Exciting news is brewing in the world of cinema: Hollywood stars Tom Hiddleston and Willem Dafoe are in Kathmandu, Nepal, to begin work on the highly anticipated biographical drama Tenzing.
Insiders suggest they’re gearing up to bring Tenzing Norgay Sherpa extraordinary story to life.
Jennifer Peedom is at the helm, with spring 2025 marked as the start of principal photography, and Kathmandu, rich in mountaineering history, is the perfect backdrop.
Here’s what we know so far.
The Insider Scoop
According to our source in India, Tom Hiddleston, who’ll play Sir Edmund Hillary, and Willem Dafoe, cast as Colonel John Hunt, are in Kathmandu to kick off pre‑production and possibly even some early filming.
This fits the spring 2025 timeline that the team announced.
While the production hasn’t made a formal announcement yet, word is that Tenzing is moving full steam ahead in Nepal.
About the Film: Tenzing
Tenzing celebrates Tenzing Norgay, the Nepalese‑Indian Sherpa who, alongside Sir Edmund Hillary, became one of the first people to summit Mount Everest on May 29, 1953.
The filmmakers aim to spotlight his remarkable journey, honor his cultural heritage, and highlight the vital role Sherpas play in mountaineering, stories that often get glossed over.
See‑Saw Films is producing, with support from Apple Original Films, promising both breathtaking visuals and a narrative with real heart.
The Cast
Tom Hiddleston as Sir Edmund Hillary: Best known as Loki in the Marvel universe, Hiddleston will portray the determined explorer who forged an iconic partnership with Norgay.
Willem Dafoe as Colonel John Hunt: The Oscar‑nominated actor (seen in Platoon and Poor Things) takes on the role of the expedition leader whose strategy made the historic ascent possible.
Tenzing Norgay: Casting for the legendary Sherpa is still under wraps, with the production committed to finding someone who can truly embody his spirit.
Casting for Tenzing Norgay
One intriguing possibility floating around is Tenzing Norgay Trainor, the actor and grandson of the climber, known for his work in Disney’s Liv and Maddie and Netflix’s Abominable.
Tumblr media
His personal connection could bring an extra layer of authenticity, though the filmmakers have yet to confirm any names.
The Director
Jennifer Peedom, an Australian filmmaker who earned the Sherpa community’s trust through her documentaries Sherpa (2015) and Mountain (2017), is directing.
With a screenplay by Luke Davies (Lion), you can expect an approach that’s both respectful and deeply moving.
Why Kathmandu?
Kathmandu isn’t just a convenient shooting spot; it’s the heart of this story.
Roughly 160 kilometers from Everest Base Camp, its bustling markets, ancient temples like Boudhanath Stupa and Pashupatinath, and easy access to the Himalayas make it ideal for scenes depicting Norgay’s early life and the expedition’s final preparations.
If our intel is right, the cast and crew are already in full swing.
Hollywood’s History with Nepal
Nepal’s cinematic appeal isn’t new: Doctor Strange (2016) highlighted its mystical temples and winding streets, while Everest (2015) captured the raw power of the mountain itself.
With Tenzing, audiences worldwide will likely get another breathtaking glimpse of the Himalayas, and perhaps plan their own journeys there.
Production Details
Filming is slated to span both Nepal and New Zealand, with Kathmandu as the central hub.
Producers Liz Watts, Emile Sherman, and Iain Canning, known for their attention to detail, are overseeing the project, and Norbu Tenzing, the climber’s son, is on board as an executive producer to ensure cultural alignment.
While our source hints at significant activity already underway, the team seems determined to keep specifics close to the vest, perhaps to avoid crowds during filming.

In the bustling world of eSports, few could rival the fame of Pro-Gamer Miyawaki Sakura from Le Sserafim. Known for her sharp reflexes and strategic mind, she dominated the Valorant scene with her team. But recently, her attention had shifted to a new prodigy: a rookie male player who had taken the community by storm.
The Valorant community buzzed with excitement as Y/N, the rookie sensation, was making headlines. His gameplay was reminiscent of Tenz, combining precision with an uncanny ability to predict opponents' moves. Sakura, while preparing for her own matches, found herself drawn to his streams, captivated by his skill and charisma.
In her downtime, she would secretly watch his highlight reels, her heart racing at each clutch play. Little did anyone know, she had become one of his biggest fans.
The grand tournament was set, featuring some of the best teams in the world. Y/N’s team, Cloud9, was pitted against the reigning champions, Gen.G, in the semi-finals. The arena was electric, with fans eagerly anticipating the showdown.
As the match began, Y/N showcased his prowess with Jett, dashing through the map with surgical precision. The rounds were intense, each team trading blows, but Y/N consistently outperformed, making impossible shots and leading his team to victory.
Sakura, watching from the audience, couldn't help but cheer. Her heart fluttered with each of his plays. She was falling for him, and it was exhilarating.
The finals were set: Cloud9 versus Le Sserafim. The tension was palpable. As the teams gathered backstage, Sakura and Y/N finally met. He was charming, his confidence evident but not overbearing.
"Looking forward to our match," he said with a grin.
Sakura, momentarily flustered, replied, "I hope you're ready for a challenge."
Their banter was light-hearted, but both knew the stakes were high.
The match was legendary. Each map was a nail-biter, with both teams pushing their limits. The first match was set on Haven. As the timer counted down, Sakura’s fingers danced over her keyboard. She played Sage, anchoring the team with her healing and strategic walls.
The rookie’s team pushed aggressively. His precision with the Operator was deadly, picking off Le Sserafim members one by one. Sakura’s heart skipped a beat whenever she saw him on her screen, but she quickly refocused. She needed to keep her team in the game.
