Colin headcanons?

WELL! Colin is a character I've always been fond of, no more or less than most others. It's only recently clicked in my mind how much potential he has as a developed, returning character.

I always preferred Colin eventually straying away from his Abuse persona. Like the transformation was physically destructive, and now he has to take heart medication for the resulting damage caused.

The way that Batman has connections in Gotham, I think Colin would fit the role perfectly for Robin. A street informant that you occasional cross paths with. I think his time in foster care radicalised him, and being a Gotham boy though and through, he gives back to the community as a social worker, and volunteering for homeless shelters-- it's just coincidentally through that, he gets a lot of good intel.

Colin strikes me as a sports guy for some reason. More specifically an ice-hockey guy. He religiously follows the NHL (also football and baseball to lesser extent) and plays for a local team regularly. If Damian and Colin still kept in touch, Colin would be gifted season passes every year for his birthday/Christmas.

A more recent headcanon I have for him now is kind of a ret-con where Colin would be the one to introduce Damian to manga-- he already loves superheros, he fits the demographic, and Damian finding out about manga through him is at least SOME kind of explanation, compared to the canon reason 😪... However, where I can see Colin being really into all the shonen hits like Dragon Ball and Naruto, he succeeded in getting his friend invested, but it turns out Damian is much more interested in "Hana-chan's Shoujo Slice of Life Romance Adventures of the Heart".

I think... that's it! I completely acknowledge that this idea of Colin is all made up and far beyond what is present in the comics. But if he could come back, I think it would feel very natural! And I think Damian could do with a grounded, ordinary friend that keeps him in check.

favorite damian panel?

Ahhh I hate picking "favourite" anythings hahaha! A few iconic scenes filtered through my mind, but here's the one that immediately stuck out at first thought.

Batman and Robin (2011) #17

An oldie, but a goodie! Damian comparing his shoe size to Bruce's... I remember Tomasi saying he based this interaction off something he observed his own kid doing. It's very cute, and very childish (in a sincere and humanising way).

Other stand outs from the top of my head are Damian, having fallen down a chasm in the Batcave, and being confronted with the skull of the bat he killed several issues before, and the scene where Maya embraces Damian ("You are forgiven...").

I can't find it (I'm on mobile 😭) but ALSO one very small panel in an earlier B&R (2011) where Robin is fighting off some goons, Batman eventually shows up and Robin turns around like "Batman! 🤩✨" (I'm not explaining it very well but I'll update this post later if I can remember to find it).

Yes, she is so cute! I just love the idea of animals immediately taking a liking to Damian, he really is a natural... Also the fact that he immediately decides he is going to keep it.

Deadass I have been non-committally thinking about what he might call her. I'm definitely more fond of Damian giving his pets well meaning and dignified names (Bat-Cow being an exception), so Shakespeare comes back to mind!

I haven't read the issue in-context yet, but right now I'm thinking maybeeee "Mia the Monkey"-- named after Hermia from A Midsummer's Night Dream, based on the virtue of a character who stands up against her oppressors, and earns their freedom.

Is it overkill? Probably. But maybe Damian would be that extra, too.

Hahaha I feel like my favouritism towards Damian has completely skewed my idea of what reasonably counts for an answer.

Outside of the batfam, but still within the Gotham bubble, I do love Harvey Dent/Two-Face. For an A-rank rogue, I feel he is insanely underrated. Also love everyone's favourite work wife, Jim Gordon!

Outside of the bubble, of course I do love Superman and Wonder Woman. Honourable mentions also include Martian Manhunter and Blue Beetle (Jamie Reyes)!
