cause this is one of the absolutely most botched translation choices i cant not complain about it
ive seen people talking about and screeeshots where yuugami/blackquill calls people the outdated japanese honourific 'dono'. and is also inexplicably british, or at least uses words americans dont
Tumblr media
this is how he addresses people by name. by taking one character from their name and using that and 'character', it doesnt translate into english, but like, 'character for mud', or something. (chinese derived character to be clear)
he doesnt use any honourific, this is rude and disprespectful
Tumblr media
to say 'you', he uses 'ommesan', which is archaic/has old fashioned connotations. its fairly rude/supeiorier, although the 'san' makes it politer. but its not a really polite way to refer to people
hes also used another word for 'you', 'temee', which is particularly rude and famous for only being used in anime (gyakusai characters dont always talk realisticly, but you dont see this)
Tumblr media
as for 'dono' (殿), its historical/archaic and formal. it used to be used used for important people but apparently came to be used more towards inferiors like omae, but can also be polite when used in business towards people of equal status. anyway it has a connotation of samurais/anime/otakus/etc now. yugami never actually used this in canon as far as ive seen
he does speak archaicly/old fashionedly in general. ive seen people guess the translaters made him 'british', to try to show him using old fahioned language
trying to make the characters american was pathetic enough but this is even less understandable. for a start, from the screenshots ive seen the reasons he was 'british' was cause he said stuff like 'bloody' and 'bloke'. hardly the formal archaic language theyre going for, is it
without trying to assign irrelevent nationalities, they could easily have made him talk like a character from a high fantasy novel or something, making him sound like a nerd with the archaic language that isnt used normally now, that wouldve shown that much better without adding random honourifics and being inconstent. his character references historical japan specifically, but you shouldnt have made them american in the first place, it ruins it loads of places
cause he does used some old fashioned/nerd language and talk about swords/etc, and you can argue that omeesan for 'you' was swapped out with the 'dono' honourific. you get the samurais/archaic/etc, but it loses most of the nuance of it, especially with how he addresses people pretty rudely. most people who are playing are going to think 'dono' is meant to be really polite
remember, the audience of this 'localisation' is americans whove never heard of other countries so much they dont even know what ramen or curry is. arent you meant to be getting rid of any mention of japan cause it might be alieniation, or confuse them. but it seems, when they thought of an even worse way to ruin it they just couldnt help themselves

So the French adaptation if Dungeon Meshi opted for a slightly flowery, old-fahioned language and it's delightful !

"It's kinda like newspaper"
We find them say
"Except if it was digital and nit about curent events"
"What is in it then?"
"Oh well, you know. Some good old fahioned commentary and loads of pictures. Moving ones too!"
They take a small sip of tea.
"It is about movie, about film. Maybe sometime about fun tv show or tv in general. Although not about television's per se. It could be, but it is not... It's not."
"So it is about... sorry, what again?"
"Oh, it is about delightful entertainment percived through screens"
After that they smile in somewhat of an unsetteling way, while staring blankly at a not recording camera.

