About - ICYMI Nike released a new running shoe the Epic React in the first half of 2018, their latest and greatest running midsole with the sole purpose of knocking adidas Ultraboost from the top spot. The comfort delivered by this new sole unit spawned lots of new silhouettes sporting ‘react’ units. 

Releasing -This new iteration due to release July 3rd in Australia is an Air Max 720 x React aptly called ‘Air Max 720 React’ and if we’re being totally honest, it’s one of the few pairs of Nike GR releases that has my wallet shaking in anticipation. This colourway in particular has got me excited because these colours just aren’t for everyone. Which means you won’t see every 14 year old with a job at maccas wearing them (que AF1′s). 

Fit - full discloser, my right foot is WIDE. I am widest across the knuckle of my feet and as such I STRUGGLE to find a pair of Nikes that fit me comfortably. The react sole unit is worth the hype it is comfort +++ but I just don’t find it as supportive as an Ultraboost, it’s almost too squishy? The addition on the bubble of this shoe adds the support I have felt so lacking in a react only sole HOWEVER, I found the front of my foot was rolling around and OFF the insole whilst my heel was stable....it was an unsettling feeling. Weather the width of my foot was the factor I would have to wear them to tell for sure but the insole felt so narrow under my toes they were falling off or if it were the combo of the hard and soft sole but I wasn’t feeling the fit.

How to wear - This colourway in particular is the best I have seen releasing this drop and to be honest, if you’re going to wear some Jurassic Park type hybrid shoes, you might as well make it known. Being that the ass on these is chunky I would stick to pants that are skinny at the ankle or socks that show off the ankle otherwise the size might overwhelm and unbalance the outfit. They used grey in this advert......I’d be sticking to black and letting my shoes do the talking and then try to add back a colour on the shoe in the form of an accessory be it . a belt, hair clip, jewellery or even an undershirt if it’s winter and you can layer. Ie. yellow long sleeve under a baggy tshirt over some black tights or have you got a ribbon you could tie in your hair or to you bag for the day. Find a way to work the colour in, like you just luckily threw on something that matched your shoes today. 

Verdict -  Do it, these are so sick. Not every Tom, Dick and his soccer mum will be wearing them and they will make any outfit a head turner. A conscious, trendy shopper will elevate these to an insta worthy look with a little bit of thought. Make sure you have the clothes to pair it back with in your wardrobe before you pick them up or you’ll forever try them on in the morning and put them back into the closet.

Where to buy - Releasing July 3rd in Australia at JD Sports (their photo was used), HypeDC and that makes me think Nike but I haven’t seen any advertising yet. HOWEVER, regardless of the push via social media, particularly of this colourway, I have worked in footwear long enough to know these will hit the sale rack for the same simple reason I love them, they’re just not for everyone (you won’t believe the amount of plain white sneakers I’ve sold in my career). Sure they will get tried on lots but people will decide they aren’t brave enough for those colours and back they will go. SO if you wanna be a trail blazer and get the newest style the second it drops, you can or if like me you’re a poor uni student and can and will wait for the right shoe to hit the sale rack to pick up, give it a couple of months and they’re yours.
