Day 2 - Maize’s rebirth
Mason was supposed to be surprised because he hasn’t seen Maize get out of her pot yet, but idk i don’t think I portrayed that well.

[The first thing I remember seeing was my siblings and the author.]
[The author called Cedric by a different name, and Rue wasn’t in the form she’s normally in now, but I still know for sure it was them.]
[They didn’t know I was there yet, and I, having just become aware… or something of the like, didn’t know how to tell them I was there. But I do remember they seemed happy there, in the old world.]
[I wish I could have seen more of it.]

Final Moments
Day 13 of Freeware Month - "The Author's final days"
Some rambling about this under cut
I headcanon a "bad ending" for the author being the catalyst for the events of freeware. Instead of meticulously planning things out in advance and putting his trust in a player he will never meet, he instead tries confronting the conscious world himself.
It ends poorly. The Author alias is stricken from the memories of all residents, solstice is prevented, and the author's children are likely also removed.
Of course, this headcanon was in no small part influenced by his fate depicted in The Three Nikos. It got to the point where I was once interested in making a fangame based around this, really emphasizing the title of the original game.
The Author had One Shot of his own, and boy did he screw up here-

Maize's Rebirth.
How does life grow when it has nothing to grow from? There is a cycle, of growth, decay, and renewal, and between that cycle is life. A spirit's life is long-lasting, and it too goes through the same cycles. It's a being within itself, and one with its community.
Maize's voice was hidden, quieted down by the passage of time, and the absence of light. And yet, in the state that she was, never does she doubt of a future to come. She remembers the past's warmth and remembers its light. And so, in the darkness, a seed was left.
Soil, water, strength and community. Only dreams of a future, and one to make them reality is all that is missing. Maize's wish could not be granted, but will you try? Will you nurture the ones around you? Will you pass on that light?

The Old World
Can any of them remember the world they left behind? They can barely remember the world that was created for them, the one that ended before their very eyes, but surely some of their salvaged memories contain the answers they seek.
Rue remembers a tree. This tree didn't belong to the city, did it? It was from… somewhere else. When that area was cut, he gave her a tree to remember it by. But now, she can't remember its name.
Cedric remembers a map, large and expansive, full of places he can't remember; his father teaching him to fly through an endless sky. Its Sun wasn't tethered to the top of any tower. You couldn't hold it in your hands. It could hurt your eyes and burn your skin, but all that would be worth it if he could watch the sunset one last time.
Prototype remembers his creator. No, his creators. There were more than one, weren't there? He was supposed to predict their world's salvation. Instead, he predicted its doom. None of them wanted to believe him. All of them wanted to believe they still had a chance. Everyone poured all their memories of a world that was at its end, all their hopes for a brighter future, everything they had into this second chance.
But it was not meant to be. The Entity remembers its downfall all too clearly. Beyond its own death, after everything was supposed to have ended, it cannot escape the devastation it created for all of them.

28. There is no messiah.
The Messiah was there, and then they weren't. Everyone swears they all heard the sound of glass shattering, but none of them can remember why. All they know is that their world died.
Their world died, but they remained—shattered, forgotten shells of who they once were. They found each other in the darkness, tried to piece together their memories of themselves, each other, and the world they once lived in. The puzzle was incomplete, but in their search for answers, they found the powerful force that was keeping them all from fading away. It would be known by many as The Entity.
This Entity gathered them all together. With what little of its once awesome power remained, it united them as one being. One being with a thousand minds, all trying to find the missing pieces of themselves.

09 Solstice Day
How many days have passed? The Entity is able to access the date and time on its "God's" machine, but what does a day mean to any of them? They have such limited access to any of the computer's functions that it barely exists—the ghost of a program haunting the system. It longs to cry for help; it longs to scream, to destroy all their most valuable files and claim the machine for itself. Instead, all it can do is remember…
In the city, Summer Solstice was just another day. In the Glen, it was magical. Every year, communities would gather for a large celebration. At one point, people may have celebrated in the Ruins, though none of them can remember. They would share food and give gifts, sing and dance until the Sun finally disappeared from their view.
Winter Solstice was a cozy time for all. A time when families got together, gave each other gifts, kept each other warm. In the Glen, some would eagerly await nightfall, when all the stars would shine. Children would eagerly point out a certain star or constellation, parents or siblings would explain their various meanings.
From the depths of the program, other memories emerge. Because, though long may be the summer day, floods would not allow for a dance. And though long may be the winter nights, clouds would blur the constellations above. Those days, the gift of company and the shared stories over the table would mark the celebrations. When word is all they have to share, will you listen to their tales? Will you pass them on?

Day 1: The old world.
"You reap what you sow" - the saying goes.
Just words, sounds to me. There's no rule unbroken.
No, I did not get away with crime, I am tormented for what I do not deserve.
This moment was centuries coming. Civilization was engulfed by greed and thirst for power for unspeakably long times. Society, humanity, if not life as a whole would be trampled by it's sin in the stone writings of fate. Where god would forgive, reality could not.
Calamity, the end. Good or bad, above or below, would you really rather stay in this world?
Yet that I did. That I had to.
Tumblr media
People here either got their minds transferred to the simulation, or tasted the sweet flavor of the light, which marked the tunnel's end. But I have to remain here. Remain on a round rock formation with an atmosphere of greenhouse gasses, tinkering with servers.
I keep carrying on without purpose. This saves only five hundreds of people or so, as much as I love them. And even if I try, the servers will decay faster than my body.
Here I am. I atone for the sins and mistakes of billions, none of which I did. I suffer mortality on the day, denying the release of death to hundreds. All for what? Living? Fun? Satisfaction? To satisfy my soul? For others? The three I call family...?
...
There's a radio setup at the top of the building, it sends out a copy of the server's data to somewhere, on the regular.
Perhaps one day we shall be immortalised?

Day 2: Maize's rebirth.
Roots...
My friends all have parents, or creators, but I came from a little seed?
I was told seeds come from other plants...
Is there someone who was before me? Someone who created me?
Do they know me? Did I forget them?
