my favorite yerf things

so yerf was a clean artwork only furry gallery in the 1990s. The most adult you could get was whatever was allowed on like network television. So like it was the nice version of VCL, which I never looked at because when I was a teen I was a hardcore prude.

When Yerf started it had no standards and anyone could join. Here was one of my drawings I used to join the site. I’m probably like 12-14 here. “ha ha wow the smudge tool is amazing”, said me, in like 1995, using paint shop pro

It was home to a CRAP TON of Sonic Fandom stuff, too.

Until Gonterman showed up and began uploading way waaay waaaaaaay too much fanart of Princess Sally every day (they had no upload limits prior to this). The owner of Yerf then banned all sonic fanart, imposed a 3 pictures a day upload limit (I mean we were all on like 33.6 modem speeds back then, so three a day was completely reasonable.

Gonterman flipped his fucking shit, deleted his entire sonic fandom website, taking down a bunch of exclusive content that was, back then, irreplaceable. This is when he made all of those MAD AT FANDOMS comics. Classic shit man. PS, hey dude, if you namesearch yourself sorry about dredging up the past. Don’t get mad! I actually own a copy of your Blood and Metal reboot. It’s on my bookshelf and it owns.

After that the site’s pretty drama free I guess.

Towards the end, however, they had begun to impose skill level limits, wanting to be some kind of exclusive high end furry art website. Ridiculous. Pompous. Unfortunately, there was the matter of all the artists who were grandfathered in before the quality control. Like me. And people never shut up about them. They constantly talked about kicking these people off so they wouldn’t sully the uploads page with what they considered bad art. Pretty embarrassing, really. It’s strange the things you think are soooooo important while they’re happening, and then years later you’re like wait, that shit didn’t matter AT ALL. Like oh no you have to see a drawing by OldRabbit, how hard for you QQ
