the same height as before, scoffing and grunting, before screeching loudly at aoi kao, lumbering towards it in a gorilla like fashion as the inner demon coughs and stumbles, hissing and glaring “YOUR REALLY BEGINNING TO MAKE THIS SO DIFFICULT..... URGH...” it coughs, stumbling and holding it’s stomach, seeing crystals sprouting and covering chunks and parts of his body. he grunts, coughing as he staggers a bit as prowler watches. he grunts. he cant let the other one get to it first. he has to be the one to merge them all back together.... his hands and body glows a faint purple hue as his aura glowed slightly, his eyes pink and red as he stares, his hands sparking and glowing as he grunted “only got one shot at this..... please let this work.....” he says to himself, before starting to run over, emitting a loud roar as the others watches in both confusion and awe.

It was a plotline that they had to cut out due to time limits. The writers were overly ambitious and didn't realize how quickly their finale was coming up so they had to rush to resolve a couple things.

I interpreted the scene differently, tbh. I didn't feel like Sam was being pushed against that hard. maybe just me hearing what I wanted to hear lol but I think it's very in character for Sam to refuse to cooperate with a team put together and operating by a known shady crook of the govt. presuming Bucky and Sam are as close as we assume from TFATWS and CA:BNW, Sam was probably aware of Bucky's motivations for running for Congress and of the situation with impeachment against Valentina.

...then Bucky gets strong armed into being part of a state-sanctioned group of Avengers in a way that let's Valentina get off scot free. her power limited in ways, as Yelena pointed out, yes, but she's certainly not impeached and behind bars. and consider what happened to Bucky's Congress friend and everyone else who'd been opposing Valentina. by cooperating and becoming the New Avengers, they did effectively endorse the corruption.

and I honestly think it makes sense for Bucky's characterization to do that!! I rambled about it somewhere already but clearly Bucky had been trying to do good by playing within the rules of the system, and now he has the system wanting him to help by superheroing. given his fears and insecurities and general position in life, I think it makes sense that he thinks that doing this is for the best. he's trying to do the right thing by cooperating.

Sam tried that and we all saw how it went in BNW. so I think this is a really understandable divide for them to be at a cold standstill over: from Sam's POV, the world can't afford for the superheroes to be payrolled and following orders from the rich and influential, and that's exactly what Bucky has agreed to do. Sam was already putting together an independent team and he's just staying on course.

also, while I love the potential for character growth for all of them bc of this, I definitely see the Thunderbolts at the end as having made it to the stage where they all Do Good Things now but not all of them having reached the point of doing the good things for good reasons. true heroism ala the original Avengers is doing the right thing selflessly, with the focus and all the heart going into wanting to help others. I get the impression that most of the Thunderbolts in that end credit scene are more on the vibe of needing for their lives to not fall apart again so this needs to work goddammit - and just mmmm the potential for a next step in their character arcs where they grow and learn healthier mental habits and begin to shift their motivations for doing the good things from fear of failure to an honest desire to help others. yes plz.

but in light of that i felt like their criticism of Sam and his team spoke favorably of the character of Sam and his team, since we hear through this conversation that the Thunderbolts do Not have their shit together and their primary concern is preserving their own status. I love all of the characters and I love them together, but at the end of the day they are currently a publicity stunt of a corrupt faction of the govt and it sounds like they may care more about their negative press bc of the possible implications for their job security than they care about helping people.

Sam's priorities are in the opposite order, and I think it's that that makes the convo at the end not sound critical to me. the Thunderbolts kinda ARE fake heroes. I don't think the characters would even all get along on the same team - I think the Thunderbolts have a great Runaways kinda team dynamic that would be beautiful if they didn't have to deal with the pressure to perform.

and so lastly. (i am tired and this has no structure sry 😭) Bucky is trying to be the good experienced mentor of the team and help keep everybody on the path toward doing good things for good reasons, but they are currently mostly at the good things for selfish reasons stage AND they're sanctioned by a corrupt govt, so he's in a bad position. and Sam is looking at this team of people who aren't exactly heroes yet, who have a history of doing bad things for bad people, and seeing that they are agreeing to be state sponsored by bad people, and he's not okay with that and not happy that Bucky is going along with it. I think Sam would be worried for Bucky, and thinking that Bucky's going to backslide, and feeling like this shows Bucky already has, and that's not unreasonable of him. I think it makes sense that they's talk it out, Bucky would insist this is the right thing to do, and Sam would refuse to accept that leading a team under the sanction of bad people is a good idea. Bucky's playing with fire, even though his motivations are good.

