******SPOILERS, SO MANY SPOILERS AHEAD.*********
I have so much to say I'm afraid my brain might explode. So I'll try to keep calm despite still being at the verge of tears.
When I first started this book series, I thought it would be the usual light, cutesy fantasy about friendship and family. And oh boy, OH BOY WAS I WRONG.
On a side note, something I'd like to point out I noticed, from the first book to the third, the lighting on the cover progressively gets darker. Of course, representing the story itself as the plot gets darker as well. On the last book, it's still dark, but there's a light coming from Janner, Kalmar and Leeli, like they finally reached sunrise after a long, ruthless night. Something i'm pretty sure was said at some point on the books themselves, about no matter how long the night is the day will always come.
Tumblr media
Anyways. Back to the topic at hand. As the story progressed, I keep growing more and more connected to these characters, and each chapter I rooted more and more for the Jewels Of Anniera.
I'd like to add that I'm an only child, yet, somehow, I can tell Janner is one of the best eldest sibling characters ever written. My whole life I've only watched siblings around me and their relationship with eachother, especially on the eldest's side, and somehow, Janner reminded me of every friend, family member or random stranger I saw on the streets someday that have siblings.
Janner is such a complex character. He is by no means perfect, but he does have a golden heart. One of the things I was most impressed by was how the author described Janner's feelings, whatever it was the longing for his father, or just feeling burdened by his siblings. And yet, no matter what Janner is feeling, the narrator never invalidates his feelings or antagonize him. Janner is a child, a child who went through a lot. He is allowed to miss a father he never had just as he is allowed to sometimes be annoyed for always having to make sacrifices for his siblings. But one of the things I admired the most about Janner (along with everyone else I'm pretty sure) was his character development. At the first book, he'd roll his eyes at the mere thought of having to look after his siblings and saw them as a burden. At the second book, he learned the hard way how much Kalmar and Leeli matter to him, and how it hurts to be away from them. On the third book, he took pride on his title as Throne Warden and role as the eldest sibling, being devoted to protecting the High King and Song Maiden. And at last, on the last book, he leaves pride aside. He doesn't take care of Kalmar and Leeli because it's his duty, because it's honorable, neither because that's what he has always been told to do. He does it because he loves them above all else, because he finally sees how strong the bond the three of them share truly is, because he feels the blessing the Maker has gifted them, and how much stronger they are when they're together.
Janner is a kind, brave, clever, beautiful boy.
And I will forever believe that they managed to get him the water from the First Well to heal him. I will nor accept any other ending.
Kalmar. At first, the typical goofy, troublemaking sibling, more like a comic relief. But again, OHOHOHO BOY... DID THAT CHANGE.
I definetely did not expect for them to take the turn they did with Kalmar. I could tell that he would have some character arc mainly towards maturing and taking responsability, but I DID NOT EXPECT IT TO BE LIKE THAT. Seeing that bright, easy-going, smiley little boy loosing his usual joyful personality when he was fanged, slowly loosing his sanity and growing on his self loathing was really something painful yet beautiful to watch. Like Janner, he also had to learn his lesson on the hardest way possible. An extrovert kid like him, having everyone turning their backs on him and looking at him with hatred, and yet, he learned to keep his head high, like a High King. (the phrase "keep your head held high or else your crown will fall" is literally perfect for him.) And most of all, seeing him risk his life to aid a strange cloven, (that turned out to be his father) grant the Hollowsfolk his forgiveness despite everything they did to him, show mercy and compassion to the Fangs despite everything they did, all of these things make Kalmar an inspiring ruler, and leaves me assured that he will be a great king after all.
Now, Leeli, sweet, pure-hearted Leeli. I will be honest, at first I was afraid that they would make her the typical "overly nice and overly fragile female character", but again, BOY WAS I WRONG. (I don't know how many times I will repeat that, I apologize.) At some points in the books, she didn't have as much spotlight as her brother and I felt like she was kind of being thrown aside. But there's always a turn the books take that make her lack of spotlight at first worth it. So young, the youngest of the Jewels Of Anniera, yet she has seen and done so much. Has a bad leg, needed to use a crutch since she was little, yet that literally never stopped her. She strives to keep up with her brothers, and despite his kind personality she shows she can be festy and even scary when she wants to. (I will never forget that moment in the second book where she was yelling at the trolls and fangs and they were actually eager to obey her lol). She hates it when people assume she's weak and often refuses help, proving she's perfectly capable. But at times, she does need help, which shows us all it's okay to have someone to rely on. She was the link between Janner and Kalmar, no matter how much they argued nor how mad they were at eachother, she was always there for both of them and connecting them back together. She may not be able to fight like her brothers, but she found her own strenght. Her music, something that has always brought joy and hope to others turns out to be an ACTUAL weapon. She kicked a Green Fang to defend her puppy, she was the first one to see the pain and kindess through Peet, Nugget sacrificed himself for her showing how her strong her love for others really is, she stopped A FREAKING DRAGON from killing her grandpa, she led an army of dogs, she defeated countless fangs with nothing but her song. One of the best child female chracters I've seen in a while. She is feminine, has her weak points, but she finds her strenght, not in swords, punches or bows but on a whistleharp. I love her so much I can't describe it.
I love all of these kids so much. I am *proud* of them. I know it's a weird thing to say about fictional characters, but these books just make me feel this way. I can't name a single character I didn't connect or feel empathy with.
Nia, such a strong, independent woman, raising her children having lost her husband and kingdom, yet keep her head held high like the queen she is.
Podo, a man who has sinned, takes shame on them, yet shows that sinners can still be good people. Loves his family above all else, protected and took care of them until his last breath, might have been a little rough around the edges, but always showed a soft spot for his daughter and grandkids.
Artham, a broken man, haunted by the shame of loosing his brother, slowly, but surely, healing. Learning to move on by protecting his nephews and niece, making what was once a weakness a strenght.
Oskar, an old man that was always sitting on the library, letting go of his peaceful life and risking his life to accompany the Wingfeathers through thick and thin.
Sara, who was taken from her family, abused and had all her hope crushed, finding her courage back after meeting Janner and taking after him, being a sisterly figure, leader and queen ti billions of orphan children, and helping them find their strenght and fight for their freedom.
Maraly, a rude strander girl who was raised horribly her whole life by her abusive father, finally finding true love and a true father figure.
