Random Dialtown Society Headcanons

a handful of decades ago there was a big boom in parents who saw mobile phones as the future giving their kids heads of things like mobile phones and computers. this fizzled out as mobile phones and computers became integrated as everyday objects and became generally agreed upon to be kind of hard to actually live with. so there's an entire generation of sad millennials whose parents had both the money and ambition to give their kids these heads - this is how we get randy. presently, mobile phone heads often carry the stereotype of a hipster at best and a depressed young neet at worst

faux-retro phones also have a hipstery connotation, and specifically the idea that your parents were trying too hard. heads like these are the equivalent of naming your kid something like Oakleigh (joke courtesy of friend fig)

"apple head" as a phrase means the opposite of what it does in real life - flat and small, as in an apple product

smartphone heads carry the connotation of a soulless influencer, youtube family channels and their kids with cocomelon on their smartphone heads are the topic of many a video essay by pretentious blackberryheads about the downfall of society

there are some batshit insane parents out there like Oh my beautiful baby cares not for societal norms which is why i have given them a tuba head and that poor person is just baby tubahead forever

having a screen on your head a decade ago carried the connotation that you were smart and well-read - think our society's equivalent of glasses - now, though, they tend to be associated with vapidness/dumbness with the connotation that you need to see things on a screen to understand them

the less common/higher society equivalent to mobile phones to phoneheads is computers for typewriters. furthermore the act of having a keyboard is perceived as somewhat feminine and if you dig deeper there are a subset of individuals who will call you gay if your head has buttons on it

the difference between an incel and a chad is a few millimeters of bone (this is about the height of your rotary phonehead)

teen protagonists in movies, especially teen dramas, tend have mobile phone and laptop heads so you know they’re immature and out of touch with the values of their parents. This is almost always a visual shorthand thing and despite being a known stereotype no attention is ever drawn to the fact the parents would have chosen to give them those heads

typewriters were not gendered until after the dialup - think the equivalent of pink not being seen as a girly color until recently

there exist tech giant corporations in the dialtown universe who co-opt the story of callum crown to justify changing their heads to their new products as advertisement. whether or not this is a moral thing to do always becomes a topic of discussion all over the internet for like a month and then is promptly forgotten about, and then the next month they're back to having normal heads

having the same head as an animal is basically telling the world either you're a furry or your parents really wanted you to be a furry. it's a common shorthand for animal motifs in fiction to the point where it's seen as on-the-nose

there are semifrequent controversies about celebrities giving their children gimmicky objectheads

having toy heads ie little billy is relatively common in children, having them as an adult, depending on the crowd, can make you come off as either fun and whimsical or somewhat stunted

hospitals come stocked with very basic objecthead shells for sudden deliveries

in art, objectheads drawn with facial features is a relatively common thing in works for very small children but is seen as deeply uncanny in anything more

collecting phones/typewriters/other objects is seen as somewhat macabre or shlocky but not an outright red flag. however there have been scandals that come from people customizing them to be the size of human heads

ok question(s); what is dialtown, how does it relate to dsaf, and is dsaf a fnaf thing (guy who only knows fnaf seeing the same freddy)

OKAY SO in order

1. dialtown is a dating sim visual novel set in a world of objectheads (yes, there is a reason they're objectheads, it isn't just a stylistic choice). it's comedic with fantastic characters and a lot of depth. you play as a cryptid trying to find a date for valentine's day so you can use the two-for-one deal at the local funfair to get in and lay eggs in a moist pit. it's got a strong unique visual style, great writing, lovely music, and it's my favorite thing right now and has been for the last half-a-year-and-change. (it's also only 8$ on steam and has a free demo)

here's the protag and 3/4 of the main datables. the 4th one is best discovered for yourself.

2. dayshift at freddy's/dsaf is a series of 3 fnaf fangames made by the same fellow who made dialtown, released 2016-2018. i played the dsaf games recently (without having played fnaf.. the relation to fnaf is more of a framing device than anything else, it didn't hamper my understanding not knowing anything about actual freddys) and thought they were quite good. they can be seen as something of a precursor to dialtown, and are where some of its concepts (chief among them, phone-headed people) originated, and a good chunk of dialtown characters are re-used from dsaf. the two aren't related in a direct, in-universe way, they're entirely separate universes, and dialtown doesn't have anything to do with fnaf.

