What I wanted so badly was for Mary to learn about her boys from Cas. Like that night where Cas finds her when she can’t sleep and she expresses that she just doesn’t know anything about her sons since she missed so much?? All I wanted was for Cas to sit down with her at the table and just start telling her about them. Basic stuff at first: their favorite foods, their sleeping habits, the stuff he’s just observed by being their passenger for years.
And then I want him to say something totally Cas, like “Dean always wears more layers but that’s because his body naturally runs two degrees colder than Sam’s. But that’s normal for him and not indicative of any illness, so it’s nothing to worry about.”
And as they talk, it starts to get a little deeper, and Cas tells her more. He tells her about what she missed, about all the horrible things that happened to her sons and how they coped; how it changed them. And he tells her about Sam, he does, but really it ends up being all about Dean.
He’ll tell her about how Dean clenches his fists when he’s upset, even as he tries to keep his face impassive. About how Dean drums his fingers on the steering wheel when he’s anxious. He’ll tell her about Dean’s nightmares, about the ways he’s chosen to cope. He’ll tell her how to know when to approach Dean and when to give him space, how to gently acknowledge what he’s feeling without pushing him too far.
And with every word he says, Mary’s curious head tilt from when she’d seen them hug in reunion turns into a bone deep type of certainty. Because Cas is telling her things that only someone who paid special attention would notice. He’s telling her things that only someone very, very close to her son’s heart would know.
Cas will tell her the cliff notes of what they’ve been through; will tell her how the whole world looked to Dean and he rose to the occasion over and over again. He’ll tell her about Dean’s doubts in himself and then vehemently declare them as wrong and explain, at length, why. He will tell her about the people Dean has loved— the people who loved him like he was their own— and lost. He will tell her about Bobby, Ellen, Jody, Donna, and Charlie. He’ll tell her about Claire, too, and how Dean stepped up.
And the whole time, Mary will have this realization that oh, she may not have been around to guide and protect her sons, but there was always someone there to care for them and support them when they needed it. She will realize that she and John may have left them, but they were never alone.
But more than that, there was someone there for Dean. Someone picking Dean over and over again while Dean picked Sam, or the world, over himself. There was someone fighting for Dean when he wasn’t fighting for himself. There was someone who saw Dean, and loved him unconditionally.
Sitting across from her, at the asscrack of dawn, filling her in on all the things she missed was every mother’s dream: someone who loved her child with the kind of devotion that would break the world. And from the sounds of the stories she was being told, it did break the world. Someone whose love is entirely untainted and comes without any strings attached.
It’s so clear to her as she listens to Cas talk that Cas loves Dean with no expectations. That loving Dean is something he just does, like he doesn’t know how not to love Dean, like the possibility of not loving him never occurred to Cas. He loves Dean in a way that Mary knows can and will soothe Dean’s sharp edges and battered heart. He loves Dean in the kind of pure way that tells Mary that it will continue to endure and overcome everything without ever diminishing, even the littlest amount.
Mary, through tears, will tell Cas how she always told Dean that there were angels watching over him. And before Cas can make some comment about Dean being the Righteous Man and the interest of most of Heaven, she will place a hand over his and give him a motherly look that will convey all the things she’s not sure how to say— and the things she’s not sure Cas is ready to hear yet. And Cas will flush and look away, mumbling about how her son is very special to him.
And when she pulls him into a hug and murmurs thank yous into his shoulder, she will be comforted in the knowledge that her sons turned out to be wonderful men, and that they managed to stay together through everything. She will be comforted to know that no matter what happens, no matter her shortcomings as she tries to fill a role she never meant to leave, Sam will have Dean and Dean will have Cas.
And this time, when Cas tells her that she belongs here, she will believe him. And she will tell him that he belongs here, too.
And when Dean wakes up a few hours later and wanders in to find Mary and Cas still chatting over the table, he’ll be surprised— but pleased— to find Mary looking more at ease. He’ll be pleased when she gives him a warm hug and pats him on the cheek and tell him with all the sincerity that only a mother can muster that she’s glad that he met Castiel. And when Dean agrees, a little confused, Mary will just smile at him.
“I always said I’d like a third son.” She says, “so give him a reason to take our last name, won’t you?”
And Dean will splutter and turn fifteen shades of red as he steadfastly doesn’t look at Cas but mumbles something that suggests he’s not against the idea at all.
And Mary will laugh again and wink at an equally red Cas before heading towards the kitchen like “Cas said waffles are your favorite, so I hope you’re hungry!”

Formula Ivy Academy was the most renowned private school tucked away in Monaco for the brightest people. Whether that was inventors, politicians, artists, thinkers, or athletes was anybody’s guess since FIA was very hush hush about what happens behind their walls. Which, in theory, should be the first sign not to get involved with a school like that. With the amount of money, fame, and reputation of how secretive this academy was, why the hell would anybody want to go there?
Well, anybody who wanted to be anybody, obviously.
Everybody and anybody tried to get in. Thousands of applications went in every semester. Most applications that were submitted were from those that came from wealth that expanded to celebrities and even royalty applied and were rejected.
The rest of the world only dreamed of going there and some had the balls to apply though they knew that they would be rejected. They didn’t have the funds to cover even a quarter of the tuition cost. The only way most people would be able to get in was on a full ride scholarship and according to rumors, full ride scholarships to FIA was like winning the lottery. A one in a million chance for most people. It seemed that FIA was painfully selective about who they let in.
Yet, you were that one in a million person who got accepted into FIA with a full ride.
Tumblr media
“Who is she?”
“I think that’s the new girl.”
“Really? She’s really pretty, how come she’s never been here before?”
“Rumor is she’s not from wealth.”
A few gasps erupted, “What?! How did she get in?”
“Full. Ride.” There were some murmurs, “apparently she was valedictorian at her high school and she applied and the school was impressed. She has to keep her GPA at least a 3.5 to keep her scholarship and,ïżœïżœïżœ there was a pause and throat cleaning, “she needs it if she’s going to stay.”
You roll your eyes hearing these girls before shaking your head. Casting your gaze at them the group quickly realized that they were talking much louder than attended and quickly scattered. You sigh softly while shaking your head because it was tiring.
You’ve been listening to the whispers and murmurs about yourself for almost a month straight since moving into the dorms back in August. The only places you found peace was in your dorm, since FIA had been so nice to accommodate you with a single room dorm so you can avoid that whole roommate thing, and the vast walls of the library but alas, instead you found yourself walking through campus as more people look and whisper.
You’re cutting through the green to get to your dorm building when a larger pair of Jordan clad feet fell into step besides yours. The pace was deliberate and rhythmic to match yours. You didn’t have to look over to know who it was. You stayed silent and forced your neck to look the other way though it’s no use. Everyone is looking at you and the new found walking partner though when you met their gaze they looked away. You let out a silent huff before craning your neck like a flower turning to the sun but the sun was actually the most annoying boy to ever roam campus who was 1 of FIA’s 20 star athletes and apparently, you’re upstairs neighbor that you try to avoid the best you can. He’s smiling, curly hair unruly, green and white jersey with his lucky ‘4’ on the front and his iconic gray sweatpants.
“Well, if it isn’t ‘Miss Popular’. You know I was getting a bit worried that you had already left before I got the chance to really know you.”
“First off, don’t call me ‘Miss Popular’ because I’m not,” you roll your eyes, “second you can’t get me to leave that fast. I’m sure the whispers and rumors about me are going to die down rather fast considering I think people are realizing that there really isn’t a lot going for me.”
“What do you mean by that?”
“I don’t have wealth like that nor do I care. I’m here to get my degree, make connections, and get a head start on my career and I plan to make sure that happens,” you glance at Lando then forward again, “There’s not much to me.” You shrug as you enter the building and you head down your hall towards your room.
“Bullshit.”
You scoff and look over at Lando, “excuse me?”
“I said bullshit. I don’t think that’s the real reason you’re here.” Lando stares down at you, “I doubt you’re just some random insanely smart person who got in with an amazing application. Celebrities and even royalties themselves get rejected but they let you in? Full ride? Just because they like you?” He scoffs. “But fine. Let’s go with that story but I highly fucking doubt that you’re going to keep your head down and just mind your business for the next four years. There’s a lot that happens here at FIA, a lot that would be rather dangerous if it got out. A lot of reputations on the line.” Holding out a stack of cash, “Maybe it would be for the best if you left, don’t you think?”
You stare at Lando in disbelief. Lando’s known as one of the friendliest athletes on campus. He’s always smiling and laughing and making everyone feel welcomed. Even you, the rare times you spoke before this moment but it became crystal clear in this moment that it was nothing more than a ruse to bribe you out of this school and this life. For what? Protecting the students' reputations? You could care less about your classmates and what they do in their spare time. It was none of your business and honestly you probably would forget about most of them and any scandalizing thing they do now.
But Lando wouldn’t believe that and it upset you more because it made sense. You were a nobody who got accepted into the most renowned school that was super selective. Everyone here had three things: money, power, and secrets. You have none of those. You are just a simple person with a simple life that really just wanted to further your education and make a better life for yourself so you didn’t have to worry when you grew older. Pay your parents back for all the sacrifices they made for you. Give back to your friends who saved you when you were drowning
or jumped in so you weren’t drowning alone. Unlike everyone else who had everything to lose and nothing really to gain, you had nothing to lose and everything to gain.
You stare at the stack of cash in Lando’s hand trying to mentally count how much was there, “How much—”
“100,000 in USD,” Lando finishes, “more than enough for you I’m sure. Unless you want me to just pay for whatever school you transfer to, I can do that as well.”
“No, no, the cash is fine—”
Lando smiles wider, “I th—”
You reach out for the money before slamming your hand down. The bills go everywhere as they fall from Lando’s hand and the Brit is stunned. His eyes widen as he stares at you in pure shock before his face darkens.
“IF I was shallow and had no self respect,” you snap back, “how dare you try to bribe me? You probably wouldn’t believe this but I actually do not give a single care about you or any other student on this campus. All you guys care about is your fame, your wealth, and the carefree lifestyles that you all get to have. Unlike you all, I actually have to work for my shit and I will continue doing that. I don’t have time to collect evidence of all these scandals and sell them to news outlets. Besides, I need connections so the last thing I want to do is ruin that chance by breaking the number one unofficial rule of FIA which is what happens within FIA walls stays within FIA walls. What do you take me for? A shallow tool?” Looking Lando up and down, you sneer slightly, “You know what you can do for me, Lando?”
“What?” The Brit snaps.
“You can take your cash and shove it up your fucking ass right along with the lacrosse stick that’s been wedge up there,” you give him a mocking smile, “have the day you deserve.” You turn, flipping Lando off as you continue down the hall before going into your dorm, slamming it behind you. Finally, tears spill past and you clamp a hand around your mouth to silence your cries. You stumble to your bed, vision blurry before crumbling against it, hiding your face into your comfort, sobbing as the weight of Lando’s words settles.
Nobody wants you here. Nobody trusts you nor likes you. To them, you’re nothing more than an outsider who was going to ruin all their reputations. Obviously, someone like you just could not be here to further your education and take this chance to connect and get a huge head start down your career path. That was all just some ruse to really make a quick buck off the rich and their bullshit drama. That you will never be accepted by them and you should quit while you’re ahead. Another sob rips out of your throat as you bury your face further, body shaking, trying so hard to will yourself to stop crying but it was so hard as a month worth of worry and pains had manifested as the cold hard truth and the reality was heartbreaking.
Then it dawned on you. It wasn’t bullshit. What was bullshit was the fact Lando thought you were so shallow. Actually, it was bullshit the entire campus thought you were that shallow. Are they so self absorbed that they really assumed you had applied just to expose what goes on behind the walls of FIA? God, you needed money but you weren’t that desperate for money. Unlike them, you actually gave a fuck about what you wanted to do in life. Especially because you were happily picking something that wouldn’t be destroyed so easily by mere rumors or a single photo to destroy your entire reputation. You didn’t care how much you got to gain to expose all of them, especially Lando after that lovely chat, because that’s what they expected of you. Instead, you were going to completely ignore them. Prove them wrong. Prove Lando wrong.
Settling, you sit there for a bit before slowly lifting your head. You ignore the oncoming headache or the fact your face is wet and puffy. You sniffle softly before patting yourself down and pull your phone out with slightly shaky hands. Arthur Leclerc was a rare friend you had. Well, you assume anyway but now you weren’t sure as you text him.
Do you hate me?-YN
Y/N, how many times do I have to tell you that I don’t hate you. Nor does Mick, Ollie, Kimi, or Charlie.-AL
Well, Lando just tried to give me 100K in USD to get me to leave the school since everyone hates me and nobody trusts me and that I’m here to expose everyone for money and not for my education and to get a head start of my career.-YN

He fucking did what?-AL
Yeah.-YN
Oh my god. I’m going to punch him at practice. Actually, I have piano so I won’t be at practice—I’ll have Charlie do it. No, he won’t—Kimi will-AL
No-YN
Don’t ‘no’ me! Y/N! You just told me that Lando bribed you because the rest of the school doesn’t trust you for some stupid fucking reason! Also, I know that you were actually warming up to Lando for this to be the reason? Oh god I should tell the couch! I’m going to tell coach—AL
No. No, I don’t need any more issues than already. I just
I just need reassure that you actually like for who I am-YN
Of course I do Y/N. Me, Charlie, Mick, Ollie. We adore you. You’re a breath of fresh air to us, really. You remind us that not everyone is stuck up and snooty and loves to be careless and wild because money and fame will save them. You remind us to slow down and enjoy the moments. You remind us to do things that we love even if nobody else cares because we enjoy the things we love. I promise, we wouldn’t trade you for anything in the world.AL
Arthur
that’s so sweet I might cry again but I won’t.-YN
It’s okay to cry!! I can come over with ice cream and blankets for cuddles-AL
No no, it’s fine. I don’t think I have any tears left. I kind of let out a month’s worth of sadness just out, so, I’m good but I might take you up on the offer for ice cream and blankets after your piano practice-YN
Okay, yeah. God Y/N. I’m so sorry this happened to you.-AL
It’s fine. I’m kind of upset Lando did this privately because the look of shock on his face when I smacked the money out of his hand was priceless.-YN
You WHAT?! Oh my god! You didn’t tell me that!!!-AL
Yeah well, I’m done being sad. I’m angry now.-YN
Anyway, yeah he basically found me. Walked me to the dorms asking if I was avoiding him and stuff. I had said that I just wanna focus on my education and get a jump start at my career and he literally was like ‘bullshit’. I was like ummm what?? Yeah so he goes on about how im a threat and all this—me, the nobody but whatever—and he was giving me cash or offering to pay the tuition of the school I would transfer to in full if it meant leaving since I’m just a wee peasant who’s only here to gossip and get paid by the news and get the school shut down. So I was like, “oh no the cash is fine”
-YN
Oh my god. What did he say?-AL
Oh he was gonna go on that I was making the right choice before I smack the money out of his hand. Man he was pissed-YN
I could imagine.-AL
Arthur, when I tell you watching his face darken out of anger was—kinda scary. Though mama ain’t raised a bitch so. I went off about how I can’t believe he thinks I’m shallow and that I truly could care less about my classmates and that I need these connections so why would I risk losing those connections by outing everyone, ya know???-YN
Oh I know.-AL
Thank you! So then I was like “you know what you can do for me” and he was like “what?!” all snappy and shit. I told him he can pick his money up and shove it right up his ass along with his lacrosse stick and have the day he deserves and the I flipped him off as I left
then I broke down and cried and now we’re here-YN
I AM SO PROUD OF YOU FOR THAT!!! AS YOU SHOULD! Oh my god, I am buying you dinner for that because that is amazing. Also, Lando can go fuck himself and I will personally make sure it happens at practice.-AL
Arthur!-YN
It’s fine! I already laid out that Charles is just to make Lando go a bit insane. No physical harm, all mental.-AL

Fine. Only because there’s no way I can convince either of you to not do anything-YN
You’re learning! Okay, I have to run but I will see you later tonight. You don’t have to, considering how news gets out around here but, Charlie would like to see you at some point just to make sure you’re okay so, just show a sign of life to him? Please? I’ll cover the ice-cream if you do-AL
I will, promise.-YN
Alright, see you see y/n!-AL
You too, Arthur.-YN
Tumblr media
It’s only been 20 minutes since your conversation with Arthur and you really didn’t want to leave your dorm let alone the field after everything that happened. You had finally found the energy to climb into bed curled up under the comfort while staring at the wall before frowning. You know that if you didn’t Charles would go insane with worry and blow up both your phone and Arthur’s and you really didn’t want to upset the only rare few people in your corner. Sighing, you force yourself out of your bed and go through your closet.
The school had uniforms that students must wear to classes. Outside of classes, students were free to wear whatever they wanted and you chose a baggy hoodie with a t-shirt underneath and fuzzy pajama pants that had snoopy all over them. Sliding your crocs on, you grabbed your keys, phone, headphones, and lanyard with your ID before heading out of your dorm and to the field. Putting your headphones on, you gently bobbed your head to the beat of the music as you crossed the green towards the field. Seeing the empty bleachers, you make your way up the ramp as you look out at the field.
There were the two lacrosse nets at the opposite ends of the field. The boys were lingering around the benches as they all chatted among themselves with five minutes to spare in this break. You scan among them, thankful that none of them spotted you. Expect the one that was sitting on the bench away, staring at a small group down. You saw the ‘16’ on the jersey and knew exactly who it was. You straightened up slightly when the player turned and saw you before lighting up like a child on Christmas and scrambling over to you, almost tripping over his own two feet.
“Mon chĂ©rie, there you are. I was worried you weren’t going to show that I was about to start calling for a sign of life,” Charles grins as he stands below the bleachers laughing softly. You can’t help the small smile that appears on your face as you lean over the edge of the bleachers looking down at Charles.
“Sorry, I was just—gathering myself.”
“I could imagine,” Charles frowns. “I truly am sorry that happened to you,” Charles whispers. “Just say the words and I will tell the coach or I can punch him. Really, I am angry enough to go through with it.”
“No you don’t have to punch him or tell coach,” you reassure Charles, “I think me slapping the money out of his hand, telling him off, telling him to shove the money up his ass, and flipping him off while telling him to have the day he deserves is probably enough.” You smile, “besides, I have no plans on transferring at all. Especially not after this. Him having to see my face should be enough of a hell for him.”
Charles laughs breathlessly while smiling up at you, “You truly are something else Y/N.” He grins while shaking his head, “Arthur mentioned something about ice-cream and blankets?” He questions.
You go to answer but feel someone just staring at you. Casting your gaze up you lock eyes with the sea green eyes staring at you. It seems that you and Lando are in a stare off that neither of you intend to lose but you only forfeit when you hear Charles scoff below you. “Charles,” you murmur softly and Charles looks up at you, a slight pout on his face, “please be nice so you can join Arthur and I and probably the others for ice-cream and cuddles. That’s what we mean by blankets.”
Charles gasps softly, “and I can join?!”
“If,” you start, “you leave Lando alone.”
Charles narrows his eyes at you and weighs his options, “okay, deal.”
“Leclerc!” Lando shouts, voice clipped, “lets go! No more talking!”
“Duty calls,” Charles murmurs and you shake your head, murmuring to Charles that it’ll be fine. You sit in the stands and switch between watching the practice and looking at your phone. You stand up when the coach blows the whistle to have the team come in to wrap practice up. You make your way off the bleachers and linger at the entrance of track as the team all heads to the bench to gather their things. You watch Charles swiftly grab his water bottle and bag before making his way over to you.
“You did it!” You applaud happily, “you survived practice and didn’t kill him.”
“I know, I know. Took a lot of self control,” Charles murmurs as he steps closer, “I’m pretty sure he was targeting me after seeing me talk to you. The audacity of him, can you believe that?”
“I could, sadly,” you roll your eyes, “he’s an ass. Just ignore him. Why don’t you get change and I’ll wait here and we can then head back to my dorm together?” You offer, “Arthur said he’d bring the ice-cream and Mick would bring the blankets.”
“Okay, I’ll be right out!” Charles says and is off.
You watch him leave and smile slightly before looking away and nearly jumping at Lando who just spawns in front of you. You look up at the Brit and all the emotions from early claw at your throat for an escape. You want to scream. You want to cry. You want to curse him out. You want to ask him why. There are so many questions in your head and you know that no matter what, you won’t get any answers so you settle for this stare off with Lando, even if your neck gets a cramp.
The silence is finally broken by Lando, “What were you talking to Charles about?” His voice is cold and icy. It almost seems uncharacteristic of the Brit but then again, he was full of surprises!
“None of your business.”
“I think it is my business since he’s a teammate of mine and I am also co-captain, so,” he lets his voice trail off as if indicating his importance, “kind of my responsibility to make sure our players are accounted for and safe.”
“Oh? Is it because he’s with me? Cause if you were really concerned, I doubt you nor Max would really be okay with the heavy partying that happens. Then again you two would be hypocritical.” You retort.
That strikes a nerve. He clenches his jaw and stares down at you in anger though he stays silent because he can’t really argue with you. Instead, Lando takes a deep breath while glaring, “well, is coming back to your dorm?”
“Why do you care?”
'“Cause I really don’t need you being so fucking loud and distracting me.”
“Seriously? You’re rarely in your room. When you are, you’re doing anything but homework. The only thing I might give a damn about is your streams for the poor people that watch you.” Crossing your arms over your chest, “but if you need to know since apparently hell has frozen over with you doing homework, I am having a few guests over and Charles is one.”
“Who else?”
“You don’t get names,” you snap. “First off, it’s not your business. Second, you don’t care because I’m just a nobody who’s here to gather intel and sell the secrets and make so money and get the school shut down instead of learning more and making connections and wanting a better future for myself since I’m not privileged like that,” you mock before scowling at him, “you think I’m dumb? No way am I giving out the names of the few genuine friends I have here.”
Lando goes to argue before Charles cuts in, loud and clear, “Oh mon chĂ©rie!” Charles stops next to you and glares at Lando who glares back at you, “Oh. Am I interrupting something?”
“Yes. You are.”
“No, you’re fine.”
You and Lando stare at each other before you turn to Charles who slings an arm over your shoulder, “Ready to go then?” Charles asks you, smiling and you nod. “I am.”
“Well. Have a good evening, Lando,” Charles tells him as you just turn and start walking off, leading Charles with you.
Your gut twists and you can’t help yourself even with Charles talking your ear off since you stopped so Charles could tie his shoe. You’re about to look back at Lando until Charles tells some stupid story which gets you to laugh loudly and you nudge Charles when he stands saying that it was a good story.
You hear a thud or something which gets you to turn.
Lando is standing there holding with his head of the lacrosse stick now snapped off. He’s got Max and Oscar on either side of him both concerned and worried while trying to talk to him but Lando is staring at Charles as if he’s trying to strike Charles down mentally before finally looking at you before. He stares at you for a moment before looking at Charles and scowling before turning sharply and heading to the locker room with Max and Oscar trying to figure out what the hell just happened before following Lando.
You stand there watching the trio head off. Your eyes fall on the broken lacrosse stick head. You can’t wrap your head around why Lando was so determined to figure out who was hanging out with you. Was it to turn the little friends against you? Was he just upset that you weren’t bending to his will and made a fool of him earlier today? Why was he like this
“Y/N?”
“Hm?”
“Are you okay?” Charles asks softly.
“Yeah, yeah,” you shake your head and smile, “I’m okay. Just
distracted, that’s all. Come on! I’ll race you,” you start and take off, giving yourself a head start as Charles is cursing and scrambling after you.
Even if Lando wanted you to leave and threw the world’s biggest tantrum as it seemed, you were quite comfortable staying here since you added a new life goal to your plans. It was a very simple life goal.
Make Lando’s regret trying to bribe you.

