After multiple fallen attacks once humble town of Snowdin was turned into a military outpost with the forest around it used to stop the fallen in their tracks once they left the land of exiled.
Snowdin is a harsh place to live in, being constantly surrounded by members of the royal guard gives any misplaced word or action a price too big to pay. This place won't let you leave either, every citizen can theoretically replace a dead guard or serve the ones that are alive.
Once his brother joined the royal guard, Sans had to follow to prevent all the suffering Papyrus will inevitably face, even if to the outsiders he'll be just another rookie. Sans makes little to no progress in his "career", staying at his post as one of the forest overseers. The skeletons couldn't escape the harsh treatment of the guard members, Sans even lost a tooth in one of the meaningless fights he got into.
Any rookie who joins the guard will have to face judgment and suspiction from a crowd of those taught in blood and dust to attack outsiders. Papyrus was one of those rookies. Not having too good of an imposing facade, he had to create one for himself. First was a crack in his skull, caused by one of the trainings, then sharpened teeth after a tough day of humiliation. His determination and skill with traps allowed him to climb up the ladder quick, now he's one of the overseers of the Snowdin forest that he fills with traps and puzzles to prevent the fallen and civilian escapees traversing between the land of the exiled and the rest of the underground.

Long time members of the guard like the hounds seem to been "modified" In some way. Monsters that were in contact with them say that the dogs are "unnaturally soft" And "sticky". Most of them also behave in an unstable manner, some seem to be in a kind of constant trance, others attack everything that moves friend or foe, one of them even had to be restrained. The most sane ones seem to be the dogi, they take care of others, but often lose control.
The hounds often become victims of many traps in the forest, serving as additional obstacles in them.

The town itself is way less jolly and humble then it used to be. Hotels are now also used as barracks and bars serve the rations for the guards, sacrificing warmth and liveliness of the town for practicality.
Everyone who lives on the border between the land of exiled and the rest of the underground has to be under constant watch. Many who misspoke or acted somewhat suspicious were immediately exiled to the ruins, sometimes leaving their children behind (such as monster kid).
Many civilians join the guard under threats of separation from their families via exile. Even when there is no fallen in the underground, life of a guard is not easy, exhausting practice sessions, other fight-hungry members of the guard and civilians and constant scouting for the new fallen.
The only escape rout for those ready to take that risk is a mysterious ferry person that appears at night to transport you to many corners of the underground. Some say that they were once attacked by the high ranking guard members for their activity.

Undertale ???????????: Prologue
(The presented sequence is partially connected to pre-existing project, Sonic: Into, Across and Beyond!, as the Undertale AU that appears as part of the story in places.)
During the events of an aborted No Mercy run, Frisk had given up their killing spree at Papyrus, feeling immensely shameful from the things they did leading up to this point. They decided to head further south of Snowdin Town instead of proceeding onwards to Waterfall, coming to a stop at a cliff edge as Flowey showed up.

Flowey: Kid, what is going on? Weren't you gonna be headed to Waterfall next? You're not gonna get out the Underground like this, kiddo.
Frisk: ... Is this funny to you? Watching me slaughter innocents because of your philosophy of "kill or be killed"? You sure loved rubbing it in, didn't you?
Flowey: Hey, don't look at me! That was YOUR choice to begin with. If you're really wanting to escape the consequences so bad, why not just RESET your SAVE file and avoid killing those monsters this time?
They immediately turned back to the foul flower with anger in their eyes.

Frisk: "Reset"? You seriously think the pain will go away just like that?! What, is this "friendship" some twisted game to you?!
Flowey: Urgh, to think that skeleton made your killing spree come to a halt. Are you seriously that soft?
In response, Frisk drew out their Toy Knife, approaching Flowey and glaring hatefully at him.
Flowey: You do realise I'm in charge here, right?! You idiot! What's your big idea, anyway?!
Frisk: ...to wipe YOU off this miserable planet!
Flowey, though fearful at first about this intention, let out an evil cackle.
Flowey: You see now? I HATE you! Every second that passes when you're around is much more miserable than the last! And it's always been that way, in EVERY timeline!
Frisk: What did you say?!

Flowey: You heard me right, kid! The only time I felt any joy here is when I get to watch you die in these timelines. Hundreds of deaths. Endlessly gruesome! ENDLESSLY satisfying! When I look at you, I don't see some "brave hero" or whatever you think you are! All I see are my favourite memories, playing over, and over, AND OVER! And you wanna know the best part?
Flowey said this as Frisk dealt the first blow, still gleeful and relishing in his words as he was being hacked to pieces.
Flowey: Even if you kill me here, I know how this story is destined to end! There's never been any escaping it! You're nothing but a husk for some otherworldly power to use as they please, and this world likewise remains kill or be killed! This mountain may as well be your coffin, because you're already dead! HAHAHA! You hear that?! You're DEAD!
Flowey cackled over and over like the complete and utter maniac he is as Frisk dealt blow after blow to him, though as they did so, reality itself began distorting around them, with both of them outright blacking out once it got too much for either of them to handle.

Sans walked through the snow, each step softly crunching under his feet. Snowdin certainly lived up to its name, there was a lot of it. It was real lucky that skeletons couldn't feel the cold. However, the cold was the last thing Sans had on his mind.
It had been in a blink of an eye. Gaster was there, and then he wasn't. The noise that the CORE made, mixed with the shriek of agony, it would be a sound that would haunt Sans forever. The CORE always been that dangerous, and Sans had no idea. He had been so close to it many times, every time unaware. The idea made him sick to his nonexistent stomach, and he wanted to curl up in the snow and cry. However, there was one reason he didn't, and the only other thing he could feel. It was the young skeleton he was carrying, who clung to him tightly. Papyrus had no idea what was going on, where their dad was or why they had traveled all this way. Sans had to keep himself together for Papyrus, he couldn't stress his little brother out. If anything, Papyrus' calmness was helping Sans as well. At the same time, Papyrus was less aware. That didn't matter. Sans would tell Papyrus, eventually. Sans could feel the eyes of other monsters on him, and he didn't care. He knew he probably looked out of place, all these other monsters had skin and fur/scales. A young skeleton walking by himself holding an even younger skeleton was probably the most unusual thing a lot of these monsters had ever seen. He just kept his head low and kept walking. He wasn't sure where he was going, not that it particularly mattered. Papyrus was being unusually quiet, but Sans knew the little babybones was probably just tired. They were on 3 days of travelling now? It was rough, but Sans kept pushing his feelings down and pushing on. He'd probably just break down later, right? For now, Sans pushed his cheekbones up into a strained smile. The cold also helped freeze it into place. All Sans had to do is just keep his negative emotions down. ---- Sans could feel the stares on him, but he didn't care. The other monsters stared a lot.
It was also probably because he hadn't left his house much in the past while, other than to put up more posters. He was now walking through town, this little human attached to him. Rather, he was attached to them. The nameless human kid, or the one Sans presumed was too shy to share their name, was being quiet. With the silence, Sans started to think.
In the back of his mind, he knew what he was doing was not the correct way to cope. Cope wasn't a good word, Papyrus wasn't dead. At least Sans hoped he wasn't. He still could understand that this wasn't the best way to go about things. He was projecting his treatment of his little brother onto this random kid, who seemed to be nice enough to endure it. Sans didn't know what to feel anymore, so this was the best he felt he could do in the moment.
He had tried damn near everything else in the first week. Creating the posters, calling everyone he knew, talking to Undyne and the Royal Guard. All Sans could do now was hold onto hope, hope that his brother would show up unharmed and things could go back to normal. As more time passed, it became less likely. Sans didn't want to think about that. They finally reached the home the two brothers once shared, Sans prying open the door. The human walked over and sat on the couch, sinking into it. Sans sat down next to them, watching as they wiggled their legs on the edge. He then turned on the TV, the previously unused device flickering to life, filling up the otherwise dark home with a soft light. Him and the human watched TV, but Sans wasn't really watching. His mind was elsewhere, still trying to process his emotions. He didn't even notice when the human slowly fell asleep on the couch. Sans was just reflecting more on himself. As of now, he had gone past the point of crying, not that he ever did before. When he was sad or mad, he always kept himself composed. He never broke down, as much as he wanted to. Hell, even when their dad died he never broke a tear! He should be crying now, for all's sake his brother was gone! It didn't make him a bad monster to not cry... Did it?

Can I have some skeletons brothers arguments? Like time they really got angry with each other.
Undertale Sans - Sans is pretty chill and forgiveful, and he really didn't have a lot of reasons to get mad at Papyrus as he grew up as, even if he was quite a rebel in his young years, Papyrus was just respectful of all the hard work his brother did to keep them both alive when they were homeless. There's one time though when Sans got mad, well freaked-out mad actually. Papyrus was obsessed by this new scarf his brother stole bought for him, and one day, it got quite dirty. The young kids in town kept mocking him because of this and called him bad names. Despite being a snow storm announced, and Sans firmly forbidding him to get out, Papyrus waited for him to leave for one of his jobs before going to the river to wash the scarf himself. Papyrus fell in the very cold water and only survived because one of the Snowdin Rabbit saw everything and ran to get him out. Papyrus felt so ashamed, and even more when Mrs Rabbit told everything to Sans, who screamed at him for being so immature. Papyrus got angry too, telling that it wouldn't have happened if he listened to what he got to say and that now he will be the talk of the town and that all the kids will make fun of him. Sans slowly calmed down and tried to explain he was just very worried, but Papyrus refused to talk to him before the next day. That's one of the very rare arguments they had in their childhood and Sans still feels a little guilty, thinking that maybe he could have done something else.
Undertale Papyrus - Well clearly that time he let Sans borrow his car and Sans came back with it totally destroyed because he fell asleep driving and hit a wall. Sans promised to pay for the damages, but Papyrus screamed back that he didn't care about the damages but about his narcolepsy which was becoming more and more of a problem because he could have killed himself! He won't force his brother to have a medical appointment, but he will surely call him out on it to make him think about what could have happened if he had driven faster.
Underswap Sans - Blue used to not understand very well Honey's hypersensibility when younger, and there's this one time when he pressured him to get a job for days, driving Honey more and more into a corner until he decided for him and getting him hired in a random place. Honey finally snapped, screaming why he is doing this to him, that he was so insensitive, and that it was not by forcing his hand that he would be better. Blue answered back that if he was normal, he wouldn't be in this situation in the first place. That was too much for Honey, who left the house and disappeared for two weeks. Blue realized his mistake eventually and when he found him finally, he apologized for not respecting his boundaries. That talk however left a mark and Honey never talked with him about his neurodivergence, preferring Asgore or Undyne to talk about these types of things.
Underswap Papyrus - One big fight they had was about Blue's tendency to run towards danger before thinking of a plan, which led him to get shot not even three weeks after he engaged himself in the police. Blue shakes it off like it's nothing, but Honey screams at him to make him realize it is not just about him, that people care about him and that getting himself killed won't make him a hero in the eyes of the people he loves, just someone who died. Blue took a step back and calmed down after that.
Underfell Sans - They fight all the time, but that one time Edge came home all proud saying he engaged in the Royal Guard was one of the memorable ones. Red worked his ass off to make sure to keep his brother far away from the Royal Guard, because he was too nice and it was obvious he would die in the first few days, but Edge refused to listen to him. They both screamed a lot this night, Red insulting him a lot, then screaming at him to just die then if he doesn't trust him that much. Red is still feeling bitter about this, even years after Edge became Captain. He lived it like a failure, as he didn't manage to protect his little brother from the horrors of the Underground.
Underfell Papyrus - Once they arrived on the Surface, Edge proposed they could live in different houses to give each other some space to heal. Red took that as his brother not wanting to be near him anymore and snapped at him, screaming that if he wanted to get rid of him all these years, he just had to kill him himself, that he is a coward and that's not how their relationship will fix. They avoid each other for three months after that until Undyne gets tired of their bullshit and locked them in both in a room to fix their bond.
Horrortale Sans - The biggest they ever had was when Willow realized Oak tricked him into eating human meat. Oak knew Willow would never have done it willingly, but he was also becoming weaker and weaker. Oak couldn't stay there and do nothing, so he pretended he found some food in the dump and force-fed him. Willow found the corps later in the forest and stomped back home to scream at Sans that what he did was wrong and that he made him his partner in crime when he never wanted to hurt any human in the first place. Willow never totally forgave Oak for this, but after three weeks of living in the Ruins with Toriel, the Queen managed to convince him Oak did that only to protect him, and that he didn't think wrong. Willow reluctantly agreed to see him again.
Horrortale Papyrus - The first time Oak realized Willow brought Undyne's and Alphys' dust on the Surface and gave them a tomb. Oak screamed he didn't understand anything and that he is clearly naive if he thought Undyne felt anything for him again in the end. Willow answered back that he knew that, but that he wanted his friend to go to the Surface, the one that died at the beginning of the famine when she became Emperess of the Underground. He doesn't need his permission anyway because not everyone pretends everything is fine since they're on the Surface when all they do is struggle to adapt. He called Oak a hypocrite, and they refuse to talk to each other for a few days.
Swapfell Sans - Nox snapped at him when he saw him drunk on the couch, drugged, one night he came home on the Surface, as Rus promised he wouldn't do this again. Nox tried to wake him up, Rus attacked him violently, saying he was pissing him off with all his lectures when he was not even able to apply them himself. It was a one-sided argument, as Rus was too far gone to answer, but Nox felt so hurt he kept hurting himself now that they had a chance to do things right again he left him a letter and disappeared for two months to travel. When he came on, Rus actually learned his lesson and started therapy to be better. Everything got better in the end.
Swapfell Papyrus - One massive argument the brothers had was when Sans was hired in the Royal Guard. To protect his brother, a young teenager at the time, Sans asked the Queen if he could propose Rus for adoption, so he wouldn't wear his name and therefore avoid being threatened by his rivals. Nox refused to talk about this to his brother before the agents knocked on his door to take him away. Obviously, Rus didn't take it well and ran away by the window. Nox, full of guilt, searched him for weeks, only to find him hired by the resistance, against the Queen. He dragged Rus out of there, but Rus never forgave him, which is one of the numerous reasons the brothers almost decided to never see each other again a few days before the barrier broke, before Nox finally tried to fix their relationship.
Fellswap Gold Sans - It was in their childhood. One of Coffee's best friends had been sentenced to death for stealing something in the weapon building of the Royal Guard. Wine had been designed to be the executioner. Coffee begged him for days to not do it, that he would never forgive him, but he did anyway, because what other choice did he have? When he came home, however, Coffee had packed all his things and disappeared. Wine searched him for weeks before finally spotting him sleeping outside in Waterfall, famished and injured because some monsters tried to kill him. Wine apologized, but Cofffee didn't say a word to him for two long years, before starting to tolerate him again. Wine still wonders if he could have done things differently.
Fellswap Gold Papyrus - When after several years on the Surface, Coffee entered into a relationship with a human, Wine wasn't very enthusiastic. However, they both snapped at each other when after some months, Coffee decided to live with their partner and Wine refused, pretexting he couldn't guarantee his security and that he doesn't allow it. Coffee screamed that he was not a child anymore and he had nothing to allow him since he was a responsible adult who could make his own choices. Wine, in psychological distress, tried to keep him in his room, but Coffee left by the window. He texted him to call him once he calmed down and realized how ridiculous he was. Wine will eventually, awkwardly. It's hard to let go of his old habits, but he's willing to try.