Everything about this story has touched me. A broken world taken by an evil monarch who turned to be just another broken soul, filled with hopeless people, people who had surrended to the darkness... Saved by three children, who brought light everywhere they went. A boy with scars, a boy inside a wolf, and a girl with a crutch. Kids who one day were mere peasants, the other were the Jewels Of Anniera, and a year later, heroes of Aerwiar.
I've smiled, I've laughed, I've been shocked, I've been scared, I've been mad, I've cried. I have red lots, and I mean LOTS of books. Different stories, different worlds, different characters. Yet none of them has touched me half as much as The Wingfeather Saga.
It has war, tears, bloodshed, betrayals, sacrifices and sorrow. But it also has love, joy, hope, laughter, wonder and light.
This story definetely deserves way more fans and recognition. I hope that with the new animated series (which I'll definetely watch later) it begins to gain more love.
Tumblr media
Anyways. I really love this in case y'all couldn't tell already. Have a good day/afternoon/evening.

Aside from the poem having to be cut short due to length (which is a shame, you did such a moving job!! I cried reading the full version lol), was there anything on Tyril's route (on either B2 or B3) that you considered doing but ultimately decided against? And what was the reasoning behind it?
I'm a writer, so I get really curious about people's processes and all the paths non-taken - specially if it's about my silly elf husband (!!!) with whom I've been obsessed with for years lol
Great to have you in the fandom, and thank you for taking your time to indulge us haha! Wish you nothing but success and happiness in your new ventures, Lil <33
Aw shucks thank you I'm so glad you liked the poem and you're so freaking kind 😭😭😭😭😭! This is a very interesting and ultimately very complicated question so please be patient as I work through some stuff lol.
Speaking again not as the official word, but generally since I wasn't a lead on Blades and it is Pixelberry's IP, this was just how I justified things in my own personal estimation.
The thing about Blades, and the thing that I think that people most don't like to hear, is that six LIs is a LOT, and that is (arguably) what was publicly committed to when Blades 2 was greenlit. It takes the book from a standard freemium VN to an otome format in a sense, and those have very different expectations on the real estate each character can take up. While we might aspire to be Dragon Age (especially Dragon Age 2, my fave), VNs are not open world RPGs, so we were bound by certain rules of linearity and demands on QA's time that mean some characters/elements will need to be pushed to the side in a way that a standard RPG wouldn't have to. (I adore Romance Club, but they are working with very different production pipelines for various reasons.)
I know that in the early days of Blades 2, Andrew was quoted as saying Book 2 was Mal's book much like how Book 1 was Nia's to a certain point, but in my estimations, as the development of 2 continued and we unpacked the extent of Mal's trauma from the core premise of 2, we realized he would be retreating into himself before going outward once he reached Whitetower and had to confront his past, while Tyril and Nia's personal conflicts locked in more actively to the conflict and reveals at the front of the book because of their relationship to the Light and the Elven Pantheon.
Tyril was a very useful voice for the personal impact of the imperialist hegemonic beliefs Nifara put in place in Light worshippers, and his breakdown in Zaradun was one of my favorite elements of the book to work on, partly because it was the first time we heard from Nifara in her own voice (I love that camp queen), but also because the Elven culture is very, very troubled, and it was very important to be able to explore that as it manifests in someone we know who very desperately wants to be a "good" person as much as "good" is an empirical quality in the Blades verse. (Spoilers, it's not, just as Light and Shadow themselves are not.) We really wanted to make it clear that 1) Tyril wasn't going to magically undo all this programming overnight because you talked to him once and 2) that he was capable of change if he worked on it.
Because Tyril has such a large role in 2 in terms of theme and did a lot of growing there (standing up to the Elves, protecting Valax, etc.), it was only fair that his ongoing conflict with the Elves take a backseat to the actual politics of the Afterlife and continuing Mal and Imtura's arcs in Book 3 to a meaningful conclusion since both of them had only begun to unpack their trauma in Book 2. The Elves' co-option of Tyril's death as a reason to isolate themselves once again is a great way to add urgency and complication to what's happening in the world above in Book 3 and I legit had SO many pitches of complications for that element (Nia and MCchoosing if they're going to use a Joan of Arc persona! The orcs' potential war profiteering! Aerin having to decide if he's going to seek the crown! Adrina and Valir having a falling out because he's ultimately a moderate and she is not!), but ultimately the dramatic questions of Blades 3 (again, this is just my POV here) is "Can you trust the world you built to be better after you're gone?" and "How much do heroes have to give up before they're allowed to rest?"
I'd argue that within its very conception, Blades 3 had a bit of a Return of the King/"Scouring of the Shire" difficulty in that you could literally do a whole book about trying to mop up the mess in Morella between the Elves and Arlan and the potential exposure of Aurinae's crimes used to uphold Arlan's rule and what it means for the other Morellan former city-states. It isn't the kind of conflict that gets resolved in one or two or even three chapters. It's a freaking civil war! In many parts of the world, that shit isn't resolved for a century or more.
I will always be able to do thought experiments about said war, but Pixelberry already has a very fun and complex fantasy book about a war for succession (also by a member of the Blades team) called The Crown & the Flame. (Again, to my mind) if you're going to attempt something in that vein, you need to be at least as good as the gold standard that was TC&TF, and there just wasn't room to do that in Blades Book 3 without short shrifting major plotlines that were started in Book 2.
The absolute beauty of this world, of any well constructed speculative world, is that it could go on forever in almost any direction. Where I come from, we call that the Tolkien and Terry Pratchett Standard, and I think that's pretty cool. :)

9-1-1: FLASHBACK
It’s been a few weeks since I’ve posted a 911: Flashback so there’s no better time than the present to jump back in. My last reaction was to an episode from season one involving a plane crash. Today, I’m going to be reacting to a multi-car highway pile-up in season four. The episode is called Blindsided” and it originally aired on April 19, 2021, on FOX. It was written by Andrew Meyers and directed by Marcus Stokes. So, dear readers, pay close attention to this reaction so you’re not blindsided!