In a crucial round, Sakura found herself in a 1v3 situation. The crowd’s roar faded as she breathed deeply and clutched the round, using Sage’s abilities to perfection. The scoreboard evened out, and excitement crackled in the air. But Y/N retaliated on Ascent, his Jett plays leaving the crowd in awe.
The final map, Bind, was neck-and-neck. With the score tied, the last round would decide the victor. Y/N found himself in a 1v3 situation. The crowd held their breath as he deftly maneuvered, taking down two opponents. It was just him and Sakura now in a one-on-one duel. Sakura could feel the eyes of the crowd on her, the weight of her crush mingling with the pressure to win.
With nerves of steel, Sakura planted the spike. Y/N approached, anticipating her every move. The final showdown was a dance of skill and strategy, Sakura’s heart raced as she anticipated his moves, using her Viper abilities to outmaneuver him. The arena held its breath as she landed the final shot, securing victory for Le Sserafim.
"Congratulations,You were incredible out there." Y/N said, offering a handshake.
Sakura blushed and  took his hand warmly, her admiration for him evident. "I’ve been... a fan for a while," she admitted shyly.
Y/N grinned, "I’m honored, especially coming from someone like you."
As they shared a laugh, it was clear this was just the beginning of a new friendship—and perhaps something more.
————————————————————
In the days following the thrilling tournament, Sakura found herself constantly on the lookout for a glimpse of the rookie sensation, Y/N. Their moment of connection after the finals had left her with a fluttering heart and a newfound desire to get to know him better.
One afternoon, as Sakura was leaving the esports arena after a team practice, she turned a corner and nearly collided with a familiar face. There he was, Y/N, standing just a few feet away. Their eyes locked, and Sakura felt her breath catch in her throat.
"Sakura! I'm so sorry, I wasn't paying attention," Y/N said, a sheepish smile spreading across his face.
"No, no, it's my fault," Sakura replied, her voice barely above a whisper. "I... I wasn't expecting to see you here."
An awkward silence fell between them, and Sakura found herself searching for something to say, desperate to prolong their chance encounter.
"I was just, uh, heading out to get a coffee. Would you... would you like to join me?" Y/N asked, his eyes filled with a hopeful expression.
Sakura felt a surge of excitement at the invitation, her heart racing. "I'd love to," she responded, a shy smile spreading across her face.
As they walked side by side, the familiar scents of the arena fading in the distance, Sakura couldn't help but feel a growing sense of anticipation. This unexpected meeting had the potential to be the start of something truly extraordinary.
The cozy café was filled with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the soft murmur of conversation as Sakura and Y/N settled into a quiet corner. The atmosphere was casual and relaxed, yet Sakura couldn't help but feel a subtle tension between them, a palpable energy that crackled in the air.
"So, how have you been?" Y/N asked, his voice gentle and warm.
"I've been good, just... you know, practicing and preparing for the next tournament," Sakura replied, her fingers nervously wrapped around her mug.
An awkward silence fell between them, and Sakura found herself desperately searching for something to say, a way to break through the barriers and truly connect with Y/N.
Summoning her courage, she looked up and met his gaze. "I... I've been thinking about our match a lot, you know. The way you played, it was... it was amazing."
Y/N's eyes widened slightly, a hint of a smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "Really? I... I'm glad you enjoyed it. I have to admit, I've been thinking about it a lot too."
Their eyes locked, and the world around them seemed to fade away. Sakura could feel the energy shifting between them, the subtle flicker of something more than just a friendly connection.
"I... I'd love to play with you again sometime, if you're up for it," Sakura said, her voice soft and hopeful.
Y/N nodded, a warm smile spreading across his face. "Absolutely. I'd be more than happy to."
As they made plans to meet up for a gaming session, Sakura couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation. This casual meetup had opened the door to something deeper, and she was eager to see where this journey would lead them.
The familiar hum of gaming rigs and the click of keyboards filled the air as Sakura and Y/N immersed themselves in a friendly match. The tension between them had dissipated, replaced by a sense of comfortable camaraderie as they strategized and executed their plays.
Sakura found herself captivated by Y/N's skill and focus, the way his brow furrowed in concentration and the way his lips parted slightly as he issued commands. She couldn't help but steal glances at him, admiring the way he commanded the virtual battlefield.
As the match progressed, their communication and teamwork became increasingly seamless, each of them anticipating the other's moves and working in perfect harmony. Sakura felt a surge of pride and exhilaration, not just from the thrill of the game, but from the growing connection she felt with Y/N.
When the final round came to an end, the two pro-gamers sat back, their eyes meeting in a silent exchange. Sakura could feel the tension building, the unspoken feelings that lingered between them.
"That was... really amazing," Y/N said, his voice soft and sincere. "You're an incredible player, Sakura."
"Thank you," Sakura replied, her heart racing. "You were incredible as well. I... I really enjoyed playing with you."
Tumblr media
The air between them was thick with a palpable energy, and Sakura knew that the moment was ripe with the promise of something more. She felt a surge of courage, a desire to take a leap and explore the depths of this connection.
"Hey, would you... would you maybe want to grab a coffee sometime?" Sakura asked, her voice barely above a whisper. "I'd love to... to get to know you better."
Y/N's eyes widened, a warm smile spreading across his face. "I'd love that, Sakura. I really would."
The days that followed were filled with a sense of anticipation and excitement for Sakura. Her casual coffee date with Y/N had opened the door to a budding friendship, one that she found herself eagerly nurturing. They would meet up regularly, sometimes to game together, other times to simply chat and get to know each other better.
In those quiet moments, Sakura reveled in the easy banter and the genuine connection that was blossoming between them. There was a palpable chemistry that crackled in the air, a spark that both of them seemed hesitant to acknowledge, at least for the time being.
As the next major Valorant tournament loomed on the horizon, Sakura found herself torn between her professional obligations and the growing desire to explore this newfound relationship. She knew that the competition would be fierce, and she couldn't afford any distractions. Yet, the prospect of being apart from Y/N for an extended period left her with a sense of unease.