THEO HAD NEVER KNOWN the ugly emotion of jealousy. it was an unfamiliar feeling to someone like him, one that belonged to other boys, boys who had to fight for attention, compete for power. jealousy, after all, only creeps in when you see something you want but believe you’ll never have. that had never been theo’s reality.
from the moment he could speak, if he pointed at a toy in a shop window, his father’s gold handled it before he even asked. if he admired a rare piece of jewelry in passing, it was in his room by nightfall. no explanations. possession had never been a question, it was an expectation. even people, in their own strange way, came to him. at school, if he decided he wanted someone’s company, it was only a matter of time. he never pleaded, never played the fool to earn friendship. he watched, waited, and the chosen eventually fell into his circle. whether from fear, or fascination, it didn’t matter. they came.
his father had shaped him this way. the elder nott would speak in a tone that meant more to theo than a shout. “there’s a difference between being loved and being feared,” he told theo once, as they stood in the drawing room. “when people hear the nott name, they do not smile. they do not speak it softly. they whisper it. that is power. power isn’t loved. it is obeyed.”
theo was like a cloth wiping down a table: soaking up everything his father said, holding onto it all until the next time he needed it.
so no, jealousy had no place in his chest. not when he’d been raised not to envy, but to expect. not when the world had always shown him that if he desired something, it would eventually belong to him.
mattheo was the only one who didn’t fear theodore, his closest friend, most would say. even back when they were in school, people used to joke they were glued at the hip. they told each other everything. from the girls they slept with, in detail, to family stuff. nothing was off limits.
when mattheo got kicked out of his father’s manor and showed up at the nott’ manor asking for a place to crash, no one was surprised when theo’s father said yes. the place had plenty of guest rooms, and mattheo had always been like a second son to the old man. leaving him homeless on the street would’ve been unthinkable.
"helloooo, girl next door,” mattheo whistled under his breath, leaning forward slightly as he peered out of the window. theo was scrambling through the mess on his desk, trying to find a quill beneath piles of parchment and books. at the sound of mattheo’s voice, he paused, head snapping up. with a furrowed brow, theo walked over and came to stand beside his friend. his gaze followed mattheo’s, settling on the window that overlooked the neighboring manor. it sat a little further out, though one window in particular caught their attention.
directly across from theodore’s was your room. your light was on, the sky outside had already started to darken into deep blues and purples. from where they stood, they could see just enough: the curve of your shoulder as you walked past, the way your curtains shifted with the breeze. "oh yeah," theo muttered, looking away. "the new neighbor my father was talking about." watching someone through their bedroom window, even unintentionally, felt intrusive to theo.
“didn’t think to tell me?” mattheo asked, he watched you move around your bedroom, opening boxes, pulling out books and folded clothes. your hair slipped over your shoulder as you bent forward, revealing the line of your bare neck. “sorry,” theo sarcastically replied from beside him, arms crossed loosely over his chest. “didn’t think you’d care about us getting a new neighbor.”
“i didn’t.” mattheo tilted his head, shifting a little closer to the glass. “now i do.”
you had no idea you were being watched, placing a few things on the windowsill before turning toward the bed, where a white towel was laid out. mattheo’s gaze followed your hands as they reached for the hem of your shirt, lifting it slowly, inch by inch. you were probably getting ready for a shower.
a cold water bottle came flying through the air, smacking mattheo square in the cheek. “stop watchin’ the girl, will you?” theodore snapped. “you look like a fuckin’ creep.” mattheo flinched only slightly, caught off guard, then turned his head slowly, the corner of his mouth curling into that annoying smirk. he rubbed the side of his face where the bottle had hit but didn’t look the least bit remorseful.
“jealous?” he drawled, cocking a brow. theo didn’t answer right away. he turned back to his desk, sifting through the mess like he hadn’t heard the question. a few crumpled pieces of parchment were swept into his hand and tossed into the nearby bin. “you’re still the love of my life, theo,” mattheo added, leaning back against the window frame. “there’s no need to be jealous.”
theodore let out a dry snort, not even turning around as he casually flipped him the middle finger. “and if she catches you staring at her while she’s taking off her shirt?” theodore said, looking over his shoulder. “might as well tattoo ‘pervert’ on your fuckin’ forehead and let the whole neighborhood know.” mattheo just shrugged, biting the inside of his cheek as he glanced once more toward the window.
“don’t know,” he said. “some girls love that shit.” theodore exhaled sharply through his nose. he was done. done trying to reason with a walking hormone in human form. “get to bed,” he muttered, rubbing the bridge of his nose. “you’re speaking with your dick again.”
mattheo chuckled, stepping closer to theo and giving him a playful shove to the chest. it wasn’t hard, more of a nudge, but it earned a shove right back.
that shove earned mattheo’s full attention: a harsh push to theodore’s shoulder that made him stumble back a step. without hesitation, theo shoved him again, harder this time. mattheo huffed. he’d always been a sucker for a good play fight, the kind that started as a joke but never stayed that way for too long. and the second theodore turned his back to brush him off, mattheo lunged.
he tackled him around the middle, dragging him down to the floor. the impact sent theodore crashing onto the floor with a thud, his back hitting the wooden floor beneath it as a grunt escaped his chest. “you fucker-” theodore cracked, trying to twist out from under him. but mattheo was already trying to pin him, arms locked around theodore’s shoulders.
in the fight, theo shoved at mattheo’s head with one palm, trying to push him off. his fingers caught the side of mattheo’s head, forcing him sideways — too far. the motion sent mattheo’s skull colliding with the edge of the desk beside them.
“asshole,” mattheo muttered under his breath, he rubbed the spot where his head had hit the desk, slowly pushing himself up before giving theodore a light kick in the ribs with the toe of his shoe before disappearing out the door with a dramatic slam that rattled the frame.
theo rolled his blue eyes and stood up. mattheo had been living at the nott manor for nearly six months now, but he still spent more time in theodore’s room than his own. no matter how many guest rooms the home had, he always ended up across theo’s bed, in his desk chair, or raiding his bookshelf.
theo thinks it’s because his room has always felt more like home than anywhere else. when they were kids, they rarely hung out in the guest rooms. those spaces were too too quiet, meant for people who didn’t stay. theo’s had history. it had laughter ghosting into the walls, secrets in the closet. back then, when life felt fresh, before things got complicated, before people started drifting: they all used to cram into his room without a second thought.
pansy would sprawl across his bed, flipping through magazines and rolling her eyes at draco’s ‘girly’ commentary. blaise would sit on the floor, leaning against the dresser, legs stretched out. enzo always found the window seat, sketchbook in hand, not listening to the talk around him.
mattheo was everywhere. on the bed, on the floor, by the door. moving constantly: he was trying to soak in every second of it. theo’s room held their shared growth. the jokes, the fights, the long talks that happened when the lights were out and no one wanted to be the first to fall asleep. even now, theo can still hear the echoes of it when he steps inside. maybe that’s why he feels more at peace there than anywhere else: a place with the memory of his happiest days, when they were all together.
theodore walked over to the window, and reached for the curtains, he hated sleeping with them open. the way outside lights bled into his room always messed with his sleep, casting odd shapes on the walls and waking him up at stupid hours.
just as he grabbed the fabric, something caught his eye. you had just stepped out of the shower, the steam still curling around you. a towel was slung loosely around your body, clinging to your damp skin, the fabric darkened in places where water still kissed your flesh. your hair was wet, heavy with moisture, dark strands sticking to your shoulders and framing your face.
theodore paused the moment he saw you. he watched, completely helpless as a bead of water traced a slow path down the slope of your collarbone, disappearing beneath the edge of your towel.
he swallowed, feeling the back of his throat burn, blinking twice as if to make sure he wasn’t hallucinating. every instinct in him choosing between looking away out of respect and drinking in the sight of you: wrapped in nothing but a bit of fabric.
the towel slipped from your body, falling to the floor soundlessly. theo’s breath hitched the second the fabric fell, revealing every inch of your bare skin. his lips parted without him realizing, gaze caught immediately on your breasts: perfectly perky—and pierced. the silver flash of the jewelry against your skin made his head spin.
he should’ve looked away. fuck, he knew that. he should’ve snapped the curtains shut the moment he saw you walk in, dripping wet from your shower, towel barely clinging to you. he should’ve thrown himself into bed, buried his head under the covers, forced himself to pretend he hadn’t seen anything.
you didn’t bother getting dressed. still naked, you crossed the room without a hint of shame, water on your skin as if you were dipped in moonlight. with a small hop, you climbed onto your bed, body completely exposed from where theodore stood frozen by his window. he watched you move, comfortable in your own skin. the way you shifted around on the mattress, adjusting your pillows, tossing them this way and that way without a care in the world. you were putting on a show without even realizing it, every twist of your hips, every stretch of your arms offering him a new angle to memorize, to burn into the back of his eyelids forever.
once you finally settled, your back sank into the sheets, muscles relaxing into the mattress. the soft cloth cradled you, hugging every dip and curve. theo’s chest rose and fell unevenly, unable to look away as your pierced nipples stood tight and hard, pointing up toward the ceiling. the silver jewelry small and beautiful on you.
you trailed your right hand down, fingertips dancing lazily over your breast, nails scratching slightly across the sensitive skin. lower and lower you went, dragging those fingers over the smooth, freshly shaved skin of your lower stomach, your body arching just slightly into your own touch.
he could see everything: the way your breathing deepened, the way your thighs shifted apart the ever so slightest, welcoming yourself home. with a roll of your wrist, you dipped your hand even lower, your index finger brushing gently over the swollen mound of your clit.
theo couldn’t move, couldn’t even think as he watched you spread yourself out across the bed, knees bent and falling open, giving him a full view of everything. your skin practically glowed, a leftover dampness still clinging to your body. your fingers, those delicate fingers moved lazy strokes over your clit. his stomach tightened painfully, a low heat coiling in his gut. he watched as you dragged the tip of your finger in circles, the movement so soft it was almost teasing yourself, building your own tension.
you tilted your head back slightly, letting your teeth sink into your bottom lip. he didn’t know if you were trying to muffle your sounds or if it was some subconscious need to savor the pressure, but either way, it didn’t matter. all thoughts that made sense abandoned in favor of the desperate need flooding his body.
everything he was feeling, every throb of want, every spike of lust, every dizzying pull toward you seemed to rush straight down to his dick, swelling painfully against his sweats. you moved, hips rolling up into your own touch, adding more pressure. with the kind of slowwww that made theodore’s vision blur at the edges, you pushed a finger deep inside yourself. “mmph
”
the sound you made punched the air right out of theodore’s lungs. it wasn’t loud, but it didn’t need to be. whether you had meant it to be heard or not, it banged through him, making his entire body clench and his cock harden so fast it hurt. he squeezed his eyes shut for half a second, trying and failing to gather himself. but the second he opened them again, you rewarded him with an even filthier sight.
another finger joined the first, stretching you wider, making your hips rock slightly against your hand. you moved them in and out, out and in, fingers disappearing into the heat of your pussy, coated in the evidence of your own wetness. theo’s ears were ringing, too consumed by the sight of your hand moving, of your body writhing slightly against the sheets, of your thighs trembling as you fucked yourself open.
your eyebrows pulled together, forehead creasing in that beautiful, desperate way as your pleasure built. gasping sounds slipping free without a hint of restraint. the movements of your fingers grew faster, your hips subtly chasing every stroke, your thighs trembling with the effort to stay open. theodore’s eyes devoured you. every detail. every breath.
he noticed everything: the way your right breast, slightly pressed to the side by the movement of your arm, causing the piercing threaded through your nipple to poke out at a perfect angle. theo felt a an aching need crash through him, a hunger to have it between his teeth, to feel the cold shock of metal against his hot tongue, to suck and tug and soothe until you were gasping even harder beneath him.
his hand gripped the windowsill so tightly his knuckles turned white. he stared hard, breath fogging up the small corner of glass before him, matching the uneven, shuddering breathing of yours. every squeaky whimper, every hitch of your hips, every sound of your fingers plunging deep into your own body buried itself into his mind.
you came with a cry, legs quaking around your hand. your face softened in the aftermath, a look of pure bliss taking over your beautiful features: lips parted, lashes fluttering against flushed cheeks.
with a violent jerk, theo closed the blinds, the snap of the cord sounding too loud in the silence of his room. he stumbled back a step, chest heaving, staring down in disbelief at the painful boner against his sweats. he dragged a shaking hand through his hair, cursing under his breath. he felt like a damn teenager again, seeing boobs for the first time on a crumpled magazine page he wasn’t supposed to have.
Tumblr media
“you think she’d like this?” mattheo asked, holding the dress up between his fingers. he rubbed the fabric between his thumb and forefinger, raising an eyebrow. “she’s always fuckin’ talking about wanting dresses with this kind of fabric. all soft and shit.”
it had become a routine, one theo never spoke about, even to himself. every day, he found his feet carrying him to the same spot: the window in the far corner of his room, the one that offered a perfect view into yours. from there, he could see you through the soft cover of curtains that you always forget, or maybe just didn’t care, to close.
most days, you were alone. reading, usually. sometimes curled on your side with a blanket pulled up to your waist, the bedside lamp illuminating your face. other times, you were cross legged in the center of your bed, a book propped open against your knees, mouthing the words silently as your fingers absentmindedly traced the dog eared page corners. sometimes, you’d bring a friend over, usually a girl with a laugh too loud. you’d lounge across your bed together, heads bent over the edge of your bed, your body loose with comfort.
theodore would watch. you’d become his obsession without even trying. he told himself it was nothing. that it would pass. that if he just kept watching from afar, the pull in his chest would ease. but it never did.
what made it so much fucking worse, what twisted the blade in deeper, was the guilt. not just the guilt of watching you when he shouldn’t have, but the guilt that grew the day he saw you kiss someone else. the day he realized it wasn’t just someone.
it was mattheo. theo hadn’t known. not even a hint. mattheo told him everything, or so he thought. they’d been friends for years, bonded by too many fights and drunken nights and secrets they weren’t proud of. every hookup. every fling. every girl who’d passed through mattheo’s bed had been a joke, something to laugh about the next morning.
not this time. theodore had been standing at the window like he always did, eyes drifting toward your room. you were sitting cross legged on your bed, a paperback open in your lap, your hair loose and slightly messy like you’d just woken from a nap. you were turning a page when the door to your room opened, and theodore’s heart gave a confused lurch: mattheo stepped in. like it was normal. like it was his place to be.
theo had watched, body frozen except for the slow tightening in his jaw. mattheo didn’t say anything. as if he didn’t need to. he just crossed the room with that confidence he always carried, tossed his hoodie on the chair by your desk, and leaned down. as if this was a routine, pressing his mouth to yours in a kiss that was far too comfortable. your hands slid up into his hair and kissed him back, like you’d done it a hundred times before.
theo just stood there, staring with furrowed brows. the silence of his room made everything worse, the way your lips moved, the curve of your smile against mattheo’s mouth. he watched as his best friend slid his hands beneath the hem of your shirt, slowly pushing the fabric upward, revealing the bare of your waist, the lump of your breasts, the metal piercings theodore had spent countless nights dreaming about tasting with his own tongue.
and when mattheo came back from your house that night, theodore couldn’t stop himself from prying. working around the edges of the conversation like trying to defuse a bomb without knowing which wire to cut, asking the kind of casual questions that wouldn’t make him seem desperate to know.
eventually, however, mattheo cracked. laughing under his breath, running a hand through his curls: told theo that the two of you had been sneaking around together for about five weeks now, slipping in and out of each other’s beds, pretending the fire between you wasn’t setting blaze to everything it touched. and just like fuckin’ that, theodore felt stupid.
he sat there, nodding along like an idiot, pretending to find it funny, pretending he wasn’t shattering apart piece by piece inside. because all those nights he’d been standing at his window, staring at you like some fool, you’d already been his. mattheo’s hands had already mapped the curves theo could only dream about touching; his mouth had already tasted the skin theo ached to claim.
of course. of course that was why your curtains were drawn most nights now, blocking theo out.
regardless, even after theo found out you were dating mattheo, the acknowledgment hadn’t been enough to pry him away from that damn window. it should’ve been. god, it should’ve been. but how could he stop? you were still there, every day, existing just on the other side of the glass. gorgeous. the thought that you belonged to someone else now, that you were mattheo’s, should’ve made it feel wrong. and it did. it absolutely did. but that shame came with something addictive. the twisted thrill of watching something he could never have, of seeing you laugh or stretch or curl beneath your sheets in the early morning, knowing you were his best friend’s girl.
“no clue. you’re the boyfriend,” theo muttered, eyes scanning the hang of a sundress mattheo had plucked from a display rack in some dress shop. a pale blue thing, the kind of dress that would fall just below your thighs and hug your waist. theodore didn’t want to picture you in it, but of course, he did. he could already see it: you standing barefoot in your bedroom, spinning just slightly in front of the mirror, fingertips brushing down the fabric. or worse—he imagined it sliding down your shoulders, puddling around your ankles as mattheo stepped toward you with that smirk he wore when he knew he was about to get lucky.
“have to get it for her,” riddle said, holding the dress up. “she’d look fuckin’ amazing.”
theo stayed quiet. watched as mattheo strutted up to the front desk, tossing the dress gently onto the counter. the woman behind the register gave a soft smile, eyes flicking up to riddle. theo could make out the exchange from a few steps back, hearing the cashier ask, “for your girl?” with a teasing smile. mattheo’s curls bounced as he nodded and said something that made her giggle. some stupid line, no doubt.
theodore had never been the jealous type. anything he wanted, he got, usually without even having to ask. but people always want what they can’t have. and theodore wanted you. wanted you soooo badly in a way that ate at the open places inside him he hadn’t even realized were empty.
mattheo strolled back, confidence in every step, a small black bag dangling effortlessly off his ring finger like it weighed nothing, catching on the silver rings he always wore. his grin was all teeth. “let’s go,” he said, tilting his head toward the street. theo didn’t trust himself to speak, not when his head was a hurricane of thoughts that had no business being there. he kept his hands shoved in his pockets, eyes on the ground, his jaw tight as he tried to walk off the jealousy clawing at his ribs. it was stupid, he knew.
by the time they reached home, the sky was a shade of indigo. theo didn’t wait around — the front door had barely clicked shut behind them when he was already climbing the stairs two at a time, footsteps heavy on the wood. he didn’t even glance back.
mattheo didn’t follow. turning on his heel and heading right back out the door, toward your place. theo caught it from the top of the stairs: the quick jingle of keys, the door creaking open again, the soft click as it closed behind him. theo stood there, hand still on the banister, lips parted like he might call out — tell him to wait, to stay, to go fuck himself. but nothing came out. what was he going to say anyway? don’t go see her? mattheo would’ve just laughed. that cocky laugh that always made theo feel two inches shorter. he’d say something like, “jealous?” with that tilt of his head, and then walk out anyway. so theo let him go. let him take that damn bag of whatever he bought you, let him walk right into your space, right into your home, into the warmth that wasn’t his to want.
who the hell was theo to protest? he went straight to his room, peeled off his jacket, and crawled under the covers fully clothed. the sheets were cool against his skin, but it didn’t soothe anything. the drinks he’d had earlier sat heavy in his stomach — not enough to make him dizzy, but enough to make everything feel just a little off. he hoped they’d knock him out. that sleep would come quick.
it didn’t. he lay flat on his back, one arm flung over his eyes to block out the thoughts, but they came anyway. he counted the cracks in the ceiling. focused on the soft tick of the old clock on his dresser. on the way the wind brushed against the window, rattling the glass every so often.
"mm... ugh."
theodore jolted upright, ears straining like an animal catching the faintest scent of a target. had he heard that right? he thought he was imagining it, but then he heard it again, clearer this time. “yes
 augh, yes
” desperate.
he would have known those sounds anywhere. those pretty little squeal of a moan that slipped from your mouth. he’d spent many nights pressed against the windowsill, watching you with your curtains drawn open just wide enough, seeing the way your body moved beneath your own touch. each quiet gasp, each whimper had been burned into him. engraved so deep inside his mind that even now, with nothing but the sound of your voice to guide him, he could see it all: the way your lashes fluttered, the way your fingers moved, the way your back arched off the mattress as you chased your own pleasure.
theo tossed aside his blanket and swung his legs over the edge of the bed. pushing himself up with his arms, he began walking toward the window. it was already open, though the curtains were drawn. grabbing them at the center where outside light peeked through, he yanked them open.
your bare back faced the glass. mattheo lay stretched out beneath you, his dark curls a mess against your pink silk pillows, his chest rising and falling in uneven breaths. your nails: painted a perfect, glossy white, the edge of your french tips scratched lightly over the broad of mattheo’s chest, leaving red trails. every movement you made was sluggish, lifting your hips, rolling them with a rhythm that made mattheo’s fingers dig deeper into your skin, leaving bruises theo could already see forming along your hips.
his best friends hands clutched you, urging you to move faster, so much harder, needing more.
you leaned down, your spine arching in a curve, and pressed a line of tongue mouthed kisses along the side of mattheo’s neck: hungry kisses that spoke of intimacy theo had never been allowed to taste. he watched you part your lips against mattheo’s throat, tasting the salt on his tan skin, heard the low groan mattheo let out as you continued to ground your hips down.
theo bit down so hard on his own cheek he tasted blood. his cock was hurting against his sweats, but he didn’t dare move, didn’t dare breathe, terrified he’d miss a second.
mattheo’s hands slid from your hips to the plush of your ass. his fingers digging into the meat, squeezing with a grasp that made your body jolt slightly against him. with rough strength, mattheo lifted you just enough to adjust the angle between you, guiding you down again. until you took every inch of him, your bodies fitting together like two broken pieces of the same shattered thing.
theo saw the way your head tipped forward, a moan falling from your lips: the sound sooo soft, vibrating against mattheo’s throat where you kissed him, your lips dragging across his pulse point. fingers curled against mattheo’s chest for balance, the rock of your hips as you rode him faster.
mattheo’s cock drove into you, the swollen head bumping against your g-spot with each thrust.
theodore could see it, could feel it, just by the way your body reacted. every time you lifted your hips, your thighs quivered, your back arching in those beautiful little spasms you couldn’t control.
but frustration simmered just beneath the heat because you were facing away from him, the smooth curve of your back blocking the view he craved most: he’d always loved watching the way your pierced nipples caught his full attention, how the metal glinted as your chest rose with every breath. and now it was hidden from him, kept secret while mattheo got to touch it, taste it.
each grind of mattheo’s hips had your body jolting forward, theodore knew, knew that the thick veins along his best friend’s cock were dragging against your squishy walls, stroking you just right. the way your body melted against his, the way your mouth parted in gasps said everything. your wetness coating him, making every thrust sticky, the lewd squelching sound loud enough that theo could almost hear it through the damn glass.
theo’s dick was throbbing painfully against his jeans, hard as fuck. he hated himself for it. hated that he couldn’t look away. hated that you were right there, split open for someone else, and he couldn’t touch you.
a sound clawed its way from theo’s throat as he shoved his hand into his pants. the first cold brush of his fingertips against his cock tore a choked gasp from him, body jerking against the window. he wrapped his hand around himself in a punishing hold, stroking, as if he could tear the want out of his body by force alone.
“fuckin’ look at yourself,” theodore heard mattheo. you whimpered, head falling back, the ends of your hair grazing over his best friends thighs.
theo fisted himself harder, his eyes on the curve of your back to your golden hoops — in his mind, he saw it clearly: the tattoo beneath your right breast, the one he wanted to mouth, to bite, to worship until you sobbed his name. he imagined it was his cock buried deep inside you, his hands tangled in your hair, your voice breaking as you screamed for him.
that alone made the coil inside theo snap: a release that yanked a whine from his throat. his fingers pinched instinctively, milking every last pulse of hot, desperate seed into his palm. his body jerking against the windowpane, trembling as wave after wave of pleasure ripped through him. the glass against his forehead blurred and fogged with his stuttering breath, but he barely noticed, lost to the absolute high of it.
however, he was instantly flooded with embarrassment at how quickly he had come, all from just the simple sight of his best friend and you.
Tumblr media
“oh, come on, nott. it’s my girl’s fuckin’ birthday,” mattheo said, annoyed. pleading as he leaned heavily against the edge of theo’s bedroom window, arms crossed tight over his chest. his chocolate eyes moved between his friend and the view just beyond the glass, where you sat at your vanity, running your fingers through your hair. “pansy and her girlfriend are already there,” he continued, yanking his head toward the sound of laughter and music starting to rise.