Tumblr media
Recap
Tumblr media
The beginning of this episode is a stark reminder of what life was like during lockdown. Maddie wakes suddenly, scaring Chimney who is sleeping next to her. He thinks she’s gone into labor, but she tells him she hasn’t. We then get a black screen with the words: 42 Weeks Pregnant. Scratch that! 42 Weeks 1 Day Pregnant. We then get a montage of our mom and dad-to-be attempting to induce labor. Chimney catches Maddie chugging hot and sour soup. The following day, Maddie gets stuck in a yoga pose. Chimney helps her up. Maddie says she’s impatient and ready to give birth. Chimney gives a list of other things she has tried to go into labor. Pineapple, raspberry tea. Spicy foods. Exercise. Nothing’s working! Chimney asks Maddie about what they should try next, and she suggests they have sex. She then throws her clothes at him and two get to gettin’. The next day, Albert drives Maddie and Chimney to the hospital. In the backseat, Maddie tells Chimney she thought labor would be more painful. They arrive at First Presbyterian Hospital believing today will be the day they will meet their kid. Seemingly a few minutes later, the two exit the hospital. Maddie tells Albert that today is not the day.
Tumblr media
After the title card, we see Hen and Karen meet with social worker Diedra (played by Andi Chapman). Their foster daughter Nia (played by Margot Terry) is taken away, briefly, to see her biological mother. Hen and Karen are clearly bothered by this because they’ve become quite attached to Nia. Diedra says they should talk about scheduling overnight visits for Nia and her birth mom. The three of them go outside and Hen tells Diedra that he and Karen want to meet Nia’s biological mom. Diedra says she cannot set up a meeting between the Wilsons and Nia’s mom – something Hen and Karen already know. Hen argues that she and Karen need to make sure Nia is safe. Diedra reminds Hen it is the state’s job to ensure Nia is safe and this process has always been about reunification. Karen asks if there is anything Diedra can tell them about Nia’s mom. Diedra tells her that she cannot tell them anything beyond the fact that Nia’s birth mom has demonstrated an ability to give Nia a safe and stable home. Hen points out that she and Karen don’t even know what got Nia in foster care in the first place. Diedra empathizes with how Hen and Karen are feeling, Due to the pandemic, Nia has been with Hen and Karen longer than intended. Hen asks about what options her and Karen have. She asks if they can adopt Nia. Diedra reminds them both that they have done a great job looking after Nia; however, reuniting Nia with her birth mom has always been the main goal. She then says that even if they can put Nia back with her mom, the state doesn’t just walk away. There will be follow-up visits and check-ins to ensure Nia is safe. Diedra heads back inside and Hen is fuming. Karen asks her to calm down. Hen asks how she can calm down when their family is being torn apart. She asks Karen how she can be calm. Karen says she is upset, too, but this is how things must be.

We head over to the dispatch center. May shows up for her shift but is too busy looking at her phone that she runs into Josh. She quickly apologizes and tells him she just got a friend request from her high school bully – Laila Creedy.  Josh suggests that he respond to Laila’s request on her behalf but May assures him she is okay. She tells him she’s going to ignore it. It’s been three years, and it doesn’t matter what Laila has to say anymore. Meanwhile, in the breakroom, Maddie is experiencing Braxton-Hicks contractions. Linda (played by Chiquita Fuller) walks in to refresh her coffee. She asks Maddie if she and Chimney have a name picked out for their baby. We then get a flashback of Maddie and Chimney tossing around potential names for their daughter. We hear the names Piper, Poppy, Princess, and Priscilla. Each name gets shot down by Maddie. In the present, Maddie tells Linda the name is TBD. Linda then tells a funny story about her mom giving birth to her baby brother. She says that by the time her mom arrived at the hospital, she still didn’t have a name picked out. After giving birth, she decided to name her son after the doctor that delivered him. The doctor’s name was Norman and Linda’s last name is Bates. Yup! Linda’s brother is Norman Bates. Canon! Maddie immediately texts Chimney and tells him they need a baby name ASAP.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We get our first call of the episode. A young boy named Jacob (played by Antonio Raul Corbo) is riding in the backseat of his mom’s SUV. He dials 9-1-1 and his call is answered by Maddie. He tells her his mother is driving down the wrong side of the freeway. Shout out to this kid who really sells the fear of being helpless to stop something bad from happening. His mother is visibly drunk and not responding to his pleas to stop the vehicle. More calls pour into the dispatch center regarding the vehicle going the wrong way. Jacob’s mother continues to drive erratically while he begs her to pull over. There are several near-misses with other cars driving towards them until they eventually crash head-on with a van. The line goes dead as Maddie sits in stunned silence. Several other vehicles crash into the SUV. The scene looks like something out of a post-apocalyptic horror movie.
Tumblr media
In her first appearance in the episode, Athena races to the scene of the accident. She talks to her husband who reports there are three casualties so far and at least a dozen injured. The two of them walk over to the vehicle that started the accident. Eddie reports he’s picked up a heat signature in the front seat and a smaller heat signature in the back. Athena says that dispatch says they got a call from the driver’s son. Chimney realizes Jacob is trapped inside the car. Bobby and Eddie use saws and jaws to pry open the roof of the vehicle. Jacob is unconscious but, thankfully, alive. The driver, too, is miraculously alive. Chimney assesses the mom and Jacob for injuries while Athena speculates as to what caused the accident. She finds a half-empty bottle of whisky on the floor and asks, “How many people have to die tonight because she was drunk and stupid?”. The camera pans over to Bobby, and it is clear his wife’s question hits a little too close to home. Bobby checks in on Hen and asks how she’s doing. Hen reports she is not good. A kid getting hurt by the adult who is supposed to be protecting them is hitting a little too close to home as well. She tells Bobby she will be fine because they are doing their job. There’s a double meaning to her words. Hen clearly thinks she and Karen are the best for Nia; not Nia’s birth mother. Next, we see a firefighter named Renfrow, from the 132, attempting to extract someone from their car. Bobby yells to him asking if he remembered to disable the airbags. Renfrow doesn’t hear Bobby which is a shame because the vehicle he is standing next to suddenly explodes, knocking everyone down.
