I'm doing integrated media. I'm really scared because I'm really introverted and awkward and I've heard its really interactive which I love but its hard when you're in a room full of strangers :-(

Week 3

For week 3, I worked on a type-based design I created in Illustrator, and I brought it to life and gave it dimensions using transparent paper and layering letters on every page.

I wrote the definition of Xenolalia on the composition along with the typography of the word in 20 scripts and more than 30 languages. Then, I divided random letters of the definition into 20 pages with a script typography on every page to create a form of abstraction made from disarrangement along with confusion. All this feeling of confusion is created for the audience while they’re going through every page and trying to figure out what is written. There is basically a new point of view to the definition of Xenolalia. You can see the letters, and they’re familiar to you, but you feel like you don’t know what’s going on and how you can read these letters but not fully knowing the text or where it is even coming from; which will essentially be solved in the end when all of the pages come on top of each other to form the paragraph.

The same thing is happening at the bottom of the page but in an opposite format. These 20 scripts I have there are the most spoken/written scripts, so 90% of the people would know at least one of them. While the audience is exploring/experiencing this transparent booklet, they might come across one or more scripts that they know, and it makes science to them. Well, that’s the second reflection of this word here. They basically would have an AHA moment and feel like they have a skill that someone else who’s next to them might not have. Then the audience might ask themselves: how did I learn this language (their first language). So that’s a third point of this booklet: first language is a form of Xenolalia. We don’t remember when or how we got acquainted and gained the knowledge and ability to speak, read or write our first language.

This experience ends with all the pages coming on top of each other and creating this form of abstract typography-based structure, which has the fourth reflection of this word. The viewers can recognize some letters or forms based on their knowledge of the language, but they don’t know how or what is even written there.

My first assignment when I started going to OCAD! It was for my Colour and 2D Design class, we developed a colour palette from a photo and used it to create a pattern design. ☁️☀️☁️

The photo I used was of a sunrise so I decided to use cloud and sun motifs. I tried my best, I was still getting the hang of painting 😅

Almost done my university portfolio :-), I applied for integrated media, scared as shit. Its due in 2 days and I keep trying to re-analyze it and make sure its perfect (it will never be lol). Hopefully I get in :-D