“draco, enzo, blaise—everyone’s waiting. it’s going to be weird as fuck if you don’t show up.”
theo didn’t look up. he remained at his desk, wiping it down with a soft cloth like he did nearly every evening. no matter how often he cleaned, it somehow managed to look messier by the next morning. what mattheo didn’t say, but knew, was that theodore’s desk sat in the perfect spot, positioned just below the large window that framed a direct view into your room. from where he stood, theo could see everything. the setup wasn’t intentional, it had been that way since before either of them could remember. his desk had always been there, longggg before he realized what that window actually offered.
“don’t feel like it,” theodore replied, barely looking up from where he was running his cloth in circles across the surface of his desk. “barely even know the woman,” he added with a shrug.
he didn’t know you, not in the way people usually mean when they talk about getting to know someone. he didn’t know your favorite color, or what kind of movies you liked, or whether you bit your nails when you were nervous. but he knew what your body looked like beneath soft silk and tight cotton. he knew the way your lips parted and your head tilted back when you were chasing pleasure, whether it was under someone else’s touch or your own. he’d never heard your voice in conversation, but he’d heard it in squeaky moans carried through open windows.
mattheo exhaled loudly, dragging a hand down his face before turning back toward the window. “exactly,” he said, gesturing toward the sight of you. “you don’t know her. so m’trying to fix that. my two favorite people don’t even know each other, theo. that’s messed up.” that made theodore pause. he turned his head, giving a sideways glance at mattheo. his best friend wasn’t even looking at him, his gaze had returned to the window, locked on you.
curious despite himself, theo followed his best friend’s line of sight. you were sitting at the edge of your vanity chair, legs crossed, applying a final coat of lip gloss. your hair was half up, curls falling down your back like warm honey. the dress you wore, silky where it hugged your hips: the one mattheo had bought for you last week.
you looked gorgeous. too stunning. and somehow theo’s eyes weren’t drawn to the usual things. his attention caught on the tiniest details: the shimmer of body oil on your collarbone. the way your earring swung each time your head tilted. and, because he couldn’t help it, the outline of the piercings on your breasts, barely visible through the thin material of the dress, but justtttt enough to be noticed if someone was looking closely.
“not in the mood to party anyway.” the words were simple, tossed out casually as theo leaned back in his chair, fingertips tapping lightly against the edge of his desk. but the second they left his mouth, mattheo’s head snapped around like he’d been slapped. “not in the mood to party?” he repeated, disbelief in his voice.
mattheo had known theo since they were kids, since scraped knees to the stolen bottles of alcohol behind the castle. if there was one thing he could count on, it was that theodore nott never missed a party. not for exams, not for breakups, not even for detention. the boy lived for chaos, for loud music and dancing girls and a drink in each hand. so this didn’t make sense. “who are you, and what the fuck did you do to my best friend?” he asked. “seriously, tell him i want him back.”
nott rolled his eyes but couldn’t stop the small smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth. he shook his head and stood up slowly, stretching before he leaned his weight against the desk. “i’m serious,” he said. “go have fun with your girl. it’s her fuckin’ birthday, just tell her i said happy birthday, yeah?” but even as he spoke, even as he tried to sound uninterested, theo’s eyes wandered back to the window. back to you. still seated at your vanity, fastening the tiny clasp of a necklace around your neck, brushing the curve of your collarbone as you adjusted it.
theo couldn’t go to that party. he wouldn’t. if he saw you and mattheo together, up close, arms around each other, eyes locked in that way that only couples do. he wouldn’t be able to handle it. he’d pretend, obviously. theo was good at pretending. he’d lean against the wall with a drink in hand and wear that handsome grin. but the whole time, he’d be watching you. watching him with you. watching you with him. it would tear him apart.
you were already irresistible when seen through a window. but up close? with that perfume he’d caught traces of in the hallway? with your laugh in his ears instead of muffled through glass? he’d lose his mind.
mattheo bit the inside of his cheek. he hated this. hated the feeling of walking away from something that was supposed to be fun, that was supposed to include everyone he cared about. he and theo had done everything together since they were eleven: first smokes, first fights, first girls, first heartbreaks. there wasn’t a memory worth keeping that didn’t have nott’s name scribbled somewhere in the corner of it. and now, on a night that mattered. his girlfriend’s night, your night, mattheo couldn’t help but feel wrong leaving him behind.
however, mattheo knew better than to argue. if theo said he didn’t feel like partying, then dragging him out would be a lost cause. the fucker was more stubborn than anyone he’d ever met. once he was set in a direction, you’d break your legs trying to turn him around.
letting out an exhale through his nose. “alright,” mattheo said finally, turning toward the door, disappointment dragging at his voice. “if you change your mind, the party’s next door. you know where to find us.” theo gave a nod, already turning his back on his best friend. behind him, he heard the sigh mattheo always gave when he was pretending not to care, followed by the slow creak of the bedroom door opening, closing, then fading footsteps down the hallway.
the moment he knew he was alone, theo turned around. he didn’t even try to hide it anymore. his gaze went straight to your window.
you were standing now, having just risen from your vanity chair. the hem of your dress settled around your thighs as you reached for your perfume, spritzing a small cloud into the air before stepping through it, letting it kiss your skin.
your hands smoothed down the fabric of your dress once more as you took a final look in the mirror, brushing a curl of hair behind your ear. theo watched as you grabbed your little clutch bag. paused at the frame for just a second, looking back, maybe to check your reflection one last time, maybe just thinking—and then disappeared from view.
of all the people theo could’ve become obsessed with, why did it have to be you? why did it have to be his best friend’s girlfriend? the one girl he couldn’t have, the one person who should’ve been completely off limits. obsession didn’t even feel like the right word anymore. it was deeper than that.
when this all started, when theo first saw you touching yourself, you weren’t even with mattheo. he remembered that night vividly: down to the way you were lying back, lips parted, chest rising and falling with every desperate sound you let out. your hand was slow between your thighs, and the look on your face was tattooed into his mind permanently.
what if he’d moved first? what if he hadn’t stayed silent, hadn’t given mattheo time to get close to you? would you have looked at him the way you look at his best friend now? would you have let him touch you until you were trembling, maybe even crying from how good he’d make you feel? would you have let him ruin you in all the ways he dreamed of?
oh, could’ve, should’ve, fuckin’ would’ve. but the most twisted, most fucked part of it all: theo had only grown more obsessed after finding out you and mattheo were together. he couldn’t explain it. something about seeing the two of you wrapped up in each other, giving and taking pleasure so lovingly, cracked him open in ways he didn’t even want to name.
just like mattheo had said, his two favorite people. you and mattheo: two people theo is utterly obsessed with — had found each other. the two people theo loved to watch, to crave for, had somehow ended up in a relationship.
god, he loved it. he loved when his best friend came back smelling like you: the sweetness of your skin, raw scent of sex still sticking to him. he loved knowing you had made mattheo feel so good that he’d finally settled, finally stayed in a relationship.
theo loved it. loved that if it couldn’t be him wrecking you, worshiping you, making you come on his cock so deliciously, at least it was his best friend. if he wasn’t the one making mattheo’s eyes flutter shut in pleasure, you were. he tried to deny it — every part of him convinced that he was just jealous because mattheo had you. but the truth was more twisted: he was jealous because you had mattheo too.
theo blinked hard, over and over, as if it would somehow erase the thoughts that had taken inside his mind. thoughts so bizarre, so fucked, they didn’t even feel like they belonged to him. his chest felt tight, his skin too hot. he pushed himself up from his desk chair, the legs scraping roughly against the wood floor, and stalked toward the bathroom. he slid open the shower door with a clatter, the sound echoing in the tiled space, and twisted the faucet on full blast toward freezing cold. the pipes making a shuddering sound as he tore at his clothes: stripping his shirt off over his head, kicking his pants down in one tug, leaving a trail of garments behind him like he couldn’t get them off fast enough.
the moment he stepped beneath the icy spray, the shock of it hit him instantly. theo hissed through his teeth, bowing his head as the water tickled down his overheated skin, soaking his hair, dragging goosebumps across his frame. he leaned a palm against the cold tile, his other hand curling briefly into a fist at his side as he forced himself to stand there, to let the freezing water do its brutal work.
the arousal he’d gotten, just from the vivid thought of his two favorite people tangled up in pleasure, so good for him — fucked him up.
he stayed there longer than necessary, shampooing his hair, scrubbing his body hard enough to turn his skin red. as if he could wash the images out of his mind along with the sweat from his skin. when he finally shut off the faucet, the silence was instant. water dripped from his hair, trailing down his spine as he reached for a towel. he wrapped it low around his hips, the cotton scratching at his skin, and wiped a hand across the fogged mirror without bothering to really look at himself.
he grabbed a handful of cotton swabs, poking one into his ear, not yet swishing it around. with the other hand, he reached for his toothbrush, squeezing a quick line of mint toothpaste across the bristles before jamming it into his mouth.
theo stepped back into his room, still brushing his teeth, however: he stopped dead in his tracks. the sight before him instinctively made him stumble back a step, his heel catching on the edge of the rug. the toothbrush slipped from the corner of his mouth, hanging awkwardly. “what ttthe—” he mumbled, his voice barely hearable through the toothpaste foam.
he spun around and rushed back into the bathroom. the faucet screeching as he turned it back on with clumsy fingers, quickly bringing his mouth down to gather water. he swished, then spat it out, gripping the sides of the sink to steady himself for a second before straightening up. his eyes searched his reflection in the mirror, as if to confirm he wasn’t losing his grip on reality. then he stepped back out into his room.
you were standing near the foot of his bed, wearing that dress, it looked even more stunning up close. one thin strap had slipped down your shoulder, exposing more skin that seemed intentional
or maybe it was intentional. you tilted your head slightly. “rude of me not to announce myself, i know,” it was the first time he'd heard your voice in a complete sentence, and he was already captivated by it. “but you were in the shower, and i didn’t want to interrupt.”
theo just stared at you, his brain struggling to catch up. he blinked once. then again. and again, expecting you to disappear like some strange dream.
his voice came out lower than usual, cracking embarrassingly. “where’s matt
heo?” his gaze darted briefly around the room, expecting his friend to appear from behind the curtain or the closet door. if you were here, then surely mattheo couldn’t be far behind.
“he actually sent me,” you said, lifting the keys you still had clutched awkwardly in your hand, as if they somehow validated your presence. “said you
 uh
had condoms.” theo almost chuckled at how shy you got just saying the word condoms. sweet thing. if only you knew how much he had already seen, how much he had already imagined. his blue eyes dragged over you, barely suppressing the smirk that tugged at the corner of his mouth.
“yeah?” he exhaled, turning away, crossing the room. his towel sat low on his hips, the damp fabric wrapped around the cut of his waist. every step he took made it shift dangerously. you stayed frozen by his bed, trying very hard not to look: failing miserably.
theo crouched down in front of his dresser, yanking open the bottom drawer. it creaked, revealing a mess of old things: wrinkled shirts, an empty box of mints, and underneath it all, a few leftover condoms from an ex-girlfriend.
he grabbed three without thinking, large hands checking the slim foil wrappers, and walked back toward you. the condoms dangled casually from his fingers as he extended his hand out: just close enough for you to reach. your hand was halfway there when theo snatched them back.
“you know how to put them on, right?” you lifted your gaze up at him through your lashes, lips parting slightly like you wanted to say something but couldn’t quite find the words. and theo, all bare in front of you, save for the thin strip of towel slung dangerously low around his hips. the shape of him barely covered the way your thighs instinctively pressed together.
you shook your head. theo could’ve groaned at the sight. he already knew, obviously. knew you and mattheo didn’t use condoms, his best friend had always been stubborn about it, even back at school, bragging about how he hated the “killjoy” of it. the number of plan b boxes theo had seen mattheo toss into his bag over the years only confirmed it: it was even worse now that he had you.
regardless, knowing it was your birthday, theo was certain mattheo wasn’t going to stop at just one round. not a fuckin’ chance. shit, knowing his friend, he’d probably go as many rounds as the number you were turning, determined to fuck you until you couldn’t even remember how old you were.
these were mandatory.
“want me to show you?” theo asked, the words slipping out before he could think better of them. he knew. fuck, he knew — this could either go insanely wrong or exactly how he’d fantasized a hundred times in the guilty corners of his mind. the moment the question was said, your pretty lips parted, eyes blinking up at him with disbelief. theodore couldn’t blame you, your boyfriend’s best friend had just asked if you wanted him to show you how to put on a condom.
silence pulled between you. theo’s stomach twisted, a thread of doubt shredding through the daze of heat blurring his mind. he thought about taking it back, covering it up with a laugh, pretending it was a joke, anything to save face.
“yes,” you breathed. so sickly sure. the single word dip into him like a match to gasoline.
theo’s pulse pounded loud in his ears as he moved to sit on the edge of his bed. he ran a hand through his damp hair, pretending to be okay, but every nerve in his body was tickling. he gestured for you to sit beside him, hand loose in the air, but his entire body felt tense. you obeyed without hesitation, shy as you perched on the mattress next to him. so fucking obedient. so fucking tempting.
he let the towel fall from his hips with a flick of his fingers, letting it pool on the bed. your breath caught. fully bared in front of you, was theo’s dick: an angry red at the tip, straining up at full attention. all from the simple sight of you sitting there, looking so shy and sweet in that little dress mattheo had bought you.
you swallowed, throat bobbing with the effort. your body shifting almost unconsciously on the bed: thighs pressing together, hands clenching into the fabric of the comforter beneath you. you couldn’t stop looking at him, at all. that gorgeous, heavy heat standing between his hips. theo’s mouth tilted into a smile at your reaction, but his voice stayed rough around the edges, when he said, “don’t open it with your teeth. could accidentally rip it. then it won’t work.”
you nodded, completely focused on him. on what he was doing. on how he was doing it.
he tore the wrapper open with his hands, the foil crinkling. he plucked the condom from the packet, letting it spread slightly between his fingertips. “it’s a little wet,” theo murmured, his accent peaking through due to nerves. “you have make sure it doesn’t slip through your pretty little fingers.” the way he said it, your pretty little fingers, made your entire body hot. you couldn’t tear your eyes away as he lined the condom carefully with the head of his cock, making sure it was angled just right before slowly rolling it down.
the latex slapped onto his skin, catching every vein, every impossible inch that had you pressing your thighs even tighter together. “just like that.” you bit down hard on the inside of your cheek to keep from making some humiliating sound right there on the bed. your hands squeezed tighter in your lap, thighs trembling from the effort of staying still.
“can i
 can i try?”
theo was about to nod, maybe crack a joke about grabbing a banana or something less dangerous, but you shook your head quickly, moving forward on the bed before lifting a manicured hand to stop him. “i mean
on you,” you said. “can i try
 on you?”
theo genuinely thought he was on the verge of passing out. your words ricocheted around his mind, hitting every nerve. his heart was pounding so loud it was all he could hear, he wondered if you could hear it too. nott gobbled down his saliva, fingers a little shaky now as he grabbed one of the extra condoms from where he’d tossed them on the bed. his hand brushed yours when he passed it over, your manicured nails scratched slightly against the rough pads of his fingers as you took the foil packet from him.
he forced himself to move, peeling off the condom he’d already put on, tossed it into the small trashcan by his desk.
you tore open the foil carefully, trying not to rush, your bottom lip caught between your teeth in concentration. when you slid the condom out, you held it up between your fingers. “you weren’t wrong,” you said, giving him a shy glance from under your lashes. “it’s
 really wet.”
his cock twitched, visibly, at the sound of your voice, at the sight of you sitting there so pretty. you turned slightly to face him, holding the condom between your fingers. theo had to clench his fists into the mattress to stop himself from reaching for you. you were so close now that the scent of your shampoo mixed with the smell of latex was starting to become theo’s new favorite scent.
he observed, almost in slow motion, as you lined the condom up with the tip of his dick, so carefully he found it cute. and started to roll it down over him.
the first brush of your nails against his cock had theo’s thighs tensing, an involuntary jerk of his hips that he quickly bit back. you were trying so hard to be gentle, to be careful, your eyes flickering up to his face every few seconds for approval. “like that?” you whisper, voice barely hearable over the ringing in his ears. you were so close that when you tilted your chin to look at him, the slightest movement brought your face right near his: breath sweet, brushing across the tip of his nose. theo thought he might actually lose his mind. his dick throbbed against your palm, and it took every control he had not to thrust into your hand and wreck every bit of innocence still in the room.
“just like that,” theo rasped. he cleared his throat roughly, trying to ground himself, to wrestle back the thin shred of control slipping through his fingers. he was about to hook a finger under the rolled latex and slide it off, end this insanity before it went any further. when your hand shot out and stopped him, fingers brushing his wrist.
“wait,” eyes wide and questioning, locked onto his. “what about
if it’s filled?” you asked, cheeks flushing at the bluntness of your own words. “how do i remove it without any of the
 juices spilling inside me?”
thrown off by how sweetly filthy that question sounded coming from your mouth. theo licked his lips slowly, mind racing, what to do. because the images flashing behind his eyes were downright dirty. he should have just explained it easily — but instead a far darker thought came to mind a sick, sick thought. one he didn’t have the power to resist.
theo reached out, his fingers brushing along your bare shoulder where the strap of your dress had slipped down. he caught the strap between two fingers and lifted it gently, sliding it back into place, his knuckles skimming your heated skin in the process. the soft prickle raising across your skin in visible waves. his fingers stayed a second too long, memorizing the warmth radiating off your body, before he forced himself to pull away.
“i’d show you
but it’s more of a visual lesson.” a smile tugged at your mouth, and you leaned in, just enough that theo could see the lust in your eyes. “good thing i’m a visual learner.” the condom still slapped over his cock stretched as he grew even harder. something he hadn’t thought physically possible until now.
“oh, i believe you,” theo muttered, he nodded toward the two empty condom wrappers on the mattress, to show how very serious you both were taking this ‘lesson.’ he adjusted himself on the bed, settling more toward the middle to give you both more room. “let me just-” he started, reaching for himself, intending to stroke his cock and mimic how the condom would fill. however, before his fingers could even brush his hardened dick, you stopped him.
“i have a better idea,” you said, syrupy sweet. “to get the full experience.” theo blinked at you, confused, until you rose up from where you were sitting beside him. you swung a leg over him, straddling his hips, and his heart just about stopped.
the thin material of your underwear brushed over the sensitive head of his dick, and theo had to bite back a sound. a pathetic noise that scratched up his throat. he could already feel it, could already feel himself on the verge, and you hadn’t even taken him inside yet.
“always have to be sure
” theo’s voice weakened. you gave him a look, that sexy look and slipped your fingers down between your legs, hooking into the side of your panties. you dragged the fabric aside, exposing yourself to him, and theo’s mouth actually watered.
you reached between your bodies, your hand wrapping around the base of him. theodore nearly jolted at just that, your fingers, so warm wrapping around him. “for learning purposes,” you said softly, locking eyes with him. for learning purposes. you lifted yourself up a bit, lining him up with your entrance, and theo could barely believe this was real. he was finally going to touch you, finally going to make you feel so unbelievably good, just like he’d imagined far too many times. then slowly, soooo slowly, you started to sink down.
the head of his red, angry dick disappeared into the squishy walls inside you. theo whimpered instantly, an embarrassingly wrecked sound that slipped out through his nose and clenched teeth. this was the same position you’d been in when he watched you and mattheo through the window, your back to him, making his best friend fall apart under your touch. only now, you were on top of theo, and he could still smell your boyfriend on your skin. he could still smell mattheo on you.
he wasn’t sure which he loved more: the scent of you on mattheo
or the smell of mattheo left on you.
your palms laid flat against theo’s chest for balance, hips rolling in waves that had both of you gasping, lost in the feeling. his hands roamed your body, thumbs sweeping over the curve of your waist, the full bulge of your breasts. his hands traced lightly over the ink just beneath your right breast, the red cursive spelling angel against your skin.
what an angel, riding him like your boyfriend, his best friend, wasn’t just next door. throwing a party in your honor. “feel fuckin’ amazing
” theo breathed against your skin. “my best friend had all this to himself?” his words dissolve into kisses and biting sucks against your pierced nipples, leaving trails of swollen, purpled marks. you moaned, arching into him, shoving your breast deeper into his mouth. he groaned as he sucked around the metal, loving the taste he had only ever dreamed about. it was even better than he had imagined, shocking against his tongue.
even up close he could still taste the traces of your boyfriend’s cologne clinging to your skin. the thought should have disgusted him. however, it made him impossibly harder.
theo sits up, caging you against him in a bruising hold, his arms locking around your body so tightly you can barely breathe. he holds you there, crushing you to his chest as he thrusts up into you, giving you everything. your hands fly to the back of his neck, fingers tangling in his hair, dragging him even closer to your chest as he continued to drive into you.
“keep hitting right th—ugh
” your words broke off in a choked moan, the sentence dying on your tongue. theo didn’t need to hear the rest; he already knew. he obeyed immediately, adjusting the angle of his thrusts, jabbing into the spot inside you that made your body jolt. you tried to keep moving, hips grinding down against him in desperate circles, but every time the thick head of his cock nudged that sensitive spot: you faltered, legs trembling around his waist. theo caught you when you slumped forward, letting your head drop onto his shoulder as you whimpered. his arms curled around you, holding you steady while he kept thrusting up into you, meeting your weak movements halfway, guiding you through the waves of pleasure crashing over your body.
every breath you took fanned across his neck as you clung to him. you hadn’t even bothered warning him that you were about to come, you couldn’t find the words, and he didn’t need them anyway. he could feel it.
the way your walls sucked him in, squeezing him tighter. even through the condom, he could feel the rush of your release, dripping down all over his cock. theo cursed under his breath, losing his rhythm as his own orgasm hit, his body pushing against yours. hips lifting up into you one last time, deeper than before, as he spilled into the condom with a groan muffled against your shoulder.
for a while, neither of you moved, the only sounds in the room were your heavy breathing. theo pulled out of you, the latex still slapped against him gleaming with your juices. but instead of letting go, he wrapped his fingers tightly around the base of the condom. “first,” he said, voice still recovering from the aftershocks, “don’t just yank it out like you usually do.” he demonstrated, pinching the tip of the condom carefully between two fingers to trap the contents inside. “always pinch the tip,” he instructed, “or you’ll make a fuckin’ mess.”
“then,” theo murmured, eyes locked on yours, making sure you were paying attention. his fingers gripping the base of the condom, not letting a drop escape. “slowly roll it down,” he instructed. “keep your grip tight at the tip.”
you watched, still catching your breath, as he demonstrated for you: rolling the condom down his still softish cock inch by inch. you could see the way his knuckles tensed slightly with the control he forced himself to maintain, ensuring not a single drop spilled.
when the condom was finally off, theo pinched the tip again for extra caution, lifting it between two fingers. you caught a glimpse of it, full of everything he was going to pour into you. theo twisted the open end into a tight knot, sealing it shut before tossing it casually into the nearby trash can with a flick of his wrist.
only then did he turn back to you. your back sprawled out across his bed, hair wild against his dark sheets, skin covered in sweat. fat purple hickeys scattered down your neck, your chest, your thighs. theo stood for a moment, just drinking it in, the gorgeous sight of you, the mess of you. the way you looked destroyed and beautiful under his touch. part of him, a greedy part, wanted to take a picture, to keep you like this forever, ruined by him with the scent of his best friend on you.
instead however, he let himself hover over you, one hand brushing your cheek. “happy birthday, by the way,” voice almost too soft for what they’d just done.
he lowers himself, mouth trailing a path down your throat, across your collarbone, tongue lapping up the thin sweat he left behind. you exhale through your nose, blinking down at him through post-orgasmic daze. “you’re obsessed,” you whisper, voice wrecked.
“of fuckin’ course i am,” he mutters, almost resentful, like somehow it’s your fault he’s like this. when his mouth reaches the curve of your breast. he stops, catching on the silver piercing on the tender peak. “fuck
” he breathes. his mouth falls open, tongue flicking over the metal before he seals his lips around it, sucking it into the heat of his mouth. his free hand cups your other breast, thumb rolling over the second pierced nipple, the barbell clicking under the pressure.
he devours your chest, leaving trails of saliva and bruises like signatures across your skin. dark red and purple marks blush over the soft bump of your breasts, around the delicate piercings, down to the fragile skin just above your ribs.
you sink your nails into his hair, yanking sharply when the overstimulation becomes too much. he looks up at you then, lips all swollen. “now go show my best friend everything i just taught you.”