Tumblr media
Chimney runs over to Renfrow to see if he’s okay. Thankfully, he is still conscious, but he has some burns on the right side of his face. Buck goes to see after the driver who is also alive. He requests a burn blanket. Bobby is stunned by the chaos around him. Knowing his own history with substance abuse, you can see he is struggling to keep focused while trying not to dwell on his own previous accident. Meanwhile, over at dispatch, Maddie is attempting to answer a call from someone stuck in traffic behind the accident. However, her contractions are starting to intensify. Sue Blevins clocks the pained expression on her face and intercepts the call. She then asks Maddie how long she’s been in labor. Maddie tells her it’s hard to tell. She looks at her watch and tells Sue she has an hour left. Maddie is adamant that she can continue to work but Sue overrides her. We then get back to the scene of the accident. Athena tells Eddie she already has a warrant for the arrest of the drunk driver and says she will be heading to the hospital. Bobby approaches and Athena asks him if he is okay. He tells her he’s doing fine. Even though Athena was very judgmental of the drunk driver, she does look genuinely concerned about her husband. Sue Blevins radios to Bobby and asks him if he can spare a paramedic for a woman in labor. Bobby tells her there should be paramedics closer to the dispatch center than his paramedics currently are. Sue radios back and says but none of those paramedics are the baby’s father. Athena immediately catches on and eventually so does Bobby. He looks over at Chimney and tells him the rest of them can handle things and he needs to go meet his daughter. Chimney is absolutely adorable in this moment. He’s so ecstatic about meeting his daughter. Athena offers him a ride to the hospital since she is going there to arrest the drunk driver. Back over at the dispatch center, Josh takes Maddie to the hospital.

Next, we head over to the hospital. Athena notices a man at the nurses’ station. He’s inquiring about his wife, but the nurse tells him he cannot see her because she is in a secure room. The man is upset, and Athena asks if everything is okay. The nurse tells Athena that he’s there to see Rachel Hawkerson – the drunk driver responsible for the pile-up on the freeway. Athena takes him to the side and explains what happens. She tells him that he cannot see his wife because she is in custody while the LAPD investigates the cause of the accident. The man, whose name is Wyatt Hawkerson (played by Ramón De Ocampo) puts two and two together and realizes his wife is the reason for the accident. He says that he saw on the news the accident was caused by a drunk driver. Wyatt is in semi-disbelief and tells Athena his wife would never drink with their son in the car. She promised him she would never drink around Jacob. Athena tells him that sometimes people break their promises. The two go outside and Wyatt makes a call to the children’s hospital where Jacob is being treated. When he hangs up, he tells Athena that Jacob is still in surgery. He says he needs to get over there and Athena offers to have another officer take him. Wyatt asks Athena if Rachel said anything at the scene of the accident. Athena tells him his wife wasn’t coherent. She asks Wyatt if he knew Rachel was drinking and he says he thought all of this was behind them. He tells Athena that his marriage was nearly ruined by Rachel’s drinking but when Jacob came along, things got better. He then asks Athena if she’s sure his wife was drinking. Athena tells him Rachel’s blood alcohol concentration was four times the legal limit which explains why she became disoriented while driving. She also tells him that it was Jacob who placed the call to 9-1-1. Wyatt starts to cry and Athena comforts him. She tells him he didn’t know and he says he should have.

Meanwhile, Chimney makes it to the delivery room and goes to be by Maddie’s side. He asks if she needs anything and he tells her she needs her breathing beads. He tells her they are in the baby bag which is in Albert’s car. Chimney tells her he will call Albert to see if he can bring the bag to the hospital. Chimney calls Albert but ends up getting his voicemail. Maddie tells him it’s okay right as the doctor arrives. She tells Maddie and Chimney it’s go-time. We then switch over to the dispatch center where May is responding to a call. The man on the line tells her that he thinks he was involved in the accident. May tells him that first responders are already on the scene, and he should see them. He tells her he doesn’t see anyone. She asks him if he is injured and he says he’s bleeding. We then see the interior of a vehicle where Albert is trapped behind the wheel. Blood trickles from the ceiling down onto his face. We then get a zoom out where we see that his car is upside down.
Tumblr media
Next, we get a title card that says: 1 Minute Before the Pile Up. We see Albert driving in his SUV. He sees a car coming towards him on the freeway and calls 9-1-1. He ends up getting hit and swerves off the road. His car flips several times before landing in an embankment. We flash forward to the present where Sue Blevins radios to Bobby about a call they received from a driver who says he was involved in the pile-up. Bobby is confused because everyone involved in the accident has been tended to. Sue tells him the person says they are trapped in their car. She turns to May and asks her to call the number. When May dials the number, she hears Albert’s voicemail. She reports this to Bobby. Buck, who is listening in, asks May what the voicemail greeting said. She repeats Albert’s voicemail greeting back verbatim which is all the confirmation Buck needs. The remaining 118 spring into action while Maddie starts pushing. The 118 fan out and start double-checking all the vehicles involved in the crash. They don’t see any signs of Albert. Bobby radios to dispatch to ask about which call came in before the pileup. May tells him the call came in from exit 43. Buck quickly realizes that Albert wasn’t a part of the accident; he was in front of the accident. The 118 drive to the exit and Buck jumps out. He sees Albert’s car and can see Albert trapped inside. Bobby, Hen, Buck, and Eddie work fast to get to Albert. Hen checks him out and sees that he is bleeding internally. Albert starts to code right as Maddie gives birth. Very symbolic. Hen attempts to resuscitate Albert and tells him he has a niece he needs to meet. Maddie and Chimney’s baby appears to be happy and healthy. Hen continues to perform chest compressions and eventually Albert opens his eyes. Chimney tells Maddie everything is perfect. He tells her he loves her. She says, “I love us.”
Tumblr media
Morning finally comes and it’s time for May, Josh, Linda and Jamal (played by Ashwin Gore) to end their shift. Josh announces that Maddie gave birth to a baby girl. Jamal asks if they want to have drinks to celebrate. Linda reminds him it’s morning. They decide to get breakfast instead. They ask May to tag alone but she declines, She looks at her phone, again, and sees the friend request from Laila. Sue walks up to May and tells her that Albert is alive and his condition is stable. May is relieved because it would’ve been horrible if they’d lost him on the same day as Maddie and Chimney’s baby was born. Sue tells May to go home and get some rest.
Tumblr media
We head back over to the hospital. Buck brings Maddie’s baby bag to her room. He tries to tell Chimney about Albert, but Chimney is too busy gushing over his new baby. He tells Buck that Maddie and the baby are both doing well. He then sees the baby bag in Buck’s hand and asks him why he has it. Before Buck can explain, we switch over to the Wilsons’ residence. Hen walks through the front door and sees Nia’s overnight bag packed. Karen reminds Hen of Nia’s overnight visit. Hen tells her that after the night she has had she wants Nia at home. Karen finally pushes back and tells Hen that it’s not going to happen. They can keep fighting this but it’s not going to change anything. Nia is going to be reunited with her mother and that’s that. Hen once again accuses Karen of not fighting hard enough but the latter tells her there is no fight. Nia has a mother. Nia is not theirs – even if they love her like she is theirs. Karen says she is holding on, but she can’t do it alone. I was so proud of Karen in this moment because this woman puts up with so much and is so patient. I’m glad she stood up against Hen while also being very loving.
