Your weekly Adventure Agenda: Explore Australia from home
We’re going out. Outback.
This week, we’re taking our lockdown daydreams all the way Down Under. Travel Australia with 360° virtual tours, an interactive scuba dive on the Great Barrier Reef with everyone’s favourite nonagenarian (David Attenborough), and – to keep your spirits up – a Whitsunday Island Iced Tea.
No passport required, just passion. (And Wi-Fi). #PauseTheAdventure
Dive with David
There’s only one thing that could improve a virtual dive on the Great Barrier Reef, and that’s having Sir David as your dive buddy. Learn about life beneath the waves from the world’s greatest storyteller on this interactive journey. Plus, a cameo from Obama! Mind. Blown.
Explore in 360
Try before you fly! Thanks to Tourism Australia (and some pretty epic drone footage) you can virtually explore some of Australia’s greatest wonders in 360. The series includes the Whitsundays, Great Ocean Road, Great Barrier Reef and Biddlecomb Cascade.
Crush on these guys
Find inspiration for your own Australia road trip by following our favourite Aussie adventurers @saltytravellers (Monique, Jasper and their dog Bowie). Advisory warning, will lead to a serious travel crush. Plus, you know, dogs who travel. Scroll while knocking back the below…
Mix this Whitsunday Island Iced Tea
The spirit is strong with this one! Add 1/3 oz rum, 1/3 oz gin, 1/3 oz tequila, 1/3 oz vodka, 1/3 oz Cointreau, 2/3 oz lemon juice, 1/3 oz sugar syrup and ice to a cocktail shaker. Shake and strain into an ice filled glass. Top with cola and garnish with a lemon wedge. Finally, imagine you’re on an island in the Whitsundays. #lovewhitsundays
Rock out here
Along with ACDC, Australia is home to some pretty ancient rockers. Take for example, Uluru, at 600 million-years-old! Learn about the Red Centre’s sacred sites and their cultural significance from their traditional owners with these 360° videos of Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park.
Hot like Hemsworth
Tourism Australia recently hosted a weekend of live stream events. Missed it? Watch them here. Videos include a workout with Chris Hemsworth’s trainers, sunrise yoga with Elements of Byron Bay, and a BBQ cook-along with Aussie MasterChef favourites Hayden Quinn.
Make a change
For many of us, time at home channel surfing has made us reset and think about the future. Maybe that future involves living the dream and training to become a surf instructor at the Mojosurf Academy? Or at the very least, it should involve watching this awesome video.
Cook with Maggie
Join national treasure and co-host of The Great Australian Bake Off, Maggie Beer, for free lockdown cooking classes from her home in Barossa. Learn how to cook delish homespun dishes (with the added benefit of having a nosey around a celeb’s kitchen).
See the Opera House
Fancy a night in at the museum? From virtual tours of the Sydney Opera House to online exhibits from the Australian National Surfing Museum, get lost in the cultural rabbit hole of Google Art & Culture’s virtual museums, galleries and tours.
For more inspiration, visit our Australia destination guide. Or call for a chat. We’re WFH, but it’s business as usual for trip planning and cyber hugs.

Byron Bay Part 2
Byron Bay Part 2
I ended the last blog with an introduction of the Hostel in Byron Bay. The hostel was called “Nomads” hostel and is owned by Mojosurf. On night one of our first day in Australia, our program gave us a free barbecue (burgers and hot dogs) which was a way for us to get to know some of the people in the program outside of the people we were staying with in our hostel rooms. After the barbie, a few…

Our adventure together (part 1)
As I already wrote in my previous post, I waited 7 hours at the hostel, 4 hours at the airport and crashed during the night another 7 hours at the international airport of Brisbane. But it was worth it, because after 3,5 months my boyfriend Ruben would finally arrive!
Tumblr media
I barely slept but I was so excited to see him again. So I put a dress on, waited there with my heart balloon and Timtams (Australian chocolate). And there he walked in, finally! We hugged and kissed eachother. I even dropped some tears out of joy.
We ordered an uber to our Airbnb. It took some time before we reached our room, because it was only 9 in the morning. Nevertheless, I showed him Southbank and chilled and talked a lot.
Tumblr media
We couldn’t believe that we were together in Australia! Once we dropped our stuff in our room (finally a queensbed :) we moved back to the city. I showed him Southbank, the shopping area, the free ferry and the botanic gardens. Later in the afternoon we got some drinks in West end, which was close to our Airbnb.
Tumblr media
The second day, we went to the museum of Brisbane, Southbank again and during the evening we went to Kangoroo point. We brought some food so we could have a nice BBQ with a beautiful skyline view over Brisbane. We screwed up the BBQ a bit, but in the end we were creative enough to clean it. During the evening we made a walk through the Botanic gardens again and headed to a bar to have some drinks with live music.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The last day of Brisbane, we took a ferry again to Hamilton to pick up our car and heading to Australia Zoo. Our car got upgraded, and  we got a Toyota 4rev!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ruben persuaded me to go to the Zoo again because he followed al those TV shows from Steve Irwin when he was younger and it sure was one of items of his bucketlist. We went there and we saw Robert and Terri! Ruben had good luck to see them haha. And of course we petted a lot of kangaroos and koalas.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After the zoo, we went to a mall and bought some camping stuff at Kmart. The cheapest I-can-find-everything-there shop. Then after that, we enjoyed Brisbane for the last time. We walked through the night and we found a beautiful tree near the botanic gardens.