This one is really to just show the morality of Disk and Eden

Slight update: i sketched 'em up

Another universe, this one bubbling with life. Disk noted that this might be a neutral timeline. Considering that there are no major Monsters dead, but they aren't on the surface either.
Disk was walking through Snowdin town. Making other monsters turn their head from confusion, since when was there another skeleton?
On this small trip Disk had brought a large bag with him, filled with.. fireworks? The skeleton has yet again planned something stupid for him to do just for the sake of passing time.
He made his way to the decorated tree in the dead centre of the town, and begun placing the fireworks on the branches. While putting up the "decorations", he tried to ignore the curious Monster Kid that was stumbling towards him.
"Yo, i've never seen you here before!" The kid tried to open up a conversation. Disk just side-eyed him quickly and tried focusing on his project. "Uh, cool decors'! I've never seen thing like that before, what are they?" MK said, still trying to get Disk to talk.
"Fireworks, they spit out some wicked colours." Disk hoped that this brief explanation would make the tiny monster leave him be. But no, that just got the Kid more interested.
Disk tried to ignore the many questions the young one was spitting at him. But the annoying babbling was getting on his nerves.
Disk finally placed the last firework and connected all of them with a singular wire. "If you wanna see what they look like in action, stay right there, as close as possible." Disk smirked and looked at the kid. He knew damn well what he was doing.
The MK sat down intrigued by the upcoming lightshow. Disk begun to walk away, with the wire on his hands, the line was long enough to reach the outskirts of the town. There Disk sat down on the snowy ground and called at a nearby conveniently shaped lamp. "Yo Eden, come check it out! Since ya wanted to see what fireworks look like, i set 'em up just for you."
Eden, who was hiding behind the lamp just complained in return. "I don't wanna go out there. There's people."
"Aw c'mon stop whining, this 's so cool and ya are gonna be missin' it soon." Disk kept convincing him. And after a slight silence Eden groaned and walked from behind the lamp. And sat down on the cold snow, right next to Disk.
Eden just stared at the bubbling city from where he was. "So uh, where's the fireworks?" He asked.
"In that tree, ya see?" Disk pointed at the decorated spruce.
"No, i can't see." Eden squinted his eyes only seeing the silhouette of the tree, his eyes really aren't top notch. And he had the great idea to leave his glasses back in Enchanttale.
"Well whateva, ya are gonna see the explosion anyway since the colours are brighter than a supernova." Disk giggled.
"Wait wait wait. Explosion?" Eden realised "But ain't that town full of people?" He started panicking, and shot a worried look at Disk.
"Yup, but it's worth it, the tree's decorations leave a glittery snowfall after the explosions." Disk tried to elaborate his decision.
Wow. That is his excuse of potentially harming people. Eden felt his anger raising fast. "WHAT DO YOU MEAN 'WORTH IT', SOME MONSTERS COULD DIE FROM THIS EXPLOSION OF YOURS?" Eden shouted, the lights in his sockets were shaky.
"Damn chill, there are millions of other timelines where these people are living a happy life, one ruined AT ain't the end of the world." Disk rolled his eyes.
Eden went quiet with the desire to protest, but he already felt quilty for yelling at the very person who took him away from a doomed life. Whatever. Disk knows better than i do. I'm being too sensitive about this. It's just a timeline. Just. A. Timeline.
Eden scolded himself.
Disk snapped his fingers and pointed again at the tree, waking Eden up from his thoughts.
Silence, both were preparing themselves mentally for the upcoming lightshow.
After the wait, Disk set the line on fire. Eagerly waiting for the look on Eden's face.
The aftermath. People were screaming in horror, standbyers dusted. Eden stared in horror.
But the lights were beautiful. Disk smiled.

Here is some Killer/Cross.
I've been meaning to post this for forever. I asked @unknownarmageddon a long time ago if they wanted more fics, and what would they prefer. Annnnd this is what I've come up with, some Killer/Cross and I thought this was a good combo of sad and cute <3 Enjoy~
Wind rushing past his face, the fluff of his hood is soaked from the waterfall he “fell” into. His stupid teammate, friend, lover, whatever they were, decided to play around when they were on a mission, which shouldn't be as surprising as it was anymore. Killer had been acting strange all day and it all led to Killer deciding that “they should play a game”. He said it was a simple game of tag, but nothing was ever simple when it came to Killer.
If Cross could catch him the game would end, but if Killer tagged Cross, they would go to another AU of Killers choosing and the roud would go until Cross or Killer tagged one another. They had been running around a Fell AU and when Killer and gently tapped a finger to the tops of his skull, he could see his next request would be a big one. He asked for Cross to bring him to his home AU and he hesitated. He didnt want to bring him anywhere near that hellhole anymore, but with Killers sharp tounge and quick talking skills, it made him irrational. He never did have the best impulse control.
So when the portal opened, he ended up in a echo flower field in Waterfall. The next thing he knew was being shoved into the nearest waterfall, but when he went to look for Killer, there was no “playful banter” to follow. Instead Killer had vanished. He searched the whole area, no sign f him or any of the residents of the world. It was so quiet, he can only imagine how Killer had felt when he was stuck here. 
Eventually he made his way to Snowdin, an empty skeleton brother home, door wide open yet no turned on lights or footprints to be seen. As he made it into the town, instead of silence and darkness, he saw Grilby’s with the lights all on and music so loud he could hear it from several buildings away. It was some kind of swing or jazz music. He didnt know for sure, as he had never been musically inclined. He sighed as he opened the door, a strong warmth hits hom and takes the edge off the harsh chill that set in his bones. 
At the bar he saw Killer sitting at a stool with one empty bottle at his right and he was nursing a tumbler with a copper liquid in it. His bones were fish with magic and his grip on the glass was strong. He was already past his limit. As he took his first step inside and the door closed loudly. 
“Killer…”
“Heya Criss Cross!”
“Why are we here Killer?” He said walking to the bar. 
“Today…” He took a large drink from his glass. “Today is the day I said yes to Chara.”
Cross stood dumbfounded. Killer wasnt one to dwell on the past if he could help it and he really hated talking about what happened in his timeline. Cross started at Killer twirl the ice in his glass with the tip of his finger. He could see the thick tar dripping from his chin to the bar counter and even with the loud music playing he could hear the steady PLOP that the tar made as it fell. Cross was never great with helping with emotional problems, he could barely stay stable with his own. Yet Killer… Killer was different. Someone who he wanted to help, no matter what. So he grabbed a stood and sat right next to him. 
“Do you want to talk about it?”
“It aint a nice story.” Cross showed him a gentle smile.
“Most of our stories arent.” He placed his left hand over Killers right and all he could think to do was gently rub the knuckles. It made Killer huff.
“I thought it was the right choice at the time.”
“At the time its all you could do.”
“That monster thought it was the coolest to have my abilities… but in the end I won. I got my body and I got their powers for a little while. Course I got all their baggage and torment, a fucked up soul that taunts everyone by being visible. Almost fees like it wasn’t worth it.”
“But…” Cross got Killer to glance his way. “You got us in the end, so you already feel much more love than LOVE than Charac did.”
Killer set down his glass and smacked the counter, letting out loud barking laughter. The tar falling from his eyes slowed and the tar seemed to thin as there were tears falling from his eyes. Between laughter there were sobs. But he took a deep breath and squeezed his sockets tight. When he opened them again, Cross saw the small white eye light looking his way.
“Oh boy, Crossy. That was corny.”
“You know you love it.” He chuckled as Killer put his glass to his teeth again, yet now there was no air of sadness, in fact is was happy. So to keep that mood going Cross asked for Killer to tell him stories. Funny stories from his world, about his brother, about anything at all. Killer happily obliged. One drink, slowly turned to two, then to six and Killer giggled as he sloppily sang to the music playing and when Cross decided it was time to go home Killer hoisted himself up as if he hadn’t drank a drop. Cross opened a portal and once inside the familiar walls of the castle he noticed the stagger in Killer’s steps. 
“Heya Criss Cross, take me to my room.”
“You can walk on your own. Ive seen it.”
“But I’m having a bad day.” He leaned into Cross’s side as he let out some soft laughter.
“You’ll live Mr. Giggles.”
“But woe is me!” Killer dramatically thrusted his arms into the air and began to fall. But ever the gentleman Cross was, he caught him in his arms.
“Woe is not you! Get up and get to bed!” he laughed the whole time he could see Killer getting comfortable in his arms. He could barely keep his eyes open and with some failed attempts at flirting towards Cross, he finally fell silent. Crss could only laugh as he gave in to Killers' demand. He tightened his grip and leaned Killer's head against his chest, Killer holding tight to his jacket. 
“We will go to my room tonight.” With a gentle clank to the top of Killers skull he felt Killer nuzzle into his chest more. He mumbled a bit yet Cross heard something very clearly. 
“Mmm I love you.” Killers sleep filled voice made Cross stop walking and his grip on him tightened. 
Love.
It was a word that he hadnt said with anyone since their relationship started. He could eel his soul pund in his ribs  and heat rise to his face. Love was a word Killer threw around all the time, but as Cross heard his gentle breathing, the word felt different. Did he love Killer?
He slowly got his feet moving and he found his way to his room. The door was open and there stood Dust, Horror, and Nightmare. All he could do was give them a tired smile. Horror took Killer from his arms and Dut pulled Cross towards his bed. He barely got to kick off his boots and jacket before he was lying with Dust on his chest, Horror to his left with Killer in his arms, and Nightmare to his right, his tentacles gently wrapping his way around them all. He could feel a gentle movement coming from Dust's scar, telling him Gwah was there with them. His family. His loves.