Tumblr media
Back at the hospital, we see Chimney sitting at Albert bedside. Chimney tells his comatose brother about what it was like to watch his baby being born. He talks about being a dad. He tells Albert he cant wait for him to meet his niece. What I like most about this scene is it shows how far Chimney’s come with accepting his half-brother. The two have really become close over the last year, almost as close as Buck and Maddie. Chimney then asks Albert if he has any suggestions for names. He also asks Albert to wake up and reminds him that the Hans are great healers. Ain’t that the truth, Chim. Ain’t that the truth. Chimney says he finally has everything he’s ever wanted – a family of his own. His family includes Albert. He also says that today could be the best day of his because he has his baby girl and his brother didn’t die. Chimney then starts to cry. Albert slowly regains consciousness. He can barely say anything, but Chimney assures him they have plenty of time to talk.
Tumblr media
We head over to the Grant-Nash household. Athena walks into the kitchen and tells Bobby she heard about Albert. She asks if he is okay and Bobby says that he is alive. He then asks her about Jacob. Athena announces his surgery was a success and that he is stable and recovering with his dad. Athena then says that Jacob’s mother got lucky and only walked away with some minor scrapes and bruises. She tells Bobby that her husband, Jacob’s dad, had no clue she was drinking again. She then says she isn’t so sure she believes him. Bobby tells her that he could be telling her the truth or that he just needed to believe it was true. Athena apologizes to Bobby for what she said at the accident. Bobby tells her she wasn’t wrong. What Rachel Hawkerson did was drunk and stupid and people died because of her actions. He then tells Athena that while he doesn’t know her, he knows what it’s like to inflict that kind of damage. Athena assures him he is nothing like Rachel but Bobby pushes back by saying he is exactly like Rachel and that the day he forgets that it will be a very dangerous day. He then tells Athena he needs to get out for a bit. He tells her he loves her and she says she loves him, too. We next see Bobby at an AA meeting where he is speaking with a room full of fellow addicts. We then get a montage where we see Wyatt Hawkerson talking with Jacob. We see Rachel being handcuffed to her hospital bed. Eddie hugs Christopher. Hen and Karen say goodbye to Nia after their visit. We see Maddie and Chimney at home with the baby and they are FaceTiming with Buck. Chimney refers to Buck as “Uncle Buck” completely unaware Maddie has already used the name. They both let him believe it’s the first time it’s been said. We learn Maddie and Chimney still haven’t picked out a name for their baby girl. Maddie finally tells Chimney she has a name for their little one. The name she has chosen is Jee-Yun which is Chimney’s mother’s name. Maddie tells him she spoke with Mrs. Lee to tell her about the baby and about Albert. Mrs. Lee kept saying she wished Chimney’s mother could be there. So, that’s how she got the idea to name their baby after her grandmother. Chimney is touched by the gesture and says it’s a beautiful name. Maddie mentions Albert and says, talk about bad luck. Chimney says he doesn’t think it was bad luck what happened to Albert. In fact, he says he’s beginning to think they are the luckiest people ever.
Observations
Tumblr media
Albert is driving for Lyft. In Season 8, after moving home to El Paso, Eddie will start driving for Lyft.
It’s so strange to see everyone wearing face masks. I wonder how it was for the actors to have to emote using only their eyes.
May gets a friend request from Laila Creedy. The last time we saw Laila was back in season one. Laila used to bully May which eventually led to the latter attempting suicide. We do not get to see if she accepts or declines the friend request.
There’s a lot of parallels between 9-1-1 and it’s spinoff 9-1-1: Lone Star. In this episode, Maddie (a dispatcher) is pregnant. Chimney’s half-brother Albert is involved in an accident and nearly dies. Chimney (a firefighter/paramedic) is not with Maddie when she goes into labor. Maddie and Chimney decide to name their daughter after a deceased family member – Chimney’s mom, Jee-Yun. In season 3 of Lone Star, Grace Ryder (a dispatcher) is pregnant. Judd Ryder’s coworker TK Strand is on life-support after nearly freezing to death. Judd (a firefighter) is not with Grace when she goes into labor. Grace and Judd decide to name their daughter after a deceased family friend – Charles Vega.
Athena as a member of law enforcement is very judgmental. I know officers should have good judgment but the things she said around not only Bobby but Rachel at the scene of the accident was very unprofessional IMO.
Speaking of Rachel Hawkerson, we will see her again in a future episode.
I love the Maddie and Linda coworker dynamic, and I wish we got to see them interact more.
It’s kind of weird seeing Chimney at someone’s bedside when it’s often others sitting at his bedside.
Maddie and Chimney decide to name their daughter after Chimney’s deceased mother. They will later name their son after Chimney’s deceased fire captain – Bobby Nash.
Maddie and Chimney are back to living together in this episode. When season four premieres, Maddie is living with Albert and Chimney is living with Buck.
Funny Moments
Tumblr media
Maddie tossing her shirt at Chimney because she’s ready to get busy.
Maddie being nonchalant about having contractions.
May telling Josh she got a friend request from someone she went to high school with and him saying, “Ah, a whole seven months ago”.
Maddie writing “I really don’t want to pick our baby’s name this way” on a piece of paper and Chimney saying it won’t fit on their daughter’s driver’s license.
Linda’s brother’s name is Norman Bates. That’s funny to me for some reason.
Athena’s advice to Chimney: “If she tells you to shut up, shut up.”
