Spent most of my ridiculously short night last night involved in an extremely detailed dream where I was a detective solving a murder in ancient Rome? All the characters were named and fairly accurately too? The only one I still remember was Chrysippus, the victim, who I spent most of the dream investigating. The vic had been part of a casual poetry reading/writing club who had all pitched in to hire me and which included his boyfriend, the major motivator in my having been asked to investigate, but there was enough competition and tension within the group that I was internally including them all in my list of potential suspects. I spent most of the dream trying to form an impression of the victim by talking with the poetry club members, and trying to establish his movements on the day he'd died by wandering through an imaginary ancient city (including through a suspiciously modern-looking flower district) but I had unfortunately not made a whole lot of progress on the case by the time I woke up.
#the victim and his bf both had greek names#I think the rest were all roman and they were all older than them too#most of the club members were vaguely suspicious but I didn't have a strong feeling about anyone#hilariously I have no idea how the victim died and idk if that was ever actually established in the dream even#noctibabble

Was having another very intense but fairly nonsensical dream last night and woke up with the last thing I'd said/thought in the dream still clear in my head and was like "I have got to write this down before I forget" and I'm so glad I did because this is it
#I do think the connection my brain was drawing was not actually to the word sound#but to the imagery of these fuckers always being surrounded by like glowing colored spheres#which I think I interpreted as the bubbles in bubble tea (spec. I remember thinking of popping bubbles)#the similarity between boba and boohbah is just icing on the cake really#NO idea what the framework this thought process fit into was tho 🤣#also it's rare enough that I think actual words in a dream so THIS being the concept I bothered doing that for...#noctibabble

Extra wild considering it's Green Knight day but woke up this morning from a dream where I had to take a shared shower with Dev Patel
#it was Something#if I had less fraternal feelings for dev patel it would have been even worse so thank God for that#idk what else was happening in the dream except a vague recollection of some kind of mr and mrs smith situation going on#noctibabble

woke up in a cold sweat going "Wait do niece and nephew start with an 'n' bc they're like 'nuncle??' Were they 'mine Iece' and 'mine Ephew' once??" with increasing horror
Pleased to inform you they've always started with a n, we can all go back to our lives now
#best part is this thought was coming up#unanswered of course#while dream-me was supposedly somehow illegally downloading soaps sold by some influencer (I WOULD download an overpriced soap if possible)#and “back in the saddle soon” by jeff meegan was looping as background music#and I woke up with this burning question literally 4 hours before my alarm was meant to go off so now I have to try to get back to sleep#noctibabble

last time I took valerian I was out for almost 24 hours straight. Tried a half pill tonight bc melatonin has been useless lately-- woke up after 6 hours 😑
hilariously I woke up from a charming dream where the crochet stitch I learned for my newest blanket somehow was not working suddenly and I got a terrible grade on my paper. Woke up like "that paper wasn't even due till today, there is no way he's graded it" and then finished a row of crochet which surprise! went fine
#now I have to try to get back to sleep#I wanted to go to tutoring this morning but may not be able to manage since I'd have to be up for it in like an hour and a half#the crochet is for a blanket I'm making my mom for her birthday#which frankly is more work than she really deserves but I would be making blankets anyway#but I'm trying a new super soft beautiful yarn in her fave color and a new delicate lacy looking stitch#and can already tell it's going to turn out gorgeous#noctibabble

Just remembered the other day I had a dream they randomly were making a sequel to Plunkett & Macleane of all things, it was set quite a long time after the original and Johnny Miller and Liv Tyler's characters were married and living respectably and Robert Carlyle was officially in business but was doing illegal shit on the side and ended up getting his friends caught up in it, and beyond whether that made any fucking sense with the ending of the first movie (it's been too long since I saw it for me to be sure) I was pissed because neither Johnny Miller or Liv Tyler were reprising their roles and their replacements did not have nearly enough charm or charisma to fill in for them and that also meant we'd miss out on seeing current-age Liv Tyler being radiant in 18th century costume again and I was in the middle of being mad about it when I woke up.

I had several complicated dreams last night, but in one I discovered this really cool artist who had this very interesting, flat, somewhat cartoony, kind of folk-art-does-medieval style or like Mexican folk art and Russian enamel box art, with a lot of very dark and bright color contrasts and detailed nature scenes, and they liked to do art of their oc who was a sort of nun-looking witch out in the woods with her familiars foraging for potion ingredients and stuff and they were so intricate and enchanting, and in another I was watching a movie where the heroine went through all kinds of troubles and was bolstered by these periodic visions where she was visited by a sort of eternal divine feminine, played by Monica Bellucci (always in this hazy sort of mirage-looking focus) who'd comfort her and give her advice, each time appearing as another aspect/divinity, so once she was Mary, and another time Isis, and one time a Hindu goddess (Saraswati I think), and probably more I don't remember but it was such a cool idea and I was so into both the art and the movie and So Fucking Annoyed when I woke up and realized it was just a dream!!

Had a full on three-part gothic horror thing happening in my dream last night, with a very complicated plot that I don't recall much of but where with each installment the tone got darker and went from mid-level gothic at the start to outright horror by the last installment. It was a vaguely 1800s setting though I don't remember anything to identify actual period, and mostly focused on a sinister family and their large house; Miranda Richardson was the mom (and I remember thinking what a great choice that was), there were three young sons from like mid-twenties to late teens, all in the sort of Johnny Flynn blonde and curly model, Deva Cassel was like the child of a cousin or family friend who was staying with them temporarily and getting increasingly menaced the longer she was there, son 2 had an unrequited interest in her that got increasingly toxic which I think was much of the focus of the first part, son 1 was doing secret unethical medical experiments with his dad or something, son 3 was the only sort of normal one, I remember it getting crazy by the end but no specifics...

Was expounding on the Pueblo Revolt last night in my dream, with particular emphasis on how it, along with Spanish colonialism, had created a previously non-existent unified Pueblo identity and how that identity had further coalesced around new settlements with mixed populations engaging in regional trade as well as the implementation of the katsina cult. Also remember not being able to recall Po'pay's name during all this and being suitably annoyed about it. Now, why I was giving a college-level lecture on this in my sleep?? Idk.

Dreamed an entire "alternate cut" of Lair of the White Worm last night? It was very streamlined and cut out a lot of establishing scenes and most of Peter Capaldi's early scenes, as well as the entirety of the bagpipe fight (sacrilege!) but included more views of elaborate set designs that didnt make it into the normal cut, and a bunch of bite victims dissolving into goo which got fed to the worm as a beverage instead.
