A work in progress. The more I add the more I like it. Not doing much this weekend. I received my second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine today so I am taking it easy, keeping close tabs on how I’m feeling, and drinking lots of water and tea. I am hoping that I won’t get any major side effects beyond the sore arm, but only time will tell... and in the meantime, the relief of knowing that in 2 weeks I’ll be mostly protected is incredible. Showing Up

Leaving my corporate customer service job and working towards building my own business has been a lesson in showing up for myself.

It is absolutely a privilege to be in this position right now. To leave employment and know I’ll be ok for awhile while I get this off the ground because I was earning enough in the past few years to save an emergency fund. I was talking to another creative recently who also left a service job in the past few months and she said something that really resonated with me. “It sounds ungrateful to leave a job during a pandemic…” But for both of us, it was so necessary. Our workplaces were not serving us in the ways we needed.

So I am learning how to serve my own needs in conjunction with showing up as a business owner. I am waking up and thinking how to utilize and sustain my creativity every day. I am listening to my body and trying to do what is best for my physical and mental health on the daily instead of gritting my teeth to get through another day in a position where I had tons of responsibility but very little power.

I am here to take the reins, to use my power for myself so I can get to a place where all my needs are being met, and I can direct the overflow I receive from the universe into my community, and towards the small businesses I respect and find inspiring.

It’s going to be weird and stressful and beautiful and empowering and humbling.

And I am so excited for this journey.
