MBBS From Abroad For Indian Students
Medicine is one of the best-sought careers. But, with only a few government medical seats are available in India many students are compelled to consider private institutions, which but of course have an expensive fee structure. Most of these private medical institutions fail to produce quality doctors primarily due to lack of requisite facilities and infrastructure, incompetency to adapt to new teaching methods also minimal research opportunities. All these form an integral part of medical studies, the absence of which may affect the learning process of these young graduates.
Tumblr media
Accredited Foreign Medical Schools provide quality education at an affordable price, and they are also recognized and approved by the Medical Council of India (MCI). Medical schools in the Caribbean is a popular pathway for students who wish to pursue their passion for medicine. There are numerous benefits of studying MBBS from Abroad for Indian Students. Let’s talk about the top 3 essential ones here.
1. Reduced Dependency on NEET Rank / Score
2018 onwards, NEET eligibility for admission to a foreign medical school to study MBBS was made mandatory. In the Indian scenario, the competition is fierce, a medical seat is earned based on the rank secured, and the ratio of seats available in medical colleges is significantly low against the number of applicants appearing in the entrance exam. Comparatively, Foreign Medical schools have easy admission procedures with affordable tuition fee plans and so Indian students who wish to study MBBS Abroad can do so with just the minimum eligibility requirements.
2. Affordable Fee with Attractive Scholarship Opportunities
Fees for MBBS in abroad is affordable and quite equivalent to the private Indian colleges . The tuition fee of government medical colleges is cost-effective in comparison to private medical colleges in the country. However, the best medical schools in India with quality infrastructure and hi-tech teaching methodologies may cost much more. MBBS studies from like China, Russia, Kryghistan or the Philippines could cost much less, however, the only drawback remains during clinical practice, especially for China- Russia where language could be a restriction while interacting with local patients. Communication skills are imperative to medical practice. It is the backbone of patient care and is essential for patient interviews and counseling. Learning a new language as an adult may seem challenging for some if not all. This is not the case for studies in the Caribbean. Medical studies in the Caribbean follow an international standard US-based curriculum (with USMLE focused teaching), advanced and innovative technology with clinical practice in the US, UK or Canada which further enhances the residency option of the student.
3. Quality of Education and International Exposure
Only a few Indian medical colleges match up to the quality standards in teaching and infrastructure. On the contrary, accredited foreign medical schools have hi-tech infrastructure, well-equipped labs, and implement innovative teaching methodologies like problem and system-based learning, using advanced softwares. Class size are also kept small so as to facilitate one-to-one interaction between students and faculty. Studying alongside students from different nationalities is a learning experience in itself. It not only educates them about new cultures, but also teaches them how to adapt to new environments. Students also get exposure to a variety of medical conditions, research, community-based programs.
Accreditation is a powerful tool to assess the quality of medical education and globally accepted standards should be met. It is also important to investigate the components of accreditation, regional accreditation, or approval processes. There are many choices available to study MBBS / medicine abroad and some of them proclaim to be really economical. One needs to make a wise and informed choice, ensuring that in the long run, you get a global accredited medical degree, and your options to work anywhere in the world remain open always. Studying MBBS abroad does not require an English proficiency certificate like IELTS and TOEFL. Also, there is no age restriction to begin your passion, unlike in India where the age limit is set to 26 years.
Some globally accepted accreditations to look out for are:
Tumblr media
Clinical Training/ Rotations/ Clerkships  is an important part of studying medicine / MBBS. These physician-supervised bedside teachings hone the skills in patient examination, diagnostic evaluation, and critical thinking through direct patient care.
Over the years Caribbean medical schools have grown to become a popular choice with quality education and merit-based scholarship opportunities for students. The American University of Barbados, School of Medicine (AUB), located in Barbados is a preferred choice among Indian students. The medical school is CAAM-HP accredited and among the top universities of the Caribbean. CAAM-HP accreditation is recognized as comparable to LCME (Liasing Committee for Medical Education) by the Department of Education in the US. AUB is Licensed & Recognized by the Ministry of Education, Barbados and registered with the Barbados Accreditation Council. Certified by ECFMG, listed with FAIMER and WFME and also recognized by the Medical Council of India.
Besides being a favorite tourist destination, Barbados is a welcoming, secure, and value-for-money option for Indian students. AUB’s US-based medical curriculum (with USMLE focused teaching) attracts students from the United States, United Kingdom, Asia, the Caribbean and other countries. The medical school offers two comprehensive MD programs, a 5 ½ year MD Program for class 12 pass-outs / A level, and a 4-year MD Program for graduates. The curriculum is designed specifically to meet the licensing requirements in the USA & other countries. AUB’s associate concern in India, Era’s Lucknow Medical College (among the best medical schools in India) is ranked among the ‘Top Medical Colleges in India’. According to the recent survey conducted by India Today, ELMC ranked 3rd among the 'Best Emerging Medical Colleges of the Century'. This recognition signifies Era’s excellence in education, innovative teaching methodologies, and culture of research.
