Let Sophie be Sophie
I need to put this to words because it’s all over my favorite tags. But first, an obligatory Benedict gif because I can’t wait for him to lead S4.
Tumblr media
First to clear things up: Benedict is not bi. He’s pansexual. Even Luke T. said that in his interview. Personally, it fits his vibe. He just attracts on people’s vibes. I do find the throuple scene to be tastefully done. In the end, it was all about him exploring his pleasures with two: one he’s familiar with and one he’s intrigued with. Sadly, the editing made it look like they had a weekend screwfest when it all happened in one night.
But this post isn’t about the threesome and whatever Benedict wants to label himself after this. This is about Sophie and how people already demanding to switch Sophie into a man or MTF trans. Sophie’s gender is a major point of her storyline. She’s a bastard (whether she’s an Earl’s bastard or not remains to be seen) and a maid. She doesn’t want to repeat her mother’s mistake of bringing another bastard child into the world and suffer the same she did. If you have a ween, you have more power than one with a vagina back in the day, even if you’re a bastard. So it’s not going to work.
In addition, Sophie is probably the emotionally strongest of the Bridgerton wives. This woman had hard life and was handed nothing but scraps. But she never lost her soul and steadfast values when the world turned against her. With due respect to Kate and Penelope (and Lucy if we ever get to Greg’s season), Sophie is tough as nails. I want to see a strong street smart female go head to head with the ā€œcommunity bicycleā€, especially a certain offer comes to play.
Most of all, people forget that sodomy was a crime in England at the time. Yeah you can be discreet about it, but for it to be a happy ending, you can’t go and hide in the shadows. Even if you move to the countryside, you would be caught. And before people throw in the Frannie/Michaela comparison, it’s easier for women to get away with it as they can say they are friends. Plus Frannie will be a widow by then. While I feel for those who love Franchael, I’ve come to accept it. I hope they do this with care.
Now I saw someone thinking of a Mulan plot of crossdressing. I was thinking along the lines of Twelfth Night or As You Like It (if we’re going with the Shakespeare theme). But I doubt Shondaland will pull it off with care and without disrespecting trans actors if they go there.
Benedict’s arc is about being free right now but he’s also internally and emotionally set adrift. It’s the love of and for Sophie that will be his anchor. The love of a bastard daughter turned maid who saved him from illness after he saved her almost rape by her last employer’s son is going to open his heart that not even all the orgies and threesomes can compete with.
So yeah… let Sophie Beckett be Sophie Beckett. I don’t care which race or ethnicity. Just let her be a cis female.

Since this seems to be a topic that people have a bit of varying takes on, in your opinion, what would be a good character arc for Amy in the comicsverse? Like, the end point of her entire arc. Could be Archie or IDW, or just in general.
This is a tricky question to answer because, as a character, Amy has been pulled in dozens of different directions. She's been a damsel in distress, an idealistic hero, a fangirl, a borderline stalker, the obligatory female voice of reason who acts like the boys' mother like in every gamer webcomic, a crossbow-wielding adventurer, the co-leader of a rebel army, and more. There are some key ideas you can pick up on with Sega's take on the character - her fondness for Sonic, her compassion, her occasional temper, her willingness to leap into danger without thinking first, etc. - but she's often just whatever the writers need her to be as the Token Girl
In general, it's also difficult to give the Sega characters "endpoints" because like... they're intended to be relatively static characters who don't grow, so they can easily be slotted into new stories until the end of time. And then you look at Shadow, a character who DID have a clear character arc, and now it's over and they have no idea what to do with him
Anyway, I think first and foremost I would want to see Amy get over her crush on Sonic so that she can be better defined as her own character. He's never ever going to return her affections because it's not a romance-heavy series, so let her move on. Of course, the last decade of Sonic media has already majorly downplayed her crush, so that's not quite as urgent these days. I also just wanna see her get played up as a hotheaded fighter more. It's fun to see Amy get pissed off and go nuts with her hammer. (And she should be playable in the games again.) Beyond that, I don't really know
I'd say the IDW comics have mostly treated Amy well. She's a very prominent character (the only heroes with more appearances are Sonic and Tails), she accepts that Sonic isn't interested but still just kinda likes him casually without getting aggressive about it, she's gotten some really fun fights, and her compassion has gotten to shine through. I think it just took a bit long to ween her off of her role as a leader from Forces, which was never a good fit for her, but she's moved past that now post-Metal Virus. As of Evan's run I think she's pretty spot on. I'm not really sure if I'd change anything in particular. It's the games that I want to return to what's fun about her as a character

I’m reblogging this with the same comment I did three years ago (new comments in asterisks* bc it still stands and I hate this post:Ā
It was incredibly rare for women to be sculpted completely in the nude, besides love or fertility goddesses like Aphrodite or Venus *counterparts to one another*. Usually, due to modesty (yes, even the Greeks had some), female forms would wear regular garb. Artemis, Hera, and Demeter were portrayed fully clothed in just about any artwork.
If you ever see a female nude statue that’s a not a fertility goddess, it’s a far more modern piece of artwork. This admittedly was sexist in its own special, opposite way, because women were essentially forced to hide their bodies and stay inside to avoid violence while men ran the Olympics naked *because nudity was celebration of the human form, considered sacred*. In the meantime, Artemis’ bro Apollo loved showing off his teeny ween *because small dicks were a sign of noble chastity. Basically, anti-boners*.
Also, most of those female nudes weren’t young, slender forms. Check out Venus of Willendorf, the first image that’s thrown into your face when you take an obligatory Art History course. *She might have actually been a self-portrait!*
Big hips and breasts *in pre-modern cultures, and still many today* were simply symbols of childbearing. *In Renaissance art, some women are depicted with a single breast pulled out of their clothing, usually just to denote that they were a woman*. The nudity was basically a symbol of their sex, not sexuality. Besides, if the Ancients were just creating a bunch of porn, I think they’d switch to an easier medium than chiseling granite. Like, say, doodling some dicks into the dirt with a stick. That’s how you found brothels back in the day *Catholics later tried to remove these ā€œlewdā€ images off of ancient roads*.
However, more recently, Artemis has been depicted like this:
Tumblr media
*The male gaze is not exactly a new invention, but its prevalence in artwork has become far more common in the last half century. If you’re going to criticize artwork for its objectification, look upon yourself and your peers before pretending it’s an ancient art issue.*

obligatory "meet the blogger" first post
Hello! I won’t be sharing my personal information on here like my name and photos of myself; but what I can tell you is I live in Massachusetts, I am nearing my mid-20s, female, and I work in the medical field. I’ve been struggling with mental illness for most of my life, and being prescribed different medications made it a living hell. So back in the summer of 2016 I decided to ween myself off all of my meds shortly after I got my medical marijuana card to try to find my own way of maintaining my mental health.
[I’ll explain the process of obtaining my medical marijuana card in another post.]
Unfortunately, I’m starting this blog a bit late at 7 months since I started this, but better late than never I guess! I’ve noticed a significant change in myself, my moods and my behaviors in the past 7 months. My therapist, my family, partner, and close friends have all noticed a remarkable difference. Over the past year I’ve seen more research on medical marijuana and it’s effects on mental health as well. It’s very reassuring, especially where I was feeling so hopeless about my future with my mental health, every time my psychiatrist would change my meds it got to a point where I would just cry because all I could focus on was how bleak the future looked to me. But with more and more research being conducted, and with things looking up for me due to my decision to take control, the future looks a bit more promising!