when i think about this scene from 15.15 it makes me want to chew glass and tear up the walls in rage.
AMARA: I wanted two things for you, Dean. I wanted you to see that your mother was just a person, that the myth you'd held onto for so long of a better life, a life where she lived, was just that, a myth. I wanted you to see that the real, complicated Mary was better than your childhood dream because she was real. That now is always better than then. That you could finally start to accept your life.
for the record i want to say i am a known amara-hater. don't like the non-con shit. don't like that she's doing what so many beings in spn do and narrativizing dean's life back at him while judging him because she drew the wrong conclusions. but i think fandom does have a tendency to take those claims at face value because that is easier than combing back through to check if it's correct or not. (see for example, rachel saying dean only calls cas when he needs him in 6.18. narrativizing, incorrectly. but i digress)
so let's talk about mary. because, through the seething rage, i think two main things about this claim. 1. dean does not have this mythos around mary and 2. mary has arguably more of that mythos around dean.
first off, we'll tackle the claim that it's a myth that if mary hadn't died, dean wouldn't have a better life. because that is absolute, utter, dogshit. OF COURSE HE'D HAVE A BETTER LIFE. while i will always maintain that clearly mary and john were far from stable before she died, her death was what speared john forward into hunting, into turning his kids into soldiers, into neglect and parentifying, and every other god forsaken thing he did. "a better life, a life where she lived, was just that, a myth" - girl, i DON'T CARE IF YOU'RE DIVINE, SHUT THE FUCK UP.
like please don't come here acting like dean grieving the future he could have had that didn't include him taking care of his younger brother alone in motel rooms for days while maybe actually being left as bait for the Kid-Eater is a character flaw on his part that he needs to learn better from.
next, amara claims dean needs to see the "real, complicated Mary."
but hasn't he? dean goes back in time and meets his mom in 4.03 and 5.13. and both times he treats her both as a competent hunter and a colleague. like to be clear, before that, i dont think he was wrong to be relying on a four-year-old's memory of what his mom was like because that's literally all he had access to. but dean actually did meet and interact with the whole, complex woman who was his mother long before amara decided to teach him a lesson with her as the homework. in both 4.03 and 5.13, dean tries to give mary advice to save her life but he doesn't belittle her experience hunting or her desire to leave and life a normal life. i don't know what more you want from him in terms of interacting with his mom as a whole, real, complex person?
this also applies wholly and completely to his interactions with her when she returns in s12. he apologizes for being nervous for her safety (AFTER SHE WAS JUST RESSURECTED) at first. mary says she wants to hunt, dean gets on board. mary says she needs space, dean asks clarifying questions to best support her request. he gets mad at her not for being who she is or needing what she needs but for lying to him for months and working with people who tortured him and sam.
in fact, s12 is what i would point to to indicate how well dean articulates and navigates the nuance of being hurt by someone's actions while still understanding and empathizing with why they did it and forgiving them. for example, he says this in 12.04
DEAN: This whole mom thing, it's... I mean, we get her back, and then she leaves. I hate it, but I get it. I do. I guess I'm just...still working through some of that crap. I'll try to be less of a dick about it.
[you're not a dick, dean, ilu]
in fact, dean's much maligned "how 'bout for once, you just try to be a mom?" isn't even about dean wanting anything particularly maternal from mary. it's about him not wanting her to ditch them to hunt alone and/or with the aforementioned torturers.
so circling back to amara's speech about expectations and myths. cause while her words do not apply to dean. amara's speech does remind me of something that happens upon mary's return in s12. these lines from 12.03:
DEAN: Mom, it's okay. All right? You're home now. MARY: No. I'm not. I miss John. I miss my boys. SAM: We're right here, mom. MARY: I know. In my head. But I'm still mourning them as I knew them. My baby Sam. My little boy Dean. Just feels like yesterday, we were together in heaven, and now...I'm her, and John is gone, and they're gone. And every moment I spend with you reminds me every moment I lost with them.
of course she has every right to grieve the time she lost with her kids. but someone in this room is having trouble really looking at the people in front of them because of their idealized memory of who they were compared to are and It Is Not Dean.
and i just think about dean's speech in 12.22. cause it wasn't dean that needed to see the real mary. it was mary, tucked away in her dream world where sam is a baby and dean is a little elementary schooler who likes pie and has never held a gun, who needed to see the real dean.