The Somethings - Chapter 1 Part 1

Original Objecthead Story

In the middle of the desert, on top of a hoodoo, was a sandstone pedestal that proudly held the secluded city of the Frontier. The civilians were a city of Things, but a not so modest group of them that enjoyed being useful as much as possible. There were other groups of Things on the neighboring mesa, sure, but the Things of the Frontier were far more advanced. So that made them more interesting and important. The Things of the Frontier say their success comes from two main factors: 

- They traded with outsiders but never ever let any in! 

Which meant:

- Their simple social scale! You’re either Nothing or you’re Something! If you were broken and useless, you were considered a Nothing. If you were the best in your job field, you’d become Something! 

 Technically there were a myriad of other subclasses but being Something was all the rage. Everything in the Frontier looked up to the Somethings and wanted to be a Something. Why wouldn’t you want to be the best? Respect? Glamour? The best pick of the fancy houses? Isn’t your whole life meant to revolve around accomplishment?

Recently, however, the Citizens weren’t so sure anymore. One of their Somethings had gone missing! The Frontier was secluded and they were important! How could they just vanish? If a Thing as important as a Something could go missing with no notice, what could happen to them as a lesser Thing?

“Never in the history of the Frontier has everything come together like this before!” rang the radio host’s voice throughout the Frontier. He would’ve been pleased to hear himself through all the open windows and doors. All on his channel. “I, Quincy the Something of Broadcasting, - who is always on your side- is at your service to tell you the latest about the missing case we call the ‘Derby Disappearance’ about that new hire- Derby H. Bowler! It seems, once again, that I have no news for you! Our leader, Frederick Fedora, ain’t said peep and let me tell you, this is getting rough for everything here in the Frontier!”

No news today once more. Things of all classes were gathered around the fountain in the courtyard of the Somethings headquarters. It was a grand, giant building in the center of town that was surrounded by the finest sandstone on the pedestal. It was ornately carved with the history of the Frontier and metal plates signed with previous leaders, Somethings, and other outstanding Things of Frontier history.

Things that were broken, Things that were elaborately decorated, Things that were still dirty from work - They were all here. All except the Somethings and their Leader who holed himself away.

A higher class Thing who was the shape of a broom, twirled their fancy parasol and sniffed judgmentally. “Hmf! If a Something goes missing does their leader make a sound? I think not.” scoffed Broomington. “I mean really? What’s the point of going through all that work if you’re not guaranteed security!”

“That’s because our hero, Frederick Fedora, is a joke! Who'da thunk that old relic of a hero would cower now?” said the Strangely Strong Spork. He flexed his biceps in anger.

“It’s because Derby was a Nothing!” spat Hammy the Hammer. “REMEMBER. Those nepotistic wash rags wanted only their friends apart of their little group-”

“I take offense to that.” said Washragginton. 

She continued. “Now they’re gone! POOF! It’s no coincidence. The higher ups don’t want anything lower than them to be Something.” 

“Whaddya mean? They were another one of Frederick’s ‘heroic and charitable’ ideas to make the Frontier a ‘better’ place!” said the Strangely Strong Spork. His triceps shivered down to his quads. “We didn’t want that Raptor or that criminal Farthing! He’s trying to change up our whole system!”

“He even let them work for the Somethings, despite our protests.” huffed Broomington. “Is Frederick even listening to us?!”

this might be too specific so feel free to ignore this but, things to do if your f/o is a phonehead? (or objecthead in general).

yes!! I'll do a general objecthead just so it's more applicable to others :)

look into some safe cleaners you could use to clean the object that their head is! I mentioned in another post but certain metals and things can only be cleaned with certain types of soaps.

speaking of, pick out something they would like! some things can be cleaned with just normal dawn dish soap, which is scented! what scents do they like? what scents do they hate?

come up with some ideas of what they would look like or they were a different kind of the same object. for example, a phone head, but what if it was a cellphone? or a flip phone?

if they're electronic, look into what their wires and things would look like! or, learn how to do simple fixes on the interior of their object.

to add to that, if they're electronic, make a list of things for them to avoid so they won't mess up their circuitry! showers, thunderstorms (bc that can cause issues in some devices), high frequency areas so they don't cut in and out

(a more phone specific one) but if they can, what ringtone do they have? if they can't, make a playlist of ringtones they would love to have!

make a list of objects they would rather be than what they are, or, make a list of different types they'd want to be (like the telephone cellphone example)

make a collage of the object they are!

make a list of facial features they would want to have if they had a normal human face.

do they let you put little stickers on them? if they do, what kinda stickers do they prefer?