————————————————————
The hype and anticipation surrounding the upcoming Valorant tournament reached a fever pitch, with players and fans alike eagerly awaiting the clash of the titans. Sakura and her team, Le Sserafim, were considered the clear favorites, their dominant performances in previous events cementing their status as the team to beat.
But as Sakura prepared for the tournament, her focus began to waver. Memories of her time with Y/N would creep into her thoughts, distracting her from the intense training regimen she had so meticulously followed. The more she tried to push these feelings aside, the more they seemed to consume her.
One evening, after a grueling practice session, Sakura found herself alone in the team's gaming lounge, her fingers gently tracing the edges of her mouse. She couldn't shake the sense of longing that had taken root in her heart, the desire to be with Y/N and explore the depths of their connection.
It was in that moment of vulnerability that she made a fateful decision – a decision that would have far-reaching consequences, both for her professional career and her personal life.
————————————————————
The flashing lights and thunderous cheers of the Valorant tournament filled the arena as Sakura and Y/N took their positions on the stage. The energy was palpable, the air thick with anticipation as the two pro-gamers faced off in a highly anticipated match.
Sakura gripped her mouse, her eyes narrowed in concentration as she scanned the virtual battlefield. Y/N mirrored her expression, his brow furrowed as he plotted his team's strategy. The opening rounds were a tense back-and-forth, with both players showcasing their impressive skills and split-second decision-making.
As the match progressed, the crowd erupted in applause and shouts of exhilaration. Sakura and Y/N were in perfect sync. The tension was palpable, neither side willing to back down.
In the final moments, the score was tied, and the outcome hung in the balance. Sakura felt her heart pounding in her chest as she maneuvered her agent, her mind racing with calculations and contingencies. Across the stage, Y/N was equally focused, his eyes locked on the screen as he made a crucial play.
The final round was a nail-biter, both players pushing the limits of their skill and strategy. Sakura held her breath, her entire being consumed by the intensity of the match. And then, in a flurry of action, Y/N emerged victorious, his team erupting in celebration.
Sakura felt a mix of emotions – pride, admiration, and a twinge of disappointment. As she shook Y/N's hand, their eyes met, and she saw a glimmer of something more than just a professional rivalry. The spark that had ignited between them still burned brightly, undimmed by the heat of their virtual clash.
In that moment, Sakura knew that this was far from the end of their story. The Valorant stage had brought them together, but the true connection that lay between them was something that transcended the virtual realm.
The post-match interviews and press conferences had dragged on, and Sakura found herself eagerly anticipating the moment when she and Y/N could finally steal away from the public eye. As she made her way through the crowded backstage area, she spotted him, his gaze fixed on the ground, seemingly lost in thought.
Approaching him cautiously, Sakura placed a gentle hand on his arm, causing him to look up, his eyes widening in surprise.
"Hey, you," she said softly, offering him a warm smile.
Y/N returned the smile, though Sakura could detect a hint of vulnerability in his expression. "Hey, Sakura. That was... quite a match, huh?"
"It was," Sakura replied, her voice low and intimate. "You played incredibly well. I'm... I'm really impressed."
A moment of silence passed between them, the weight of unspoken emotions hanging in the air. Sakura could feel the tension building, the desire to bridge the gap between them growing stronger with each passing second.
"Y/N, I..." she began, her voice trembling slightly. "I need to tell you something."
He looked at her, his eyes filled with a mixture of anticipation and apprehension. Sakura took a deep breath, summoning her courage.
"I... I've been thinking about you a lot. About us. And I... I can't stop thinking about the connection I feel between us. It's... it's more than just a professional rivalry, isn't it?"
Y/N remained silent, his expression unreadable. Sakura's heart raced, the uncertainty of his reaction threatening to consume her.
"I know this might be... complicated," she continued, her voice barely above a whisper. "But I... I need you to know how I feel. I don't want to keep this bottled up any longer."
The air was thick with tension as Sakura waited, her entire being focused on Y/N's response. The moment seemed to stretch on endlessly, until finally, he reached out and gently took her hand, his touch sending a shiver down her spine.
"Sakura..." he began, his voice low and filled with emotion. "I feel it too. I... I've been struggling with these feelings for a while now."
Sakura's breath caught in her throat, her heart threatening to burst from her chest. The vulnerability in Y/N's eyes was a mirror to her own, and in that moment, she knew that the path forward, though uncertain, was one they would navigate together.
The air crackled with a potent mixture of vulnerability and anticipation as Sakura and Y/N stood there, their hands intertwined, the world around them fading into the background.
"I've been... so afraid to say anything," Sakura confessed, her voice barely above a whisper. "I didn't want to jeopardize our careers, our friendship. But I can't keep denying what I feel for you."
Y/N gave her hand a gentle squeeze, his eyes reflecting the same tumultuous emotions she was experiencing. "Sakura, I feel the same way. These past few months, getting to know you, being around you... it's been both exhilarating and terrifying."
Sakura felt a surge of relief wash over her, but the uncertainty that lingered was palpable. "What do we do now? This... this could complicate things, both on and off the field."
"I don't know," Y/N admitted, his brow furrowed in contemplation. "But I do know that I don't want to lose you, Sakura. Whatever happens, I want us to figure this out. Together."
Sakura's heart swelled with a mixture of joy and trepidation. She knew the challenges they would face, the scrutiny and the potential fallout, but in that moment, all that mattered was the connection they shared.
"Okay," she said, her voice steadier now. "Let's take this one step at a time. We'll figure it out, no matter what."
Y/N nodded, a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "I'm with you, Sakura. Through it all."
As they stood there, hand in hand, the weight of their decision hung heavy in the air. But there was also a glimmer of hope, a promise of a future that was theirs to shape, no matter the obstacles that lay ahead.