How would Swan and Reader gain allies? Maybe do a fic about them gaining one?
Tbh most allies gained would be purely on accident, due to both the disconnected nature of AUs and the relative lack of Swan being actually known about.
Another day, another run in with Dream. The two of you had been "stealing" materials from a garbage dump area in a relatively stable AU when Dream showed up again. Another fight, although this time you both were a bit weighed down by metal parts you'd collected. You'd been messing around with a "sonar blast" kind of spell that came in handy for knocking a pile on top of junk onto Dream, giving you both a chance to get away. You had a headache afterwards, but it was worth it.
Nightmare portaled at random, as per usual reaching blindly for the next best area with the most negativity. Occasionally they'd be within reach of an ally nowadays, but most often they ended up in a random Underground. Negativity levels dropped massively in most surface reaching AU, and that was also when Dream tended to strike and assimilate the AU into his horde.
But this was an Underground. Some form of "Fell" type, judging by how grey with monster dust the snow was. You pulled a charm out of your bag and activated it, making yourself appear to be a monster instead of a human. The illusion wouldn't hold up in a fight, but at least you wouldn't be stabbed on the spot for being a human in a Fell type Underground.
Nightmare made a face at the illusion. "I'll never get over how different that makes you look."
"Awww, missing my human form already?"
"Definitely."
"So how much supplies did we lose?"
"A pretty sizeable chunk, including some of the more important parts."
"Think we can sneak to the garbage dump here without getting shanked?"
"I'm up to try. If we can jump straight to Sci's after I recover that would be ideal."
You nodded. Sneaking through the forest of Snowdin was easy enough. Sneaking through town was much harder, but you thought you were doing pretty well until-
"HEY! YOU TWO! WHAT ARE YOU MISCREANTS DOING, SNEAKING AROUND?!"
You were grabbed before you could react, spun around to face- a Sans? Must be a Swapfell. Or Fellswap? Who knows exactly.
"Uhhhh..."
"A SKELETON?! I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT MY LAZY GOOD FOR NOTHING BROTHER AND I ARE THE ONLY SKELETONS IN THE UNDERGROUND! WHAT ARE YOU UP TO, IMPOSTER?!"
This was going to go nowhere. You took advantage of the fact that this Sans was too focused on Nightmare to pat attention to you humming. Nothing major, just a small spell to-
Oh damn, this guy went down like a sack of bricks. Leaving him out in the open was dumb, so you decided to get him into the house. Good thing Nightmare knew how to pick locks!
Of course, his brother was still home and then a commotion woke Sans back up and it wasn't long before you were tied up and interrogated.
But hey, at least you made it out with a few nasty bruises! And another AU willing to side with you!
Sci definitely scolded you both on needing to be more careful though.

Chapter 4: Around Town
Back at the shop...
"28, 29 and 30!" Sans knew that the residents of Snowdin were generous, but not THIS generous! Nonetheless, it seems like Cottin didn't pay much mind to it. Heh... pay. "There you go, boys. That should help with the next month. Although you two should probably get real jobs soon."
Huh, turns out Papyrus was right about being truthful about their situation. They did discuss this on the way back, but still.
"hey, thanks. you really didn't have to do this. any of this. it was just a delivery."
"Oh, no, of course! It was no problem on my behalf. Besides, that one delivery must have worn you two out already, seeing as Papyrus is covered in snow."
Whoops! "I-I-I... UH... WELL... IT WAS AN ACCIDENT!" The overconfident skeleton puffed out his chest. "UM... I WAS ACTUALLY WONDERING SOMETHING..."
"Oh, you're wondering something, huh?"
Papyrus appeared to deflate a little. He had been thinking about this on and off for most of the day...
"UM... DO YOU... HATE US??"
"...Huh?"
Papyrus began to fidget with his scarf anxiously. "WELL, EVER SINCE THE SNOWBALL INCIDENT, I'VE STARTED THINKING. I CAME HERE TO MAKE FRIENDS, AND OBVIOUSLY, I WOULD STILL BE A REALLY COOL FRIEND!!! BUT... UM... I KNOW I CAN GET A BIT CARRIED AWAY SOMETIMES... A-AND I KNOW IT'S JUST HOW I AM, B-BUT IF YOU'RE STILL WILLING TO HAVE US HERE, I PROMISE, I'LL TRY MY ABSOLUTE HARDEST TO-"
Cottin out up her hands to placate the anxious skeleton. "Wait wait wait! Hold on, relax! It's okay, nobody hates you two!"
Sans perked up. "really? we're not gonna get kicked outta town or anything like that?"
Oh god, where were they getting these ideas from? "No, no! We forgave you for the avalanche, it's fine!"
Neither skeleton looked particularly convinced. Suppose Auntie Cottin has to fix things.
"Look, you two. Before you came to town, life was very, uh, what's the word... boring. That avalanche last week was the most exciting thing that ever happened to Snowdin, at least in my lifetime, anyway. You two really know how to spice up our lives."
Cottin turned to Papyrus. "I saw what you did to the library's sign. It was pretty funny. And the ladies seem to really like your enthusiasm for puzzles."
Then Sans. "And Bun came in and told me all about how you handled Jerry earlier. That was really cool, if I do say so myself."
Cottin observed the brothers' reactions. They seemed to have perked up a bit. Well, time for the kicker.
"What I'm trying to say is, you two breathed new life into Snowdin in ways that we couldn't possibly imagine. And there's no way we're gonna get rid of you, or hate you, or anything like that. And you know, I'm more than happy to help with your rent and food situation. If it means you two can get back on your feet."
That speech... That sent a warm feeling through both the brothers' souls. Sans' smile appeared warmer and more genuine, and Papyrus' eyes practically sparkled from unshed tears. They like them! They're not gonna get kicked out! This is amazing!
Papyrus wiped his eyes. "THANK YOU, MISS!!!"
"Cottin. Call me Cottin."
"THANK YOU, MISS COTTIN!"
"Hey, what's an auntie for?"
Sans tittered.
"...You still need to get a job, though."
"yeah, we know."
The next day, Papyrus decided to practice some ice skating, when he caught the sight of... Were those the rotting crates he performed that song on? And what was Sans doing behind them?
He skated over. "HEY, BROTHER!!! WHAT ON EARTH ARE YOU DOING?!"
Sans leaned against the "counter". "selling some hotdogs. they sell fast. do you want one?"
"NO!!! I DON'T LIKE GREASE, YOU KNOW THAT!!! DO YOU EVEN HAVE A PERMIT FOR THAT HOTDOG STAND??"
"wait, you need a permit?"
Oh, my Asgore... Papyrus groaned and facepalmed at Sans' ignorance. He knows how clever Sans is, so why...?
He clasped his hands together and gestures towards Sans. "SANS... THAT'S ILLEGAL."
"eh, it's not illegal if you get caught."
"WHERE DID YOU LEARN THAT???"
"dunno, just a quote i heard."
"OH MY GOD... WHEN DID YOU LEARN TO MAKE HOT DOGS?"
"i didn't. i just found these water sausages and decided to make hot dogs out of it."
"SANS, THAT'S CALLED SCAMMING PEOPLE!!!"
"hey, they pay the bills. and it's already popular."
Hmm... Under normal circumstances, Papyrus wouldn't allow this to happen. But since it's all they have right now...
"FINE. I WON'T TELL ANYONE ABOUT YOUR DISHONEST SCAM."
"thanks, buddy. by the way, you found a job yet?"
Hmm, now that is a question... A question Papyrus has to think about. He gazed into the distance, where a lone sentry station sat. It was surrounded by used dog treats. Seems like someone had been smoking them.
"papyrus?"
Papyrus was too lost in thought to answer. The sentry station...