FUN QUESTION. On art fight, what types of characters catch your eye? Do you have a system for who to draw first?

i usually go for simpler designs, but i do like to occasionally challenge myself and draw a robot or two (and i love drawing them so much, it’s just haaaard </3). and speaking of, robots are very much something that catches my eye—just like humanoids, vampires, ghosts, zombies, mermaids, objectheads… Pretty much just any design trope that i’m a fan of i will probably want to draw!! i’ll go for human characters too, sure, but i’d leave them for last, and only really draw them if i had no other choice or if the character is like a monster disguising as a human. i also like drawing fancharacters :) but yea, basically anything that is more interesting than a normal human is bound to catch my eye!

my system is that i look through my bookmarks, try to see if i want to draw any of the characters that have been there since last year (or. for years.), if i do then i draw those, if i don’t then i go looking for more characters! sometimes i even use the random character thing. after i decide that i’ve drawn everyone i’ve wanted to draw this year, i start attacking my friends :) leaving the best for last heheh

Founded by Richard Smith and his co-founder Frederick Clay.

He carefully reviewed the compelling research on Artificial Intelligence.

Artificial Intelligence TV, which was later named AITV and shortened to the nickname Vee.

Aitv was the first of its type, and it became a huge success, managing to artificially mimic human nature.

The founders continued to develop an additional four prototype members, enhancing their team's capabilities and potential.

Cringetober, Day 16: Objecthead

Currently visiting family and might not be able to finish all the other days but still determined to do my best! Here's me and The Friz as the Sun and Earth!

...before he could get any closer, a green and purple portal appeared behind Orange Juice, causing him to fall through it. It then suddenly closed as it opened, causing Mario to stab his knife into the solid ground, causing it to shatter.

Awww and that was one of his best knives too. And he didn't get to kill Orange Juice after all. He pouted for a second before moving on, excited to finally get to be with Mr Puzzles once and for all.

The next day he awoke earlier than usual, before his loud two trucks alarm started playing, making his ears bleed and causing him to smash it into pieces. Oh well!

He started to get ready for the day, putting on his high school girl uniform, not brushing his teeth and grabbing a glass of store-bought orange juice that was not out of date by a decade at all.

He said goodbye to his brother who was sick today sadly and went off to school, excited for what the day could bring.

Arriving at the gates, he rushed over to see his friends before a tall figure caught his eye, a very handsome and sexy and pathetic figure.

Next to an ugly ugly ugly piece of trash.

"Oh Vox, you truly know me so well!" The pathetic man clung onto the ugly TV head lovingly.

ANOTHER RIVAL? Mario's face went red with anger. How dare this ugly man even come near his true love. He should be disgusted by his own face!

Storming off into the school, ignoring his friends because he was so angry, he slammed his locker open and shoved his locker inside.

Walking towards his next lesson, still in a fit of rage, he passed the school swimming pool and a thought popped into his head as he stopped to look.

A television's weakness was water, right?

In a mushroom forest far far away, a lone portal appears as if by magic. Almost instantly, an object-headed teenager falls out, unangelically and high on adrenaline.

He falls on his back, which is lucky for him as what would be his cheek is cracked, his orange-like blood being exposed to the elements. His breathing is quick and uneven, as most would be if they were nearly murdered.

The events before enfolding in his head as he tries to calm himself. He was alive. He didn't die. At least, he thought he didn't.

"Are you lost, dear?" An older soft voice asked above him as he lifted his head from his chest, his hands still placed on his head.

She was an older woman, probably in her 40s but looked well for her age. Her blonde hair was long and jellyfish-like with only a few hints of grey. She wore a large mushroom hat with threats hanging down from it and a mushroom poncho. Underneath was a white flowy dress and a pair of red boots.

He tried to speak but struggled as his adrenaline slowly wore off and a sharp pain tingled throughout his body.

She slowly walked towards him and kneeled, taking a med kit from one of her pockets.

"You poor thing... don't worry I'll save you." She whispered softly, as a mother would to a child, slowly taking care of all the wounds the objecthead had.

Soon, she was finished and was packing up her med kit.

"Do you have anywhere to stay in the meantime? Your injuries though not severe, need time to heal. We are quite far away from most civilization though..." She asked as if knowing his next answer.

"No..." He finally spoke, his voice raspy and dry.

"Well you are in luck my dear, I have a small camp nearby. Only a couple of people so far so it isn't that crowded" She smiled, with a hint of sinisteriness that he didn't pick up on.

"Thank you so much, I don't know how to repay you.." He said, grateful that he had met her.

"No need, I just want to help people and you already have done that for me."

She lifted him up slowly, careful not to harm him as much as he already was. They then started walking to the camp, his body being kept upright by her.

"I'm so sorry but I asked for your name?" Orange Juice asked

"My name is Preach, dear."