Kurapikas small kisses tickling up her arm made Senritsu almost shriek a laughter, but instead she only leaned into his hug with a content sigh. Yet, when he pulled away from the hug Senritsu felt something rip inside and she almost stepped closer towards him and tried to pull him back. Almost. Only almost. Only almost, because the woman would never want to hold to the other or touch him when he did not wanted her to. Instead the woman only nodded slowly, even if the smile on her round face turned rueful. The bathroom was small and the tiles were so old-fahioned Senritsu was sure they were decades older than her- roses bloomed once pink and now only yellowish brown as if they had withered on the tiles. Slowly peeling herself out of her coat, blazer, shoes and socks the Musician walked over to the tub and turned onthe watertap, tapping her short fingers into the water until it had turned hot enough. With the hot water slowly filling the tub steam started to fill the bathroom, wrapping around the small mirror and colouring it grey, hiding the withered roses on the tiles, sneaking heavy and warm past Senritsus from the rain still drenched blouse and trousers. The water slowly filling the tu was loud, rushing, deafening adn Senritsu noticed with a frown that sitting on the edge of the bathtub and waiting for the water to rise high enough made it impossible to hear what was happening in the bedroom when she had just started to hear Kurapikas heartmelody turning from tensed and tiered to relax. It was so seldomly she could hear him this way. The musician did not wanted to miss a second of that song.
Carefully, her bare feet as quiet on the carpetfloor as a cats paws, she stepped back into the bedroom and to Kurapika, tapped her short fingers against his back to show him that she was there and than wrapped her arms around his waist from behind to fold her small hands over his upper stomach. With a quiet sigh, so quiet and tiered as if she was an old woman who had not rested in years, she let her cheek sink against the mans back; against his warmth; against the echo of his heartbeat buzzing through his flesh; against the wonderful scent of petrichor mixed into his cologne. Folding her small hands infront of Kurpaiaks stomach Senritsu just stayed this way for a few moments, enjoying beeing this close, enjoying having this moment, enjoying beeing able to be this close.
"...you know we can also just stay like this." The womans melodic voice was a warm humm. This close she could feel Kurapikas warmth even through his cloth and along with his heartbeat- suprisingly calm, suprisingly content, suprisingly carezzando with only an echo of the annoyance and tension that had dominated that song back in the car stuck in the traffic jam- it was a lullaby stroking along her ears. It lulled the woman in; welcomed calm, welcomed content, welcomed carezzando : "Just like this, sit on the bed, have a meal, drink some water, exchange bread-recipes, take a... mhmmm comodo nap together and sleep in until the morning. No bath or..." eyes already closed contently, She chuckled, shaking her head slowly over her own choice of words: "-other kind of duets needed. This is just enough. Very much enough." That was enough, and she would like to kiss him, Senritsu realized. That was enough and she really would like to kiss him, Senritsu realized and felt her cheeks turn hot by the mere thought of how innocent and slushily romantic that sounded. Just that and a kiss. Just that and a kiss and nothing else. The chuckle turned into a quiet laughter as gentle as a song, even if it sounded a little ruefully and the young woman looked up to Kurapika with a tormented smile that showed her horribly crooked teeth: "...goodness, do you hear me? I sound like I am quoting from a cheap romance-novella. I am sorry you deserve better, I swear I usually sound a lot of more witty and charming." Her damp sleeve rustled like the raindrenched autumnleafs past the motels walls when she redraw it from the others waist and lay it over hermouth, drowning her laughter as if she was flustered even if the laughter continued to shimmer in her dark eyes in all good humor. Tumblr media
"Mhmmmm, just admit that you are tiered of cooking for me and want to be pampered for once, mhm?" Senritsu was laughing when she climbed back into the car, she was laughing when she rubbed her face dry, and she was laughing like a teenager doing something forbidden when she hid the grocerys badly under her coat as if she was smuggling snacks into a cinema. Senritsu was laughing even more, biting her lips and holding her breath to not start cackling unladylike over the fact that all the not especially impresive work to hide the grocerys when bringing them into the motel was not important at all because the bellboy was a oung teenager who was more foused on the comicbook he had hidden under the checkout-counter than whoever he just gave the key to the room or whatever those two people brought into the room with them.
The room was small with a door to the bathroom and a small kitchencounter with a microwave put unelegantly right beside the entrance door, and the window opposite of the bed partly opened so the earthy scent of the rain could droop in slowly like the raindrops running along the windowframe. Nimbly Senritsu put the food and water down on the small kitchencounter, yet the movement was slow and she had tilted her head to the side as always when she was listening keenly. For she was listening- to Kurapikas tiered breathing, to his way of moving, to the gentle way he put the container with the eyes in the wardrobe, to he sigh he made when putting it down as if it was weighing a thausands tons, to the way his heartbeat suddenly fluttered as if he had let go of a heavy burden, to the way his breathing hitched into a soft song of content anticipation when he eventually turned to her to reach for her cheek.
In a quick movement the woman wrapped her arms around the mans neck and pulled him down, pressing her cold wet cheek against his. "Aw, what is that sound? Don't you enjoy my cold, damp, icy skin? I thought you promised to always love me, mhmmm? My heart breaks over you rejecting my cold, cold, cold fishskin! The horror, The disperato horror!" Teasing she rubbed her cold cheek against his, but eventually, still laughing, let go of him with a playful wink. Gently the womans hands wandered down from his shoulders, along his arms ad eventually ending holding his hands n her smaller ones with er fingers softly, abrely noticeable placed above the inside of his wrists where she could feel his heartbeat in the tact of the same melody throbbing in her ears. It was a exhausted song, a song echoing his laughter, a song singing of him feeling- finally, finally finally!-safe for once even witht he proof of his unsafeness starring from the container with scarlet eyes at him, a song of his comfortableness with her, a song that was as calming and content as it was tiered.
"I would love a hot bath-" with you. I would love that with you. I would love have that moments with you. By the thought Senritsu smiled a soft, honest smile that she did not eve felt on her dark lips. The young womans voice was a gentle humm, a soft song dancing along the notes of the rain hitting the rooms window: "....but are you alright?", her dark eyes searched for his carefully with a worried line appearing mild like a little scratch between her eyes: "Do you feel safe with the eyes in the wardrobe?or do you want to go back and ask for a safer place?"