————————————————————
The aftermath of the Valorant tournament was a whirlwind of activity, with both teams and players facing intense scrutiny and media attention. Sakura and Y/N had made the conscious decision to keep their newfound relationship under wraps, at least for the time being.
However, their carefully guarded secret was not destined to remain hidden for long. During a post-match interview, a seemingly innocuous question about their "close friendship" triggered a line of questioning that quickly spiraled out of control.
Sakura felt her heart race as the interviewer probed deeper, hinting at the possibility of a romantic involvement between the two pro-gamers. She glanced at Y/N, who was visibly tense, his jaw clenched as he struggled to maintain his composure.
The tension in the room was palpable, and Sakura knew that they were rapidly running out of time to address the situation before it spun entirely out of their control. She took a deep breath, summoning her courage, and made the decision to speak up.
"Look, the truth is, Y/N and I... we have developed a deep connection. One that goes beyond just being teammates or competitors." Sakura paused, her gaze unwavering as she met the interviewer's eyes. "We've been trying to navigate this situation as best we can, but the reality is, we care about each other. Deeply."
The room erupted in a flurry of activity, with reporters shouting questions and cameras flashing. Sakura felt Y/N's hand brush against hers, offering a silent show of support amidst the chaos.
In that moment, they both knew that there was no going back. Their relationship was now public knowledge, and the consequences, both professional and personal, would be significant. But as they stood there, facing the storm together, Sakura couldn't help but feel a sense of resolve.
Whatever lay ahead, they would face it side by side, determined to forge their own path and to explore the depths of their connection, no matter the cost.
The fallout from the public reveal of Sakura and Y/N's relationship was swift and unforgiving. The esports community, known for its intense rivalries and cutthroat nature, erupted in a frenzy of speculation, criticism, and even outright hostility.
Both players found themselves at the center of a media storm, their every move scrutinized and dissected. Accusations of favoritism, bias, and potential conflicts of interest began to swirl, threatening to overshadow their impressive accomplishments on the Valorant stage.
Sakura and Y/N weathered the storm with remarkable resilience, though the emotional toll was undeniable. They faced intense pressure from their respective teams, as well as from sponsors and league officials, all of whom were concerned about the potential impact on their brands and reputations.
Yet, amidst the chaos, their bond only grew stronger. They leaned on each other, offering support, comfort, and a steadfast determination to weather the storm together. In the rare moments they could steal away from the public eye, they would simply hold each other, drawing strength from the connection that had blossomed between them.
"I never imagined it would be this difficult," Sakura confessed one night, her head resting on Y/N's shoulder. "But I don't regret it, Y/N. I don't regret choosing you."
Y/N pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead, his arms tightening around her. "Neither do I, Sakura. We'll get through this. I promise."
As they sat there, the weight of the world seemingly on their shoulders, they knew that their love would be the anchor that kept them grounded, even in the face of the most turbulent storms.
————————————————————
Despite the intense scrutiny and controversy surrounding their relationship, Sakura and Y/N refused to let it dampen their competitive spirit. As the next major Valorant tournament approached, they were more determined than ever to prove their worth on the virtual battlefield.
In the weeks leading up to the event, they immersed themselves in a rigorous training regimen, pushing their skills to new heights. Sakura could feel the electricity coursing through her veins as she honed her strategies, her focus laser-sharp and unwavering.
Y/N, for his part, matched her intensity, his gameplay reaching new levels of precision and adaptability. The two of them were in perfect sync, their communication and teamwork seamless as they coordinated their team's movements.
As the tournament began, the scrutiny and pressure only seemed to fuel their determination. Sakura and Y/N were a force to be reckoned with, their performances captivating the audience and their opponents alike.
With each successive win, the noise and criticism that had once threatened to overwhelm them began to fade into the background. All that mattered was the thrill of the competition, the rush of adrenaline, and the unbreakable bond that united them.
And as the final match of the prestigious Valorant tournament commenced. Sakura and Y/N, once fierce rivals, now united by a love that transcended the virtual battlefield, found themselves pitted against each other once more – but this time, the stakes were higher than ever before.
The world watched with bated breath as the two pro-gamers led their respective teams through a grueling series of rounds, their skills and strategic prowess on full display. The intensity of the competition was palpable, the tension thick enough to be cut with a knife.
Yet, amidst the fierceness of the battle, Sakura and Y/N shared fleeting glances, a silent language that spoke volumes of the profound connection they shared. Their teamwork and synergy were unparalleled, each anticipating the other's moves, their decisions seamlessly in sync.
As the match reached its crescendo, the score remained tied, both teams refusing to back down. It was in this moment of pure, unadulterated tension that Sakura and Y/N found their moment to shine.
With a flawless execution of a daring maneuver, Y/N outmaneuvered Sakura's team, securing the final victory for his squad. The arena erupted in thunderous cheers, the fans captivated by the sheer brilliance of the play.
In the aftermath, Sakura and Y/N met in the center of the virtual battlefield, their eyes locking in a moment of profound understanding. Y/N reached out, gently taking Sakura's hand, and in that instant, the world seemed to fade away, leaving only the two of them.
"Congratulations, Y/N," Sakura whispered, a soft smile gracing her lips. "You were amazing out there."
Tumblr media
Y/N returned the smile, his thumb caressing the back of her hand. "I couldn't have done it without you, Sakura. This victory belongs to both of us."
In that moment, their bond transcended the confines of the tournament, their love shining through as a testament to the belief that true triumph could only be found in the strength of their shared journey. The world watched in awe, captivated by the raw, unadulterated emotion that radiated from the two pro-gamers.
As they stepped off the virtual stage, hand in hand, Sakura and Y/N knew that their story was just beginning. The future was theirs to shape, a canvas upon which they would continue to paint the masterpiece of their love – a love that would inspire generations to come, a love that knew no boundaries.