WIP 2 - Dancing
I'm going to post a bunch of WIPs in a row now. maybe with a little feedback I'll get the gumption to finish one of them.
A bit of info on them first. I wrote all of these in an effort to deal with an exceptionally bad break-up (might as well call it a divorce, we lived together for 6 years). A lot of these are "how it should've gone" type stuff. I was never able to decide if they should be a full chapter by chapter "novel" or just a bunch of oneshots within the same universe and make a collection of them in order or whatever. Maybe I'll drop them to Ao3 as well. They are all xfem!Readers with my blorbos Grillby and Gaster (though most have no anatomy mentioned, so you can safely read no matter what gender you are). I'd appreciate a glance through if nothing else.
This one is of fem!Reader in a developed poly relationship with Grillby and Gaster (returned from the Void). Reader is very self-conscious about dancing, and the boys help her out. Again, female pronouns are used, but it's not heavily gendered so anyone can read with minor mental substitutions.
“And that should do it,” Gaster muttered.
You looked over from where you were working on the next section of a mural (a snowy scene in honor of Snowdin Town) above Grillby’s alcohol shelves to watch one slightly-droopy skeletal Monster unfold from the uncomfortable crouch he had been in behind the ancient jukebox. He sometimes reminded you of a tree; thin, all limbs, and impossibly tall. He stretched (only adding to the tree imagery), sighing as his spine popped. “How long do you think this repair will last?” you asked with a smirk.
“Not long enough,” he replied, giving the jukebox a stern look. “There are days I wonder if it breaks down just to mock me. Former Royal Scientist, and I can’t even keep a simple music player in working order.”
“I’m sure it would be happier if we could get the right parts for it. Now if only we knew what those were,” you said, turning back to your work. If you could just get the highlight on this pine branch right, you’d also be a lot happier…
Gaster mumbled something, making you snicker. As much as he grouched, you knew he’d happily play handyman as often as needed for Grillby’s sake.
‘Grillby’s’ had been in business on the Surface for just over a year, and his beloved, cobbled-together jukebox remained a staple in the corner just as it had in the Underground. You believed the shell was mostly that of a Rock-Ola Luxury Light while the interior mechanism was Frankenstein-ed from a Wurlitzer OMT-CD changer and several car stereos, but it was made from so many countless odds and ends that had found their way into the Underground that it was impossible to know for sure. Honestly, it was no surprise when it didn’t work and a miracle when it did. Grillby adored the thing and would never replace it nor let it be gutted and retrofitted with something more modern (sentimentality generally won out over practicality with him), which meant you, Sans, or Alphys were tasked with reviving when it inevitably broke down every few weeks. It had been slightly better behaved since Gaster’s…‘return’ four or so months ago, but it still liked to kick up a fuss, finding ever more creative ways to stop functioning, seemingly just to keep the skeleton on his toes.
The mural was a recent idea. Grillby had always felt that top of the shelving was too bare, but was reluctant to put anything up there that he would have to regularly dust. You’d suggested some pictures, Gaster had jumped in with the idea of a mural, and then somehow your Monster beaus had convinced you to get up on a ladder and do it yourself. You could handle the height as long as you didn’t look straight down. At all. (Your knees still shook when you remembered you were not standing on the floor and it took a few moments of deep breathing to get them to stop.)
“I believe I have this beast in working order, for now at least,” Gaster answered grumpily.
The “‘Fire’ Exit” opened, and Grillby came in with another tray of pint glasses from the dishwasher. “How are things coming along out here?” he asked, setting it on the bar to put the glasses away.
“It certainly is finicky,” Grillby said fondly. “And how about you?” A warm hand gently tapped your leg.
“Fine,” you answered shortly, thought it was not actually ‘fine’ in your opinion. You added a touch more yellow to the mix for the highlight and went to try again.
A sudden, loud scraping sound made you jump, dropping your paintbrush and palette in favor of clinging onto the ladder for dear life. “Sorry, sorry!” Gaster yelped, the noise stopping as abruptly as it had started. You felt pressure on your back and on your arm. Glancing at your arm, you found one of Gaster’s summoned hands gripping your bicep. What you felt on your back was probably another, the pair helping to keep you steady. “Sorry,” he said again, sheepishly this time. “I was attempting to push the beast back into place since I still can’t lift it. I should have warned you first.”
You blew out a long sigh. “Please tell me I didn’t scream.”
“You didn’t scream,” Grillby said far too cheerfully.
You looked down and immediately wished you hadn’t as a wave of vertigo hit you. You shut your eyes and went back to clinging. “Sorry for dropping everything on you,” you said once you were sure your voice wouldn’t squeak. “Nothing got on you, did it?”
“All’s well. I caught them,” he answered. You carefully looked down again, making sure to look at him and not the floor. He had indeed somehow caught both the brush and the palette without a drop of paint on him or anything else.
“Reflexes of a cat,” you muttered.
He shrugged, grinning. “What can I say; bar tricks keep me in practice.” The smile waned, flames dipping slightly. “Why don’t you take a break? You’ve been working on that for a while.”
You looked back at the mural and sighed. “In a bit. There’s just a few more things I want to get right before stopping for the night.” You held out a hand for your things back.
“You said that before Wings got here, and again just before he started working on the jukebox. You really should take a break. Give your eyes and your hand a rest, hm?”
“Just this one highlight, please? I almost have it right.”
“I’m holding your brush and paint hostage. Come down. You’re taking a break,” Grillby said flatly.
“…Meanie.”
“Yes, I am truly the cruelest Monster in existence,” he said with a merry crackle.
Slowly, one rung at a time, you came down the ladder, Gaster’s summoned hand still reassuringly on your back. You could’ve melted the moment your feet touched the floor. “Oh, terra firma, I’ve missed you so,” you sighed lovingly, gazing at the worn planks.
The elemental snorted, giving your hair an affectionate ruffle as he handed you your brush and palette. “Go wash these while I help Wings get the ‘beast’ back where it belongs.”
You raised an eyebrow. “Or I could go back up and finish that section off now that I have everything back,” you said with a mischievous smirk.
“You won’t. Your legs are still shaking,” Grillby said over his shoulder as he rounded the bar counter.
You watched the two Monsters dance. They moved easily, elegantly through the steps of some form of ballroom dance – foxtrot, maybe? – as though they had done it hundreds of times before. Maybe they had, now that you thought about it, forgotten during the time that Gaster was…‘missing,’ but now remembered. Grillby’s flames were vibrant orange and yellow, laughing as Gaster spun him out, then back to his chest. Gaster caught him and nuzzled his cheek, his own colored with a soft lavender blush. There was a pang in your chest. You wanted to dance, too…
You huffed, because of course he was right, and went to the bathroom to wash/scrape the paint off of yourself and everything else.

But you couldn’t. It just wasn’t a thing that was possible, at least not with them. You would just end up looking like an idiot and ruining their fun. It would be better to just keep quiet. At least you still could enjoy their happiness.
The song ended and the next began. They kissed before parting to give each other a silly, theatrical bow, still riding high on their shared fun. And then Gaster turned to you, holding out a hand. “May I have the next dance, starshine?” he asked, giving you a bow of your own. Grillby looked you expectantly, still grinning wildly from his own.
Crap. You forced a smile as you waved the hand away. “No, I’m fine. You guys can continue.”
“Nonsense! There’s no need to be left out,” he laughed.
Except you shouldbe. Dancing wasn’t something for you to do, but denying him would disappoint him, and accepting would only prove him wrong. No matter how you answered, you were going to let him down. “I’m…still shaky from being up on the ladder. Legs are tired from holding me up for so long, you know?” you tried dodging the invitation again.
“Is that so? Are you sure you aren’t being shy?” Gaster teased, flexing his outstretched hand in a beckoning motion, unaware of your mounting anxiety. “It’s just us, dearest. Come, dance with me.”
“I-I don’t know how to,” you said, feeling your expression falter. You saw Grillby’s flames dim out of the corner of your eye, catching your mood-shift.
“…Pardon?” Gaster’s face fell as he straightened, clearly puzzled by your response.
“Then I’ll teach you!”
Your smile left completely. “You can’t,” you said softly, hugging yourself.
Grillby, however, knew where your thoughts were heading. Worriedly, he put a hand on your shoulder. “Sweet spark, no. Whatever he told you, you know it isn’t true, and you knowit isn’t what we think.”
Gaster’s eyelights darted to Grillby and back. “Starshine, what’s wrong?”
You took a breath, trying to force down the hurt inside you. You reached up to grip Grillby’s fingers. “It’s just something my…my ex-fiancé told me.” The silence stretched between the three of you. You didn’t want to admit what was wrong to them; it was stupid, it was pointless, it didn’t matter…
You started talking to fill the silence. “H-he said he knew how to dance, and in lots of different styles, too. I always wanted to dance with him, but he told me we couldn’t because I didn’t know how. So I asked him to teach me, but he said it wasn’t possible. We couldn’t even go to a class or something together because I…He told me I was too short, said he couldn’t dance with someone so much smaller than him, even if I know how to. And whenever I asked if we could just do that hug-and-sway thing, he’d just dismiss as not actually dancing. So we just…didn’t dance,” you said without looking at them, feeling the tears welling up. You’d meant stop talking there – surely they’d think the rest of the story was pointless and whiny and you were dumb for still being hung up on it – but the words kept coming. “A-and after…a-after he cheated on me and then tried to keep both of us, h-he would tell…t-tell me how he would dance with them.” You bit your lip hard, hoping to keep it from trembling. You were ashamed of yourself; ashamed of the memories that still haunted you, ashamed that they still hurt as much as they did, and ashamed for ruining Gaster’s and Grillby’s good mood.
Grillby pulled his hand from yours to wrap his arms around you. “Oh, spark, is this why you’ve never –”
“What a preposterous thing to tell someone! You couldn’t dance with him?!” Gaster cried, flinging his arms out in disbelief as he began pacing, agitation making it impossible for him to stand still. “Not to mention rude and callous! And then this-this imbecile bragged about dancing with someone else?! The more I find out about this person, the more appalled by him I am!” He whirled back to face you. “How did you ever put up with this behavior for so long?!” You cringed guiltily, the first tears escaping.
“Gentle, birdwing. She’s hurting,” Grillby said softly, tucking you under his chin as though he could hide you away from the memories.
“Well, of course she is! What a horrid thing to have been told by someone you love! You can’t dance – Everyone can dance!” Gaster charged on before Grillby’s words sank in. His gaze locked onto you, sharp eyelights fuzzing at the edges, posture softening as he took in the look on your face. “Oh! Oh, starshine… I’m sorry for yelling. It was not directed at you. There is no reason at all that you couldn’t learn to dance, even from me. Stars, I don’t even mind if you don’t want to learn. We can just…‘hug-and-sway,’ as you put it. To be together and happy is what matters,” he said gently as he came back to you.
“But I’m so much smaller –”
“That doesn’t matter, either. Grillby is shorter than I am, and we just had a lovely dance.”
“And I’m shorter than him! It…i-it just wouldn’t work, okay?!” you snapped before curling in on yourself, eyes fixed firmly on the floor, humiliated by your outburst. “I-I’m sorry for getting upset. I shouldn’t have said anything. J-just…forget about it.”
“Now, none of that! Anyone can dance with anyone. Come,” Gaster said sharply, clearly done with your self-depreciating. He held out a hand to you again. You looked at it as though it might bite you.
Grillby gave you a gentle squeeze. “You’ll be okay, spark. I learned how to dance from Wings as well.” He lowered his head and whispered into your ear, “He likes using fancy words, but he is a good teacher. He’ll take care of you.”
Gaster shot the elemental a look. “I may not have ears, but I’m not deaf,” he said, though his tone was considerably softer than the authoritative bark it just was. “But he is right, star,” he continued, gaze moving back to you. “I want nothing more than for you to enjoy this. I do not expect perfection, nor will it make me happy. Seeing you happy is what will make me happy. I’ll even refrain from using any ‘fancy words.’ So…may I have this dance?”
You shouldn’t – it could only end badly – but you hesitantly stepped out of Grillby’s arms and put your hand in the skeleton���s. His fingers closed around yours and he led you to the center of the floor. You were shaking, feeling like the entire world was watching you, judging you. You wanted to hide from those imagined, spiteful eyes. You couldn’t do this. You weren’t coordinated like Grillby or graceful like Gaster. You weren’t elegant. You could barely walk straight on a good day. You were a klutz – you had the bruises you didn’t remember getting to prove it. You were going to fail, you were going to let them down, you were –
Abruptly, thin, boney arms wrapped around you, pulling you into a tight embrace. Your glasses were taken from you before a hand pushed your face into the soft sweater before you. You inhaled the slight ozone-and-old-book smell that always seemed to cling to Gaster as a choked gasp escaped you despite your efforts to avoid crying. You twitched with nervous energy, everything screaming at you to just spare everyone the trouble and the misery and run, but the skeleton held you still, steady. A soft kiss was placed on the top of your head. “Breathe, little star. I have you, and Grillby is but a few steps away. We are here with you. All is well,” he murmured into your hair.
“I-I can’t do this. I’m just an embarrassment waiting to happen, I-I’m going to ruin everything. I’m ruining everything right now!” you mumbled into his sweater, fingers digging into the soft fibers.
“You are not ‘ruining’ anything, and you aren’t an embarrassment, I promise,” he said calmly. “Let’s see…You are going to feel awkward and clumsy for most of this. You are going to trip over your own feet and likely mine. You are going to lose count or tempo with the music at some point. You are going to miss at least one cue I give you. In other words, you are going to do just fine for a beginner. You will make mistakes, and they will be the same mistakes everyone else who was learning to dance has ever made.”
A warm hand touched your shoulder. “If you’re feeling self-conscious, would it help if I left the room?” Grillby asked softly. You peeked out from Gaster’s chest to look at the elemental. His flames burned a dull red-orange, and though he was currently blurry, you knew his head was tilted with concern.
“No…no, don’t go. I-I just…I’m just going to be a mess to watch,” you said, returning to your hiding spot.
“I believe that would fall into the ‘clumsy’ category,” Gaster teased gently, rubbing small circles between your shoulder blades. He held you tight, keeping you grounded, until you were finally able to look up into his face. He was smiling, eyelights large and fuzzy, full of love and understanding. “Are you alright?” You took a shaky breath but nodded. “Listen to me, starshine, if you really do not want to try dancing with me, I won’t force you. I do think it would be good for you to try, but I won’t make you if you are that uncomfortable with it,” Gaster said, wiping away an errant tear with his thumb.
You sighed. “No…you’re right. I should try. A-and I do want to dance, I’m just…scared.”
“I know, and that’s alright.” He kissed your forehead before the summoned hand that had stolen your glasses gave them back. He looked to Grillby. “Skyfire, would you find us something in three-quarter time? I think a waltz would be the easiest place to start.” Grillby nodded and went hunting through the jukebox’s song list while Gaster turned his attention back to you. “Now, left hand on my shoulder, or upper arm if that is more comfortable. Your right hand stays in my left, while my right hand goes around your back,” Gaster instructed, guiding you into position.