Maddie does end up telling Chimney to shut up when he’s been toxically optimistic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Season 4 is such an interesting season. It’s a reminder of how uncertain things were during this time. The pandemic introduced me to this show and after binging the first three seasons, I honestly wondered if there would be a fourth one due to everything that was going on with Covid and such. Thankfully, we did get this season, and I like how they didn’t shy away from showing the effects of the pandemic. As weird as it is to say, I like seeing everyone wearing masks. They could have just ignored everything and wrote a regular season that didn’t address the pandemic. I’m so happy the writers chose to lean into what was going on in the real world. Maddie and Chimney’s story is very relatable. Having been inpatient during the first year of the pandemic after undergoing surgery, I remember how scary it was and how isolated I felt not being able to have my family visit me regularly. There was a lot of FaceTiming and phone calls and text messages to keep me connected with my loved ones, but it wasn’t the same. Maddie giving birth is one of the high points of the episode. Her and Chimney have been through so much over the last few years. It was nice to see them have a win even if they still had to contend with Albert getting hurt in the accident. I also like the other plot points we got this episode. Hen and Karen’s story is sad because despite knowing they would some day have to give Nia back to her mom, that didn’t stop them from falling in love with that adorable little girl. Then we have May who has to make the decision if she’s going to reconnect with the person who drove her to nearly end her life. I especially loved the moments between Bobby and Athena. I love the open and honest conversation they have at the end of the episode. I really like that Bobby makes no distinction between him and Rachel Hawkerson. I think that helps Athena to understand him better. I love how candid Bobby is about his addiction and his efforts to remain sober. I love them as a couple so much. In fact, I think that is one of my favorite things about the show – the couples. Overall, this episode is definitely one I would say is recommended viewing for someone new to the show. I think it’s one of the most important episodes of not only the season but the show. Welcome to the world, Baby Jee-Yun Buckley-Han! We have been waiting on you! Speaking of waiting, hopefully you all will not have to wait too long for my next edition of 911: Flashback. Until next time …

Enjoy! And yes, I came up with that title when I was still salty but...it fits so....xD
In case you can't read it on AO3, here it is below as well:
The REAL Epilogue
Burning. That was the first thing he felt. But as soon as he was aware of it, the pain dissolved into a pleasant warmth, radiating throughout his entire body.
Then he heard music. Sweet, beautiful music. A melody that increased the warmth in his body. For a moment, he couldn’t place why it sounded so familiar. Then it hit him. It was a whistleharp. Leeli’s whistle harp.
Everything that happened over the last few days - no, the last few months- came surging back. Every memory, both good and bad, hitting him like a sledgehammer.
Jolting upright, he gasped - a deep breath that he didn’t know his lungs needed until they had it. He looked around frantically. Had the stone worked? Was everyone okay? Where was he? It looked vaguely familiar but…
“Janner!”
A voice that Janner hadn’t heard in months filled his ears, but before he could fully grasp who he was looking at, arms flung around him, squeezing him tighter than they ever had before.
“Kal.” The name left Janner’s mouth before he even thought to say it as he found himself returning the hug. His brother was okay. He was human. Janner had protected him. But then…
“What-?”
His words were cut off as another pair of arms wrapped around him. Leeli had stopped playing and Janner moved one arm so he could hug her back. Both of his siblings were here. They were okay. But…where was here?
As he turned his attention to the forest around him, Janner caught sight of Nia looking at him, almost in disbelief. And next to her…
“Uncle Artham!”
Janner hadn’t seen his uncle in months, and just the sight of him brought a joy to his heart that he hadn’t been expecting. That joy grew when he saw Oskar and…
For a moment, Janner just stared at the girl standing there, her hand over her mouth. Could it really be? Then their eyes met and Janner knew. Only one girl had that light in her eyes, light that had carried him through some of the darkest moments of his life.
Sara Cobbler.
A moment after their eyes met, she let out a sob – but not one full of sorrow. It was a cry of joy. Which seemed to break a silent spell that had been holding the others back.
In a moment, Janner was surrounded by all those he loved. Being hugged – and kissed by Nia. A happy laughter filled the clearing, even as questions filled his head.
After everyone had sufficiently hugged him, Janner was finally able to ask the question that had entered his mind as soon as he woke.
“What happened? Where are we? How am I…?” His voiced trailed off. Had he just been asleep, or…had he died?
For a moment, the joy in the clearing faded as everyone traded looks.
Artham was the first to break the silence.
“The First Well.”
“What?” Janner looked around again and noticed for the first time, the sound of water.
“I remembered where it was.” Kalmar said, then laughed a little. “Though, it was a little harder to find as a human.”
“How…how long was I…?” Once again, Janner couldn’t make himself say the word.
“Three days.” Nia said softly, a shadow passing over her face, only to lift when Leeli spoke.
“But you’re okay now!”
“Right…” Janner nodded. “But what happened…I mean, is Anniera…is everyone…?”
“They’re all human again.” Kalmar said.
Relief washed over Janner. Then he caught Sara’s eye again.
“How did you…when did you-?”
Sara laughed. “It’s a long story.”
“Yes, and one better told around a fire, if I do say so myself.” Oskar piped in.
“Sounds good to me!” Kalmar said, which set everyone off laughing.
So, a fire was built, and Sara told Janner all about Dugtown. How she had rallied the orphans and escaped the Fork Factory – right at the same time Artham and Gammon had arrived to free them. And about the Fang’s attack and sudden disappearance from Skree. A shadow passed her face when she talked about her parents, how they hadn’t survived. But it lifted when she told him how her and the other orphans had decided that, if they were going to start a new life, they’d love for it to be in a place like Anniera.
Then Kalmar and the others filled him in on what happened after he had taken the stone, at least, for the most part. Janner had the feeling they were dancing around the word he himself had a hard time saying. But Kalmar told him all about giving everyone new names – which he admitted was kind of strange, as the names seemed to just come to him.
After that, came the story of how they found The First Well again. The sea dragons had taken them as far as the Blackwood, but they had to travel into the forest on foot. Kalmar told him how he retraced their steps from Clovenfast, and eventually found the water that he had given Oood only a week ago.
By the time the stories had been told, it was dark out. Nia insisted everyone get some sleep, which Janner was happy to do. Until he couldn’t fall asleep. He didn’t know why. He was tired. But something kept him up.
Eventually, he sat up, sighing as he quietly stood and walked a little closer to look at the water. The First Well water. It didn’t look different than any other water. But he knew better. Besides, the clearing itself had a calming presence, as if everything around it knew the water was special.
“I’m glad I found it again.”
Janner quickly looked over to see Kalmar, sitting against a rock, looking straight ahead. He didn’t look up, even as Janner sat down next to him.
“Me too.” Janner said quietly.
For a moment, they just sat in silence. Then Janner found that he couldn’t keep wondering any more. “Kal? Did…did I die?”
Kalmar stiffened, but didn’t answer right away.
“Kal?”
“Yes.”
It was a whisper, barely audible. But it sent a shiver down Janner’s spine.
