Okay a while ago I watched “Night of Fear” and started thinking about Nova and I haven’t STOPPED thinking about Nova in that time so I might as well make a post about it.
NOVA’S FEAR IN NoF
All that is said in the episode about Nova’s fear is that she’s “lost her nerve”. But that doesn’t.... make much sense.
Being afraid of being afraid? Being afraid of not being able to stand up to things you fear??
I mean, it works. But barely. Let’s take a look at how the fear is represented, because it’s one of the more non-literal fears.
it’s represented at horrific grotesque inaccurate hallucinations.
Now, this could be a representation of the fact that she’s just feeling irrational fear at things that normally wouldn’t, and showing that to the viewer by making the things more scary to us too.
Or she’s literally seeing this.... thing.
she’s able to ground herself, or at the very least, not feel terrified of things when she can recognise them as family, and it’s implied that either that fear fades away, or she sees reality.
HALLUCINATIONS
Let’s go on the hallucination route for a moment here.
Now why on Shuggazoom would Nova be afraid of seeing things that aren’t there, and losing touch with reality, falling into a more scary and warped version of what’s familiar?
[related note: I watched this scene in Wormhole like 13 times trying to get a gif of Nova falling in and found out that my initial “headcanon” was actually fully accurate and the reason I had forgotten that the stretching is literally what happens is because it’s too horrifying in my brain to mesh with Disney properties. I am going to have nightmares. My entire soul is twisting in disgust like it’s Uzumaki.]
“Nova! I can’t believe it’s you!”
“Is it me, Chiro? I don’t know anymore. I’ve seen so much. The beginning of the universe, the-the creation of time and space- reality itself.”
“wow”
“I heard... a voice. Telling me that my friends wanted me back. And then I kept growing and growing-”
[a loud noise interrupts her, and this is never mentioned again]
WORMHOLE
I’m a huge nerd so I know how wormholes work off the top of my head.
Take a newspaper, or any piece of paper with stuff on it. Pick to spots on it and twist it however is needed to get those two spots to touch, as long at you don’t tear it.
That’s what a wormhole does, but instead of 2d space like we’re doing here, its doing it to 3d space. The “hole” itself is like taking a (for lack of better term) hole puncher between the two layers of paper and temporarily attaching them so 2d objects can pass through to the other side.
It’s moving our 3d world in 4d space.
But remember, she fell into the wormhole, and possibly OUT of it. Nova wasn’t anywhere on the piece of paper, she was HERE.
and a 2d creature in 3d space?
I believe Nova died while in the wormhole because I believe that the Pantheon of the Monkey Team Universe is at least a little merciful. Because a 3d creature entering 4d space is a fate worse than death. Usually resulting in death. Because all their organs fall out in a direction they’ve never even thought of before.
The disembodied voice that the team talked to was kind enough to put nova back where she was supposed to be.
Either like this
OR LIKE THIS
WHICH WOULD MEAN SHE IS A 3D CREATURE CREATED BY A 4D CREATURE, IN MODEL OF ANOTHER 3D CREATURE SO CLOSELY IT IS TREATED AS THE REAL THING.
Or a combination of the two, using whatever was left of nova as the base and rebuilding her from there.
Anyway, enough me rambling. Nova experienced things no creature on our plane of existence should ever or COULD ever experience and it’s fucking glossed over in the show except for this one little straw I’m grasping at.
BACK TO THE FEARS
So, Nova’s worst fear is experiencing a skewed reality much like the one she was in inside the wormhole. Not losing her nerve. Losing touch with the reality she realises is so important and comfortable to her. It would take the power of one of the many gods to really put her back in that place, but hallucinations happen in THIS world.
It wouldn’t take powerful magic to make them happen.
To convince her that she’s back in that horrible warped and stretching place, or even just remind her of how fragile reality is for her.
So, In summary. Trauma.

hey i love the alchemist.
i fucking love the alchemist. He’s so cool.
I’m trying to piece together what was planned for him before season four. Because... the wording suggests what we see in Golden Age isn’t what was in mind during In The Grip Of Evil.
It’s just a little different.
He suggests that the monkeys were made after he knew he was going to become Skeleton King.
Or that Skeleton King happened as a result of him creating the monkeys to be heroes.
But in Golden Age SK happened nearly unrelated to his monkey business. If he had mandarin or not that portal might’ve malfunctioned, or he still would’ve looked into the dark ones.