I’ve seen Thunderbolts*! Here’s my full, SPOILER review!

Buckle up, i’ve got a lot of thoughts and a lot of word space.

Well, that was a pretty great movie! If you’ve seen my non spoiler review you’ll know I gave it an 8/10, and rightfully so. The first hour, hour and a half of the movie eats the rest of the movie up and if the ending had been as good as the first acts I would give it a 10/10. it kind of felt underwhelming and almost like it was a “power of friendship” moment—though none of these people are really friends, so maybe that’s the point.

First of all—Yelena and Bob. God, they were amazing, I loved the dynamic between them and it was really interesting to see the whole void thing come into play with how they felt about life. It was great.

The first scene when Taskmaster, Yelena, Walker, and Ghost all meet—that was amazing. my jaw DROPPED when Taskmaster got shot in the head, I wasn’t expecting her to get taken out so soon or by one of the Thunderbolts. I mean, we all knew she was a goner but I really wanted to see a little more of her. I liked her suit a lot!

Obviously, I have to talk about Bucky. I have two small complaints—one, I wish we saw a little more of him. Considering he was listed second in the credits I think he was a little underused and slightly nerfed but honestly not by much. to go off that, I WANTED TO SEE HIM IN THE VOID! the only thing we got was a nod to the fact that while he was in his void searching for yelena and bob (“i have a great past, so I’m fine” that whole thing) he obviously saw something to do with the winter soldier. call me crazy but i saw blue lights in the room behind him that he crashed through from and it gave very much cacw winter soldier flashback vibes. and i WANTED TO SEE THAT! i wished we could have seen more than yelena, bob, valentina, and walkers voids.

Oh, valentina. she was so horribly great, i was so ready for the thunderbolts to rock her shit but then she turned it around and called them the new avengers. oh i hate her so much they did so good. her assistant was kinda slay too but eh!

NOW ONTO MY COMPLAINT AS A SAMBUCKY ENTHUSIAST—WHY TF DID WE ONLY GET A MENTION OF SAM? AND IN THE POST CREDITS? Honestly, i find it crazier that sam and bucky talked off screen and they didn’t even show us. and that APPARENTLY the conversation didn’t go over well, and now sam is suing them… guys we might actually be in the sambucky divorce era im gonna crash out. can they just kiss hug it out and get over it. and considering how close they got in tfatws and we saw them talking the cabnw i just really liked their dynamic and how happy they seemed as friends and now that’s just gone (but it is funny that sam is suing bucky and co). although, it will make for an interesting dynamic come doomsday, which makes me nervous considering that bucky’s time in the mcu is coming ever so closer to an end… (someone start recommending me bucky fics NYOW)

honestly, i kind of don’t like the whole new avengers thing. i kind of wanted them to stay as the thunderbolts, as dumb as it might be. I don’t like valentina though and I really wanted them to kick her ass. it was a funny credits sequence tho, with the “new avengers? nope!” love that they’re still universally hated i guess.

okay, i’ve gotten past how much i love bucky and must move on to the Other Things that happened.

now, about the INSANE DROP IN THE CREDITS? the second i saw the “fantastic four: first steps theme” in the music credits i was like oh it’s so over. AND THE SHIP? oh dude their world is so cooked, doomsday is gonna be fire AND ARE WE GONNA SEE THE THUNDERBOLTS (new avengers) AT THE END OF FFFS? ARE WE GONNA SEE THE AVENGERS AND THE NEW AVENGERS WITH THE FANTASTIC FOUR? see, that’s why thunderbolts* was a good movie! it’s got me actually planning to see Fantastic Four: First Steps because i NEED TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS!!! i’m hooked!!!

Walkers one liners were great and even though i hate him i kinda feel for him. Yelena and Bob and Red Guardian were stand-outs; I LOVE BOB! and red guardians entrance was incredible as well, along with the car chase scene up to bucky rocking everyone’s shit.