đ’đźđŠđŠđšđ«đČ - A normal day for the FBI agents who bicker like a married couple is the first day of many odd ones for a rich and beautiful business woman. But let’s look into how they first met.
đ–đšđ«đ§đąđ§đ đŹ - cursing
a lot, mentions of people’s races, descriptions of appearances, mentions of escorting, food wasting, I hope that’s all but let me know if I missed anything.
𝐉𝐚𝐳𝐳𝐱𝐞’𝐬 𝐍𝐹𝐭𝐞𝐬 - I have a lot planned for this Bad Boys AU, and I’m gonna love every second of it. That’s is if I get to wiring it all
.we’ll see. I don’t want to poor anything but this could be a love triangle or
something polyamorous. UNEDITED AS OF RIGHT NOW!!!, I really wanted to get this out because I was so exited about what you guys thought, it’s 2:13 am. Also, this could be read as an ‘x reader’ I try to tray away from detailed descriptions. I just like to use names because it’s easier for me, I know you are all sick and tried of the self inserts and OC’s. It’s just easier for me to add a name :(

“Does this spaceship have any damn air in it?” The man from the passenger seat with his shades on asked, his voice muffled as he chewed on his burger. The sun was beating down on them through the small car and the heat was causing him to become irritable.
The taller and lighter man glanced over at him, his hand on the steering wheel as he leaned back in his expensive leather seats. “Quit worrying about my air and start worrying about that food in my car.” He said, glancing back at the road before looking back over at the hungry man over his own shades. “What is this having a picnic shit in my car?” He asked.
Kelvin sighed, pushing his shades up to rest on his head. “Please man, not right now, not today.” He said, annoyance clear on his tongue as he looked over at his partner. “I’m not getting any at home, don’t deny me this.” He spat before moving to take another bite of his burger. The light-skinned man couldn’t help the small amused grin that made its way into his face. “I mean, yeah, how could you when you still live with your mother.” He chortled. Kelvin snapped his head over to him, his eyes sharp. “I do not live with my mother!”
“Yes, you do. You live with your whole damn family!”
“I do not! I bought my family a big ass house and this economy is shit, okay?” Kelvin stated through slightly clenched teeth. “I can’t keep taking women back to my crappy ass apartment that I got on my crappy ass cop salary!” He continued as Aaron sped through the sunny city in the Florida heat. Unbeknownst to both of them, a car was in their trail.
Aaron was about to respond again before he got distracted by the huge bite Kelvin took from the burger and the fries he stuffed from his lap. He scrubbed his lip over at him. “Could you watch it with all that shit, alright?” Kelvin rolled his eyes and threw his head back with a grin as she chewed his food. After swallowing, he gave the man next to him a dead stare.
“Where are your cup holders?” He asked, disregarding what the man said as he looked around the small car. Aaron trained his eyes back on the road, clenching his hands on the steering wheel. “I don’t have one.”
“The hell do you mean you don’t have one?” He asked, his face scrunched in pure befuddlement at what his friend was saying. “$80,000 for this car and you ain’t got no damn cup holders?”
“It’s $105,000 and this just happens to be one of the fastest production of cars on the planet,” Aaron told him confidently, speeding the old model sports car up on the road out of pure cockiness. “0-16 in four seconds, sweetie. It’s a limited edition.” He smirked.
“Limited?” Kelvin said. “You got damn right it’s limited. No cup holder, no back seat. This is a shiny duck with two chairs in it. And I guess that makes us the balls just dragging the fuck along, huh?” He hissed before he reached into his lap for some fries, but the fast car and his clumsy nature caused the fries to fall, falling out of the small carton box they were in. “Oh, damn.” He mumbled, shooting a glance at his driving friend. Aaron’s head quickly snapped over to him, looking between the spilled fries and his hungry partner. “Sorry.” Kelvin winced.
Aaron then quickly wrapped the sports car into the nearest sidewalk, parking the vehicle. He took his shades off, still looking between the food on his floor and the crevices in between with a sharp eye, and then back up at the quickly agitated man. “Get it up.” He said firmly. Kelvin scoffed, looking the man up and down as he held his half-eaten burger.
“Now I know you see I can’t get down there. There’s no place for me to sit anything with this shitty car of yours.” He spat. The pair were so caught up in their bickering that they still didn’t catch the car that’s been trailing them, park right when they did. “And you got a damn engineering floor up in here, my shit ain’t going down up in there.” He said, holding up his hand to show that it wouldn’t fit.
“You know what, I’m not your damn mama.” Aaron spat. “I shouldn’t be cleaning up after your filthy ass.” Kelvin immediately held his finger up to his face. “Keep my mother out of your mouth, A-A-Ron, I told you that.”
“Quit calling me that!”
“And watch my hand, okay?” Kelvin ignored him as he continued, moving to try and stuff his hand in between the seats. “It can barely get down there. And when it does, it gets stuck. And what does that make, you get this shit!” He chided, hosing up the same hand to show his now crooked and coned fingers, a small grinning his face. Aaron gave him a black stare, both of the men unbeknownst to the women coming down the sidewalk and the woman from behind them sent as a distraction.
“You gone get them fries,” Aaron told him.
And while they were absorbed within their world of car chat and being tailed, two women were walking down the street having a conversation of their own.
“Thanks again, Fab.” One of the women said, glancing next to her to see her friend licking away at the frozen cream treat in the sugar cone. “For the ice cream, I mean.” She mumbled, glancing back down her the pink ice cream she held in her fist. The other woman glanced over as she swept her fresh blow out from her face. “I told you it was no problem, Addy.” She shrugged before giving her double chocolate ice cream another lick, the Miami sun shining down on her bronze skin.
It was silent then, the pair listening to the sound of their shoes hitting the pavement, Addy’s kitten heels making small taps while Fabiola’s stilettos punted against the pavement in her tried strut. They enjoyed their treats under the blazing sun, ears tuned into the chirping grids, the sound of playing children, and the city life moving past them. The air was thick with tension, both of their thoughts filled with burning assumptions, unanswered questions, and overflowing uncertainty.
This was still new for them. All of it. Although Addison and Fabiola had been friends for a while, their new living situation was still a task to get around, and there were certain lines neither of them ever crossed. Knowing each other since junior year of college, most would say they were best friends with opposite personalities. Addy was an adrenaline junkie to her core. She spent most of her college time drinking and throwing ragers. She was known for her sweet personality and down with all the frats and sororities. And no matter how hard she partied, she never failed an exam. Essays might not have been her strongest suit but she was damn good with numbers.
Fabiola on the other hand was sort of the opposite. She had her fair share of nice times on campus but she wasn’t really a ‘people person’. Fabiola grew up as the youngest girl of three boys with a beautiful mother and a strict and traditional father. She was a bossy perfectionist with a small temper and a no-bullshit attitude. All that to say, she was spoiled rotten, and making friends didn’t come easy. She hadn’t had a consistent friend in her life up until college. Now, she wasn’t a complete loner, she had friends at school growing up, but she never went out of her way to hang out with any of them. She was focused on one thing and that was her career. After seeing her mom be a housewife for so long, she knew it was a life that she never wanted to live. So he had her group and stuck to them.
That was until she was almost failing trigonometry and everyone she knew was recommending the campus's famous engineering major, Addison Montez. They would meet in the library every Friday afternoon to study, and eventually Fab began to help Addy with her papers for history. They were studying friends until the oh-so-comfortable and relaxed Addison recommended they go out to a party instead of being trapped within the thick smell of old paper and stale wood. And after that homecoming rager that took place at the HBCU two miles out, let’s just say they were almost inseparable after that.
It’s been years since then though. Life got real for them quickly and it was hard to keep in touch. Fabiola went on to inherit most of the money of her father when he passed since two of her brothers ended up being absolute useless shits with no career and the eldest son ran the medical equipment company. All while her mother ran off to Switzerland to marry a rich white man who was also widowed. They all still kept in touch but things were a little odd now.
Addison’s life, on the other hand, went a little downhill. She was never able to her master's degree because she didn’t have the money to pay for college. Things got so stressful for her point that she had to drop out, which her folks were not happy about. She could only live in her small hometown in the middle of bun-fuck nowhere working at GoodWill for two years before she packed her things into her shit box of a car and ran. That’s how she ended up in Miami, in her little apartment now making more than she was at Goodwill, although life still wasn’t that great considering what she now did for money. And that didn’t last long because the building she lived in was sold and she now needed a place to crash until she collected more cash.
And after bumping into Fabiola at the lingerie store, things went from there. They were friends again after so long. Casual and lighthearted conversations filled their hearts pure.
But their forced proximity begged for more clarity.
Fabiola moved her brown leather bag to her other hand, slipping it into the cuff of her elbow as she continued to eat her ice cream, biting into the cone and then licking some of the cream that fell away from her deep red manicured nails. She then looked down at her outfit, making sure the dripping treat didn’t hit her nice sweater or her crisp white shirt under it. “Just say what you’re thinking Addison.” She said, not even looking over at her friend before going back to her ice cream once she saw her outfit was clear.
Addison glanced over at her, licking her ice cream at a slower pace as her mind became more closed with doubts. She had her arms crossed, her free hand against the hairs in her exposed arms, due to the black halter turtle neck she had on that matched her small black heels, all paired with simple jeans. “I just
you don’t know how much I appreciate you.” She said. Her words were met with a groan from Fabiola, the woman throwing her head back.
“Enough.” She said firmly, turning her head to her. “You’ve said thank you to me more than you’ve lived longer with me. And it’s been two weeks.”
“I know, I know,” Addy added in a dejected tone, only giving the strawberry-flavored dessert in her hand kitten licks. “It just really means a lot to me right now. You don’t even know how much.” She said, letting out a small sigh. Fabiola’s eyes flickered back at her at her mellow tone, taking in the woman’s lost stare and guarded form. She awkwardly pressed her lips together, her eyes flicking away since she found the cars passing on the street much more interesting than the emotionally charged atmosphere. She then gulped. “Just say what you really want to say.” She said, the words coming out firmer than she anticipated. She ignored it, however, her eyes still looking at anything but the woman next to her as they walked back to her car.
Addison glanced her way when she spoke, but was met with the woman tucking her shoulder-length blowout behind her ear. She gulped herself, pursing her lips as she looked away. “I
” She trailed off. “I just don’t think it’s best for me to say it in this environment. In the open.”
“I would rather you say it before we’re trapped in my car for the next twenty minutes until we make it back to my place.” Fabiola didn’t miss a beat, cutting her eyes at her from the corner. “No pressure but it might be more awkward for you.” She said, and before she could finish, she then realized why she didn’t have many friends. Feelings were never really her thing, and this sensitive subject that Addison was clearly going through wasn’t her forte at all.
Addison nodded at her words as she licked her lips, totally forgetting about the melting treat in her hands. “Yeah, you’re right.” She sighed. “Okay. I, um
. Okay
I
work for a Madam.” She added quickly after her stuttering spout, then ate the rest of her ice cream as quickly as she could. Fabiola turned her lips up at her, watching as the woman sucked the ice cream that was most just cream now, from the cone. Addison turned to her, seeing her disgusted face. “Okay, damn, no need for the look.” She spat.
Fabiola blinked. “No, that was for the way you ate the rest of that ice cream.” She added, giving her a sideways glance as she bit into her cone. “I don’t really care about that other thing.” She shrugged as she brought her gold wire shades down to cover her eyes, her hair blowing more in its free form with the wind in her strut. Addison’s brows shot out at that. “Really?”
“Yeah.” She shrugged as she sped up some, seeing her car in the distance. “A check is a check, sweetie.” She said, flashing the girl a smirk and wink before licking at her ice cream again. They were coming upon her car, causing the woman to dig into her purse to find her keys with one hand. Addison blinked, shocked at her blasĂ© attitude, and nodded her head as she followed after the woman. “Well, it’s not really a check.” She added with a small smirk. Fabiola glanced over at her, her arm still out as she dug into her purse to fetch her keys. “Well, money is still money.” She added, mocking annoyance with a smirk still on her lips as she found her keys. Addison grinned as well, watching as the woman stepped into the street to open her car door.
They paused however at the sound of commotion at the car behind them.
Back in the car, Kelvin and Aaron were still arguing.
“How imma get the damn fries, A-A-Ron?”
“Quit calling me that! Now look, this ain’t no got damn Denny’s, ain’t no eating in my car.” Aaron said before movement out of the windshield window caught his attention. His eyes were completely disregarding the woman in white, tilting his head to look around the planned distraction at the two women coming down the pavement.
“I wouldn’t be buying no shit from Denny’s anyway!” Kelvin continued, not paying attention to what the other man was staring at. “I don’t like the way we would’ve been treated.” He said before his eyes caught sight of the woman in white walking around the car. He looked the pale gorgeous woman in the short white dress up and down before glancing back at Aaron. “You weren’t worried about no damn fries anyway.” He snarked, looking the man up and down. “You all up in that.” He said. He then realized Aaron wasn’t all up in that white woman passing by, but the two beauties walking down the street. Kelvin glanced over, and it was like everything transformed into slow motion.
They watched as a woman in a grey suit practically strutted down the street. Her straight hair was touching her collarbones and belonged in the wind, her shades covering her eyes. She walked with a sense of authority and confidence, her equally attractive friend a few steps behind her, as she licked away at the chocolate ice cream in her hands.
“Damn.” Kelvin and Aaron said at the same time in the same breathy tone, tilting their heads as they looked the duo up and down, moving to the car in front of them.
They couldn’t admire her long before they were interrupted by the sight of guns entering their periphery.
“Get out of the car.” The scrawny white guy spat at Aaron. He glanced at the man before shaking his head with a sigh while Kelvin just dripped his.
“Damn.” He and Kelvin repeated. L
Kelvin looked the big burly man next to him up and down in disgust before his eyes went back to the gun lined at his face. “Now ain’t this some bullshit.” He spat. “The fuck is this?” Their attention was no longer on the women in front of them, but their attention was now on them.
“Me and my team, we’ve had a big week, so just get the fuck out of the car.” The white guy spat at them. Kelvin was too busy squinting his eyes against the sun as he looked out of the car at the large guy who held him at gunpoint. “Damn!” He said again, looking him up and down. “What you weigh in at, 350? I bet you a big Popeye chicken-eating son of bitch, ain’t you? Churches?” He asked causing Aaron to roll his eyes as he brought his hands up in surrender. “Hey, hey. Let’s chill.” He began when the man brought the gun closer.
Kelvin turned to his partner, his arms still down as he frowned. “Why do I always gotta get the big thick mothafuckas?” He tiffed. This only gained a reaction from the men who were robbing them. “Get the hell out of the car, now!” The white guy hissed as he moved to piped the door, causing the large guy to follow. Aaron and Kelvin were quick to exit, their hands raised. “Alright, alright, alright!” Kelvin yelled as he stepped out with his cup in his hand. He looked at the man in front of him while the other guy tried to lean Aaron against the car.
Fabiola and Addison looked back at the commotion, their mouths dropping at the sight of the robbery happening in front of them. Addison was quick to drop the soggy cone and move to the car, squatting down some in case things got wild but Fabiola was stuck, the rest of her cone in her mouth, scared to move in case the men’s guns turned their way. They stood there, just watching and listening.
“You know, now this is some funny shit,” Aaron said, his tone fed up as he held his hands up, glancing between the men that surround him.
“Shut up!” The small guy yelled. But Aaron just ignored him, looking at the angry man. “Let me tell you how bad a day you’re having. Right now you’re having a couple of FBI agents.” He stated. The shirt guy with sweat sliding down his face just looked at him. “Oh yeah? Well, I’m a stand-up comedian.” He added. “And I suck! That’s why I need your car.” He shouted through clenched teeth as he took a step closer.
“We’re dealing with a couple of cops and some lunatics out here,” Fabiola stared on with bated breath, not able to rip her eyes star from the scene.
“Hey, look!” Kelvin spoke up, still not having taken his eyes off the man in front of him. “I ain’t no Wesley Snipes, I just hang out with stupid ass friends that drive stupid ass cars that’s attract a lot mothafuckin’ attention!” He yelled, emphasizing his words every time he glanced back at said ‘stupid ass friend’, who now had a gun to his head. Aaron didn’t seem to care about any of that at the moment, his jaw downing at Kelvin’s statement.
“You know what? I need to jump over this car and smack you upside your peasy ass head, that’s what I need to do.”
This caused Kelvin to turn around, the men now facing each other as they disregarded the burglars who watched them. Fabiola furrowed her bed at them while Addison raised from her crouch position, less scared as she watched the so-called cops argue with guns to their backs. “A couple of lunatics as cops too.” She said, adding to what she heard Fabiola state. They watched as the men screamed at one another, the men with guns slightly backing off out of confusion and tension.
“Yeah, cause your ass was arguing over a stupid ass, mothafuckin, French fry!”
“It’s not about the French fry!”
“It’s a fry!”
“It’s about your lack of respect for other people's property!” Aaron screamed, pointing over at him.
“Hey, hey, hey!” The scrawny man behind Aaron yelled.
“That shit is stupid!” Kelvin shouted back at Aaron. “Shut the fuck up!” The large dark-skinned man spoke up, pointing his gun at him. Kelvin’s head snapped back to him, face grimaced in pure anger. “Hold on! You hold the FUCK ON!” He yelled at him before turning back to argue. “Now you want some bad enough, come get some!” He added before quickly turning around and throwing his chocolate milkshake onto the large man, not missing a beat to kick him in the nuts and then rip the gun off his hips. All while Aaron simultaneously elbowed the man behind him in the face before then turning to sucker punch him, causing the perps to both hit the ground.
“You like that shit?!” Kelvin continued to yell, pointing his gun down at him. He moved around, kicking the gun far from the burglars' hands as he held his own to the man’s head. “Wesley Snipes, Passenger 57! Now give me a mothafuckin’ handy wipe!” He spat with a smirk, his glare on the large man.
Aaron let out a sigh as he pulled out his gun, pointing it down at the man who seemed to be concussed on the ground.
“Now let’s hear one of those jokes, bitch.” He spat. He heard w let out a large laugh from the other side of the car, causing him to glance over. He had a smirk of his own on his lips, green eyes relaxing in the sun. Their ultra-cool moment was interrupted by the sound of a car unlocking, causing both cops to look over at the two women from earlier staring at them.
Addison was quick to open her door, her eyes darting between the scene in front of her one last time. “Sick shit.” She said with a grin before entering the car. Fabiola still stood there, shocked as she looked between the two cops. It seemed as though the halt in the screaming caused her to snap out of her thoughts, leading her to blink. Her eyes moved over to the shorter man, who was dressed in a simple white tee and black dress pants, all high in his built figure. The hold of his chain, belt buckle, and other jewelry stood out against his brown skin. His shirt waves were smooth on his head and his cute face was sort of clean-shaven, her eyes attaching themselves to his stunning and plump lips.
“What she said.” She spoke up, nodding her head to the woman in the car. “That was
cool.” She nodded. Her sultry voice caused both men to tense up but quickly relaxed, the smooth sound unexpected to both of them. Her shades were also on, covering her eyes from telling them what she truly thought, and why she was still there speaking to them. Kelvin nodded his head at her, not hiding the way he looked her up and down. “Thanks.” He said, a small smirk making his way into his lips.
She nodded at him before her eyes then made their way to the man on the other side of the car. His figure was taller and larger, and although his suit was baggier, she could tell the muscles under it were strong and sculpted. His outfit was similar to Kevin’s, although his was grey and he had his blazer on. What caught her attention the most was his eyes, the bright and striking color of them held her captivated from the rest of his face. The icy blue irises looked back at her as her eyes gave his face a quick once over, admiring his large ears and nice goatee, and a sexy smolder on his lips.
“Nice car.” She added, nodding at the fancy Porsche that they surrounded. Aaron blinked, his eyes not leaving her face. He was caught in the way the hair blew the wind, framing her face perfectly. Though he only knew her for mere seconds, he hoped desperately that some unknown force would come in a swoop the glasses from her face to see her clearly. “Thank you. Porsche.” He said, snapping out of his quick start of thinking. His eyes then moved to the one she stood by, nodding his ear down to it. “What that?” He asked.
The pair could both see one of her brow arch at his question, a smirk making its way into her lips. “A Ferrari.” She said, placing her hand on her hip as she looked between the two of them. Aaron’s eyes widened as he stood straighter, looking between the car and the woman. “F512M. Nice right? I know.” He said, not even waiting for a response to her question that she answered herself before opening the door. She didn’t even give them one last glance before hopping into the nice grey car and pulling off, making sure to rev her nice engine.
Kelvin and Aaron stood there, guns still pinged at her knocked-out perps, watching the car as it quickly drove away from them. Kelvin seemed to relax without the woman in his vicinity, his shoulders dropping but his arms still raised to aim his gun. “We should get these guys
somewhere. I want ‘em the hell up outta my face.” He grumbled before moving to grab his phone and pager from the car to call down the local police. Aaron raised as well, his gaze moving from the sunset the woman drove off into, to the hot pavement the burglar laid on. “Forget them, this one’s probably dead. I wanna know who the hell that was.”
“Someone out of both of our leagues,” Kelvin added, his focus on the phone in his hands. Aaron jerked his head back, sending the man a dirty look. Before he could even begin an argument, Kelvin had already raised his finger, halting him. “Even for you Mr.Playboy. You don’t have a Ferrari.” He said before sending him a sarcastic smile and then turning away with the phone held up his ear.
Meanwhile, in the car, Fabiola had a grin on her face as she pushed her glasses back up into her hair. “Girl, them cops were fione!” She said, causing Addison to laugh. “You know, besides all the armed robbery stuff, that wasn’t a bad sight. I love to see some brothers in action.” She cheesed, letting out a laugh as she rethought the whole ordeal they witnessed.
“Yeah, they were pretty fine.” Addison nodded, dragging out the word pity as she grabbed the matinee she left in the woman’s dashboard. “And probably married. Brothas that cute can’t be single. Agents at that. And in that car? I know their women love them.”
“Mmhmm.” Fabiola hummed in agreement, a small smirk on her lips as she nodded her head. She then let out a scoff at a sudden thought. “Probably white women too.” She stated, causing Addison to let one out as well. “Let’s get off that.” Fabiola waved off with a quick roll of her eyes. She couldn’t dwell on the thought of those fine men being tired down so some non-sisters that couldn’t love them and understand like she could.
What the hell am I talking about? I don’t know them and I’m damn sure never gonna to see them again, get over it, girl. This is the adrenaline and sugar talking. She thought to herself.
“Why the hell don’t I know Miami was this crazy? I knew it was fun in the sun but damn, am I gonna get a gun pulled on me?”
“I’m this car in certain areas? Sista they might try to kidnap you for ransom.”

My tumblr is tripping, I don’t have a tag list for some reasons so if you want to be part of it, let me know, and pretend that Aaron has an American accent or I will make jokes on why a British man is apart of the United States FBI.