Remains of Andrew 'Sandy' Irvine Who Vanished in 1924 Found on Mount Everest
The foot, boot and sock thought to belong to Sandy Irvine, who disappeared during George Mallory's 1924 expedition to climb Mount Everest, have likely been found. They could be a vital clue in unraveling an even bigger mystery.
Remains believed to belong to a British explorer who vanished more than 100 years ago while climbing Mount Everest have finally been found.
Andrew Comyn "Sandy" Irvine, aged 22, disappeared along with the mountaineer George Mallory in June 1924. The pair were attempting to become the first people to scale the world's highest peak.
It's still a mystery whether they succeeded in their goal before they died. Mallory's remains were discovered in 1999, which were missing a photograph of his wife that the climber had planned to leave on the summit. Irving, who had been carrying a Kodak camera that may have recorded a possible historic summit, was never recovered. The summit was officially first reached 29 years later, when Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay scaled Everest from its south side in 1953.
Now, a National Geographic documentary team, including the Oscar-winning director Jimmy Chin and the climbers and filmmakers Erich Roepke and Mark Fisher, have found what they believe is Irvine's foot.
Tumblr media
Encased in a boot and wearing a sock stitched with his name, the foot was discovered on Everest's Central Rongbuk Glacier, further down the mountain from Mallory's remains.
"I lifted up the sock," Chin told National Geographic, "and there's a red label that has A.C. IRVINE stitched into it."
Irvine and Mallory were last seen on June 8, 1924, as they set off to scale the summit. One of their expedition teammates, Noel Odell, reported spotting the two near the second of the mountain's three steps as two tiny black dots. One of the dots broke past the skyline during a brief parting of the clouds, then they disappeared.
Tumblr media
Mallory's body was found less than 2,000 feet (600 meters) from the summit by the U.S. rock climber Conrad Anker. Mallory's remains were tied by a rope around the waist and had injuries suggesting that the pair had fallen while connected together.
By searching near these remains and scouring the glacier for clues, Chin and his team located the boot melting out of the ice.
"This was a monumental and emotional moment for us and our entire team on the ground, and we just hope this can finally bring peace of mind to his relatives and the climbing world at large," Chin said.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The team sent the remains to China Tibet Mountaineering Association, which is responsible for climbing permits on Everest's northern side. The find was also reported to the Royal Geographical Society, which organized Irvine and Mallory's expedition, and Irvine's great niece and biographer, Julie Summers.
"I have lived with this story since I was a 7-year-old when my father told us about the mystery of Uncle Sandy on Everest," Summers said, as reported by the Guardian. "When Jimmy told me that he saw the name AC Irvine on the label on the sock inside the boot, I found myself moved to tears. It was and will remain an extraordinary and poignant moment."
The Irvine family has volunteered to take a DNA test so that the identity of the remains can be conclusively determined. Meanwhile, Chin and his team will continue to search for more artifacts. If Irvine's camera is found and it can prove they scaled the peak, it could potentially rewrite history.

There's a joke I've heard a few times, that Laurence is so formal that even his lover calls him by his last name.
And there's certainly something to that idea so I wanted to do some fun statistics on the question:
Who get's called by their first name in Temeraire, how often (and by whom)?
For anybody who only wants the numbers here's the overall highscore:
Total mentions by first name only (638 total)
1st "Jane" Roland: 243
2nd "Emily" Roland: 154
3rd "Catherine" Harcourt: 100
4th "Edith" Galman/Woolvey: 55
5th "John" Granby: 25
6th "Tom" Riley: 23
7th "George" Allendale: 8 (all in Victory of Eagles)
8th "Tenzing" Tharkay: 6
9th "Henry" Ferris: 5 (all by his family in Empire of Ivory)
10th "Jean-Paul" Choiseul, "Augustine" Little, "Bertram" Woolvey, "Gerry" Stuart: 1
The more in-depth answer got way longer than expected, so I decided to split this post up a bit. For a more thorough look at first four places, keep on reading after the cut.
For place 5-10 read on in part 2. For a look into usage of Will and some dragon thoughs go to part 3
The place for most first name mentions over all goes to Jane Roland, who is mentioned a staggering 243 times out of 638 total. Laurence starts both thinking of her and addressing her as Jane after their first night together and even Temeraire uses Admiral Rolands first name in conversation (in Black Powder War).
What is interesting to me is that, after Laurence starts he does not really stop thinking of her as 'Jane' or addressing her as such in conversation, even after their break at the end of Empire of Ivory and through Laurence's general feelings of guilt in the later books. To me this goes a long way of showing that Laurence still considers them close, even if he can not get over the harm he has caused with his actions after taking the dragons cure to Napoleon.
Beyond Laurence narration, we also get two other moments in League of Dragon where Excidium talks of her as 'Jane' and 'my Jane' <3.
Looking beyond Jane Roland, one of the most consistent topics in her conversations with Laurence beyond the war seems to be her daughter. As soon as Jane first mentions Emily by her first name in His Majesty's Dragon, Laurence picks it up and Emily Roland becomes Emily more often than not from then on. This seems to happen especially often in more familial or interpersonal scenes, such as when Laurence takes her and Demane to task about their relationship in Crucible of Gold or when she is meeting Laurence father at Wilberforce's subscription-rally early in Empire of Ivory.
Emily is also called by her first name by both Temeraire and Mrs. Pemberton, who in their own way might both count her as part of their family or as in their care. We may also guess that, since Emily is friendly with a number of characters especially other minors over the course of the book, she may also go by Emily in a lot of other occasions that are simply not part of the narrative.