Halloweenathon :Werewolf By Night
So we shall do something interesting, where gonna look at a Halloween special by the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the directorial debut of composer Michael Giaccino
Tumblr media
In this 2022 Special a group of monster hunters go on a hunt to see who can ga9in the Blood Stone and lead the hunters, except one of the hunters Jack Russell (Gael Garcia Bernal ) has a secret and his own agenda
So the MCU has had a bit of a backlash lately .I'll admit I used to be a big MCU fan ......But I have kind of missed all of Phase 4 save for the two Spider Man movies and a few episodes of What If ,I dont hate the MCU its just very few of the projects interest me
I will say this one did catch my attention though and I am happy to say even if you dont like the MCU I reccomend it
This is standalone and it is mostly just a loveletter to classic horror movies, notably Wolf Man and other horror films by Universal (Also homages to King Kong and of all things The Wizard of Oz ) .The quippy dialogue is at a minimum (Though one example at the start made me wince but thankfully it is not in all of the short ),got some gore ,some flourishes to feel like an old movie ,I like the werewolf makeup ,there is a certain Marvel monster who has a big role who I very much enjoyed and Gael Garcia Bernal is a great lead, all the other actors are good .Also for a first time director I think Giaccino is really good .Also ending is adorable
I wish they committed to the old movie feel more ,like old fahioned dialogue ,staging like the old films and I would have like if the other monster was a practical effect as opposed to CG ......Buuuuuttt I know thatrs just wishful thinking
I had a lot of fun with this special ,reccomend to werewolf fans

I think it’s obvious that Taylor loves the first half of the twentieth century and I personally think that her favourite decades are probably the 50′s and 60′s. She gives that vibe, specially in the red era, and somehow in the 1989 era too with the preppy style. Taylor has an obvious interest in high society and in the new rich of the 20th century, for example, she did buy the rhode island house that once belonged to Rebekah Harkness. Taylor also likes old hollywood, as we can see in her videoclip of wildest dreams where she imitates the actress Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. That video also reminds me of the movie the queen of africa (1951).  She also likes the Great Gatsby (1926), there’s plenty examples of her love for this book in her discography, and moroever she’s interested in american history and culture.
And of course, we can found a lot of references to these years in her music as we can see with the following examples:
- the lucky one:  So overnight, you look like a '60s queen
- starlight:  I met Bobby on the boardwalk summer of '45 (this song is about the Kennedy family so...)
- the last great american dynasty:  "There goes the last great American dynasty" and everything about this song.
- style: you got that James Dean daydream look in your eye
- ready for ir?:  And he can be my jailer, Burton to this Taylor
- happiness: all you want from me now is the green light of forgiveness
Taylor did an interview for teen vogue back in 2011 where she talked about fashion and said and quoted : “ I’m fascinated by is fahion throughout history, you know, I like to play around with vintage throwback looks and retro styles, and you know, kind of like one day you’ll do a red lip and wear sort of a dress that looks like it might be from the sixties” She also says that her fashion icons are Jackie O and Grace Kelly, both famous women of the 50′s and the 60′s.
