Interview / Entretien
In 2020 we (Daniel Pinheiro, Muriel Piqué and Annie Abrahams) were interviewed by Alix De Morant (researcher at the University Paul Valéry in Montpellier) and Ivan Magrin-Chagnolleau (artist, researcher at the Chapman University, Orange, California) on the subject of Distant Movements.
Finally our exchange got published : Interview about Distant Movements (English version) Entretien au sujet de Distant Movements (version française) Abrahams A., Magrin-Chagnolleau I., de Morant A., Pinheiro D., Piqué M. p-e-r-f-o-r-m-a-n-c-e, Vol 6 2022 (Creation Research)

ENG Of course, since then, thoughts, relations and lives changed. However this exchange clearly highlights our different thoughts on what was/is important in this coming together of different universes through our blind online dance practice and research.
We talked about: origins – “being with” – guidance being an approach of movement by calling it out, not just naming it, but almost hailing it – a practice that allows people to move together at a distance, while trying to interrogate the relationships between what’s happening in their bodies – the process not only depending on what we want and what we think, but also on what we discover in the others and how we can go on with that – using protocols as a way to stability or as a process to change relations, to escape habits – the question of presence inside the rigid frame of videoconferencing – the role of an audience and the influence on dance from the webcam – the incongruity of the dancing body in the private space creating performativity in a place of life – the intermediary / intermedial space, constructed from all the environments in which the participants find themselves – how to experience a certain quality of movement, with the eyes closed, while trying to perceive the other bodies elsewhere moving – the common work is created in the conjunction of all the in situ dances – resonance, enaction, intra-action – ….
“virtual presence can be experienced as more intimate than a physical encounter” Martina Ruhsam interviewed by Beatrix Joyce in “A podcast on the future of dance and performance”, dis[ ]tanz, artconnect.com.

okay, but, like, THAT'S how you do a villain story. in the FIRST scene, you watch him shoot a man in cold blood. the show tells you right away "this man is not a good man".
but then it gets you to sympathize - look at how much the world has stepped on him. look at how terrible the whole of gotham is. and even when he kills more people, does more terrible things, you still root for him. because it's fun to watch someone be terrible to terrible people. you root for sofia too, because if anyone deserves revenge its her, but you're rooting for both of them somehow.
and then the show tells you "when he was a boy he killed his brothers". but even still, you want to see what he'll do. the show is called the penguin, you want to see the penguin rise. when he lets his mother's finger almost get cut off, you pity him. he's a sad, broken thing. how could he be anything but bad? but he loves, so there must be something else there.
but then. but THEN
the show always told you: "this is the devil". but you thought, maybe the devil can make hell a little more bearable for some people. the devil is so often nuanced, sympathetic, complex. maybe he's like that.
you're wrong. there's nothing good within him and YOU rooted for him to succeed. you wanted to watch the destruction. and now you have to live with the consequences of thinking, even for a second, that he could be redeemed.

look, y'all can all gleeful cancel me for this #unpopular opinion if you want, but even IF Nicola wasn't nominated for the comedy section and it was her and Luke head to head in best drama?
I'd still vote for him
because I genuinely and truly think his acting is INCREDIBLE. and I think he's one of the better actors on Bridgerton full stop. I love the nuance he brings to Colin as a character, I love how he so fully embodies him as a character and that Colin has similarities to him, but is fully different at the same time. Colin does not talk like Luke, walk like Luke, even fidget like Luke. He has his own character beats and yes, sometimes parts of Luke bleed into him, such as with the head tilt, but the voice is different, softer, the movements of Colin as a character are distinct to me, he delivers humor well ('you'd already be dead?') and his decisions for Colin as a character are ICONIC (I'm never forgetting that dress adjustment with specific fingers was all him). Colin had a harder go of it than a lot of leads because his story isn't as loud- he doesn't get a lot of big, dramatic moments to have big dramatic acting, and honestly the show didn't give him a lot of screentime in the first place. But when he does have poignant emotional moments? They feel REAL. He isn't given as much time with the audience as other characters are and he doesn't go for the broad strokes with his acting, so sometimes I think he can get lost in some of the louder acting, but that doesn't negate the fact that he's GOOD. He's a good ass actor. He plays Colin like Colin is an actual person.
And for me? For me, that hits home. Even with truncated time on his own season (yeah, I'm still bitter), he delivers every single time. Anger, betrayal, longing, heartache, silly awkward humor, heat- and he does all of those emotions BELIEVABLY. I watched Luke Newton depict Colin falling in love so beautifully and so realistically, I HAVE NO CHOICE but to give him his flowers. Just because he's not as heavy in the hustle as other actors are (please remember this is a neurodivergent actor with anxiety and dyslexia, mental health is important and it's good he took a break ) doesn't mean he's not a fantastic actor. And if you've ever seen his depiction in The Shape of Things? The man is excellent.
I think Bridgerton has a lot of 'big moves' actors. And that's fine. Many people prefer that. But I prefer the nuanced moments and the softer beats of it all, and I think if the camera had allowed us as an audience a longer glimpse into moments with Colin, we'd all be even more floored. I can watch gifs of his scenes over and over and over again and find something new every time.
So y'all can sit there and accuse others of a 'pity vote' but idgaf. Luke Newton is one of the best actors on that show. And I stand by that. Eat me.

So let me get this straight, they were saying those things about Ryan and his friends over a video where they were just playing soccer, and their guy does *that* and they have nothing to say about it?
It has to be outrage baiting on their side at this point right? No way they think that way seriously
Yep. Apparently he "cant even have fun to a song without the BoBs accusing him of being the worst" so, yeah... I don't think they're baiting tho, I think they are that blind. It is driving me crazy that some of them are sharing clips of Kendrick's performance and then sharing his video as if it is a cute little thing.

i say this with peace and love on planet earth: if you genuinely think supernatural or the acting on that show is sooo bad and the worst ever, you need to expand your horizons to the big beautiful world of Bad Media. it will heal your soul. there's so much worse out there, waiting for you. i say this with love.

My great curse as someone who likes listening to actual play shows is that I also love tactics and strategy, and most actual plays are (by nature of being a performance) more focused on telling a good story by letting their characters mess around and screw up, rather than on having those characters be tactically optimal and brilliant.
I've been thinking lately that this is why Skyjacks has become my absolute favorite podcast. Because James D'Amato is an absolutely fantastic GM who not only thinks about how the realistic tactics of the world he's set up would work, but also then gently brings the players into thinking about that kind of thing as well by asking them the right questions and giving them useful information and reminders so that the characters can be competent and clever in a way that the players (who after all do not live in that world) might struggle with.
And of course, that makes it even funnier when James has spent an entire arc politely reminding the crew that they wanted to be incognito and the captain gets up in front of the entire assembled population and accidentally(?) says the name of their very famous ship in a speech.

Reflexive Capture — The Rise of the Algorithmic Double – Part 2
In the expanding architectures of datalogical power, the self is no longer merely a passive object of surveillance or an externalised phenomenon of institutional capture. Rather, it becomes a self-generating artefact, a reflexive construction that emerges through the constant folding of information back into experience, affect, habit, and choice. The individual, once imagined as a discrete…

admittedly this is "old man yells at clouds" energy, but I think it sucks that modern fandom often only conceives of community in the form of discord servers

I was just looking for King Lear performances on YouTube and realized that one audio performance ( I think it's from the arkangel studio) that David Tennant played Edgar is actually available on Shakespeare network channel.
So are his performances in the comedy of errors and in Macbeth for BBC radio.