Gaster sent you out in a spin, and you found yourself laughing along with him. Your anxiety and stress were simply gone. You felt free and pretty and…and elegant. You were dancing!He brought you back  and pulled you close, leading you through a few more steps before dipping you. He had turned you just right so you could see Grillby when he tipped you back. The elemental gave a little cheer, clapping his hands before holding them close to his chest as he practically vibrated with happiness, his flames a beautiful yellow.
Gaster brought you back up, bright, fuzzy eyelights meeting yours just as your vision blurred. For the second time that evening, a summoned hand stole away your glasses as he pulled you close, cradling your head to his chest as your tears soaked into his sweater. You sobbed, clinging to him as though he might suddenly abandon you. “It’s alright, starshine. I have you,” he cooed, tightening his grip on you.
Heat pressed against your back as Grillby put his arms around you and Gaster both, trapping you between their bodies. “We’re here, sweet spark. Everything’s okay,” he murmured, kissing the back of your neck.
“I-I’m s-sorry! I’m s-so sorry! Wh-when did – I-I can’t –” you mewled only to be shushed by them both.
“You are not in trouble. Let it out,” Gaster soothed, rhythmically petting your head.
“We aren’t going anywhere,” Grillby promised, kissing your neck again.
You took several heaving gasps, trying to get the tears under control, but it didn’t do much other than make you feel light headed as well. “I-I don’t under–I-I’m happy, I am, why am I crying? Why can’t I stop?! I-I feel…f-feel…I-I can’t –”
“Glad, sad, mad, or bad?” Grillby asked suddenly.
“What?” Gaster asked, completely baffled.
“Later,” Grillby waved Gaster’s question away. “Sweet spark, look at me. Look at me.” It was hard to pull yourself away from Gaster’s chest, wanting to stay small and hidden, but at the elemental’s firm tone you managed to twist around to look at him. Dull orange burned a little brighter. “There you are…Do you feel glad, sad, mad, or bad?” He had to repeat the question once more before the words finally got through to you.
“G-glad. I-I got to dance w-with someone who loved me,” you stuttered. You swallowed hard. “And…and I’m sad that…it t-took so long t-to do it. A-and…” Your lips curled into a snarl. “M-mad that m-my…that he made me f-feel like I couldn’t…” The grimace fell away as quickly as it had arrived. “A-a-and bad that I-I’m still letting myself b-be controlled by th-the past...”
A cool hand brushed away your tears. Startled by the contact, you looked back up at the tall skeletal Monster. “All perfectly valid things to feel,” Gaster said softly.
Shame came to the forefront of your mind. “It’s been more than a year since he left, and I’m still letting him control me…I-I thought I was doing better…I thought I had moved on…”
“It is hard to unlearn things you have been taught to believe. You may have been separated from him for over a year now, but you were with him for six before that and engaged. He was important enough to you that you were going to spend your life with him. Of course the things he told you are going to linger,” he answered, curling down to kiss you. “You have been doing better, starshine. You haven’t been set off by any of your old triggers for several months now. When something small cropped up, you were able to work through it on your own. And for the big ones, like this? You have let us help you with them. As with any sort of pain, recovery takes time, and you are going to have set backs. You work through them, you learn, and you heal. If anyone here knows that, it’s me.”
He gave you a sad smile, which you returned weakly, knowing full well the twists his own ‘recovery’ had taken, and that they likely weren’t over with, either. You stood on your toes to kiss him (which he still had to lean down to meet, the frickin’ tree). “Thank you…a-and you’re right.”
“I always am,” he teased, taking your hands in his and squeezing them.
Grillby rested his chin on your shoulder. “I’m sorry I didn’t catch this sooner, sweet spark. I thought your aversion to dancing was simply due to self-consciousness or disinterest. In both cases, I didn’t think pushing the matter would be useful. I didn’t realize the problem ran deeper than that.”
“Don’t be sorry. I-I wasn’t exactly sharing anything with you, either.”
“Hmm…Why didn’t you tell me? We could’ve been dancing all this time.”
You stiffened. “I-I’m sorry, I-I-I should’ve known better,” you stammered, anxiety rising again.
“Shh-shhh, I’m not scolding you. I’m not angry, or even disappointed. I want to understand why you felt you had to hide this.”
“I-I…I was scared you’d turn me down, too,” you admitted.
“When have I ever turned down something you’ve wanted to try?” he asked, nuzzling you.
You sniffled, pressing your cheek harder against his. “I-I know…I don’t…I-I don’t know why I thought you might with this…Besides, i-it just…it wasn’t important enough to ask…”
You felt his jaw tighten, and you realized there was the echo of an old struggle in those words. “Was it that, or was it because you didn’t think you were important enough to ask?”
Sighing, you leaned your weight back against him. “You’re…not entirely wrong. Everything…everything with you was – is – so different from what I was used to. It was…amazing to feel listened to, and feel thought about and appreciated, and I was afraid of messing that up by asking something…something that you might think was dumb, or be told the same thing again a-and just have…have something he told me get confirmed by you.” You took a breath, closing your eyes. “A-and if he was right about something as insignificant as dancing, then he might be right about the other things he told me, more important things, things that…” Your voice quivered. “…that would make me unworthy of you. Th-things that might make you decide to leave. And as our relationship grew, and then Gaster got added in, I just…buried the desire to dance and forgot about it because it wasn’t important enough to wreck things over.”
“But dancing was important to you. And it would have been important to me as well, because you are important to me,” the elemental said. “I wish…I do wish you weren’t so worried about what I’d think if you asked me things, but I also understand the fear. You were told to repress your wants and feelings or be judged for them for so long. I understand how those thoughts can get ingrained in your mind.”
You hummed in agreement. “I-I’m sorry that I still have stuff to work through.”
He kissed your temple. “But you are working through them, just like Gaster said. That’s the most important thing. But if you really feel you need to make it up to me, you can give me this next dance.”

You whirled to face him. “Oh, please, no!” you squeaked in horror. Both Monsters burst out laughing.

Dream Morabito stared up at the AU that he and Outerswap Muffet had to go to. He wasn't as much of a ‘Guardian of Positivity’ as the original. To say he was already at his wits end was an understatement to end all understatements. He knew, he just knew that when he got the chance to meet the shortstack that was this other Dream he was going to ask him how the actual FUCK he did this for a living. He popped his neck and adjusted his bright blue hat and then his tie.
“You sure this is the place?” he asked Muffet.
Muffet ran her fingers through her sparkling bangs and nodded, “Yep, this looks like the safest bet! It’s kind of like my AU after all, just less… interesting stuff.” she frowned at the last part. She was getting annoyed with the repetitive rocks and… more rocks… Where the hell were the stars and galaxies?
“Alright…” Morabito sighed.
Muffet held out a hand causing a spider’s web to appear made out of constellations before opening up into a portal to the AU, “Let’s go! Maybe there will be something at least relatively interesting there!”
“Maybe I can shoot someone with an arrow to see how many people freak out.” he needed something, ANYTHING to do other than talk. He was starting to get very tired of talking.
Walking into Underswap, Muffet visibly deflated looking at the town that was Snowdin. Her pout on her black lips was so plump and distinct, calling it disappointment was practically the equivalent of calling her entertainment.
“Soooo interesting….” Morabito rolled his eyelights.
“Don’t give me that.” Muffet shot. “Let’s look around.”
Morabito held his tongue, he was already reaching her breaking point, and if he did, then he’d probably… lose her shit to say the least. Not wanting another ‘explosion at the bakery’ event to happen, he simply followed Muffet around like a lost puppy. As they walked about, he thought about all the things he learned about this… other him. They were an extremely positive and helpful person, not willing to hurt anyone, apparently getting chased by… someone. And also used a bow… but also swords. He was going to have to see if he could try out using the latter. He was never perfect with his accuracy, so much so that Edelweiss made fun of him for it and constantly taunted him for ages. Maybe swords would be fun. He did somewhat envy this Dream too, being able to be so positive all the time. Not feeling hate… until getting envenomated.
He really should’ve written down some advice for the guy before leaving to take care of his job. At least he got a lot of positive desires out of it. He probably wouldn’t have to worry too much about starving for a good while if he was just a bit careful. Maybe even make a stockpile!
Eventually, the duo came across what looked to be some training.
“Awe… it reminds me of when Occult’s brother would train with the Celestial Guard!” Muffet cooed. She got out her phone and started snapping pictures so she could send them to Occult. She missed her Sans so much.
Morabito just patted her back. He couldn’t offer many words, not again after what happened the last time he tried to talk to someone mourning… It got him stabbed and envenomated.

Indigo bent backwards, dodging a swipe from Alphys’s monstrous tail at the last second, then summoned a thin wall of bones to catapult himself into the air, out of the reach of his trainer’s electric flames. 
The short skeleton focussed, laughing when Alphys lunged up after him and slashed her claws at him. He dodged and parried off of them, but then was stomped out of the air and launched into a new pile of snow and grass.
Indigo popped out of the pile, dusting specs of snow and dirt off his cape and armor, then summoned a hammer blaster, spinning it between his hands, and the blaster head attached to the handle snapped open, unleashing a blast behind him that sent him flying towards his opponent. As he closed in on Alphys, he swung his hammer above him, then down, intending to slam the lizard-dragon hybrid into the ground like she did to him a moment ago. But the Captain of the Royal Guard had other plans, and they did not involve defeat at the hands of her trainee. Alphys sent a knowing smirk Indigo’s way, bared teeth and all, and met the head of his hammer with the palm of her hand, cutting off the blast intended for her. “Not so fast, little man.”
Just like that, Indigo was tossed away again, his weapon following close behind, its shadow hovering over his form before it hit the ground, and he rolled away to avoid it.
Of course she would use her larger size and brute strength to her advantage. He had to think of another approach before she got him again. Indigo lifted his hammer from the ground and desummoned it, meeting Alphys’s eye from across the sparring field. The Captain kept that wild smile on her face and turned away from him to lift her axe, giving it a test swing.
“Are you sure you don’t wanna call it quits for today, Sans?” “Nah, Alph. I’m good to keep going!” The lizard gave him a skeptical look, and Indigo felt his marrow boil. He knew she was just looking out for him. She always did, and she was a great friend for that. But everyone looked at him that way, as if he was incapable of caring for himself!
Indigo glared at her, and got back into a fighting position.
Seeing this, Alphys shrugged, and readied her axe.
“Well… if you insist!” He didn’t bother with Alphys’s countdown from ten and charged in her direction, leaving snow flying behind him in his pursuit. 
Alphys had little time to react, blocking a potential kick to the face with the flat face of her axe, and Indigo jumped away, dashing behind her and grabbing her tail, giving it a rough tug to yank her off her balance. In response, his trainer swerved around, one of her massive claws slammed into the ground where Indigo was a moment before, but the skeleton kept on his feet, planting the heel of his boot into Alphys’s snout before taking off again, re-summoning his hammer blaster and charging up some energy in the core of its partially closed mouth. Indigo kept his eye on Alphys as she jumped back from confusion, bleeding from her nostrils. But instead of infuriation, she absolutely roared in delight. “That’s it, Sans! THAT’S WHAT I WANNA SEE!” She lunged at him, her axe lifted high, and swung it down, but before it could hit its target, Indigo swung up his hammer, and the back of its head connected with the flat of the axe just right, wrenching it out of Alphys’s hand as it released a burst of energy, sending it flying out of bounds of the sparring field. The hammer’s blast cut off once the other weapon was gone, and Indigo grabbed Alphys by the soul with blue magic, slamming her chest-first into the snow-covered dirt. And just like that, Alphys’s timer went off, signaling that the training session was over. Alphys, from her current position, whooped awkwardly, her face planted in the ground, but still ridiculously enthusiastic at the progress of her student. She groaned, then rolled over, pumping a hand towards the Underground’s ceiling, then brought it back down to rub at her face. “Holy SHIT, Sans! Remind me to never piss you off, hAHAAHAHA!!!” Indigo let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding, and flopped backwards into the snow alongside his friend. “Heh, I was that good?” “Yeah, you fucking nerd! You totally kicked my ass! I’m gonna have to think about it, give me a day or two, but I think you’re ready for more intensive battle training.” “WAIT, ARE YOU SERIOUS!?” “YEAH?” Indigo screamed in happiness, and covered his mouth with his cape halfway so the sound wouldn’t echo through the rest of the Underground. He couldn’t just lay down anymore at that point, he had to get up and run laps around Alphys, breaking into dances at random intervals as the lizard got up to finally turn off the timer and clean up her nose. “Oh shit. Sans?” “Yeeeeessss?” “Can you go get my axe? I think it flew off in…” Alphys retraced her steps, looking back to the place she got faceplanted and off to the east. She pointed in that way for Indigo’s reference. “That direction.” “Of course! I’ll be back!” “I know you will, NEEEEEEERD!” Indigo took off towards where Snowdin’s endless wilderness started.