“Has Lando’s attitude gotten any better since last week?”
“No.”
“Ha! Well, surely he’s been a bit better at practices, no?”
“That, he has. I think it’s because Max snapped at him and the coach backed Max up. Though he still gives me dirty glares during practice when he’s not speaking to me.” Charles shrugs, “though I am unbothered. I wasn’t the one who tried to bribe someone out of this school for people who don’t actually truly like me. Still baffles me that he did that considering how half the school talks poorly about him behind his back. Some are not as subtle as others.”
“Well, everyone has their reasons. Maybe he was more so worried about his friends. Max, Oscar, you—”
“I don't know if I would qualify as a friend anymore.”
“I would consider you a friend if I was Lando,” you admit with a small smile, “friends fight. That’s just the nature of any relationship, romantic or not. I bet he’ll let it go and muster up some apology for being such a dick to you.”
“And you.”
You let out a bitter laugh, “Lando apologize to me? My dear friend, are you sure you don’t smoke anything? Because that sounds like straight delusion. Did you find the delusion at the store? If so, did you get extra because I would love some.” You remark.
“Y/N. I’m serious here.”
“So am I, Charlie. Lando is never going to apologize to me for the shit he tried to pull on me last week.” You lean forward in your seat while making a face at the thought of Lando actually apologizing to you, “Him apologizing means that he was wrong and him admitting that he’s wrong is like hell freezing over or God admitting he was wrong to cast Lucifer out of heaven or like a guy actually knowing where the clit is or—”
“Y/N!” Charles almost shrieks before shuffling closer and murmuring, “you cannot just say things like that! You know how they are about language—”
“Oh bite me.” You groan softly while looking at Charles unimpressed, “The FIA only made that rule because Max was stupid enough to curse at his advisor. Though Marko totally deserved it, if you ask me. Besides.” You take a chance to look on either side of you before looking back at Charles, “we’re the only two here so I doubt anybody heard me. If they did, I think a lot of the girls would be agreeing with my statement and if it was faculty, I will happily take my community service hours because I am not apologizing for telling the truth.” You lean back in your seat with a shrug.
You watch Charles open and close his mouth as he tries to think of something to say and him growing increasingly frustrated because he really had nothing to say besides ‘you’re right, y/n’. You giggle seeing Charles huff and lean back in his chair, grumbling that “ you have some fair points.” You just nod before looking back down at all your notebook. You take a moment before tipping your laptop screen back as you go back to rewriting your notes as silence falls over you and Charles.
“I’ll be right back.” You tear your gaze away from your laptop looking at Charles who is gently pushing his books and laptop back onto the table. “I promised Arthur I would help him with piano and I have to meet him in ten minutes. I’ll be back soon,” Charles is rapidly telling you as he grabs his coat, hastily walking away. You stare, mouth a bit open before just accepting your fate and turning back around. Whatever, it’s fine.
You start finding your groove again as you see just a flash of color across from you. Still, you didn’t even acknowledge the other as you continued to take these notes down. You take a few more minutes to get through the section and let out a sigh of relief. That was one out of four, anyway. Leaning back, you rub your eyes and decide you can take a five minute break. Dropping your hands, you expect to see Charles sitting across from you once again. Instead, someone else sat in Charles' seat.
The universe just loves to test your patience. It has barely been a week since the incident with Lando that you had swore you were done. No more curly hair, greenish eyes, stupid contagious smile, friendly heartthrobs in your life. It was so oddly specific that you were certain the universe would listen but instead the universe decided to test you if you were really done since you now have curly hair, hazel green eyes, stupidly friendly and contagious smile sitting right across from you who was watching you with a gentle smile.
“Franco?”
“Y/N. There you are.” Franco leans forward and puts his elbows on the table, “Leave it to you to find the coolest hidden spot in the library.” He leans over to look at your laptop and then sits back down. “Are you rewriting notes? Gross. I am very sure you have an uh
” he pauses, “photographic memory. That is the word. You already know the things, please put the notes down and have social interactions?”
“Oh why thank you for thinking I have a photographic memory but I do in fact study a lot.” You giggle and feel a blush creep onto your face at the compliment. “I am having social interaction. Am I not talking to you?” You raise a brow at him smiling. “I can talk to you while rewriting my notes, you know.”
“Yes but I do not want you to do that but that means I only have half your attention,” Franco complains as he gently closes your laptop screen shut and grabs your hands. You look at Franco and feel your face turn as red as the school’s hoodie while looking at the other, “and that just will not do.” Franco brings your hand to cup his cheek while looking at you, “you’re always taking notes and talking. I want one hundred percent of your time. Just this once, please?”
You were not the universe’s strongest warrior. The way that Franco looked at you with those wide eyes and small pout. You had found yourself letting your resolve melt quickly as you gently shut your laptop, elbow on the table while resting your cheek against your palm. “Yeah,” you find yourself saying while smiling dreamily at your fellow classmate, “I can do that.”
“Wonderful!” Franco praises as he leans back slightly. “Now, where were we last time we talked?” Franco thinks trying to recall, “I think we were talking about Hamilton—”
“And Toto,” you add on with a grin.
“Right, right,” Franco nods while glancing around before leaning in slightly. “I’m going fucking insane. They have Hamilton coming in as the guest designer for the fashion students this year and they moved the fashion kids into the arts building after that fire. Which means,” Franco grumbles, “I have the fortunate bad luck of seeing Lewis four times a week almost all day.”
“Why is that bad? He’s like your biggest celebrity crush.”
“That’s the thing!” Franco hisses, “He’s a celebrity crush. A crush that was never to see my existence or anything. Now instead of kilometers separating us, it’s just one floor! You think a man that is perfect should be looking at someone like me?” Franco looks at you, horrified, “Y/N. Please. I’ve never been so stressed over my looks before going to class. I don’t know how much longer my fragile heart can take seeing Lewis in all his glorious outfits with all those lovely rings
and tattoos
and stay sane.” Franco drops his head in defeat before looking back up at you. “Well, what about you? How’s your celebrity crush on Toto?”
You sigh and look away defeated. “Sadly, he is no longer a celebrity crush. He’s
” You cover your mouth as you take a moment. You close your eyes before taking a deep breath in and out. “Toto Wolff is
off the roster,” you whisper dramatically while looking at Franco. Franco gasps loudly, covering his mouth.
“What?! Say it ain’t so! Toto Wolff has been on the roster since the day we created the rosters,” Franco stares in disbelief, “What happened? What did he do that was so
dirty that you had to take him off the roster completely.
You stare at Franco before looking away, shaking your head slightly. “He did the one thing that I was terrified of. The only thing that would have me kick a man such as Toto Wolff off the damn roster
he became a full time professor here.” You finally admit, covering your mouth again in disbelief that your worst nightmare came true. You hear Franco gasp again and you nod, “I know. It’s such a sad day. We lost one of our strongest.”
“Here lies Toto Wolff. That man saw the rise of your beautifully curated roster. A moment of silence for our beloved.” Franco whispers as he sits there with you. You two glance at each other and you two break out into laughter. You both lean in, giggling while trying to hush the other so you two don’t get in trouble for being so loud. “Though seriously, he became a full time professor here? Good for him but that truly is a shame. We got new eye candy but at what cost?”
“I know! But hey, at least his teaching style is unique so at least I am very engaged which is really a good thing plus him looking as hot as he does since he’s a psychopath. Who the hell has classes at eight in the morning? I can’t even be happy that it’s once a week because it’s a three hour class that starts promptly at eight in the morning on Monday. Maybe it is a good thing Toto became a professor because this is too much.”
Franco’s been laughing silently the entire time, silently getting more dramatic as you spoke so he wouldn’t scream in the middle of the library. You watch him for a moment before laughing as well, grabbing onto his arms as the two of you laugh.
You two calm down and lean back as someone clears their throat. The two of you look up and your face falls to horror when cold stormy green eyes land on you. You shift uncomfortably as you become defensive. Shoulder a bit further back. Back a bit straighter. Chin a bit higher. You force a smile at the British student while trying to explode him with your mind.
“Y/N.” Lando remarks while looking down at you with pure raging dislike, “Funny seeing you here.”
“I could say the same for you.”
“Ha.” Lando looks at Franco and relaxes slightly. “Dude. Come on. I’ve been looking for you for the past ten minutes, we have to grab Oscar before meeting up with Max and Carlos soon. I really don’t need Carlos getting on me for being late.”
“Oh sorry. I just got so distracted.” Franco tells Lando and stands.
“What were you even doing? Speaking to Y/N?” You glare at Lando. Franco is way too sweet to be dragged into your bullshit with Lando before looking back at Franco. It seems that the Brit has a soft spot for your fellow freshman or something because Lando clears his throat before he keeps speaking, “I didn’t realize you two knew each other. Didn’t mean to sound so rude
sorry.”
Holy shit. Did hell finally freeze over? Maybe it’s pigs flying. Or he’s finally getting laid. It really doesn’t matter the reason why right now because you were still in disbelief that Lando apologized. You never thought you’d live to see the day where Lando apologized in general but apologizing because of the rude tone he had when speaking about you? Did you end up in the Twilight Zone? No no this must be a joke. Okay, cut the cameras. Seriously the cameras can STOP rolling.
“Oh of course I know Y/N! We’re in the same graduating class and we have a few gen eds together. It’s just hard given our schedules but,” Franco grins, “We make it work. Though! Before I leave I actually want to know if you’d be interested in grabbing lunch with me tomorrow” Franco announces as he looks at you, smiling, “could be a date if you want?”
Suddenly the world just freezes and you’re stuck at the library table staring in complete shock at the turn of the events. You hadn’t even told Franco about Lando, not having the heart for his poor heart to be crushed by how Lando could be so nasty. Still, you’re trying to figure out how the hell this conversation got onto the topic of Franco asking you out on a date.
In the heat of the moment, you can’t help but turn to look at Lando as if he heard Franco correctly. Maybe you’ve just fallen asleep and this is some weird dream or something. You come to the shocking yet unsuspecting realization that this is not a dream when Lando meets your gaze having the same idea. You both look back at Franco in a state of shock and confusion. “A date?” You and Lando ask in union.
“Yes.” Franco laughs and smiles widely at you and Lando before looking back at you, “well? Would you like to get lunch with me? As a date?”
“Yes.” You smile while nodding, “I would love to get lunch with you as a date.”
You stare at Franco with a stupid smile. You hadn’t expected this was how your evening would go but you were more than happy about it. You were so happy, that Lando’s look of shock turned to disgust didn’t even phase you. Finally, you’re crashing back to reality when Lando annoyingly clears his throat while looking down at the two of you. “Well, lovebirds,” Lando forces a smile but you can feel the burn his venomous words carry, “sorry to cut the moment short but we really have to leave now, Franco.” Lando manages through gritted teeth.
“Right! Sorry again.” Franco gathers his things and looks at you, “I’ll text you later. Bye Y/N,” Franco waves before Lando sends him off, telling him he’ll be right out.
You watch Franco go off and sigh dreamily. You glance away for a moment before doing a double take. Your smile morphs into a scowl while looking at Lando who—hasn’t moved yet. Looking him up and down, you raise a brow. “Can I help you?”
“Why did you say yes to Franco?”
“You really think you’re entitled to that after the shit you pulled last week?” You raise a brow while clicking your tongue, “besides. Why do you even care?”
“Because Franco’s a freshman and I don’t need him distracted,” Lando snaps and you roll your eyes. Here he goes again about distractions and shit. Lando glances away and huffs. “Also because he’s a bit of a player.”
“Takes one to know one, yeah?”
Lando glares at you and sneers slightly. “So what? I wouldn’t want him wasting any of his time on you.”
“Why?”
“You’d probably bore him to death.” Looking down at you as Lando gives it a beat. “Also I doubt you’d know how to get him off for your first time. Hell, I don’t think you’d know how to get anybody off. Not even yourself.” Giving you a condescending smile, “I would hate for him to be a part of your body count.”
“Oh.” You laugh slightly, “That’s adorable. Well. You know what? I think we got off on the wrong foot.”
Lando’s a bit taken aback. “I—what?”
“You know. I’ve been doing some thinking. I think we didn’t quite see eye-to-eye.” You continue as you pack your things. “Which isn’t really fair because you were truly just looking out for your friends. Like you’re doing right now.” Standing straight, “which I just wanna say is the sweetest thing ever so. I want to thank you and I’ve figured out the best way to do that.”
“
Which is
?” Lando leans in slightly, waiting for your answer.
“Which is
letting you know in great detail not only how good Franco’s gonna fuck me this weekend but you’ll also have to listen how Franco’s not going to want anybody else when I’m done with him.” You feign innocence to Lando as you sling your backpack over your shoulders before walking away.
Tumblr media
“Now, don’t you move a single muscle,” Franco kisses your forehead with a smile “You just focus on resting and I’ll handle everything for dinner tonight, okay?”
“Uh huh.”
“Good girl.” Franco winks before leaving your dorm.
You lay in your bed staring where Franco had just left before rolling over, grunting as your legs failed to work with you. Fumbling around the messy sheets and pillows till you find your phone and immediately open the texts messages because you had to tell someone about the date you just had:
A MINX. HE’S A MINX I TELL YOU. - YN
WHO? WHAT? THE FUCK IS HAPPENING??? - CL
FRANCO. FRANCO IS NOTHING MORE THAN A MINX!!!!-YN
??????-CL
So Franco asked me out on a date for lunch today—YN
HE WHAT?! WHEN?-YN
Yesterday after you disappeared. He showed up and Lando came looking for him.-YN
LANDO? WHAT? Oh my god was he nasty to you? I’ll hurt him istg-CL
No. No he was
civil. Or civilish while Franco was around. But anyway, yeah Lando was asking like why Franco was talking to me cause we don’t really talk and like they had to go to Max’s place and Franco was like “oh we’re in the same graduating class” and stuff but before he left he was like “oh do you wanna get lunch with me tomorrow as a date?'“-YN
And I was gagged! I thought it heard it wrong so I looked at Lando who was LOOKING AT ME THE SAME WAY so we realize oh this is real. This is happening and Franco wants to grab lunch with me like a date. So I say yes, obviously.-YN
IN FRONT OF LANDO!?-CL
Yeah cause fuck him!!! If my happiness is his kryptonite to having a good day, then so fucking be it. But wait!! There’s more!-YN
TELL ME! TELL ME!-CL
So Lando hangs behind and Franco leaves. Then Lando looks at me all like “why’d you say yes?” Bitch what do you mean???-YN
Oh my god, he did not!!-CL
He totally did!!!-YN
Ew. Why does it have a jealous undertone?? possessiveness???-CL
It’s giving ‘you belong to me’ or like ‘nobody else can have you because I want you’ like some dark romance MMC. This is not a bully romance with a mafia subplot or some shit!!-YN
PREACH 👏👏👏. So what happened after?!-CL
Oh so I was like “i’m not telling you after the shit you pulled last week” and asking why he cares and he’s going on about how Franco’s a freshman and he can’t get distracted and how he’s a bit of a player, which he isn’t he’s just kind of a himbo, and I was like “oh takes one to know one, yeah?”-YN
YOU DID NOT. SHUT UP OH Y/N I LOVE YOU SO MUCH-CL
I did and that pissed Lando off. He starts going on about how I don’t know how to get anybody off and I’d bore Franco to death and how he would never want Franco a part of my body count. First off I got three bodies and I have pleased all three, thank you very much but also like fuck Lando!! His opinion? Doesn’t matter!! So I started bout how ‘oh we got off on the wrong foot’ and ‘you’re right’ to throw him for a loop before I told him I wanted to ‘thank him’ for ‘opening my eyes’ and his thank you is listening, in great detail, to Franco fuck me this entire weekend and then listening to Franco wanting nobody else 💋-YN
YNNNN!!! OH MY GOOOOOD I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!! Ugh yes that’s some queen shit. Though how does that tie into Franco being a minx??-CL
BECAUSE. It’s Friday. He has no classes. Mine got canceled so I decided, oh why don’t we stay in today, right? soooo like, we go to the cafe, i get food (that Franco paid for) cause he’s not hungry right now which is whatever, and then we head back to my dorm. We’re watching tv, we’re talking, and I finish eating. It’s great, right??-YN
Yes, correct.-CL
So as I’m talking, I start talking about Lando. Franco’s apologizing, I’m telling him he shouldn’t be apologizing. He’s asking if he should stop hanging out with Lando and you know me. I’m not gonna police people on their friends so I told him no. As long as he holds Lando accountable, then I don’t care. If Franco wants to drop Lando that’s his own doing.-YN
Anyway, we keep talking and laughing. We’re getting closer. And then
you know-YN

What happened? 👀👀-CL
We start kissing. Then it turns into a lazy makeout. Hands start wandering, nothing real scandalous ya know?-YN
Uh huh
-CL
Then this mf pulls away and is like “Oh, I’m real hungry”-YN
FRANCO!!! WTFF!!!!-CL
OH WAIT!! Cause that’s what I thought. I was like “Oh really? Like now? I mean I guess we can go back to the cafe.” Meanwhile he’s actively getting off the bed. Then Franco pulls me by my ankles to the edge of the bed. so i'm thinking he’s really hungry so I go to sit up and he pushes me back down talking bout some “where’re you going mami?”-YN
SIR?? EXCUSE ME??? I can hear the accent now, oh my god that’s—wow-CL
OH BUT WAIT. THERE’S MORE!!!-YN
So first, don’t be calling me mami unless you plan on making me an actual mom. Second, I’m looking at him confused like “you said you were hungry” and he’s like “yeah?” and I was like “Oh I’m sorry, I just thought you’d want me to join you going to the cafe to get lunch” and he’s looking at me like I got ten heads before going like “the cafe? Why would we go to the cafe?” He’s actively like leaning over me while holding my thighs and slowly pushing them opening talking bout “I don’t need the cafe when I got a full five meal course right here sprawled out in front of me.”-YN
FRANCO!?! OH MY GOD—I have to fan myself. Wow that wasâ€”đŸ„”đŸ„”đŸ„”đŸ„”-CL
RIGHT?!?!-YN
WELL??-CL

Charles when I tell you. I do not believe in god but I am pretty sure I was knocking on his door. Two hours. I was seeing god for TWO HOURS!!! Charles when I tell you that man had me screaming crying throwing up I MEAN IT. Charles, I'm still in bed. My legs are still shaking. I can’t feel them.-YN
What I wouldn’t give to be sucked off like that—CL
But wait. There’s a cherry on top of all of this.-YN
WHAT COULD TOP THIS?-CL
Franco really had to make sure everyone knew what was happening. I mean, he’s on his knee with my hips hanging off. He’s got one hand gripping my ass like it’s his lifeline to this world. He’s between my thighs and eating me out like he is a man up next on death row and I am his final fucking meal. He pushed all the pillows away. Got my wrists pinned to my stomach with his other hand. I am solely at his mercy and I cannot keep quiet for the life of me and he ate it up. I was so loud, I heard banging from upstairs.-YN
Banging?-CL
Yeah. Like someone was hitting a broom against the floor. To signal to shut up, which Franco and I ignored. More Franco than me, I couldn’t see straight and that was an hour in. Do you know, what the banging was though???-YN
A disgruntled upstairs neighbor???-CL
Yeah. Do you remember who my upstairs neighbor is?-YN

OH MY FUCKING GOD, LANDO LISTENED TO YOU GETTING THE BEST HEAD OF YOUR LIFE?-CL
Yes SIIIIIIIIRRRRRR. Dude Lando got so mad he CALLED Franco in the middle of it and he answered.-YN
HE ANSWERED?!-CL
Yes. He answered. Pulls back enough to start fingering me and hands be a pillow telling me to bite down on it which I do without a second fucking thought. But tell me why Franco put Lando on speaker and Lando asking “what are you doing right now??” and Franco looks me dead in the fucking eyes going on bout “Oh I’m just having lunch right now with Y/N.” and Lando’s like “oh yeah? Is that so? Then why the fuck is she screaming so god damn loud? Huh? Thought it was a lunch date?” and Charles. I shit you the fuck NOT, Franco without missing a beat goes, “It is. She’s my lunch and my mother always told me to finish everything on my plate and I plan to do just that.” THEN HUNG UP THE PHONE AND WENT RIGHT BACK TO EATING ME OUT.-YN
Y/N
you are the luckiest bitch around. Holy fucking shit. I need a man like Franco—do we know if Franco swings both ways??-CL
He does. Though you might not like him. He’s got a huge crush on Lewis—YN
Never mind. You keep Franco. Gives me an easier chance to steal Lewis' heart. Or just get one chance with him.-CL
I think you can do it. I believe. Anyway, yeah so that happened and—YN
You accidentally send your message to Charles early when a new text comes through. It’s by an unknown number and you click on it.
Lacrosse field. 8pm. We need to talk.-Unk
You think for a moment trying to figure out who this could be. No names come to your mind so you think that someone texted the wrong number. Typically, you’d leave unknown numbers alone but you got the impression that this was something important and urgent that you respond.
Oh I’m sorry, you have the wrong number-YN
I don’t-Unk
Excuse me?-YN
You look up hearing the familiar broom hitting against the floor. You scowl at Lando and his antics before looking back at your phone. Huh. That was
too coincidental. You lay there for a moment before the banging came again, this time a bit more urgent. You send your message before realizing it.
Lando?-YN
The banging stops. Suddenly, your dorm is eerily quiet and you hold your breath. You watch the familiar three bubbles appear and disappear before appearing again as your heart sinks.
Bingo. 8pm. Tonight. Lacrosse field. Alone.-LN

