the only reason i am here is for kai, secondly, KAIIIIII
OMG you are the walking contradiction™️ starter pack and I love it.
Like one minute you're out here writing scenes that would get you flagged by three federal agencies and a horror author support group, and the next you're crafting a love story so soft it makes flower petals look like sandpaper. And neither of them are published?? Babe you’re depriving the world and your local therapist.
ALSO I play Ghost of Tsushima. Nothing like slicing through enemies in silence with the wind guiding your sword. i used to have a Red Dead Redemption 2 era but school and my great teachers made sure to put that one on a hold.
Okay, so first time making a tag game. Hopefully it goes well 🤞
EVERYONE, POST A PIC OF TWO OF YOUR CONTRASTING INTERESTS!!!
It can be anything from a fandom to a hyper fixation. Maybe you like Hazbin Hotel and cute snuggly stuffed animals. Or you like Amphibia and have a gruesome interest in serial killers. Literally anything as long as they are polar opposites.
Here's mine:

As much as I love all things superhero and scifi, fantasy will always hold a special place in my heart. Whether it be high or low, urban or medieval, dark or lighthearted, this broad genre has always intrigued me in the best ways possible.
And for Spider-Man...that's retry much self-explanatory lol.

Watching the new Fionna and Cake episodes just pushed the idea of these two being the same in my head

is the Witcher worth it? I'm not familiar with the original books so I'm clueless what to expect from it but I hear it's really not worth watching.
No.
The books have their own issues, but there's depth to them. Plus they're pretty good in capturing Slavic mentality and the way of storytelling.
The show stripped them of any nuance to make them fit gritty-woke-US idea of what should MODERN FANTASY look like. Where the first season wasn't bad, and plenty of people naively assigned its deficiencies to teething troubles, the next two clearly showed the creators want to tell their own- subpar- story, while reaping views secured by well-known trademark.
If you're interested in that world, try the books- especially the short stories are pretty good- or the games, that approached the world with love and respect. (From the first one, if you don't mind older games, certainly the third, which offers pretty complex story and loyal teleporting horse.)

literally none of these comments are actually engaging with the actual point the original OP was making, which is that 5e (a product owned by the Hasbro company) isn't the thing that facilitates great improvised stories and roleplay with no need for combat: it's skilled game masters who do that
I generally love Brennan but he went on this baffling rant in a fireside episode of the Worlds Beyond Numbers podcast about how he likes 5e because it has a great social system that doesn't get in the way of the kind of story he wants to tell—which is really only possible because, as an experienced improvisor and storyteller, he has made the executive decision to ignore almost the entire 5e product, using only a relatively small aspect of it for that game (basic character building plus skill checks). and that's fine! it's like playing a homebrew boardgame using a chess set, which honestly sounds really fun and i might design that!
but my main point here is that combat is baked into the 5e product. character creation and advancement revolves around combat. the ruleset was balanced for combat (i.e., the character classes are intended to be equally useful in combat). the first two arcs of the Worlds Beyond Number podcast have leveled the characters up to... 2? because combat utility (i.e. character advancement) is so unimportant to the 5e product when you're not doing the thing it's primarily designed to do, i.e. combat
If you have a hard time improvising low-combat games in 5e, using pre-written modules can be great to get you to understand how to incorporate combat better; what they're generally not going to do is help you learn how to run a high-roleplay low-combat game (though some materials, generally not the ones commissioned by Hasbro, can!)
there are, on the other hand, other products that are designed to help game masters run high-roleplay low-combat games! this is the what all those annoying 'try something besides dnd!' people are trying to say: it's not 'dnd sucks' but 'these other games are good at other things, and will help you figure out how to do those things better than trying to force them into dnd will'
if you don't mind running combat and the 5e product is working fine for you, great! to extend the original OP's metaphor, it's one recipe and maybe it's a recipe you really like. but if you're trying to avoid meat, taking a meat recipe and just not using meat won't yield the same kind of results as trying out a new vegetarian recipe

"I assume you have come here to slay me?" the crowned dragon asked. "While that was indeed my original quest the people of your kingdom have spoken of you favorably and I have decided to hear your side first" answered the monsterslayer.

Okay it took a while to get some of my thoughts together after finishing the vod but I'm really interested to see where this "Saving Gabriel" plotline is gonna go and what it's affects might be on the server's trajectory as a whole.
Over the course of the questline we learn Gabriel, with the help of the Monsterslayer, is looking for some sort of treasure, though they're not the only ones looking.
Which brings us to the thing I think has the most potential to affect the server longterm. These aren't just random rough pirates, or at least they probably aren't. Their (seemingly) main base of operations is under the Kestrel base. With the main entrance being in the well. The well sitting smack dab in the middle of the Kestrel base. This leads me to believe that whoever these people are, they're Kestrels. It's gonna be hard to consistently access the well if their very presence in the Kestrel base is gonna arouse suspicion. Which, as I said, suggests that whoever they are, they are at the very least affiliated with the Kestrels.
This is gonna have a ripple effect. A group of Kestrels attack a well respected Heron while he's out at sea, capture him, and lock him up under the Kestrel base. Now attacking Gabriel out at sea, fair game, though I feel like locking him up on the faction isles might be a bit of a gray area. Even if it's not actually against the rules, I can't imagine it's going to do anything to improve relations between the two factions.
Now I will say, I think Martyn was telling the truth when he said he didn't know anything about this. He's a new heron, whatever is going on seems to be a big secret, not letting the new guy in on it makes sense. For similar reasons I will assume Scar's innocence. Sausage, Oli, and Kyle though? Them I'm less certain about. I could see them going the "none of the Kestrel players know" route for simplicity, or I could see them having one or more of them in on whatever it is too just for the drama of it. Only time will tell just how many Kestrels are in on this.
I'm also curious what exactly it is that Gabriel is after. He's a Heron so I'd assume whatever it is is of historical importance, and it's also interesting just how many hoops Gabriel has already been shown to have to jump through to find it, plus there will no doubt be more, and who knows how Gabriel found the first clue he had written down in his journal. Whatever it is, it's something big, and the Kestrels at least think it's valuable.
Another thing that is probably gonna come into play again later is that one crypt. The Slayer warns that if it opens it will doom them all, which seems like a bad thing. I'm just not sure how it'll come into play. Maybe they'll have to stop someone from opening it later? Maybe someone does open it and they have to deal with whatever is inside? What even is inside? Honestly there are so many unknown variables with the crypt I'm just adding it to the growing list of Chekhov's guns in this.
Honestly I'm really interesting, and I'm hoping we don't have to wait too long for part 2.

I'm now officially of the opinion that anyone who wants to write danger days fic that at all focuses on the logistics of killjoy life or their domestic habits is now legally required to read Trail of Lightning by Rebecca Roanhorse. Not only is it a FANTASTIC story about a Navajo monsterslayer, but it takes place after the apocalypse in the southwest us and adresses all the logistics of such a setting

The Gargoyles! Affluent and accursed , this group of noblemen experimented on themselves with monstrous elements in order to overpower the fiends. A taste for blood and the odd howl at the moon quickly escalated into becoming the worst creatures of them all!
