Need to publicly shame this local school board a bit. I wish this would get out on bigger news. I live near here, and the only people talking about it are teachers.
On Thursday, the (heavily conservative) school board of Rutherford County, a massive suburb of Nashville, Tennessee voted to pass a resolution calling for the closure of the national borders. Their argument centered around complaining about how difficult and expensive it was to educate the county's growing ESL population.
This is so hateful, out of line, and insulting to our students. They're a disgrace to education as a profession.

Got to play D&D at the local natural history museum and it was fantastic!
Go look at your local museums and see what they're up to. Never would have expected to play at a museum, but I had so much fun! It was epic to fight dinosaurs right next to the giant t-rex fossil display!!

DIY vs. Professional Exterminator in Murfreesboro: When to Call the Experts
Living in Murfreesboro, we cherish our homes, our families, and our peace of mind. But sometimes, that peace can be disrupted by unwanted guests – pests. From the scurry of a mouse in the attic to the tell-tale bite of a bed bug, or the silent, destructive march of termites, pest problems are a common, frustrating reality for homeowners. When faced with an infestation, the first question many Murfreesboro residents ask themselves is: should I tackle this myself or call a professional exterminator?
This is a critical decision, and while the allure of a DIY solution is strong, understanding the nuances of pest control can save you a lot of headache, money, and even potential harm in the long run.
The Allure of DIY Pest Control
It's easy to see why DIY pest control holds appeal. Over-the-counter sprays, traps, and baits are readily available at local hardware stores, often with appealing price tags. For a minor, isolated issue, like a few ants marching across the kitchen counter or a solitary spider in the bathroom, these methods can sometimes offer a quick, albeit temporary, fix. You might save some money upfront and feel a sense of accomplishment for solving the problem yourself.
However, the effectiveness of DIY solutions often falls short, especially when dealing with anything beyond a very small, nascent problem. Most store-bought products are less potent than professional-grade treatments, and their application requires specific knowledge to be truly effective. Without understanding the pest's lifecycle, habits, and entry points, you're often just treating the symptoms, not the root cause. This can lead to recurring infestations, wasted money on ineffective products, and prolonged stress.
When DIY Just Won't Cut It: Signs You Need a Professional Exterminator in Murfreesboro
There are definitive signs that indicate your pest problem has surpassed the capabilities of DIY methods and it's time to bring in a professional exterminator in Murfreesboro.
1. Persistent or Recurring Infestations: If you've tried DIY methods and the pests keep coming back, or the problem seems to be getting worse, it's a clear sign you're dealing with a deeper issue. Pests like cockroaches and ants are notoriously resilient and can quickly establish large, hidden colonies that over-the-counter products simply can't reach.
2. Signs of Damage to Your Home: Pests aren't just a nuisance; they can cause significant structural and financial damage. Termites: These silent destroyers can literally eat away at your home's foundation and wooden structures without you even knowing. Signs include mud tubes on walls, hollow-sounding wood, and sagging floors or ceilings. If you suspect termites, do not delay – call a professional exterminator in Murfreesboro immediately. Rodents (Mice and Rats): Beyond the unsettling sight, rodents chew through electrical wires, insulation, and even plumbing, posing fire hazards and costly repairs. Droppings, gnaw marks, and scurrying sounds in walls or attics are tell-tale signs. Carpenter Ants: While not as destructive as termites, carpenter ants tunnel through wood to build nests, weakening structures over time.
3. Health Risks: Some pests carry diseases or trigger allergies, making their eradication a health priority. Cockroaches: Known to spread bacteria and allergens, exacerbating asthma and respiratory issues. A persistent, musty odor can indicate a cockroach infestation. Rodents: Can transmit diseases like Hantavirus, Salmonellosis, and Leptospirosis through their droppings, urine, and bites. Bed Bugs: These nocturnal bloodsuckers cause itchy bites and significant distress. DIY bed bug treatments are notoriously difficult and often ineffective. Bed bugs hide in tiny crevices and reproduce rapidly, requiring specialized knowledge and treatments to eliminate completely. If you suspect bed bugs, professional intervention is almost always necessary.
Mosquitoes and Ticks: While outdoor pests, severe infestations around your property can pose risks of West Nile Virus, Zika, Lyme Disease, and more.
4. Large or Widespread Infestations: If you're seeing pests in multiple areas of your home, or the sheer number of pests is overwhelming, it's highly unlikely DIY methods will be sufficient. A large infestation indicates a well-established colony that requires a comprehensive and targeted approach. Look for excessive droppings, strong odors, visible nests, or an abundance of live pests.
5. Difficult-to-Identify Pests: Correct identification is crucial for effective treatment. If you're unsure what kind of pest you're dealing with, a professional exterminator in Murfreesboro has the expertise to correctly identify the culprit and devise the most effective strategy. Misidentification can lead to using the wrong products and prolonging the infestation.
The Benefits of Calling a Professional Exterminator in Murfreesboro
Hiring a professional exterminator offers numerous advantages that DIY simply cannot match:
Expertise and Experience: Professionals are trained to identify pest species, understand their behavior, and locate hidden nests and entry points. This knowledge allows for a precise and effective treatment plan.
Effective and Safe Treatments: Exterminators have access to professional-grade products and equipment that are more potent and effective than anything available to the public. They are also trained in the safe and proper application of these chemicals, minimizing risks to your family, pets, and the environment. Many companies also offer eco-friendly options.
Long-Term Solutions: Beyond immediate eradication, professionals focus on preventative measures to ensure pests don't return. This often includes sealing entry points, recommending sanitation improvements, and implementing ongoing monitoring.
Time and Cost Efficiency (in the long run): While the initial cost of professional services might seem higher, repeated failed DIY attempts can quickly add up in product costs and potential damage repairs. A professional service, with its higher success rate and long-term prevention, often proves to be more cost-effective in the grand scheme of things. Many Murfreesboro exterminators offer comprehensive service plans for ongoing protection.
Peace of Mind: Knowing that your pest problem is being handled by experienced professionals provides invaluable peace of mind, allowing you to focus on enjoying your pest-free home.
Making the Right Choice for Your Murfreesboro Home
For small, isolated pest sightings, a DIY approach might be a reasonable first step. However, for anything more serious – persistent problems, signs of damage, health concerns, large infestations, or difficulty identifying the pest – calling a professional exterminator in Murfreesboro is the smartest and safest course of action.
Don't let pests compromise the comfort and safety of your home. When in doubt, err on the side of caution and consult with a reputable Murfreesboro exterminator. Their expertise will ensure your home is protected, and your peace of mind is restored.
