Traditional solar controllers are mainly developed for lead-acid batteries, and their compatibility with lithium batteries currently on the market is not good. In response to this question, we will mainly discuss what charge controller is the best for lithium batteries.
A good controller for lithium batteries should meet the following requirements:
1.wide voltage and capacity range
2.battery type can be selected
Lithium battery activation function. When the lithium battery is at the state of protection, it needs to be activated by mains power or solar because it can not be charged normally at that time.

Day 5 or 6 of working on the solar bike. The main bike is effectivaly finished. Decided to go lightweight on everything and it was definantly the way to go. On the back is a 24qt milk crate big enough to hold another few bike batteries. That has a thin as possible sheet of hobby plywood above it that is ziptied to the 50w flexible solar panel. And mounted to the milkcrate with hobby screws. The panel recharges the bike through a mppt step up charge controller. The front panel charges just a simple 5v battery pack for my phone. All in all, I think it turned out well.

What is the different between the lithium battery and the lead-acid battery?
Lithium battery and lead-acid battery are two common batteries on the market at present. Lithium battery and lead-acid battery have their own advantages and disadvantages. Lithium battery is better. Lithium battery is three times higher than lead-acid battery in terms of volume specific energy and weight specific energy. more than double. Lithium batteries are smaller, lighter, and have a longer cycle life. Although lead-acid batteries are not very efficient, the battery pack is bulky, resulting in a heavy vehicle body, short driving range, and the battery requires regular maintenance, but lead-acid batteries are much cheaper than lithium batteries.
If you are using lithium batteries with your solar power system, you will need lithium battery compatible solar controller. Lithium batteries require slightly higher charging voltage than standard lead acid battery solar controllers which often do not have the option to select lithium battery type. A standard lead acid battery solar controller may reduce the cycle life of your expensive lithium battery.
Because DC is DC(direct current), you can use a lead acid battery solar charge controller for lithium BUT you must have BMS to protect your batteries from being over charged or discharged, the BMS will regulates and immediately cut the current from the solar charger if it detected that your batteries are charged to the right voltage keeping your batteries safe.
For example: there are car batteries that is made of lithium and inside those batteries its usually BMS and lifepo4 or lithium ion cells, these lithium batteries does not require car owners to change their alternators(device in car that charge the battery) for that lithium battery and we know that almost cars by default they comes with lead acid battery.
For our MPPT, it can work with the lead-acid battery and the lithium battery, the default setting of the MPPT is for the lead-acid battery, if you want to use the lithium battery, before leaving the factory, it will be set the charging voltage according the data sheet of the lithium battery.