“You took the stone from me.” Kalmar added, a heaviness in his voice.
“I know.”
“It was supposed to be me! Not you!” The force of the words broke through the silence of the clearing. Through the light of the moon, Janner could see tears in Kalmar’s eyes. And it was then that Janner realized there were already tear streaks on his brother’s face. As if he had already been crying.
“No, Kal. It wasn’t.”  Janner placed a hand on his brother’s shoulder, willing him to look at him. But he didn’t. “It’s my job to protect you. Anniera needs its king.”
“And I need you!” Kalmar shot back, looking at Janner for the first time. Then he seemed to realize what he said and shrunk back. If he was still fanged, his ears would’ve flattened on his head.
“Kal…” Janner didn’t know what to say. It was his job to keep Kalmar safe. And he didn’t regret what he’d done. But he couldn’t imagine what he would feel like if Kalmar had died protecting him.
Silence grew between them once again, only the sound of the water running filled the air.
“I don’t want to be king if it means you’ll die protecting me.” Kalmar said quietly. “I knew what I was doing…what…what I was supposed to do. I was ready.”
Even as he said it, Janner couldn’t believe it. He remembered the sadness in Kalmar’s eyes that morning on Anniera. Could anyone really be ready for their own death? Especially a kid?
“But I wasn’t ready to see you-” Kalmar’s voice cracked and he hugged his legs, shutting his eyes tight.
If anyone else had been around, Janner might’ve hesitated to hug his brother, but not tonight. He wrapped his arms around Kalmar and hugged him tight, wishing he could say something to help him. But what could be said?
Minutes passed before Janner spoke again. It might not make anything easier for Kalmar, but he had to try.
“I’m sorry, Kal. I…when I saw you with the stone, and realized what you were going to do, I knew I couldn’t let you. It needed to be me. And I don’t regret it.”
The only response was a shaky breath.
“But…Kal, I didn’t do it to hurt you, and I’m sorry it did.”
There was a quiet sniffle. “I can’t just tell you not to do anything like that again, can I?”
Janner swallowed. Because he knew that answer, and Kalmar did too. “I’ll always do whatever I can to protect you, Kal. And maybe one day it will happen again. But…I’m here now, okay?”
Kalmar opened his eyes and looked at Janner, really looked at him. The conflicting emotions swirling in the blue matched Janner’s own. For a moment, they just looked at each other, then Kal nodded. “Okay.”
His voice was still quiet, but it was stronger than it had been. The voice of a king accepting the responsibility of his life.
“Besides,” Janner lightly hit Kalmar’s arm. “You need someone to keep an eye on you for a while. You’re only eleven.”
The smallest smile grew on Kal’s face. “And you need someone to beat you in zibzy and keep your from sitting around reading all day.”
At that, Janner couldn’t hold back a laugh. “Maybe I’ll stand a chance now that you aren’t a wolf.”
“In your dreams.” Kalmar said, joining in the laughter.
The rest of the night was filled with reminiscing and dreaming of possibilities, until both of them fell asleep, imagining a future without the threat of Gnag or Fangs.
And a future they had. The Jewels of Anniera grew, married, and had children of their own. Thorn of course, married Leeli, and Janner’s heart only ever belonged to Sara. And Kalmar found a queen that rivaled even Nia in strength and courage. The stories of their childhood were told near and far, becoming legends that children from all corners of the world listened to with rapt attention. And under King Kalmar’s rule, all of Aerwiar prospered, and Aneira once again became the place of beauty and love that it had once been.

Going to tag the Descendants mooties, @rose-of-oz, @dancingsunflowers-ocs, @arrows-unofficial-ocs, @brokenhardies, and @kendelias!
Sade Lyon, daughter of Simba and Nala, Lonnie Li ship (FC: Nia Sondaya)
One of the princesses of Pride Rock, Sade has always been beloved by the people of her kingdom and she loved her home immensly. Still, life at the top of the food chain is lonely, and Sade longs for like-minded companions. She thinks she can find them at Auradon Prep and begs her parents to be allowed to go. Enamoured with an enchanted saber tooth necklace, which lets her transform between lion and human, she heads off for a new adventure. Sade finds herself falling for her peer mentor Lonnie Li instantly, but doesn't quite know how to go for it yet. An animal lover at heart, she can usually be found in the animal habitat she built at Auradon Prep. When the VKs come to Auradon, Sade looks at the situation with mixed emotions.
Tumblr media
Glory of Camelot, daughter of Guinevere and Lancelot, OC ship (FC: Greta Onieogou)
Glory is the middle child of three kids. A princess of Camelot, she can't wait to rule the kingdom one day, even though neither her existence nor that of her siblings was ever supposed to be. When King Arthur fell in the battle of Auradon, the people of Camelot were intially outraged when the king's widowed queen courted one of his closest knights. And when Lancelot was set to become the new king, there was nearly a riot. It took years, frankly, to get the people on their side with much good faith and action following their promises. Twenty-something years later, Camelot had once again found it's stride and Glory began attending Auradon Prep to to prepare for her future as queen. Though Ben inviting the children of villains to Auradon doesn't sit well with her at first, Glory eventually warms up to the idea and even finds it interesting to watch her boyfriend Huppert get along with some of the new arrivals. Glory is the person you usually come for when you need advice.
Tumblr media
Huppert Dwarf, son of Happy the Dwarf, OC ship (FC: Kevin Alves)
Usually the ignored cousin among the Dwarf family, Huppert very quickly learned to make his own entertainment and find the people who see him for who he really is. Enter Glory of Camelot, the girl of his dreams, the one who makes him feel seen, the one who pulls him from his depression more often than not. She is his everything. So when she's worried about the VKs coming to Auradon, he too is at first. Then he starts hanging out with Jay and Carlos and is placed into Home Economics with Evie and he begins to think of them as friends.
Tumblr media
Cassia La Bouff, daughter Charlotte "Lottie" La Bouff, Chad Charming ship (FC: Meg Donnelly)
Cassia is not a princess, she knows this, she doesn't challenge this - she has her own ambitions in life. Ambitions she will not be swayed from. But life in New Orleans is getting harder to navigate. After an incident in school, Cassia can no longer stand to stay there. Even though she and Tabby Andrews hadn't seen each other in some years, a friendship lost to time and moving, Cassia confides in her old friend, prompting Tabby to ask her mother to put in a good word for her goddaughter. So when Cass begins to attend Auradon Prep after the debacle at King Ben's coronation, she expects to just blend in with the crowd. After all, who would care about the new girl after the villain kids nearly destroyed the entire country? But she ends up catching the eye of a prince and after getting to know him, Cassia finds herself feeling the same. But Chad Charming is not well-liked and Cassia is not about to throw away her new friendships and her future ambitions. Not for a guy.