DEAD GIRL WALKING₊˚âŠč ᰔ
♡ ⋼ wc: 9k+
♡ ⋼ content: mentions of guns and getting shot. if you don’t enjoy my content, there’s no need for you to stick around, i’m not responsible for what you choose to engage with.
♡ ⋼ summary: you’re shot during a supply run and wake up in a stranger’s safehouse, stitched up by the same man who pulled the trigger. anger erupts as you learn you’re too injured to leave. jenny, who tagged along, leaves to find your group while you’re forced to recover under the watchful (and annoyingly attractive) eye of your would’ve been killer.
╰â€ș m.list.⌇walking dead au.⌇my au’s.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“THERE’S A WALKER!” theodore burst into the safety house, breathless and shouting, his hands tight around his rifle. the group of five froze. lorenzo glanced at the weapon, raising a brow as if to ask, why aren’t you doing something about it? without a word, theo held up the rifle and tilted it, revealing an empty chamber: completely out of ammo.
it was breakfast, or at least, what passed for breakfast these days. the metallic smell of old canned food, and the soft clatter of spoons scraping against tin filled the quiet. pansy sat cross legged near the stove, her thin brows furrowed in thought as she rationed out what little was left.
for the past couple of months, she’d managed to stretch their food supply using the cans she scavenged on the way to what they now called the safety house. it wasn’t much, but it had kept them fed.
but now, the stash was thinning out. too fast. the pantry shelves had become bony. the days of handing each person their own can of beans or soup ended. now, a single can was pried open, its scopes divided as evenly as possible among the group. just enough to keep the hunger at bay, not enough to satisfy.
there was silence, before mattheo reached for his own gun and slid a fresh round into the chamber. he locked eyes with theo, giving him a silent look that clearly meant, where is it? theodore didn’t speak. he just turned and jogged out the door, rifle still clutched in his hands.
that was all it took. the rest of the group followed without hesitation. mattheo sighed under his breath: he knew damn well they wouldn’t stay put even if he shouted at them to get the fuck back inside. they were too bored. however, theo had said it was just one walker.
one. with any luck, it’d be quick, and not as big of a mess it could’ve been.
"are you... are you sure?" pansy's voice came tense as she hurried after mattheo and theodore. her boots crunched over the gravel strewn path just behind them. pansy had every right to ask: this place, this safety house, had been their shelter. a rundown two story cabin tucked into the tree line, high up on a hill that most walkers never managed to climb. the landscape grew too jagged, too unstable near the top, and more often than not, the dead lost their footing and tumbled back down before getting anywhere close. no walkers had breached it: ever.
that was the point. that was the hope.
theodore didn’t slow his stride. “are you questioning my vision?” he snapped, glancing over his shoulder with irritation sharpening his words. mattheo reached out and smacked the back of theodore’s head with an open palm. not hard, but firm enough to make a point. “watch your fuckin’ tone,” he muttered.
theodore scowled but didn’t respond. pansy blinked, but didn’t shrink away. she’d been through too much with them to be discouraged by a bad attitude.
mattheo shot her an apologetic glance. she wasn’t just some tag along. pansy had stitched their wounds with shivering hands. she’d turned dented cans and half rotted root vegetables into meals that kept them alive. she was the closest thing they had to a medic, a cook, and on some days, a voice of reason. mattheo understood the mood. the wear and tear of running for months had started to show on all of them. everyone was thinner now, shadows hollowing beneath their eyes. the house had been tense lately, snapping tempers, silence stretched for far too long. hunger didn't just eat at your stomach; it ate at your mind.
and still, the idea that a walker had made it all the way up here? it didn't sit right. not with anyone. but if theodore had seen something, they had to check. doubt could get them killed.
“let’s just keep moving,” mattheo said, more to calm the rising disagreement than anything else. “we’ll check it out. if it’s nothing, it’s nothing. if it’s not... we’ll handle it.”
pansy didn’t say a word.
she just stood there for a moment, shoulders drawn slightly inward, lips pressed into a thin line. her silence was louder than any argument, and it caught mattheo off guard. she didn’t glare, didn’t curse, didn’t remind theodore of everything she’d done for them: patching up wounds, cooking with almost nothing, keeping them sane in a world that had gone to hell. no fire in her voice. no bite in her response. she gave the smallest shake of her head, barely more than a breath, and turned around, walking back toward the safety house without another glance.
mattheo watched her go, something tightening in his chest. she used to be the first to snap back, especially when someone talked to her like that. she never took shit, not even from him. there were nights she’d argue with her whole chest, fists on her hips and eyes blazing because someone had forgotten to fix the bandages or wasted water on washing a shirt instead of drinking.
that fire had helped keep them going. it meant she still cared. but this time, there was nothing. just a tired shake of her head. mattheo turned back toward the treeline, jaw clenched. things had changed. too many near deaths, too many cold nights, too little food.
theo sighed, “now i’m the asshole.” mattheo didn’t even look at him, he just gave a small nod. “yeah,” he said quietly. “you are.” the wind rustled through the trees. behind them, the screen door creaked shut as pansy disappeared inside.
normally, theodore would've had something to say. whether it’d be sarcastic, defensive or a muttered insult, but this time, he stayed quiet. he just jerked his chin toward the edge of the woods behind the barn, brows furrowed in that focused way he got when things felt real. “walker was coming from over there,” he said. “must’ve cut behind the barn.”
mattheo followed his line of sight. the barn sat at the back of the property forgotten: its wood warped and splintered from rain, the red paint now faded. they’d cleared it out weeks ago. no supplies. no place for anything to hide. if the walker had ducked behind it, they’d have a clear view. no excuses.
“right,” mattheo said, popping open the rifle chamber and sliding a round into place with a click. he moved to follow, boots crunching softly over the dry grass. “you’ve got incredible luck, huh? ammo runs dry the exact second a real threat shows up.”
theo let out a humorless scoff and lifted his empty rifle, tapping it lightly against his shoulder. “you’re tellin’ me,” he muttered.
riddle made a soft noise in response, a kind of laugh and sigh: but then he froze. movement. so quick he could’ve missed it. it wasn’t the wind, and it sure as hell wasn’t a bird. his instincts kicked in before thought did. he spun toward the motion with a snap of his body, raising his rifle in one swift motion. the barrel leveled in the direction of the barn’s edge, and with a flick of his wrist, he chambered a round, the click-clack sound echoing slightly.
right eye closed. left eye peering through the scope: the forest and barn blurred around the circular view through the lens. dust motes floated in the sunlight, snipping through the trees like golden blades.
a shadow shifted, barely visible, but it was there. something hunched. waiting. mattheo adjusted the angle, finger hovering just over the trigger. but what made mattheo’s breath hitch, what really made his stomach twist with confusion, was the sight that came into focus through the scope.
not one walker. two. they stood just at the far edge of the barn, partly hidden by its shadow, their forms jerky and uneven. at first glance, they looked like the infected: slumped posture, slow steps, heads low. classic walkers.
mattheo’s instincts didn’t hesitate. “wait
” theodore’s voice was a small whisper beside him. but mattheo’s focus stayed locked, jaw set. there wasn’t time for second guessing. he clicked off the safety and squeezed the trigger.
the rifle cracked through the silence like a whip, a deafening shot that echoed down the hillside.
one of the figures dropped instantly, collapsing to their knees with a strangled cry. not the usual guttural growl. not the mindless noise of the undead. no, this was pain. real pain. they clutched their arm, blood soaking through their sleeve, fingers curling tightly around the wound. the cry that followed wasn’t inhuman. it was unmistakably human. mattheo froze.
the second figure, also not moving like a walker at all, lunged toward the injured one and screamed, “NO!” a voice. not a moan. not the rasp of the dead.
a fuckin’ voice. mattheo’s arms lowered automatically, rifle still warm in his hands. his mouth went dry: these weren’t walkers. not even close. he stepped back, stunned to his core. theodore stood beside him, equally still, eyes wide. “that
that wasn’t a walker,” he said, more to himself than anyone else.