Interestingly, while Laurence is shy of calling any of the other aviators by their first name, he starts calling Catherine Harcourt 'Catherine' in his head by Empire of Ivory. Specifically he starts using the name after seeing Tom Riley greeting her on the 'Allegiance'. This moment seems to signify a shift in Laurence perceiving her as different from just her status as an aviator friend or acquaintance. While to our knowledge he never uses the name to her face, he also starts calling her Catherine when talking to Tom Riley.
The usage of 'Catherine' continues through Laurence narration in Victory of Eagles, though he is back to using 'Captain Harcourt' in the later books.
Overall there are 100 times when Harcourt is called Catherine.
In conversation it is mostly Lily (11) who uses her first name, but there's also Jane Roland who calls Harcourt Catherine in non-formal settings (2).
And then there's Choiseul in His Majesty's Dragon of course. His use of 'Catherine' is a pretty good indicator of their intimacy, even before Laurence picks up on their relationship. I think it works so well, since at that point in the books, the mention of any first names has been pretty rare. In response she calls him Jean-Paul. This stops immediately after Choiseul's betrayal though, and indeed he never mentions her by name from this point on until his execution.
I also want to mention Rankin, who certainly has not earned the informality, but calls Harcourt almost dismissively by her first name at her first introduction to Laurence. Possibly being condescending both about her age, as well as her being a women.
Overall I think the use of Harcourts first name in the books is the most varied and it can almost always tell us as much, if not more, about the people using it in their different forms than about Catherine Harcourt herself.
Forth in place of intimate mentions is Edith 'Woolvey' née Galman. As Laurence former promised childhood friend he is consistently on a first name basis with her. She is mentioned as just 'Edith' 55 times in the course of four of the books: His Majesty's Dragon, Victory of Eagles, Blood of Tyrants - where Laurence thinks of her exactly once during his amnesiac arc and finally League of Dragons.
As you may have guessed from the numbers, the women make up the staggering majority of all first name mentions with a staggering 552 of 638, or 86% of all moments.
-----
Notes on the gathered data: I looked at all instances of known first names of main or supporting characters, but excluded the following:
Any mention where the first name was part of the full name or was prefixed by a title (such as Captain Catherine Harcourt, Lady Emily)
Any dragons, since dragons (with exceptions) only have single name
Any character mentioned exclusively by their first name (I'm sorry Demane, Sipho, little Gerry the Orphan and various babes)

Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park will provide the backdrop for a movie about Sherpa Tenzing Norgay's world-first summit of Mount Everest with Sir Edmund Hillary.
The Department of Conservation (DOC) approved filming on Malte Brun Pass near the Tasman Glacier and near the Hochstetter Icefall on the eastern side of the mountain, which would double as Everest base camp and the famous Hillary Step on the world's highest peak.
DOC ranger Ray Bellringer said while the sites had previously been used for Everest-related documentaries and films, the movie's producers had to adhere to strict rules.
"All filming activities are subject to strict environmental conditions to ensure the protection of the natural landscape. DOC staff will be onsite daily to monitor compliance," he said.
"This is an incredibly special place and it's our role to protect it."
Bellringer said New Zealand and Nepal had a long relationship through the Himalayan Trust, particularly since 70 Nepalese students including many Sherpa had come to study nature-based tourism and community conservation at Lincoln University since 1953.
"Sir Edmund Hillary dedicated much of his life after 1953 to supporting Nepalese communities. It is fitting that this project recognises the life and contributions of Tenzing Norgay and we are proud to provide a setting that supports this storytelling," he said.

Apple won the rights to the film Tenzing during an auction at Cannes Film Festival in May 2024.
The company will co-produce the film with production company See-Saw Films for worldwide release on streaming platform Apple TV+ at an unknown date.
BAFTA-nominated director Jennifer Peedom has a pre-existing connection to the Norgay family, who contributed to her documentaries Miracle on Everest and Sherpa.
The script has been written by Luke Davies, known for the 2016 film Lion, which landed him an Academy Award nomination for best screenplay.
Genden Phuntsok is to star as Norgay inTenzing, while Hollywood star Tom Hiddleston will play Sir Edmund.
Academy Award nominee Willem Defoe has been cast as English expedition leader John Hunt.
The production is expected to bring a significant economic boost to the region, with a large production crew and cast staying at the village.
Filming has concluded in Nepal and will begin in New Zealand next month.

W. H. Murray was born on March 18th 1913 in Liverpool.
Many of you might not heard of William Hutchinson Murray to give him his full name, but he arguably did more to popularise Scotland as a walking and climbing destination than anyone else in the past century, and that includes the late Tom Weir, who was largely only known to us Scots.
His father, who was killed at Gallipoli in 1915, had been an enthusiast for the outdoors, but it was not until 1934 that a passion for the mountains was awakened in Murray himself. He overheard a mountaineer talking of a weekend climb of An Teallach in in terms that made Murray dream of experiencing the mountains for himself.
So early in 1935 he set off for one of the very few mountains he had heard of in Scotland, The Cobbler, near Arrochar. This he climbed in winter, by himself, and without maps, proper clothing or equipment. As he says in his book, Undiscovered Scotland: "From that day I became a mountaineer." Murray spent the remainder of the 1930s walking and then climbing throughout the length and breadth of Scotland, becoming a particular pioneer of winter climbing in the Western Highlands. You have to note that nowadays Murray would have been slated for undertaking such a task without being suitably equipped, but this was in the days before health and safety.
At the outbreak of World War II he enlisted in the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders and saw action in the Middle East and North Africa, but was captured by a German Panzer division in Egypt in 1942. A passage in Mountain magazine from 1979 describes the moments after his capture:
To my astonishment, he [the German tank commander] forced a wry smile and asked in English, 'Aren't you feeling the cold?' ... I replied 'cold as a mountain top'. He looked at me, and his eyes brightened. 'Do you mean – you climb mountains?' He was a mountaineer. We both relaxed. He stuffed his gun away. After a few quick words – the Alps, Scotland, rock and ice – he could not do enough for me.