Tumblr media
Enya Triton, daughter of Ariel and Eric, undetermined ship (FC: Abigail Cowen)
The younger sister of Melody, Enya Triton had always felt like she lived in her sister's shadow, even though Melody did her best to desuade her of that notion. But Enya was different than the rest of her family. Before being imprisoned on the Isle of the Lost, Ursula, from beyond the grave, placed a curse on Ariel (who at the time was pregnant with Enya, unbeknownst to her), which her daughter ended up absorbing in the womb. Enya was born with fire powers, which she doesn't use as they are wildly out of control. These powers also prevent her from going into the water for long periods of time. Enya has never seen her extended family and it breaks her heart. But she's not a quitter and she does her best to try and build up a tolerance to one day see her family again and get to do everything her mother and sister could.
Tumblr media
Emmeline Fitzherbert, daughter of Rapunzel and Eugene Fitzherbert, undetermined ship (FC: Gracie Lawrence)
Emmeline always knew she wasn't the most princess material. She took after her father, after all. But that didn't mean that she didn't want to rule Corona one day. After all, it was her right as first born. Still, the road there is tough and she has to fight a lot of opposition from royals and common folk alike. But Emmy has never let that stop her. She knows what she wants and even if she may be a bit kooky, she knows what her people need and she would never let them down.
Tumblr media
Paige Lapin, daughter of the White Rabbit, Red Hearts ship (FC: Jane Widdop)
Long after the Queen of Heart's occupation of Wonderland and the rabbit hole being sealed shut, Paige Lapin lives a mostly normal life with her family in their big hutch. Having been spared from the Queen's wrath due to his help, Percy opts to keep his children from going into town to keep them safe and happy. But Paige isn't happy. The middle child, often forgotten in her room, she uses a lot of her free time to burrow underground tunnels between her home and Wonderland. It is one of these nightly excursions, that she meets the Queen's daughter Red and the two go on to have a night of mischiev and fun. They would go on to repeat these nights for months, all while Percy is holed up in his room and working on a way to go back in time and keep the Queen of Hearts from terrorizing the people of Wonderland. When Red and her mother are invited to Auradon, Paige can't fathom being left in Wonderland without Red. So, true to her nature, Paige burrows a hole below the boarded up rabbit hole and follows the women to Auradon Prep, discovering many wonders along the way.

That's all I have for now but knowing me there will be thirty more sometime soon! I hope you like these, I love them already!

ok so now i have to write down the andrea (andrew) hair journey in my fem andreil au too:
- andrea keeps her hair fairly long and well maintained throughout her time in foster care bc generally parents were nicer to prettier kids. her hair was mostly straight, a little wavy, and white-blonde.
- in juvie, she realized that her hair could be used against her (people grabbing it, extra weight, etc) so she had it all buzzed off
- by the time she met ariana (aaron) her hair had grown out to a shaggy bob
- she starts growing it out and cutting her own hair after she gets out of juvie, and she actually puts effort into it because it feels like something about her body that she can control
- also she tends to cut her hair (and give herself curtain bangs) when she’s in a manic episode at 3am over a kitchen sink
- she stops cutting her hair when she’s medicated bc she doesn’t want to ruin it so she has nicky do it
- by palmetto, her hair is fairly long again (hitting the bottom of her shoulder blades) and she has soft layers and curtain bangs. it’s also a little wavier since her hair is shorter than it was when she was a kid.
- she straightens it when she’s pretending to be ariana bc ariana always wears her hair straight.
- she puts her hair into dutch braids or a low pony when she’s playing exy. she uses bobby pins and barrettes to keep her bangs out of her face (like a civilized person, nia)
- at edens she likes putting her hair into some kind of hairstyle even if it’s just some clips/barrettes or small front braids or something. she likes dressing up and differentiating her time at eden from her time at palmetto/home
- after drake she gives herself an impulsive wolf cut over the kitchen sink and it’s an absolute mess.
- at easthaven her hair grows by itself without any trims so it gets a little messy
-she gets renee to cut her hair again when she comes back and it grows back into her usual style
extra: nia loves to play with and braid her hair, but andrea gets mad if it gets too messy or tangled.

Mocky - Overtones for the Omniverse - from 2021, minimalism to psychedelic soul to neo-exotica, played by a small orchestra
Following up his score for the japanese Netflix Anime series “Carole & Tuesday”, Mocky returns to album mode with his new orchestral opus “Overtones For The Omniverse”. Just days before the first Covid lockdowns, Mocky brought a 16 person orchestra comprising of his usual who’s who of underground talent into LA’s Barefoot Studios (and into the same room where Stevie Wonder recorded “Songs in the Key of Life”) to record a pile of scores he had come up with during his previous year’s sabbatical in Portugal. The result is a stunning orchestral album recorded in 36 hours in one or two takes straight off the written page. Shunning the “possible perfection” of today's recording techniques, Mocky looked back as a way to find an alternate future. The album runs the gamut from Steve Reich infused minimalism overlaid with Dorothy Ashby style harp runs (“Overtures”) to atonal analogue synth sounds over Martin Denny style percussion (“Bora!”). There's a classic Mocky crooning number that gives a Jim Henson-esque take on the state of “Humans” and the album as a whole captures Mocky's skill of bringing together the joyful energy of a unique cast of LA collaborators.  Featuring: Randal Fisher / Flute, Vicky Farewell / Piano, Vocals, Harry Foster / Bass, Vibraphone, Tubular Bells, Vocals Joey Dosik / Organ and Glockenspiel, Vocals, Guillermo E. Brown aka Pw / Percussion, Vocals, Jhan Lee Aponte (TossTones) / Percussion, Vocals, Timpani, Paul Cartwright / Violin, Molly Rogers / Viola, Gabe Noel / Cello, Contrabass, Liza Wallace / Harp, Coco O. / Vocals, Mocky / Compositions, Drums, Vocals, Roland Sh-1000 O for the O Choir : Nia Andrews, Leslie Feist, Moses Sumney, Durand Bernarr, Eddie Chacon