⌗ ( a few moments before. )
“what did i say about eating the food before the twins?” daisy’s voice snapped through your eardrums. before you could react, she snatched the protein bar straight out of your hands. your fingers instinctively clenched around the empty space where it had just been, stomach clenching tighter than before. you’d barely peeled back the wrapper, just enough to catch the scent of chocolate and oats.
it had been days since anything tasted remotely real, and now, not even that small bite would be yours. you stared at the ground, heat rising behind your eyes. not from embarrassment, but from hunger and frustration. so hungry. it had been chomping at you all morning, a grumble from your stomach loud enough to make your thoughts scatter.
it chewed at your focus, made your limbs feel heavier, your temper shorter. patience was already hanging by a thread, and even that, it seemed, was something you weren’t allowed to have.
“they’re taking too long,” you muttered, pushing yourself up from the log you’d been sitting on. the wood creaked beneath your weight, and your legs felt heavier than they should have. dust clung to your pants, your fingers dirty and sore from the last supply run. you didn’t look at daisy when you spoke. you didn’t need to. she had that tone again: the one she always used when she was playing leader. as if she’d been appointed.
“i said,” she replied, louder this time, “they’re going to eat after. you know, when they’re done playing.” she bent down, sealing the food containers like they were treasures. you watched her, jaw set like she was the only one keeping the group from spiraling into chaos.
the sound of laughter from the twins somewhere beyond the tree line made you roll your eyes, their games echoing faintly like spirits of a world that no longer existed. you resented them a little, not because they were playing, but because they could. because no one was snatching bars out of their hands.
you clenched your fists and looked away, not saying another word. you knew better than to argue with daisy, at least, not today. not when hunger was making everyone more brittle than usual. and especially not when she was convinced her word meant order in a world where almost nothing made sense anymore.
“that’s dangerous,” you say, voice pointed as you dug into the side pocket of your shorts. fingers curling around the crinkled wrapper of a protein bar, warm from your body heat. you didn’t look up, but you could already feel it: the moment the protein wrapper gave the slightest rustle, daisy would hear it, and she’d be on you like clockwork, marching over with that usual tight lipped expression.
sure enough, you barely got the wrapper open before you heard her footsteps crunching over the gravel.
“a walker could easily sneak up on them,” you continued, peeling the wrapper back slowly. “especially if you’re here criticizing me for not waiting to eat, instead of being over there, you know, actually keeping an eye on them.” you motioned toward the woods, where the kids’ laughter screened faintly through the trees.
daisy’s sigh was loud the moment she saw the bar in your hand, her shoulders tensing like she was preparing to dive into a speech. “yeah, well
aiden is with them,” she said quickly, just before reaching out and snatching the protein bar straight from your grip.
you froze. not because of the bar, your stomach had already given up the idea of food hours ago: but because of the mention of aiden. you didn’t say anything, but she saw the way your posture shifted, how your hand twitched slightly in response. it was small, nearly invisible, but daisy had always been the type to pounce on the smallest crack.
“he’s been helping around a lot more lately,” she added casually, already pulling out a ziplock bag from her pack like this was all part of some routine. she wasn’t done. “seems like he’s trying to get stuff off his mind,” her tone slid into that overly sweet, singsong she used whenever she was about to stir the pot. “or someone.”
you blinked once, then again, eyes shifting away before you could stop the reaction.
that was all she needed. her lips curved ever so slightly into a victorious smile. that was what daisy did: she didn’t argue, she played games. poked, prodded, needled her way under your skin just to prove she could. her real satisfaction came not from winning, but from making you flinch. you looked down at your empty hand, where the protein bar had been. hunger was one thing, but this was the kind of hunger daisy fed on.
“have your fucking protein bars,” you muttered under your breath. words meant more for yourself than anyone else. you turned away from daisy and stalked toward the white plastic table where the group usually laid out the food supplies. the table was already stained from weeks of use: faded marks from cans, crumbs scattered from meals, fingerprints smudged across the surface from the twins.
you grabbed your rifle from where it leaned against the side, slinging it over your shoulder with ease. your fingers moved quickly, snatching up a few rounds of ammo, sliding them into your pocket. the motions were automatic now.
as you adjusted the strap and checked the weight, you muttered just loud enough for daisy to hear: “tell aiden to stop sharing other people’s business.” you spun on your heel and started walking, each step grinding down onto the dry forest floor. leaves and twigs cracked under your boots, the sun baking the dirt until it was more dust than soil. the rifle bounced lightly against your back with each step. sweat clung to the back of your neck, sticky beneath the collar of your shirt, and the heat of the summer sun felt like it was trying to cook you from the outside in. not that it compared to the heat you were already carrying inside, burning frustration, hunger, and daisy’s ability to push every single one of your buttons.
“can i come?”
you glanced over your shoulder. “you talk?” you said dryly, catching sight of jenny hovering a few paces back. she was always quiet, always watching.
before she could open her mouth again, you added firmly, “and no.” jenny let out a soft grunt: more annoyance than surprise. you didn’t blame her for asking. shit, you almost admired her for trying, especially with how things were. but this wasn’t the time. not with daisy breathing down everyone’s neck like she was the second coming of leader and stomachs growling. especially not when any wrong move would get pinned on you, as always.
daisy had a gift for that. twisting the narrative, turning glances into guilt. she walked like she was born to lead, as if her voice mattered more. aiden, her older brother, was more reserved. but even he seemed to encircle her. and then there were the twins, barely seven years old, all jumpy, picked up along the way. just like you. just like jenny.
a group stitched together by circumstance, not choice. people who had nothing in common except that they were still breathing. and somehow, you were always the problem in daisy’s eyes.
you adjusted the rifle, wiping the sweat from your brow with the back of your hand as you pushed deeper into the woods. you didn’t know where you were going yet, just away. away from the arguing, the power games, the constant ache in your gut. you just needed space. and maybe, if you were lucky, something that involves shooting.
you never stayed in one place for long. none of you did. there wasn’t anywhere safe enough to settle, not really. even when it felt safe, it was only a matter of time before something pushed you back on the road: a noise in the distance. tracks that weren’t yours.
so you moved. always moving.
jenny walked a few paces behind you as you made your way toward the woods. you and her didn’t talk much. actually, talking was a stretch. most of the time, she’d ask something, and you’d reply with a grunt or a single word before wandering off to check in with aiden or head out on your own.
that was the rhythm. she never seemed to take it personally. but today, she wasn’t giving up so easily. “please, please, please,” jenny begged, jogging a little to catch up. her ginger hair was pulled into a high ponytail that bounced with every step, and her cheeks were already flushed from the heat. “i’ll stay quiet the whole time i promise! or—or i could be your armor holder. like, when you ask for ammo, i’ll hand it over lightning fast! i’ll even save you a protein bar later!”
you didn’t answer right away. you just kept walking, your boots crunching over sun baked leaves and dry twigs. the path ahead curved toward a familiar spot, a place you’d checked before. it wasn’t much, but these days, even a squirrel felt like a luxury.
daisy never let anyone else leave with you, claiming it was “too dangerous” or that “splitting up is stupid.” which meant you always hunted alone. no one to talk to. no one to watch your back. it wasn’t that you didn’t want the company. truth be fuckin’ told, anything was better than the silence that trailed after you. but having jenny with you meant one thing: if daisy found out, you’d never hear the end of it. she’d start with the lectures, then the glares, and finally that performative disappointment she put out: you didn’t have the energy for that today.
“and get yelled at by the big bad boss?” you muttered, finally glancing at jenny over your shoulder. “no thanks.”
jenny grinned a little, despite your answer. she’d heard you call daisy the big bad boss before: always with that mocking twist in your voice. it had become an inside joke, even if neither of you ever said it out loud.
jenny fell into step beside you anyway, hands shoved into the pockets of her big cargo pants, walking like maybe if she didn’t say anything else, you’d just let her stay. you didn’t tell her to go back. not yet. and she seemed to understand that the silence between you wasn’t a rejection, it was just how you were.
“i’ll just tell her i wanted to come,” jenny said flatly, her converse crunching over dry leaves as she kept pace behind you. even if you’d wanted to send her back, it was already too late. you both knew it. you’d started walking, and the forest had swallowed the trail behind you like it never existed.
“and anyway,” she added, gesturing behind her with a swing of her arm, “i don’t remember which way we came from. so if you want me to get bit and die out here, then fine. totally your call.”
the trees were dense here, their trunks tall and thin, releasing long streaks of shadow across the path of leaves. a breeze rustled above, stirring branches across your skin. you kept your eyes ahead, one hand steady on the strap of your rifle, the other brushing aside a low hanging branch.
“whatever,” you muttered. “if you die, i’m killing you.”
“that doesn’t even make sense,” jenny replied. you could tell by the way she started to walk a little faster, by the way her shoulders eased just slightly, that she was glad to be there. glad you hadn’t told her to turn back.
you smirked, finally glancing over your shoulder. “actually it does. you die, you turn into a walker. then i kill you again. basic logic.”
she rolled her eyes but didn’t argue. rather, she narrowed them in that signature jenny way. her gaze snapped forward, locking onto something ahead. “last one to that tree is a rotten egg,” she called, already swerving off the trail. she pointed to a tree standing alone at the top of a grassy slope, a massive oak, wider than the others, its roots exposed and curling out like knotted fingers gripping the earth: sunlight over its branches, causing a shine on the hill as though the world wasn’t falling apart all around you.
you sighed, not bothering to hide your annoyance. “m’not really in the mood
” you started, trailing off as you slowed just a bit. jenny had stopped just long enough to look back at you, her expression faltering.
normally, that wouldn’t mean much. you were used to brushing people off. used to moving on. but something about the way she looked right then: disappointed, stuck with you. maybe it was because daisy always shut her down, always played the responsible one and rarely let jenny breathe, let alone have fun. or maybe, in a world where everything felt like it was falling apart, she just wanted to feel normal again for five goddamn seconds.
jenny’s shoulders dropped, and she stared at the ground, kicking a rock with the toe of her boot.
you let out a breath and shifted your grip on your rifle strap. with a push of your legs, you took off running. “hey!” jenny shouted, laughing behind you. “cheater!”
you didn’t respond. you just ran.
the wind pushed past your face as you sprinted, dirt and leaves kicking up beneath your boots. the hill was steeper than it looked, and the burn in your legs was immediate: but it felt good. real. the oak loomed closer, its shadow stretching toward you like a giant hand. jenny’s laughter echoed behind you, full of breath and joy.
there were no walkers. no worry. just footsteps. just air in your lungs and sunlight on your face. just the sound of two people trying to outrun the darkness by racing toward a tree.
“that’s not fair!” jenny took off after you. you could hear the beat of her sneakers hitting the earth, closing the distance between you. she was catching up fast. “should’ve at least said ready, set—mmph!” her sentence was cut short by the sound of impact: a thud followed by the rustle of leaves and a short, pained grunt. you stopped dead in your tracks. instinct overrode everything else. without hesitation, you spun around, your hand whipping to the grip of your gun and drawing it up, the barrel sweeping until it landed on the source of the noise.
but there was nothing. no walkers. only jenny, awkwardly in the dirt, her palms pressed into the mud and her breath shallow with the wind knocked out of her. you lowered your weapon, your grip still tight as adrenaline pulsed through your veins. your eyes widened slightly, every muscle still locked in that second of panic, the type that never fades when survival is your every day.
“you fuckin’ scared me,” you muttered, forcing out a breath through your nose as your gaze flicked to the treeline. nothing moved.
you walked toward her in quick strides, boots sinking slightly in the ground with each step. jenny was already pushing herself up, her face pinched in embarrassment and annoyance as she wiped her hands on her jacket. mud clung to her knees and the side of her leg where she’d hit the ground, soil and leaf sticking to her clothing.
even with careful footing, one wrong step was all it took: jenny had been running, her converse slipping against rocks and wet leaves. here, even the ground itself could hurt you. the rocks were sharp enough to slice open skin through thin material.
your eyes darted around once more. the trees loomed close together, their branches clicking in the wind. it wasn’t just the physical danger that made your skin crawl. it was the silence. the waiting. the paranoia that slithered beneath your thoughts. out here, every sound mattered. every leaf crunch could mean something more.
you reached jenny, and she looked up at you with a faint wince, brushing more dirt from her arms. “i’m fine,” she muttered, though her pride was clearly more bruised than her body.
you reached down to help jenny up. and by ‘help,’ it really just meant hooking two fingers into the back of her shirt, lifting with just enough force to get her moving while very purposefully keeping your palms away from the mud smeared across her arms and torso. the last thing you needed was to be dragging half the forest with you.
jenny immediately caught on, a sly smirk curled across her lips as she stood, brushing herself off with slowness. “thank you,” she said sweetly. and then, before you could step back or react, she lunged forward and hugged you.
not just a polite hug, either. she wrapped her arms around you like you were her long lost sibling, pressing herself against you with the full weight of her muddy clothes. the mud that had soaked into her jacket, smeared across her knees, and ground into her sleeves now bled into your own clothes.
“stop!” you recoiled as you pushed her back with both hands. it was too late. mud had already transferred in wet patches onto your chest and arms. you looked down in disgust, exhaling sharply through your nose.
jenny was already laughing, wild laughter like a kid who knew exactly how far she could push before getting tackled. without a word, you crouched, scooping up a handful of mud from the ground.
it was cold and chunky, squishing between your fingers as you packed it just enough to give it weight. then you stood, took a short step forward, and launched it. the muddy ball hit her dead center in the chest with a splat, flecks of it bursting across her jacket, neck, and unfortunately: her face. she tilted back with a sharp gasp, one hand immediately swiping at her cheek while the other instinctively moved to her hair. but it was no use. “ew!” she coughed, her lips puckering in disgust as she started spitting. “pt—ptt! gross! it got in my mouth!”
you couldn’t help but laugh this time, the sound bursting from your chest before you tried to stifle it. jenny wiped at her lips with the back of her sleeve, her other hand already reaching for the nearest pile of mud.
“okay,” she huffed. “you asked for it.”
you didn’t wait to see what kind of revenge she had planned. you sprinted up the hill, boots slipping slightly against the surface of the muddy path. rocks scraped beneath your shoes, and stray branches clawed at your legs as you surged forward. you clutched the rifle strap tight against your chest to keep it from swinging wildly, the familiar pull against your shoulder.
every exhale forced through your mouth as your legs pumped, one foot in front of the other, faster, always faster.
behind you, you could hear the chaos of jenny’s laughter, you didn’t dare look back. the only rule of a mud war: never give your opponent a clear shot.
the wind tugged at your hair, strands whipping gently around your face as you ran up the hill, boots crunching against the patchy, overgrown trail. as you reached the top, your eyes landed on something nestled halfway down the other side: an old barn, sun bleached, sitting crooked in the tall grass like it had been forgotten.
your pace slowed. usually, you only came across places like this when you were with the full group: daisy always a few steps ahead, keeping an eye on the twins who never seemed to stay in one spot for more than a minute, and aiden trailing at the back, always watching for trouble. jenny never wanted much to do with the searching or the waiting; she’d usually peel off without a word, pretending to be interested in the rocks under her converse or the trees lining the path.
even if the group never expected much from these barns, they always seemed to hold something: a few cans of food just past expiration but still edible, tools rusted but useable, things that meant survival could extend a little longer.
with that in mind, you turned your head just enough to glance over your shoulder. jenny was moving slowly, just a small figure now against the wide field, but still close enough to see where you were headed. you let yourself slow down more, your chest rising and falling as you tried to even your breathing. your shoulders sagged slightly, the adrenaline of the hill fading as curiosity started to pull you toward the barn.
there was something about it, maybe the way the light caught the edges of the broken roof, or how the door hung slightly ajar.
something flickered in your peripheral vision. a sudden movement: too quick to register properly. your body reacted before your mind caught up, head snapping to the side, eyes scanning the shadows just beyond the barn. but there was nothing. no one. just the empty space and your own breath echoing louder in your ears.
you exhaled hard through your nose, fighting the urge to roll your eyes. it was happening more often now, these little moments where it felt like someone was watching, like a presence was just out there. but there hadn’t been anyone. not in months. not beyond your group.
you kept moving forward: barns always had something inside. and something was always better than nothing.
the barn was exactly as filthy as you expected, maybe worse. it’s wooden cover, grayed with age, creaked slightly as the wind blew past. you hadn’t really anticipated finding a barn out here, let alone anything useful. inside, however, was mostly empty. no tools, no crates. just old flattened hay scattered across the dirt floor and the stench of animal waste: you stepped through the entry.
the only light coming in is through the uneven cracks in the barn's siding. it made strange patterns on the floor, strips of sunlight that looked almost like bars.
then came the sound of footsteps behind you. you turned fast, gun already raised, finger ghosting over the trigger. but then the figure stepped into one of those thin stakes of light, and you saw jenny, hands raised in surrender. her eyes wide, face pale with fear. she stared at the barrel of your gun like it had grown teeth.
“that’s the second time you’ve pointed that thing at me,” she said.
you lowered the weapon instantly. “instinct,” you said, turning away before you could see more of her expression. guilt was a luxury you couldn’t afford right now. jenny let out a shaky breath and followed a few steps behind, muttering under it. “yeah, well, your instinct is giving me heart pulsations.” she brought two fingers to her neck, checking her pulse. “yup. beating like a damn drum. thanks for that.”
“welcome,” you muttered back, adding a flicker of cheer to your tone as you crouched near a pile of hay. you reached out, letting the dry strands slide through your fingers. it felt crude: off. like it had been untouched for years. the barn hadn’t seen life in a long time. no animals. no people.
jenny watched from a distance, nose scrunched in disgust. “what are you even doing?” she asked finally, clearly impatient. you resisted the first response that bubbled up: shut up and let me work, because that sounded too much like something daisy would say. “trying to find clues,” you said instead, standing and brushing your hands off on your shorts. “maybe a sign that someone’s been here recently. something. anything.” you didn’t say the rest. you didn’t say maybe we’re not alone out here. you didn’t say maybe we’re not the last ones still breathing.
hope was fragile. saying it out loud always made it feel more breakable. jenny rolled her eyes, already turning to leave. “well, good luck with that,” she said, waving a hand as she backed out toward the barn doors. “i’ll be outside. smells like shit in here.”
you glanced down, then pointed toward the far end of the barn where the floor was caked with something dark. “there is shit, jenny. that’s probably why.”
she looked, and the second her eyes landed on the pile of dried poop, her face twisted and she doubled over slightly, gagging. one hand clutched her stomach like the sight alone had caused physical pain.
“yeah. i’m out of here,” jenny mumbled as she spun on her heel and stomped toward the barn’s exit, converse crunching through old hay. you stayed behind for a moment longer, eyes sweeping the space one last time, hesitant to leave without being sure. but there was nothing. no sign of recent life, just the reek of rot and shit, the long abandoned smell that clung to barns like this. if anyone had ever passed through, it hadn’t been recently.
with a soft exhale, you followed jenny out, the disappointment settling in your chest.
the moment you stepped past the entry, the difference in air hit you like a wave. it wasn’t exactly fresh, but at least it didn’t feel like you were breathing through filth. beside you, jenny let out a dramatic sigh, like she’d just resurfaced from deep underwater. “god, i swear i was holding my breath the entire time in there.”
you kept walking a few paces ahead, scanning the tree line automatically, the barn already fading from your mind like it had never mattered. “let’s head back,” you said finally. “there’s nothing here.”
“okay, okay,” she replied. “let me at least tie my shoes first.” she dropped to one knee in the tall grass, fumbling at the laces of her converse while you stood there waiting, the wind stirring faintly through the field. you gave her three seconds. that was all the patience you had. then, without a word, you turned and started walking again.
“can’t you just wai—NO!”
people always said that when your ears ring for a long time, it means someone’s talking about you: dragging your name through the mud, behind your back, maybe spitting out words that sound nothing like the person you think you are. but as the high pitched shriek echoed through your skull, you realized how wrong that old saying was. because this ringing wasn’t some petty gossip: this was the sound of getting shot.
it didn’t register right away, not the pain, not the panic. just that noise in your ear like a fire alarm pressed against your brain.
your body caught up. your arm felt wrong: numb and heavy. the pain wasn’t strong at first, but faint. like when your foot falls asleep, except worse. this wasn’t just tingling: it burned. as if thousands of tiny ants chewed just beneath the surface of your flesh, each bite lighting up your nerves in waves. you wanted to move, to breathe, to scream, but every motion set off a new gush of torture.
you stayed still, not out of strategy but because moving felt like it would break you.
your vision began to blur, slipping sideways. everything lost its harshness, like the lens of your life was fogging over. it was like someone handed you a pair of glasses, but not before smearing the lenses with their breath, leaving you to peer through a blur that only made everything harder to see.
you blinked hard, tried to focus, and that’s when you saw jenny. her face hovered above you, twisted with panic, lips moving, but her voice was muffled. it was like she was yelling at you from underwater, as if you were floating somewhere just beneath the surface and she was sinking fast, too far to reach. you tried to ask when did i fall? but the words wouldn’t come. you hadn’t even realized you were on the ground until you saw the dirt against your cheek, the grass pressed under your arm, blood soaking into the soil.
when had that happened? when had jenny knelt beside you? when had two strangers appeared behind her, standing over you both? were they the ones who pulled the trigger? were they the ones who'd been silently watching?
your heart raced, but your limbs stayed heavy, body sluggish and sinking further into the dirt like it was swallowing you whole. consciousness pulled at you, tried to keep you tethered, but it was getting harder to resist the exhaustion creeping into your bones. you wanted to say something, to tell jenny you were okay, or at least that you would be.
that you just needed a second to close your eyes. just a second. but your mouth wouldn’t move. your body was no longer listening. still, as the edges of your vision turned to shadow, you managed to latch onto one thought: maybe this’ll teach her to tie her damn shoes on time.
you could feel the grin trying to form on your lips, the muscles barely twitching. but the darkness came too fast, like a surge crashing over your head. and then your eyes closed. entirely.
Tumblr media
“NO! YOU KILLED HER! I SWEAR TO GOD—just wait until aiden hears about this!” the words cracked through the mushiness in your mind like thunder. you were barely conscious, your body heavy and uncooperative, your eyes glued shut as if someone had stitched them closed.
another voice cut in: “awww, you hear that, malfoy? we found you a sister for life in the apocalypse. that’s what it does to us, it brings people together.” there was a collective groan and a smack, the sound of palm on skin. you didn’t have to see it to know someone had slapped him, probably to shut him up.
a new voice speaks, however, more serious: “enzo, take everyone else and let the motherfuckers who actually know what they’re doing handle this. your jokes aren’t needed right now. this is serious.”
you weren’t even fully awake and they were already arguing. you blinked slowly, eyes dragging open. the light stung. everything was washed in a strange way: shapes moved in front of you, doodles you couldn’t quite place yet. one
 two
maybe four people passed by and slipped through the doorway. you watched them leave, not entirely sure if you were dreaming.
am i dead?
it seemed like a fair question. for a second, you really believed it, believed maybe you had finally died, and this was the waiting room to something else. maybe god, or whatever version of him still existed, had decided to scoop you up in some moment of mercy. maybe this was what peace looked like. but then your vision cleared just enough, and you saw jenny. she was crouched beside you, hair a mess, face smudged with dirt, but her smile was wide and bright and absolutely real. her eyes welled with tears the second she saw you blinking.
“you’re alive!” she gasped, then launched forward without hesitation, wrapping her arms tightly around you.
yeah. sadly, you were still alive. the aching in your body proved it, especially in your right arm: you turned your head, just barely, and caught sight of the bandages. they’d dug the bullet out. a dark stain had bled through the dressing already, but the wound was wrapped in clean cloth and held in place with medical tape. someone had done their best to patch you up.
“okay, steady on the hug
” you managed to croak, grimacing slightly as jenny squeezed a little too hard around your shoulder. she pulled back, brushing a tear off her cheek and giving you a sheepish smile.
you adjusted your weight slightly on the bed, or what felt like a bed, though it was probably just a mattress on the floor. either way, you finally noticed there was someone else still in the room.
he stood leaning against the far wall, arms crossed. his hair was a mess of dark curls that looked like he’d run his hands through it a hundred times. his skin was tan, jaw shadowed with scruff, and his eyes, all deep and chocolate brown, locked onto yours the second you looked at him.
he had a few scars on his face, one across his cheekbone and another slicing just under his lip. but they didn’t take away from his looks. god no, if anything, they added to them.
your lips parted slightly, without realizing it. it had been months, maybe longer, since you’d seen anyone who looked like that.
fuck, you thought, how is anyone allowed to look like that in the middle of the goddamn apocalypse? beside you, jenny let out a knowing whisper. “oh, please.” you blinked, eyes still locked on him, barely able to look away. she leaned in, her words like ice slicing through your dazed admiration. “he’s the one who shot you, for fuck’s sake.”
your entire body tensed. the softness in your expression vanished. “what?” you hissed, turning to her, your voice suddenly harsh despite the weakness in your limbs. your gaze snapped back to him. the butterflies in your stomach were instantly replaced by confusion. “him?” you whispered, more to yourself than to her, but the poison in your tone was impossible to miss. the stranger didn’t flinch, didn’t move from the wall. he just watched you, like he was expecting a reaction. maybe even welcoming it.
your nose flares slightly as the heat rose to your cheeks had nothing to do with attraction anymore. you hadn’t seen who shot you, everything had gone numb the second the bullet tore into your flesh, but now, with that crashing into you like a second blow, it made sense.
“yes!” jenny hissed, just inches from your ear. “asshole had me thinking you were dead! he told everyone to leave the room while he took the bullet out, like he was the only one qualified or something.”
you blinked at her, trying to process the image of him: the guy leaning against the wall like he didn’t just put a hole through your arm, digging around inside you like some back alley surgeon.
jenny looked flustered, her hands fluttering slightly in her lap like she didn’t know what to do with them. you could just picture the awkwardness of it all too: the silence, her pacing in the hallway outside, trying to peer through cracks in the door without looking like she cared too much. the thought struck you then: even after all this time, after all the fire and blood and chaos, jenny was still jenny.
still shy.
still the girl you and aiden had found trembling in a collapsed drugstore two towns over, clutching a crowbar like it would keep her safe from the world. you’d dragged her out, literally, when she refused to move, and even after saving her life, she’d barely spoken above a whisper for weeks. she was scared back then, like a deer always on the edge of bolting. and while she’d grown tougher since — who hadn’t? that softness never quite left her.
actually, now that you thought about it, this was probably the most she’d ever spoken in one go.
your brow furrowed. “wait, he took out the bullet?” you whispered, eyes flicking back toward the guy. “and you let him? after he shot me?!”
your voice rose just slightly at the end, the outrage slipping through the pain. jenny winced and quickly leaned closer, trying to shush you, though her expression said she wasn’t exactly proud of the decision either. “what was i supposed to do?!” she snapped under her breath. “i panicked! there was blood everywhere, and you were unconscious, they were the only people nearby with supplies and actual hands that weren’t shaking!” she exhaled hard, brushing her bangs out of her face. “sorry for immediately saying yes to the first people who offered help, i didn’thave time to interview anyone!”
you opened your mouth to argue, something about loyalty, about how if the situation were reversed you would’ve found a way to treat her yourself, how you wouldn’t trust the person who pulled the trigger to also be the one digging around inside her. but the words didn’t come.
because truthfully
 she wasn’t wrong.
if she hadn’t accepted their help, you’d probably be dead. you could still feel how close it had been, your body limp, heat draining from your skin, the ringing in your ears like someone had flipped the switch on your life and you were slipping away. and someone, apparently him, had brought you back.
you swallowed, shifting your gaze again to the guy in the corner. he hadn’t moved. just stood there, watching the two of you, like he already knew what you were saying and didn’t feel the need to defend himself. you let out a slow breath, your anger simmering into something more conflicted. still frustrated. still sore — literally and figuratively.
but also
aware that you owed your life to the same person who nearly took it.
“i’m still mad,” you muttered to jenny. “yeah,” she said, nodding. “but at least you’re alive to be mad.” touchĂ©.
the room calmed into silence. you and jenny both sat there, quiet now, until you remembered one important detail: he was still in the room.“done talking like i’m not standing right here?” the guy asked. of course he had to have a sharp mouth. you resisted the urge to roll your eyes, but barely. “you shot me,” you said flatly, staring him down like that single fact was all the conversation needed.
mattheo exhaled slowly through his nose and gave you a small nod. “yeah. i apologize.”
“it hurts,” you added, as if he somehow hadn’t figured that part out yet. “that tends to happen when you’ve just been shot, yeah.” he replied without missing a beat. the delivery was so quick, that jenny almost let out a tiny puff of air, on the edge of a laugh, but she clamped it down fast when she caught the way your eyes flicked toward her.
you turned your attention back to mattheo, your stare narrowing. “what happens if i were to shoot you back then, hm?” you asked. “i’d ask what we are afterward,” he said casually. you didn’t know what pissed you off more, the fact that he had an answer ready, or the fact that you had no response. your mouth opened slightly, but nothing came out. just silence. first time in a long time that words failed you.
so instead, you said, “where’s my gun?” your eyes swept the room again, still no sign of it. the place was nicer than you expected, all things considered. worn wooden floors, patched up windows, an actual bed beneath you. someone had taken the time to make it feel lived in, not just survived in.
“why?” he asked, a slight curve tugging at the corner of his lips, somewhere between a smirk and a challenge. “gonna shoot me back for payback?” you shook your head slowly. “i’m not you. am i?”
that wiped the smirk off his face. just for a second. his jaw shifted like he was grinding down a reaction, then he huffed and looked away, giving you the smallest of nods.
“my friends are keeping it safe,” he said.
“safe,” you repeated, the word rolling around your mouth with a bitter taste. safe from what? or more like, from who? you didn’t like not having it. you didn’t like the idea of being unarmed when daisy and the rest of the group were likely still tracking your last location, probably thinking you’d be dead.
you glanced over at jenny. “get it back. we’re leaving soon.” she gave a hesitant nod and started moving toward the door, already on her feet when his voice stopped her.
“you can’t leave,” he said, stepping forward. “your injury is bad. you need to let it heal.”
the audacity. the absolute audacity of him to stand there like some self assigned officer, telling you that you couldn’t leave, after he’d been the reason you were bleeding in the first place. it lit something under your skin, that frustration that had nothing to do with the wound in your arm.
“as if we’re staying here. with you,” you pushed yourself up, trying to swing your legs off the edge of the bed. but the second you shifted your weight, a bolt of pain shot through your shoulder, slicing down your side and stealing the breath from your lungs.
with a low hiss, you collapsed back against the mattress, your arm pulsing, teeth clenched to keep from cursing out loud. mattheo shrugged a little as if he expected that exact outcome. “i don’t like the idea either, trust me,” he said. “but pansy insisted. especially after
well. shooting you. she's a stickler for cleaning up after our messes.”
“pansy?”
“she’s our friend,” he said, rubbing the back of his neck. “and the closest thing to a medic this group has.” so there’s a girl, you thought, who feels bad for what her dumbass friend did. you didn’t know her, but you could already picture her: someone helpful, definitely fed up with the ones around her.
and honestly, the idea of meeting another woman out here who didn’t want to shoot you, steal your supplies, or abandon you sounded
 kind of nice.
and god, it had been so long since you’d felt the softness of a real mattress under you. a creaky one, sure. but it was so soft, you couldn’t remember the last time you’d laid on anything that didn’t have rocks or dirt digging into your back. “fine,” you muttered, your pride still bruised. “but we’re with another group. they’re going to worry. we need to let them know we’re safe.” you almost choked on that last word. safe. what a joke.
he gave a small nod. “just tell us where. my friends can go find them, deliver the message. meanwhile, you stay here—with me and pansy.”
you tightened your eyes at him, studying the way he leaned against the wall like none of this was a big deal. “why aren’t you going?” you asked. “what if they see a walker? you’ve got good aim. maybe you’ll shoot them on purpose this time.”
he smirked at that, tilting his head like he was trying not to look too amused. “i’m the only one who knows how to handle a wound like yours. what if you start bleeding again? who’s gonna be here to lick it off for a second time?”
your eyes widened instantly, a wave of disbelief crossing your face so fast it made him chuckle. jenny had been standing awkwardly by the door, rolled her eyes so hard it looked like it hurt. “he’s fucking with you,” she muttered, glancing between the two of you like she was mentally preparing to referee a second gunfight.
the two of you didn’t even spare her a glance, just locked in a stare so intense, she couldn’t tell if you were seconds away from tearing each other apart
or tearing each other’s clothes off. honestly, she wasn’t sure if it was a glare or a full-blown eye-fuck.
“whatever,” jenny said, finally stepping forward. “i’ll go. i’ll show them where the group is.” you didn’t argue. it made sense. you weren’t exactly in running shape, and despite how much you didn’t trust the guy, you really didn’t trust him around daisy and the others. not with that mouth. jenny put her hand on the doorframe, hesitating just long enough to toss a final look over her shoulder. “try not to shoot each other, okay?”

The way we discuss prophecy in fandom is genuinely fascinating. GRRM spends so much time showing how different characters have different interpretations of the same thing based on their own cultural contexts. He says that prophecy is tricky to navigate through multiple characters, showing that even the most careful practitioner can get almost everything wrong and fall victim to their own fallacies (see Mel). So tell me why the main takeaway for large parts of this fandom is “prophecy stupid, it doesn’t matter”. My brothers and sisters in R’hllor, GRRM didn’t invent multiple characters (three of whom are main POVs!!) who can see the future for this to be the conclusion. This is a FANTASY series. Please I’m begging, let us be serious đŸ„Č
