Villain: Beron Vanserra

Part 1 Part 2

The following morning, Beron admired himself in the mirror, the cape floating around him as he turned from side to side. The detailing on the bodice was sublime; a blood red doublet embroidered with gold phoenixes that sparked embers every few minutes. There was a belt cinched tightly around his waist, and velvet pants that matched his hair tucked into shiny black boots. Matching rings adorned his fingers and a delicate chain hung from his neck. Kaajal rimmed his eyes, giving him a mysterious look. He ran his fingers through his hair once before striding out of his room.

When Beron reached the courtroom, he found Violet already standing to their parents’ right, a deep purple empire gown with autumn colored leaves moving around it in a living spiral. Large chandelier-like earrings hung from her ears while her arms were adorned in bangles. The finest of amethyst necklaces hung around her neck while her eyes sparkled with glittering black eyeshadow. The rest of the family was equally well-dressed, and for once nobody was misbehaving. The Vanserras looked glamorous, royal, and unapproachable. Perfect for spreading fear.

“Send them in,” Frederick boomed. The guards by the main doors quickly opened them.

The lady Beron assumed was Vulcan’s future bride walked in nervously. Her straw-colored hair was pinned back tightly, her skin pale and delicate. Her eyes sparkled blue as the summer sky, but her cheeks were a little too rouge. Her dress was a little too tight, her smile a little too wide, and her hands a little too jittery.

Almost certainly, her parents had forced her to come like this so as to “wow” the royals when in reality, it made her look like a sacrifice.

She was beautiful on her own. She did not need to have her comfort taken from her to be so.

Her dress appeared to be made from roses, starting off white at the bottom and an ombre taking it to wine red near the bottom. Actual butterflies fluttered around the dress, pausing to take pollen from a flower before resuming their flight.

Beron looked to the male beside her and stilled.

He was dressed in robes that appeared to be made entirely out of dark green leaves, complete with a gold belt around the waist and a laurel on his head. His hair was auburn, his forest-green eyes narrowed with distate and distrust as he surveyed the Vanserras. His face looked as if the Mother had taken special time to mold it. He was very tall and muscular, and Beron found himself admiring his physique even as some part of him noted his attitude. Two other faeries stood behind them, leading Beron to guess that this man was Olivia’s brother.

Olivia curtseyed deep, her eyes staring downcast at the floor. Violet, normally so kind and nurturing, merely stared down at Olivia coolly. The picture of the imperious Vanserra.

“High Lord,” Olivia said breathlessly. Her voice sounded unnaturally high. Beron pitied her. At least as a Vanserra she would get all the respect she clearly didn’t receive in her own family.

Despite the difference in coloration, Beron could see the resemblance between the siblings; the shape of the eyes, the thickness of the brows, and the heart-shaped lips.

“I should like to delay the wedding,” the brother blurted out. The full focus of the Vanserra family turned to him.

“What is your name?” Violet asked, her voice cold as ice. Beron’s big sister was nowhere to be seen; in the courtroom, she became a different beast, just like Beron on the battlefield.

The male’s confidence wavered. “L-louis Jean Bellerose, my lady.”

The clicking of Violet’s heels echoed as she took a step forward, looking down her nose at him. “And why, exactly, do you wish to delay the wedding? Dare I ask whether you find the Vanserra hospitality to be…inadequate? Do you find the groom to be unsuitable to your tastes?”

Louis took a step backward. “N-no.”

Violet’s voice dropped to a whisper, but those in the courtroom could hear every word crystal clear. “I would hope not, for there are faeries would give their right arm to be part of such a prestigious family, but not a soul would dare challenge us should any of you go…missing tonight.”

Beron could hear Louis’s heart fluttering like a hummingbird, the rush of blood flowing through his veins as it desperately tried to accommodate the speed of the beat. Beron’s mouth twisted into a cruel smirk. Louis was learning exactly what family he was messing with.

“Understood, lady. I apologize if I have offended you. I promise it wasn’t my intention.”

Violet did not reply, merely continued to glare down at Louis until he shuffled his feet uncomfortably. Violet’s main skill may be diplomacy, but she would make a great war general. Beron could feel the amusement of the rest of his family. They enjoyed this; the fear from others, the feeling of superiority. But all Beron could think was that Violet was already asserting her dominance over all of them.

And Beron knew then; no matter how much he loved his sister, he could not give up the position of High Lord to her. Not so easily.

And so Beron began plotting.

- Ayla enjoys being well-dressed and putting on make up.  She also needs to wear makeup on the stage.  Her makeup does change however depending on what she’s doing.  If aboard the Crimson Phoenix, or at home, she’s likely in more subdued makeup.  If out for a night on the town, or performing, it’s likely bolder.

Jade leaned back on her hands as her legs dangled over the edge of the rock at the haven. Her eyes searching the stars above. She wasn’t looking for anything in particular, just stargazing.

She was content for the moment of respite, her bones weary and achy from the day and the hunts they had taken on. With a deep sigh she flopped backwards, resting her hands behind her head as she chuckled softly to herself, remembering a bit of banter from the boys throughout the day.

Turning her head just enough to look back at the campfire, three of her four companions were surrounding it. Noctis was looking intently at his phone, Gladio bounced a bit in his chair as he was enjoying his very rare cup noodle, and Ignis was bringing his mug to his lips, sipping on his very coveted ebony. Her brows furrowed a bit, noticing that there was one missing.

“Hey, babe?”

Tilting her head back to look at him upside down, she felt a smile pull slowly at her lips. “Hey sunshine.”

With a grunt she sat back up as he took up the space next to her, before he gently leaned over and softly kissed her cheek, causing that smile on her features to grow more.

“You ok?” he asked softly, his brows lifting a little.

“Yeah, just enjoying the quiet. It was a long day.” she chuckled and absentmindedly rubbed at her thigh before she turned her head to look at him.

Prompto smiled softly, and huffed out a little bit of a laugh. “It was wasn’t it. I guess I was just–” he let his words trail off, and she could have sworn she saw him blush, but it was hard to tell this far from the light of the campfire.

“Just what?” she pressed gently.

Prompto sighed softly, and lifted his hand a little to rub at the back of his neck as he gave her a soft, sheepish smile. “I just…well j-just missed you, it was kinda lonely over there without you.”

Jade giggled softly at how clingy he could be with her sometimes, and gently leaned over to press her shoulder against his. “Prompto, I’m not going anywhere, I promise. You know that, right?”

He nodded gently, and huffed a little. “I-I know, just, there was a few close calls out there, and I know I needed more phoenix downs than everybody else, but I just–I guess I worry about you too much huh?”

Jade chuckled softly, and reached up, pushing his fringe back from his face to lean over and kiss his cheek softly. “No, you worry about me just enough.”

The smile that lit up Prompto’s face caused her to giggle again, and gently move to lean back against her hands once more. Prompto seemed to shift closer to her, before he hummed softly, his lips close to the shell of her ear.

“Hey Angel?” when she looked at him, he smiled a bit more and dipped his head just a little. “C-Can I lay my head in your lap?”

Jade lifted a brow slightly, letting her eyes lock with his dark blue ones as his flittered between her own before she sighed, and smiled, patting her thigh. She couldn’t help but laugh as he gave off a giddy giggle, kissed her cheek then turned about to rest his head on her thigh, giving off a content sigh as he looked up at her. Her fingers moved to gently pet through his hair before he smiled up at her.

“They sure are pretty, huh Prompto?” Jade asked softly as she tilted her head back to look up at the stars once more.

“Yeah,” he smiled softly, knowing that she hadn’t noticed that he’d not taken his eyes of her yet. “Sure are.”