Morabito ducked the moment he saw the axe coming. He turned and saw the gargantuan weapon embedded into a tree only a handful of inches away from where he had jumped down from.
That was way too close. Muffet damn near fell over laughing at him.
“Is every swap like this or–”
“You're just boring~” Muffet teased.
He swore this woman was just the worst, almost as bad as DeVille. Almost. But thank the stars that they weren't near her Papyrus – Occultatum, because if she was, her effort to annoy him would only quintuple.
They had a few minutes to recover from the shock, then the tiny figure of the resident Sans from a long distance away started getting bigger. The fact he would run fast enough to give cheetahs a run for their money was not only fucking alien, but damn was it just a slightly intimidating sight after the smackdown Morabito and Muffet had just witnessed.
Muffet spotted Indigo running towards them. Well, they did come to talk and see if they were in the right place, so meeting someone here wouldn't be that bad. In fact she was more than certain this was the place. It had to be, the AUs weren't that clumped now because of Digi… or Klezmer as he preferred to be called. But he's still Digi to her. No matter how much it ticked him off.
She didn't say anything to Morabito about the resident Sans coming over. It's just more fun that way. The skeleton on his way over wasn’t dressed as the typical inner multiverse Swap!Sans. Instead of his cape being a shade of deep blue at most, it was an ultra dark blend of blue and purple, and his armor was dark gray instead of light. He also had freckles of a similar shade covering his face, same with his eyelights.
“Hiya, Muffet! Cool outfit!” 
He thought she practically lived at her bakery, but it was nice to see the spider monster out and about. Maybe she was looking for more supplies for her spider donuts or something, he wasn’t going to pry. Indigo continued down the path until he came across the ax, but by the time he did that, the guardian next to it attracted his immediate and dedicated attention. “DREAM!” The soldier trainee jumped on his friend with not a moment to spare, crushing him in a suffocating hug with no escape. “OH MY GOD, BUDDY, NEVER DO THAT AGAIN, WE WERE ALL SO WORRIED–” “Ack!”
Morabito froze like a statue, he really tried to control the negative emotions that damned venom DeVille had in that stupid weapon of his… and everything of his that wasn't his stupid wine. He truly was heroically trying to hold back his annoyance of the long… LONG as hell day he had been put through acting in for his other self but he failed miserably.
“Let me go… or I will punt you across this entire forest.”
“Morabito!” Muffet growled.
Yeah, this day was going to get worse… he needed some damn coffee.
Indigo immediately released the impostor and put some distance between them, his face morphing from genuine confusion to mortification as he recognized the details he missed. This was not Dream, but in the stranger’s defense, he looked nothing like him upon more focused inspection. “Oh– Oh shit, I am so sorry! I thought you were my friend. UH–” He glanced at Muffet, then back to this new person. At least he could get a name from her. “Morabito, was it?”
Morabito nodded, glaring at Indigo before looking at Muffet, “Looks like we're in the right universe, finally.”
Muffet snickered, “The look on your face when he hugged you was priceless. I told you you looked like that little guy!”
Morabito summoned his bow and an arrow then desummoning them reminding himself that he can't keep letting the negative emotions take control of his actions. Okay, a coffee with three blonde shots it is.
Muffet looked like she was about to start giggling like a mad-woman.
Indigo scratched the back of his skull. He knew for sure Morabito was someone, but definitely not Dream, but what about Muffet? He looked over his shoulder at the woman, and noticed differences between her and the Muffet he knew the most. She was all sparkly, and… actually took care of her hair. “I’m assuming you’re not the Muffet I know either?”
She shook her head, “Nope, but I am from a place you'll love to visit~! Sorry about my little friend over there, he's a bit of a hothead. But we're here to talk to you, and anyone who happens to be really close to that little cutie, Dream.”
She really couldn't wait to fluster the hell out of that kid when she got the chance, if he was anything like Morabito, it was going to be so. Freaking. Fun!
Morabito nodded, “A… friend, found him and had to get him some medical attention. He's not doing too well.” FINALLY, he was getting some answers on Dream’s whereabouts, but why did it always have to be bad news!? Indigo facepalmed, then rubbed the bridge between his eyesockets. Undyne should have never let him go, even though that wouldn’t have stopped him from leaving whatsoever once he decided to.
Indigo lifted the axe, leaning it over his shoulder as if it weighed nothing. “I have to return this first, then I can take you two somewhere to talk, okay? This timeline is well acquainted with outcodes, so you won’t attract too much attention being here.” With that, he stopped right outside the woods, readjusted his grip on the axe’s handle, and swung it with enough power for the weapon to land in the middle of Alphys’s training grounds. Then he stretched, popping the stiffness in his shoulder blades, and sent a text to Alphys. She should still be down there, but it was just in case. “Alright, let’s go. You can call me Indigo, by the way!”
Morabito was very impressed with Indigo’s strength, he nodded at the Sans’ words before saying, “Nice to meetcha.”
Muffet merely nodded.
They were actually really surprised at how well adjusted this timeline was with what Indigo called outcodes. They supposed it meant exactly what it implied: those whose universes were gone with only the survivors' existences being the last remnants of the code. They never really had a name for such a thing – they just called them survivors. Either Klezmer was very busy while they weren’t looking, or there was another glitch running around.
And there definitely was another glitch running around, Muffet could just feel it. She knew she should’ve borrowed Occult’s tarot cards to see if they’d run into any new information like this. Damn it. They simply followed Indigo to his house as they looked around to see if there was anything actually interesting. Morabito didn’t see anything, not even the moment they stepped into the house. But Muffet… Muffet found a new target.
Indigo had started ahead of them, shaking his head as the front door to his house was left wide open, and upon walking in, discovered his brother and Edge smoking pot. The smell had permeated the living room. He thought he had smelled something a couple yards away, but honestly would rather have the house on fire than this again. He didn’t even know where they got it from, but it was unacceptable, and the look on Indigo’s face said all he wanted to say, but refrained from doing so unless he wanted to strangle his brother and their roommate. “Let’s… I apologize for their behavior, I’ll take care of them, but let’s go somewhere else.”
“Oh no, this is fine!” Muffet said before Morabito could even speak in just as much outrage as Indigo was currently holding in.
She happily walked over behind the couch the boys were sitting on and just put two of her hands on their heads, aother two around their shoulders and the last two behind her back, she leaned down and whispered, “Hey boys, don’t tell me you both started to have fun without me?”
Carrot froze. Who the hell was speaking… and why like that? He turned and saw… either heaven itself or he really was just that high. Edge himself was a little more lucid, and upon turning to ask Carrot what the fuck kind of impression he was making, he came face-to-face with the spider, and jerked back, slipping off the couch ass-first in the process. “H—OOOF– WHATSTHEFUCK ISTHIS??”
Muffet pouted at Edge before looking at Carrot smirking, “Awe, boys don’t be like that~ I’m not going to eat you… well… like that anyways.”
Carrot couldn’t even speak, he wanted to check if his soul didn’t shatter due to being so high, but he could barely move. But the bright as a neon sign blush on his face finally won out and he fell over to the side. Muffet laughed, almost falling over herself.
“Oh you two are perfect material!” she said between breaths, “I have to tell Occult about you two!”
She got out her phone and started texting him.
Morabito put a hand on Indigo’s shoulder, “Yeah, I’m sorry for your loss.”
Indigo released an exasperated sigh and leaned into his touch just on principle. He appreciated the mental support. “I can’t believe he corrupted Edge, too.”
At this point, he was genuinely considering moving out and relocating to Waterfall or Hotland, somewhere closer to Alphys. Hell, he’d take Undyne over this any day too. Edge recovered from his intoxicated shock, hoping to whatever god may exist that the spider monster was just a figment of his imagination, perhaps a result of all the weed he smoked in a coping frenzy, but no. No matter how much he blinked, she was still there. But the sound of Indigo’s voice was a saving grace for… about two seconds, and processing the look on the other skeleton’s face was all he needed to know. His host was disappointed. As Indigo left to open up all the windows in the house and get some of the hall closet fans installed to push out the marjuana air, Edge submitted to the shame, leaning against the foot of the couch to thoroughly die inside.
Morabito decided to sit at the table in hopes to avoid the absolute horror that was about to take place. He resigned himself with the fact that there would be no mercy here. He was just glad he was not the one with their head in the guillotine.
Muffet on the other hand decided that she hadn’t played enough with the edgy little Sans at the foot of the couch, so she went over to him and knelt down, grabbing his head in her hands, having one of them trace the back of his neck. “Awe, you okay, sweetie? I didn’t scare you, did I?” she feigned a sweet and concerned tone just to further mess with her new favorite victim.
“Holy shit, lady,” Edge narrowed his blurred red eyelights at her, at the very side of his vision. It’s not that he hated spiders, but they are the last thing a man wants to see when he’s high off his senses and staring blankly at the wall, hoping the texture would stop moving. “Couldn’t you knock before you came in?” “You left the door WIDE OPEN, you NUMBSKULLS!” Indigo yelled from the kitchen, gathering cleaning materials in preparation to bring the Sanspocalypse on the entire living room and perhaps the insides of Carrot and Edge’s craniums while he’s at it. There was no question at all that his disappointment was morphing into a determined and unfiltered cleaning rage. Edge gulped, beginning to sweat. He looked away from Muffet, used the couch’s arm to help himself up, then his legs betrayed him. If not for the couch being covered in cloth stuffed with feathers and dog hair, he would have dusted from hitting his forehead on the very thing he counted on to get him standing again. “MMPHH, FOR FUCK’S SAKE.”
“You are my new favorite targets from now on…” Muffet grinned.
“Is… is it just me… or are there… stars… and galaxies… in her clothes…?” Carrot asked, squinting at the woman. “Wait… Muffet?... Did you roll around in glitter?”
“Wanna touch me and see if I did?” she stuck her tongue out at him.
Carrot blinked and stared at the ceiling to contemplate if he did die and go to heaven.
“Muffet… you are killing them.” Morabito hissed.
“I’m only playing with them!” she purred.
“I’m… I’m ace, I just wanted to remind myself.” Carrot blurted out, suddenly.
That broke her. She fell over laughing. Oh, she loved them. She absolutely LOVED them.
Meanwhile, Edge had pulled his hood over his face and started recounting every element in the periodic table. He got so engrossed in it, he hardly noticed Indigo slipped his arms under his and yanked him up. They were about halfway to the table when it finally registered, and when it did, Edge squirmed in Indigo’s hold, making the dragging treatment slightly more chaotic than it already was.
“HEY, WHAT THA FUCK IS THIS ABOUT? LEMME GO!” Indigo made no comment until he pinned Edge to the nearest chair until he stopped moving under the other skeleton’s judgemental stare. “I brought Morabito and Muffet here for a reason, Edge, and you are the only other source of information they asked for.” The general consensus from that second forward was for Edge to be on his best behavior, or they were gonna have another set of problems. Indigo never openly freaked out at Carrot whenever he got high unannounced and stank up the house, and Edge assumed he was getting the same treatment, but damn did he expect to receive hell once he was sober.
Carrot got up, shaking his head and then looking at Indigo, “Wait… wha?... What do you mean, Indi?”
He was genuinely confused before finally, FINALLY spotting Morabito, “Wait, why is Dream cosplaying a mobster?”
Morabito glared at Carrot for the comment, but didn’t say anything. He figured that once the two idiots were done being high enough to touch the stars, he’d finally not have to put up with the headache.
Muffet snickered at the comment, “It’s adorable, isn’t it?”
“I uh… I guess so…” Carrot said, trying to put a bit of distance between him and Muffet. He didn’t know what got into her, but… he didn’t want to find out. Where the hell did his asexuality go? Usually this sort of shit never fazed him!
“Muffet, cut it out. At this point I think his soul is going to leave his body.” Morabito said, trying his best to not growl at the woman.
Muffet nodded, “Okay, okay, I guess I’ll give them some mercy.”
Indigo sat in the chair farthest from the living room and slid a plate with bread and a glass of water to Edge in an unspoken order to consume the items. He had dealt with his brother’s mary jane usage too many times to know what could lessen the effects of it, if not by a little bit. The main thing was time, but they might not have that tonight.
Edge had to shut out the sounds of everyone else’s voices in order to focus on that command.
His host sent another damning look Carrot’s way before really settling, sitting at the table like an actual mob boss, with his elbows propped up on the surface, fingers laced together, and chin resting on top of them. “Muffet, let’s get this shit in order. I don’t know how much sanity I have left and don’t want to find out.”
“I agree.” Morabito said simply.
“Okay, I’ll stop messing with them!” Muffet frowned, she used her magic to drag Carrot over to the table and sit him down next to Morabito, who leaned away from him.
Carrot didn’t speak, knowing Indigo wouldn’t appreciate anything he said at the moment.
Muffet hummed. She was about to get started, only for a knock at the door. Indigo growled to himself, leaving the table to yank open the door, and whatever enthusiasm Undyne was prepared to walk in with immediately tucked tail and ran. “Yes, Undyne?”
Undyne lost her words for a moment, finally finding some of them she nervously spoke, “Heya kid, I saw your new friends on the cameras and I uh… was hoping if I could join you and them… I uh… I am also worried about Dream.”
Indigo’s eye twitched. “I am 31 years old and pay a mortgage. Never call me ‘kid’ again.”
“Sorry.” she said, scooting past him and walking in. She gave a nervous wave to the two visitors.
“You’re 31?” Morabito asked. “I thought you were twelve.”
“Ever heard the sound of a skull breaking glass, tough guy?”
Morabito decided to not answer the obvious threat.
Muffet was recording the entire thing, “Oh, you’re so much like the Sans I had…”
“I’m not gonna ask,” Indigo replied, taking his seat once again. Undyne followed his example. The tension in the room was indescribable, and right now, Indigo was not intent on repairing that. After this, all he wanted to do was take a long, hot shower and pass out. He didn’t care where.
Muffet took a long deep breath as she stopped recording. “Okay, to get this started, I’m sure you’re all really worried about Dream, and so are we. He is currently under the care of my Papyrus – Occultatum — along with a Toriel and Alphys from an Asylumtale. They’re doing everything in their power to keep him alive.”
“They’re using my Positivity Magic to do so. I left them with a supply of my arrows to keep him alive as long as possible to find anything that can cure the venom in his body.” Morabito explained, “In my AU, the venom myself and my version of Nightmare relates to positivity and negativity. Obviously if I’m the positive one, DeVille is the negative one.”
“That’s fucking on the nose…” Carrot mumbled. “His name is literally Devil.”
“He’s not really a… bad guy per se, we just feed off of Positive and Negative desires respectively.” Morabito stated, “I’m currently trying to do my best to do Dream’s job while he’s out of it. I’ve been hit with DeVille’s venom several times, trust me when I say it’s not fun.”
“What does it do, exactly?” Undyne asked, “I’ve been trying to analyze it, but I can’t tell what exactly it does.”
“It literally enhances all negative emotions a person has. If it were to hit someone like say, Indigo right now, he’d probably be tearing everyone here limb from limb.” Morabito stated, “But if it is someone like me or Dream, it opens the door to feeling all negative emotions in full. From disgust, to loathing.”
“And since Dream is a being of pure positivity,” Muffet sighed, “He’s pretty much dying until we can get that venom cured.” Undyne looked like she was three seconds away from chucking one of Indigo’s chairs out the nearest window and isolating herself in The Lab to hyperfocus on curing Dream without interruption. The scientist sprang from her seat when Morabito dropped the bomb, and was now clutching the chair’s spine tight enough to make indents in the furbished, carefully chiseled wood.
For once, Indigo was relieved Carrot was mentally jumping off the moon. If he were sober, he could clearly visualize him planning revenge so intensely one could read exactly what he wanted to do off the shape of whatever wrinkles skeletons were capable of forming to highlight intense stress.
Of course, most of that was pure exaggeration, but whichever poor soul was reading this got the idea.
But Edge was not the same. If anything, whenever he got high, his sensitivity level skyrocketed. The poor guy had frozen in time mid-bite out of the bread Indigo had thrown at him not several minutes earlier. Before Indigo himself could get a word in, Edge slowly pushed his plate away. “...he’s dyin’?” “They said he could be dying if he doesn’t get help, Edge,” his host solemnly replied. Indigo took his arms off the table in favor of hugging himself for comfort’s sake, staring down at the grain of the wood. “But what can we do? Whada they need from us?”
“We don’t really want anything from you, more that we were hoping you’d all be willing to go to Outerswap with us to help Dream stay calm and not break down on us while we get him settled down. If not, we can deliver a message from you all or a gift box, something to keep him stable… emotionally.” Muffet said simply.
“After all, he isn’t exactly in a familiar setting, being in the Outer Realms.” Morabito stated.
Muffet nodded. “The Outer Realms have never been visited by him or your version of Sketch, and it’s bad enough that things are very different in that area, so something familiar would be nice.”
Edge leaned forwards in his seat, holding a hand over his skull to block out how bright the dining room light was, but otherwise remained as focussed as he could manage in his current state. “Wait,... who’s Sketch?” “I have the same question.” Indigo got out of his seat and put the chair in, leaving for the kitchen. Maybe it was to clean up or something, even though Edge was certain he and Carrot did nothing to that area of the house. Their tomfoolery was limited to the living room only, last he checked.
“Idiot with a giant paint brush, can be as tone deaf as an arsonist in an antique shop, has a tendency to go around the entire multiverse just because he can, no matter what is going on. Fights glitchy assholes for a living.” Morabito stated.
There was a distant gasp, then a crash from the kitchen. Indigo rushed out, hovering in the entryway. “THAT SOUNDS LIKE INK!”
“THAT’S IT!” Undyne, shoved her chair back in place and barged out the front door. Indigo had the thought to drag her back in, but she wasn’t a threat to anyone or anything just yet, and he doubted she was a danger to herself these days either. The armored skeleton had to lean against the wall, close to tears but somehow holding himself together, “Do you know where he is? He went MIA weeks ago, I assume to find Error or something else like him.”
Edge, however, snuck a sip of his water and slipped off his hood. “You kiddin’ me, smalls? Tracking that guy is a suicide mission. Ink is a goner.” “No, Edge, you don’t understand Ink if you think he can die like the rest of us,” Indigo stressed. He slipped off his gloves and twisted them into a rope-like texture, stimming to cope with the stress of not only one of his friends being hospitalized and close to death, but the other one possibly not that far behind.
He didn’t know Error’s status. For his mental stability, Indigo had to avoid the topic of him completely and assumed Ink and Dream handled the rest. But he knew, oh did he know, just what that guy was capable of. Anything with code? Anything that existed at all, wasn’t safe from him. Ink probably couldn’t die, that much was true, but he definitely wasn’t in the clear. Carrot sat up, his eyes trained on his brother. The lanky skeleton dragged himself to the kitchen, practically hovering over Indigo. “Bro, you’re spiraling.”
“Papyrus, we have more important things to worry about than this.” “I don’t care. Go lay down.” Indigo grimaced, but retreated upstairs as advised.
“If that Ink guy is anything like Sketch, he’s probably chasing his version of Klezmer.” Morabito sighed, “Trying to kill the bastard because of petty grudges and arguing over their own fucked up versions of helping people.”
Muffet nodded, “We don’t know anything about Ink, but we’ll keep an eye out for him while we’re out trying to keep Dream’s job going strong.”
“I seriously need to ask the bastard how he keeps this up, I’m so tired…” Morabito held his head trying to keep his cool.
“Well, what’s your decision?” Muffet asked, “Any of you want to go, or would you want me to send a message?”
Edge sighed, exchanged a knowing look with Carrot, then addressed Muffet. “Yeah, we’ll haveta go with you. We gotta get smalls in order first, though.”
Carrot nodded, “Yeah, I’ll text Undyne and see if she’s up for the trip.”
“Glad to hear it,” Muffet smiled, “We’ll be here tomorrow, so be sure to be ready by the afternoon.”
“Will-do.” Carrot said simply.
With that, the duo from the outer realms left using one of Muffet’s portals.
After a moment Carrot sunk to the floor, and just tried to hold all of his chaotic thoughts in order. Whoever this DeVille is… He was fucking dead.