He saw out the war in camps in Italy, Germany and Czechoslovakia and it was in these camps he started writing, paper was in short supply and he used the only paper available to him – rough toilet paper supplied by The Red Cross. The manuscript was found and destroyed by the Gestapo. To the incredulity of his fellow prisoners, Murray's response to the loss was to start again, despite the risk of its loss and that his physical condition was so poor from the near starvation diet that he believed he would never climb again. The rewritten work was finally published in 1947, Mountaineering in Scotland and it's follow up Undiscovered Scotland were best sellers and have an honoured place on the bookshelves of many enthusiasts.
Incarceration left its mark on many PoWs, but Bill Murray continued the activity he loved and in 1950 led expeditions to Garhwal and Almora in the Himalayas. He was deputy leader on the reconnaissance of Everest in 1951, but difficulties in acclimatising to the altitude excluded him from the successful assault by Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing on the world's highest peak in 1953.
In later life he wrote extensively - guidebooks, works of topography, magazine articles and fiction. He was awarded the Mungo Park Medal of the Royal Scottish Geographical Society in 1953, his work includes The Scottish Himalayan Expedition, Glencoe, Blackmount and Lochaber : a regional guide, Companion Guide to the Western Highlands of Scotland and Rob Roy MacGregor – His Life and Times, as well as several works of fiction
W.H. Murray played an increasingly important role in issues to do with the environment of Scotland from the 1960s onwards. In 1960 he surveyed Scotland's mountain areas for the National Trust for Scotland, and he served on the Countryside Commission for Scotland from 1968 to 1980. He was also Chairman of the Scottish Countryside Activities Council from 1968 to 1982; President of the Mountaineering Council for Scotland from 1972 to 1975; President of the Scottish Mountaineering Club from 1962, and Honorary President of it from 1989; and a founding Trustee of the John Muir Trust until 1986.
His autobiography, The Evidence of Things Not Seen: A Mountaineer's Tale, was completed on his death by his wife Anne, he passed away on March 18th 1996 a day after his 83rd birthday.

Shinkane Week 2024:
DAY THREE: Time or Space
Spy x Family AU
Kogami works for MoFA agents, Akane is a secret inspector under Sybil, and Tenzing is a teenager that can read minds.
(more notes under on this AU that is now living in my brain rent free)
(post pp3 vibe)
Kogami is the one who is told by Frederica to adopt a teenager to send to a school (?) something something Sybil's elites. He finds Tenzing, a very bright and perceptive kid who decides to follow Kogami around and ask him to teach her how to avenge her parents. Because he looks very tough, and because she can read minds, but she doesn't tell him that.
Akane does spying and investigating work in the dark for Sybil, even though she knows the truth of about Sybil, she sees it as a lesser of evils for now. Sybil "suggests" her to marry Homura. (ah yes, the funny colon three cat Homura is also here, and also hmm the ao3 fanfics you know I have been reading) To escape this arranged political marriage, Akane is set to find herself a husband to get out of being more of a pawn of Sybil.
Kogami runs into her and somehow Akane propose to him. (Kogami is too much of a wet cat to be able to ask her.)
Tenzing is often told she looks like Akane, that they have same eyes. Even through in this cover story Tenzing is supposed to be Kogami and his ex wife's child, everyone keep thinking Tenzing and Akane are blood related.
Akane cannot cook at all, Kogami is the one who cook for the house.
I need to draw Mika as Yuri coming to visit their apartment, god it would be so funny.
I wrote way too many words in @h4msanta's DM about how everyone fits into this AU. I might just have to keep drawing more art so I can explain it.
Notes on the drawing:
(This was such a blast to draw! I am so happy with this piece. This is a parody of Spy x Family Mission 1 cover.
Most of the hard work was to find things to populate the ground with. On Akane's side we have some exploded bodies, a dead Kasei and a funny brain in vat. Kogami's side is what I was really spend a lot of time thinking. I spent a lot of time looking at blurry images of profiling books and also screen shots of different parts of the show. I have now become friends with imfdb. We have his trusty revolver; dog tags and med bag from 2015 movie; huge backpack from sinner of the system 3; Milkor Mark 14 that goes "thonk" that Kogami has with him in the 2015 movie when he runs into Akane; the practice drone that Kogami beats up in s1, Hera Arms CQR that Kogami uses in the beginning of Sinner of the system 3. I even googled lengths of guns so I can fit everything in.)

Oooh if no one has asked yet—five times will Laurence was in pain?
A likely request from a Temeraire enjoyer- this is a 5+1 and being "in pain" isn't quite accurate, because it's actually "fives times Will Laurence's previous injuries and experiences caused him to experience disability after his retirement and he refused to let anyone help him and one time he did" but that's not as snappy as "in pain" so. What can you do.
“William Laurence, if you will not sit down, I will have Temeraire carry you off myself!” It was unusual enough to hear at Tharkay a volume that could be considered anything other than sardonic; to hear him in a true and fine temper was exceedingly rare. His voice raised to the point of yelling might have been enough to sit Laurence back down on its own, had Laurence’s own temper not been heightened at the pain radiating in his leg and at the insistence that he could not retrieve the case of maps which was just out of reach for Tharkay but perfectly within his own.  “It will take me only a moment, I promise I am- ah-”  His leg, already weakened from the cold and the pain and his own inattention, gave out. For one moment, Will thought that he would sprawl across the hard wood floor of Tharkay’s study- but no, there was Tenzing, who had fairly lunged to arrest Will’s collapse. For all that his hands were gentle and secure, though, his face was set into a stony, livid silence. Laurence swallowed and righted himself, spilling into the chair he had only recently vacated. He spread his hands in an attempt at supplication, at appeasement. “Tenzing…” “Don’t.”