Tumblr media
The next day we left Brisbane, or well first I bought a cheap 20$ guitar from Gumtree as I started to play more guitar again in Australia. Then we headed to the Goldcoast to grab a lunch and we wandered around. After that we went to the national park Springbrook and we had a cheap camping spot where we would set up our tent. We forgot to buy some dinner so we ate chips and some crackers and wine haha. After that I played on my new guitar and we talked to our neighbours that night. We almost wanted to go to the glowworms from the cave… but we drank too much wine and we didn’t wanna risk our anything in these high hills and as Dutchies we’re not used drive in the mountains…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The next day I woke up at 6 am because I was not used to sleep that early and those freaking kookaburras (annoying Australian birds) sounded like they were laughing at us. They laugh like monkeys so you can imagine what I mean haha. We packed up our stuff again and walked to the Numbinah forest and falls, which is a 4km track and part of the Springbrook area. I was not in the mood but in the end we were both happy that we did it. Back to our car at 9 and we took the Dutch “stroopwafels” as our breakfast! I ate those a while ago. But we found that we earned something more so we stopped on our way at a café to have a proper eggs on toast brekky.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then we drove to Byron Bay. We could’t find any free camping spots so we went to a nice camping, which is still cheaper than a hostel. After setting up the tent we went to the centre and beach. We watched the sunset and headed for easy dinner. I showed him Guzman y Gomez, a franchise for Mexican food which is good for what you pay haha. After that we went for some drinks, one in beach house and later on in friendly railway.
Tumblr media
The next morning we walked through the Saturday market of Byron and chilled at the beach. At 12.45pm we went to Mojosurf, because I finally gave Ruben his birthday present. (And yes, his birthday was in March. Oops haha, but it is an original present!). We was really happy with it and actually he is better at surfing than me;).
Tumblr media
We got back to Byron and there was still some time left to see the sunset at the lighthouse. Such an outstanding view, way better than the clouds I saw in June. Back to our camping we made our hamburgers and we met a Dutch couple named Dennis and Kelly and we spend the night with them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We left Byron Bay the next day and after driving for some hours we reached a free camping spot at John River Tavern. We met there a Swiss couple named Beat and Coco and hanged out with them. Drinking a bit in the pub and played pool. Tony, the owner of the pub. We was very nice to us and he gave us free Australian meat pies. They’re one of the few typical Australian food.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The following morning we woke up. Ruben and I decided to go to spot some whales and we found them! Then we drove to a certain rainforest with a waterfall, but it has been very hot the past few days so there was almost no water. We quickly decided to move on and around the evening we arrived at Hunter Valley.
Tumblr media
This is a place well known for their vineyards and of course we wanted to do a wine tasting. We were a bit late, but we still got a small wine tasting. I can tell you it is a big difference compared to my 5$ wine which I buy for predrinks haha. As I saw my first kangoroo in this area, I promised Ruben that he would see his first wild kangaroo here as well. We found one, and then another one, and then we saw so many kangoroos! Even six of them and all jumping together. Lovely!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That night was actually really cold. I woke up many times (even though, I’m used to that here in Oz). I looked at my phone and it was 8 degrees… even though the previous day was 37 degrees. Australia has some differences in temperature when the sun goes down, but this one was a big difference. Well, no need to be grumpy right? The next day was a warm day again, we had a lovely breakfast and we were driving to Sydney!
Tumblr media
After 4 months, I am finally back in the city where I started my Australian adventure: Sydney!  This time the weather was an improvement. I showed Ruben all the highlights. We went to the Rocks in the afternoon. The next day we visited the Opera House, Botanic gardens, had a great lunch at Quay, took a ferry to Manly. We walked from Manly beach to Shelly beach and back. Then we took the ferry back and walked through Luna park, which looked really weird.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hours passed and then it was time to the golden hour! Took lots of pictures as we carried our cameras. We enjoyed the city by night and we walked back to our accommodation in Darling Harbour. We walked 20 kms in total, one of my records. I cooked curry for him and it felt good to make him happy again with my food! I missed that happy smile from my cookings.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then later we wanted to have a drink in the city. We were a bit distracted by editing our pics, so we went later outside. It turned out that every cafe would close at 22:30. Even though I warned Ruben about early going out in Australia, I didn’t expect this either and we went back.
Tumblr media
The other day we went to Bondi beach and we did the coastal walk and walked back to Bondi to check some shops. Then we went back and in the evening we tried to get a drink earlier. We went to the Rocks again to have some beer tasting. When we got back, our Airbnb host and his friend (apparently he is a famous Australian Football League player)  asked us to join for a drink. I asked where they would go and they said Scary Canary. My first thought was “hmm, I think they will go out instead of just having a drink”, Ruben wanted to join so I said “sure”. When we reached Scary Canary, Ruben looked at me and I thought “haha, exactly what I thought.” Normally I’d like to go, but being together as a couple here is a bit different and we’re not planning to go out that much. It’s even better for my bank account, which is going down at the moment and I didn’t want to pay for the entrance for just an hour. So after standing like 20 minutes in the queue, we decided to leave.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The next day, we said goodbye to Sydney and went to the Blue Mountains.