Best Friends Forever
(I'm feeling a little down so have some sad stuff)
"Okay and open!" Roman said, Joyce opened her eyes and gasped, this was a new AU based around Antartica, Joyce was happy she was warned to dress for the cold. "Woah...Roman this is so pretty" she said staring up at the sky lit by the Aurora Borealis.
"I know! I thought you'd like it" Roman said, the skeleton slid around on the icy ground, having removed her slippers "also it's a lot of fun!" She said with a giggle. Joyce smiled as she watched Roman, she couldn't ever believe how lucky she was.
"Hey Roman" she said catching the skeleton's attention "yeah?" Roman replied, skating up to Joyce. "I'm happy that we're friends...If I never met you I wouldn't be seeing so many wonderful places..." Joyce said, Roman froze, her smile gone for a moment but then returned wider than ever.
"Aw! I'm happy too!" Roman said, covering her cheeks slightly with her hands "I'm happy to stay best friends forever" she added. Joyce giggled "me too" she replied.

Shadow stared at people skating around on the ice rink, he didn't really understand it. "So...People skate around for...Fun?" He asked, turning to Joyce and Neela.
"Yeah, some Snowdin monsters loved the ice so much it's just something the town had to add" Joyce replied as she put skates on her feet. Shadow looked down to the ground with a groan "I hate making legs..." He said.
Neela smiled "y-you don't have to" she said, Shadow shook his head "no, this is about trying something new, I can't just back out" he replied as his lower body shifted. Finally with legs, Shadow stared at the ice unsure, Joyce smiled "let me show you, it's very easy" she said as she slowly got on the ice rink and slowly skated.
Shadow watched Joyce closely, he put his feet carefully on the ice. The cold feeling was quite odd, he didn't move until he felt Neela take his hand "come on, just put one foot in front of the other" she said.
Shadow followed Neela's movements slowly, he hummed as he felt his feet slide perfectly on the ice.
Joyce watched the two with a smile, memories of a day long gone flashing in her mind. Roman smiling, sliding around, watching the lights in the sky and a promise that was never to be.
'Let's promise to come back next year! You can bring skates.'