NEW ZEALAND: Tenzing Norgay movie with Hollywood A-Listers to be filmed at Aoraki/Mount Cook
Alpine landscapes in Aotearoa (NZ) and within the Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park will serve as the backdrop for a new biopic about Nepalese Sherpa Tenzing Norgay’s 1953 epic climb to the summit of Mount Everest alongside New Zealander Sir Edmund Hillary. The NZ Department of Conservation (DOC) has approved filming on Malte Brun Pass near the Tasman Glacier and near the Hochstetter Icefall on the eastern side of Aoraki/Mount Cook, which will ‘double’ as Everest base camp and the famous Hillary Step on the world’s highest peak.
“These sites have been used for filming Everest-related documentaries and films before,” says DOC Ranger Ray Bellringer. “All filming activities are subject to strict environmental conditions to ensure the protection of the natural landscape. DOC staff will be onsite daily to monitor compliance. This is an incredibly special place and it’s our role to protect it,” he says.
Bellringer also noted the long-standing relationship between New Zealand and Nepal through the Himalayan Trust, and the involvement of Nepalese students in conservation and education programs, including through Lincoln University’s Parks and Recreation degree. Since 1953 around 70 Nepalese including many from the Sherpa community have come to Lincoln for study in nature-based tourism and community conservation.
“Sir Edmund Hillary dedicated much of his life after 1953 to supporting Nepalese communities,” Bellringer added. “It is fitting that this project recognises the life and contributions of Tenzing Norgay, and we are proud to provide a setting that supports this storytelling.  It’s an iconic setting for an incredible story.”

Filming in New Zealand is scheduled to begin next month. The production, which has already completed scenes in Kathmandu, Nepal, will feature Tom Hiddleston as Sir Edmund Hillary, Genden Phuntsok as Tenzing Norgay, and Willem Dafoe as English expedition leader John Hunt.
The production is expected to bring a significant economic boost to the local area with a large production crew and cast staying in the village and surrounding area.
Set construction and logistical preparations are currently underway.  DOC staff will continue to work closely with the production team to ensure minimal environmental impact. Ray Bellringer says he happy Tenzing Norgay’s story is getting recognition.
“We’re pleased to support this movie project and help showcase it to the world. For Aoraki and the staff here to play a small part in helping to make that happen is special,” he says. (NAN/DOC 12-06-25)

Tom Hiddleston's Everest 🗻Thriller ‘Tenzing’ Lands at Apple.
Tumblr media
“Tenzing,” a film about the true story of Sherpa Tenzing Norgay’s 1953 trek to the summit of Mount Everest alongside Edmund Hillary, has been snapped up by Apple Original Films.
Casting is underway for Tenzing while “Loki” star Tom Hiddleston is set to play New Zealand mountaineer Edmund Hillary. On May 29, 1953, Hillary and the Nepalese Sherpa, Tenzing Norgay, set foot on the summit of Mount Everest, the highest point on Earth. They had succeeded where others had failed, and had survived a journey that had taken the lives of great explorers before them.
Tumblr media
Willem Dafoe (“Eternity’s Gate”) as English expedition leader Colonel John Hunt. British army officer, mountaineer, and explorer John Hunt was best known for leading the 1953 expedition in which Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay reached the summit of Mount Everest, the highest mountain (29,032 feet [8,849 meters]) in the world. Hunt described the venture in the book The Ascent of Everest (1953).
Tumblr media
The film, produced by Oscar-winning producer See-Saw Films (The King’s Speech) is gearing up on Tenzing, about the inspirational life of Sherpa Tenzing Norgay and his summit of Mount Everest in 1953 alongside fellow outsider New Zealander Edmund Hillary, and directed by Jennifer Peedom, is currently in production, with casting still underway for the role of Tenzing Norgay. Jennifer Peedom has a close relationship with the Tenzing family and the Sherpa community following her acclaimed documentary, Sherpa.
Tibetan born Tenzing Norgay, alongside New Zealand mountaineer Edmund Hillary, both outsiders on a British Expedition, defied insurmountable odds to achieve what was once thought impossible, reaching the summit of the world’s tallest mountain, “ Mount Everest,” reads the logline. After six previous attempts, Tenzing risked everything for one final venture.
The film will tell the story of the British expedition which in 1953 finally conquered the hitherto unconquerable and reached the top-most peak of the highest mountain in the world - Mount Everest. An unforgettable achievement.
Caitríona Balfe is set to join the ensemble of Apple Films. Balfe will play ‘Jill Henderson,’ a friend of Tenzing who helped organise trips up Mount Everest. She was Honorary Secretary of the Himalayan Club between 1951–1955, and in this role she organised the Sherpa teams for several expeditions.. The Himalayan Club is an organisation founded in India in 1928 along the lines of the Alpine Club.
Tumblr media
Jill Henderson was a key figure in the story of Tenzing Norgay and the 1953 Everest expedition. While not a direct family member, she played a significant role in encouraging Tenzing to participate in the expedition. But, Jill Henderson did not climb Mount Everest.
The Apple Original Films "Tenzing," is focuses on Tenzing Norgay's life and his summit of Everest with Edmund Hillary. Tom Hiddleston, Willem Dafoe, and the Himalayan cast are expected to bring the Sherpa’s story to life.
Lion writer Luke Davies is behind the screenplay. Producing is Liz Watts, Emile Sherman and Iain Canning for See-Saw Films, alongside Desray Armstrong, Peedom and Davies. (Apple and See-Saw have partnered on five seasons of the series Slow Horses.) Simon Gillis, David Michôd and Norbu Tenzing (son of Tenzing Norgay) will serve as executive producers.
Apple acquired the rights to the project in what was described as a “competitive situation” as Cannes kicked off. It is one of the first major deals to come out of the market.