Like i said, the first half of the movie was a 10/10; the last maybe 45 minutes was more of a 7/10. i did love the thunderbolts getting applause in the street which valentina definitely liked once she got the idea to market them as the new avengers. also the fact that they operate out of the old avengers tower? the fact that yelena and bucky are lowkey leading? the outfits that kinda ate down? i kinda vibe with it, but like i said i would hav really liked it if they weren’t considered the new avengers. maybe it would have been better if sam had shown up in the end to rally them for his cause as the avengers or if they just stayed the thunderbolts and did missions more akin to what steve and nat did in the beginning of catws. obviously not with them unknowingly working for hydra, but them as undercover ops would be cool.

on jaunes inspiration being the maiden of orleans ( and how she was called the holy maiden or la pucelle ( the maiden ) a theory I have often seen and believe is that the crwby originally planned for jaune to be the next ozpin (but due to effectively gotten threats from fanbase to miles (the attacks on him ) they created oscar ( I mean the maiden powers came from ozpin and the wizard of oz in the books was a fraud who pretended to be a wizard and got into a leadership position which is like how jaune forged his transcripts and got into a position of leader both the wizard and jaune got trained by an active practicioner ( glynda trained oz in magic pyrrha trained jaune in combat ( though oz's best asset was still his head) plus the whole salem wanting to see ozpin burn ( jaunes inspiration being put to the fire for witchcraft ( among other things ) and salem witch trials being associated with witch burnings not to mention the ozark mountain range which includes the salem plateau. And I thought of the word Ozark, as in the Ozark Mountains/Plateau in the central/southern US, and I know that both Ozpin and Salem are (to a degree) named after places already

So I looked it up on Wikipedia, and it turns out that it’s split into subdivisions, including one called the Salem Plateau

Which made me think maybe I’m on to something here, speaking crackpottily

So then I looked at the etymology of Ozark(s), and learned that it might be a corruption of the French phrase meaning “of the arches,” (It is even suggested aux arcs is an abbreviation of aux arcs-en-ciel, French for “toward the rainbows) aux arcs

Mmmm I am sorry, but I am generally not interested in these kinds of theories...

When you start a series, you are gonna brainstorm for ideas... so obviously you are gonna come up with tons of plot-points you are not gonna use... I am only interested in what is in the final story... not because alternative ideas are bad or uninteresting, but simply because they were not written, so... there is really nothing to comment

In general, I don't like people deciding writers change things because threathened by the fandom... Unless it is stated by the writers themselves (like... for example Conan Doyle and Sherlock Holmes), I am not gonna get interested in such behind the scenes theories. Moreover, I think there is this idea going on in the fandom that Jaune has been somehow "downgraded" from MC and is now a secondary character. Well, imo this is simply wrong, he is a MC/deuteragonist and his importance is not less than the beginning. It is just this is an ensembled cast, so he has to share focus. His arc and story is still one of the most important in the series.

Oscar's introduction and story work for several reasons and I think he was always meant to be put in the narrative. His existence is foreshadowed since ep 2/3 when Blake speaks about a man with 2 souls. His story strongly parallels Ruby and they comment each other's arcs. I think the writers stated that since Jaune was growing they wanted a new newby that could give a fresh perspective on the other characters and the conflicts they were going through. Finally, his own allusion sets him up to be introduced later on. Princess Ozma/Tip is a key character in the Oz series, but she doesn't appear in the very first book. So, it makes sense for Oscar to appear after the first arc as the 8th true MCs after Pyrrha's death.

In short, I think the idea of having Oz reincarnate in Jaune is interesting and would bring a very complex dynamic and different plot-points and arcs for the characters. However, this is clearly not what the story wanted to do. Jaune and Oscar's arcs are similar, but different and both are important for the story... Having Oz reincarnate into Jaune would simply be a completely different series :) I also think it is totally fine for people to speculate and headcanon, though!

just finished listening to ‘The Passenger,’ and mmmm yeahhhh, I can definitely see why people are calling this story the weakest/most throwaway episode of the set.

I didn’t *dis*like it, though? I always appreciate seeing the ways in which the Time War compromises all sides involved, and how it turns factions within the individual ‘sides’ against one another. this war corrupts everything it touches, no one is immune.

plus the idea of completely turning a Time Lord human with no chance for return to Gallifreyan biology was something I don’t think I’ve ever seen in the lore before?? (fobwatching exists of course, but this is like fobwatching but with a complete *erasure* of that Time Lord identity, not just a temporary hiding/storing-away-for-later of it). now granted, I haven’t finished the other two stories in the set yet, so I may end up not liking this one at all by the time I finish and see how the other two tie into the overall arc. but for right now, I’m finding it an interesting standalone-ish story within the Time War demonstrating just how corrupt and morally-shady ALL sides of the war have become.