Snow fall
In the dark. In the cold. In the snow they laid. Waiting. Waiting. Waiting. The endless frozen sea around them. The snow falls around them. Trees stand to the top of the cavern... Cavern... It was so familiar. Right on the tip of their tongue... It felt numb. Everything felt numb. That it could end in seconds. That this body would give out and fade to dust and whatever else still holding on whatever life this was.
Then they heard it. The steps of somebody approaching them. "...HELLO? IS SOMEBODY THERE?" They tried to move. To hide away. But it felt numb. It felt as if they were rooted in the ground. Sinking in the soil. "THERE YOU ARE! I WILL HELP YOU!"
Before they had time to react. Shout. Flee. Fight. they felt the pull of somebody holding them. "THERE YOU GO. THE SOON TO BE ROYAL GUARD AND GREAT PAPYRUS ALWAYS HELPS A MONSTER IN NEED." Their head slowly turned to look at the source of the voice. A skeleton. A familiar skeleton in a familiar frozen cavern in familiar woods. This felt wrong. They felt wrong. They shouldn't be here. "DO YOU REQUIRE WARM COCO? I'M SURE THE SHOP KEEP HAS SOME ON STANDBY." Papyrus flaunts himself. His small cape dashing in the wind as he poses heroically. They fall back in the snow. They needed to leave. To reset. To begin again. It all feels numb. All options presented conflicted with them. "I SEE THIS IS A MORE URGANT MATTER. NOT TO FEAR! I THE GREAT PAPRYUS WILL ESCORT YOU MYSELF." Papyrus slowly lifts the figure up. Carrying them to Snowdin town back on the path. This surely was an odd event today. He couldn't wait to tell Flowey about it next time he saw him. and everything went dark...

Finished these up a bit ago! Its the Ruins!
for anyone whos new here this is a bit of a passion project of mine, I wanted to see a western themed Undertale AU, so I'm making one lol. still thinking of a name but I think Westerntale should work good enough for now
lore below :>
Mount Ebbot is actually apart of a pretty infamous mountain range, local legend says that there is an untapped gold mine beneath the ground. Every explorer who has gone looking for the mine has failed, and many have never returned.
the Ruins is the previously mentioned mine, It was the main source of gold underground when Monsters were first sealed. Now that its empty the area is more of a ghost town, (both figuratively and literally due to a certain ghost monsters constant visits.)
Frisk is one of many humans who fell into the Underground, whether they were searching for gold or were simply unlucky is unknown.
Flowey's design is based on the desert rose (which are not native to the western united states, but were so cool I felt like I had to include it the sap of the plant is poisonous!!!) and more accurate to the region the beavertail cactus's flowers (pretty similar to the prickly pear cactus if you know what that is)
Toriel is the caretaker of the Ruins, she takes care of the town and any remaining monsters who stayed even after the mines were abandoned.
Story wise everything is pretty similar to canon only western themed

Swimming Lessons
It took a while to find an AU that would be safe enough to swim in. Clean water and no rapid rivers was a must… which meant most AUs were out. The underground didn’t normally have the best of rivers considering waterfall. And Snowdin’s river was a no go because it was far too cold. The two inky children would have a horrible time if their ink started to harden. Eventually they found a lovely AU called Leviathantale. The AU was truly massive, spanning across an entire planet. A planet remarkably similar to the earth Marise knew.
Sure it had Mermaid variations of all the Outcode skeletons and May skeletons that were… not. But the water was extremely magic rich, and as long as they didn’t go too deep the sun would keep Marise charged all day. The moon less so, but it was enough.
Their vacation to Leviathantale was scheduled for a whole month. The kids extremely excited. Even Chaos popped by to say she would be joining them!
“Are you sure it’s a good idea for me to go?” Dust asked as he helped Marise check all their supplies. He was currently checking the Bone Creams they had, a Skeleton equivalent of Sunscreen.
“Their Dust looks nothing like you, especially since you rarely wear your scarf,” Marise said reassuringly, “besides, I’m going to need as many hands on deck when we actually do get to teaching the little ones to swim. You have no idea how easy it is for little ones to get caught up in currents.” Since the new Fazbear World was next to the ocean, they had set up a real Pirate’s Cove along the sea. They soon had to install a net because of how easily the current pulled the little ones away from the shore.
“I still think it’s a bad idea,” Dust groaned, tossing an oil bottle that was mixed in with the Bone Cream at Marise.
Marise caught it and put it with her box of supplies, “the kids adore you ya know. And Horror mentioned you normally take any water themed AU during missions,” Marise offered.
“Fine fine, nothin’ will get ya ta stop buggin’ will it?” Dust grumbled.
“Nope~” Marise purred, “oh, don’t forget to put this in Palette’s bag. He keeps forgetting he’s made of ink too,” Marise hummed as she handed Dust a bottle of Minor Ink Coagulant. The day they discovered Palette was just as inky as PJ and Blueprint but just better held together… was traumatic to say the least. Poor kid has been absolutely terrified of paint thinners ever since.

The vacation house they rented was a pretty decent size. The Sans and Papyrus of this AU were a rather friendly duo. Fishermen, but their auras betrayed their simple exteriors. Those two felt far more powerful than mere mortals… but they let Marise rent a rather large coast side house for the month, so who was she to comment? Dust had already claimed sleeping with Lust, while Marise would be sleeping in the same room as Shine and Shade. Paperjam and Gradient split up, so they could look after Palette and Goth respectively. Palette and Goth argued, but it was safer this way. Asphodel, Blueprint and Chaos shared a room, although Chaos didn’t really need to sleep. Normally the deity hiding in a human vessel opted to sit with Marise and read a book. Horror was sleeping on the couch, although it didn’t take long for Marise to make him a hammock that actually fit the giant of a Skeleton.
The First Day:
Day one was the easiest to handle. Setting up, helping the little ones get their rooms just right to be comfortable. Adding in Music Boxes where needed to soothe the sleeping children. Filling any hiding place they could with medical supplies and the like. Horror finding places for his emergency snacks to hide. Going to town to buy food and bottled water after discovering the water at the house was very much filled with rust.
Blueprint was eager to get started on making a Light House. Nothing too large, but big enough to play in and have a slide wrapped around the outside. The sight was going to be made for nighttime swimming if the waters proved safe enough. They had long since cleared it with their landlords, who both seemed highly amused by the idea of a little lighthouse on their property.
Paperjam and Gradient were more of the type to sit under an umbrella and doodle/sketch while they watched the others playing.
Goth was less eager than the others to get into the water, mostly because he was afraid to kill any fish on accident. But he valiantly did his best to keep up with the others. He clung to Marise constantly.
Palette was the most eager to get in the water, having heard many stories from his parents about various ocean AUs but having never been to one himself. Lust had to constantly remind him to put on his ink coagulant before getting in the water. Making sure the fussy child was properly protected before splashing about. He even nailed his older brothers a few times, before innocently grinning at the two.
Shine and Shade were in Dust’s care for the first day. Both in a kiddie pool they had set up a bit away from the ocean. Floaters and everything. Shade seemed to not like it, but shade absolutely loved splashing the water about. Shade hissed a few times before forming a tentacle to splash shine even harder. A cyclical cycle with no end between the two.
Horror was deeper into the water, watching for any indication that the little ones seam too far or got carried off. His weight and bulk helping to keep him steady as a rock.
It was Horror who first noticed they weren’t as… “alone” as they first thought. Spotting a grey fin in the distance. He narrowed his eyelight, watching the thing. Seeing how it seemed to surface every once in a while… and then go back down not long after… always coming closer…
Steadily drawing closer…
Every passing minute…
“SHARK!” He called out, jolting up and running towards the shore. Scooping up Palette in one hand and Goth with his gloves hand.
Everyone settled on the waters edge together to watch the water.
Watching for that Shark…
With a squeak, goth spotted the fin they were looking for, pointing it out to his family. Or rather, skull. The skull poked just out of the waters surface.
Empty sockets with black trails coming down the eyes… a wide grin of sharp teeth. It was just in shallow enough water for the head and fin to be seen but deep enough that they couldn’t see the rest of his body.
“Didn’t Sans say to feed them if they get too close?” Lust asked softly, hoping he remembered right.
“I… think so…” Dust offered.
Marise wasn’t there for the negotiations so she opted to trust the two. Standing up but not too quickly as to spook the Merskeleton. The animatronic made her way over to their cooler where they had many fish they had planned to use for dinner… oh well, the fish would appreciate it more… she grabbed a nice large Seordfish Horror bought from a local fisherman for lunch. Oh well…
She walked over to the waters edge and tossed it as far as she could without getting within arms reach of the Mer.
It… actually looked surprised at her before going off to find the Swordfish.
They didn’t see the Mer again that day…
Day 2:
The day started bright and early. The sun was shining, flowers were blooming!
And there was a shark waiting at the waters edge, staring at the house.
Okay then…
“Horror! I’m going to the dock to get some more fish!” Marise called out before leaving.
Goth ran up to her and clung to her leg, “can I come too?” The little skeleton asked, eyelight shining innocently at her.
“Okay, but you know the rules about being in a town,” Marise said, kneeling down so Goth could climb onto her back.
“Wear my gloves… and… ah…” Goth muttered.
“Don’t mention the Multiverse or its inhabitants,” Marise provided.
He nodded firmly, “yeah! Don’t ah… don’t talk about that!” Hugging Marise’s neck tightly as to not move too much.
“Good, you’re such a good boy Goth~” Marise cooed as she reached back and patted his head. Then adjusted so she supported him a bit better.
In town they collected a lot more fish this time, enough to feed a couple guests if needed. The animatronic had a feeling the first was just an omen of what was to come.
Goth looked around in awe, eagerly asking about anything an everything he could. Although his eye lingered on a glassware shop. Maris looked over and saw several glass panels depicting various Merskeletons. They were a bit pricy… but made with a true talent.
“Is it alright if I buy the lot?” Marise asked, motioning at the stained glass panels.
“Those have been here for ages, are ya sure ya wanna but em?” The owner asked.
“I’d love to take such beautiful artwork back home with me after this long trip,” Marise hummed with a bright smile. She had a feeling it was the reaper one Goth really took notice of, but it wouldn’t hurt to have these set up somewhere in the giant castle that was her Daycare. “And… I’d like that Soluna Wind-Chime as well if it wouldn’t be too much trouble. Could you deliver them all to this address?” She wrote down the address to the house they were renting.
“Eh, fine, if ya really wanna waste all that money on some silly windows, who am I to judge?” He shrugged, soon rattling off the price. It seemed… a bit low compared to how much the windows were priced individually but oh well. She would take what she could get.

When they got back there was another shark waiting on the waters edge. This one resembled Dust almost, with his blue and blue-red Eyelights. That hoodie that looked like it had seen better days. And a long scarf that trailed behind him like blood in the waves. He was laying right next to the first, watching the house intently. Both their Eyelights shifted to Marise and Goth when they noticed the two coming home.
Instead of handling the fish first, Marise opted to go inside and sort through her spoils. They had bought a mystery net of fish from the fisherman so neither had any clue how much of it was edible or complete garbage. Horror stepped in at this point, easily taking the net from the Animatronic and taking it to the kitchen.
“Ya really wanna put up with those bottom feeders while we’re here?” Dust asked while Marise waited on the fish.
“Why wouldn’t I?” Marise hummed, “it’s nice seeing alternate versions of skeletons I know living vastly different lives.”
“Just seems pretty dumb to me. We don’t even know if they’re all that intelligent or nothin,” Dust huffed, but was soon distracted by Shade whining for attention.
Marise giggled as he fretted over the baby. It really was nice to see him like this…

Okay… now there’s four hungry fish waiting at the water’s edge. The new comers were a Horror lookalike with a glowing red eyelight filling nearly his entire right eye socket. The other was a bit harder to place, as she had only seen the skeleton once. A red eyelight in the left socket with a red scar underneath it. Cross if her memory wasn’t mistaken.
And all four looked hungry…
“Okay I don’t know if you can understand me, but… eh, oh well. There’s only so much fish so I hope you like to share,” Marise said, walking as close as she dared before dumping the net full of fish into the water for the sharks to have at it.
They watched her, waiting. The moment Marise stepped back the four went into a Feeding Frenzy, devouring many fish. But not all. She noticed the Fishy Killer had a sort of sling bag and they “covertly snuck” a choice selection of the best fish into the bag. Huh… are there more members of their little gang or do they just want to eat them at home?
(Author’s note. I’m only stopping here so I can put the next few days in their own posts, this one is getting rather long XD probably gonna take some time to finish more, but I hope y’all liked the first two days.
Oh! And another note. This is further into the timeline, as the Tag implies. Some time after I finish off the Demitale Saga. Still working on that…)
