The Kingdom Hearts novels are a series of books written by Tomoco Kanemaki, containing artwork drawn by Shiro Amano. Originally, they were only released in Japan, but we now have the official English translations for most books. (we are only missing the spin offs) The few games that don’t have novels made for them are the mobile games. (unfortunately)

Keep in mind that most of the books when translated into English were combined into larger volumes. For example, kh2 vol 1 and 2 were put together to make a bigger volume 1. So, if you come across any fan translations titled "vol 4 of _" or " vol 5 of _" it might be labeled as a different vol in the English version, but it contains the same story.

I could be wrong, but I read online that Yen Press recently lost the rights to the English novels and manga. This makes it hard to find the physical english copies anymore. When shopping for the books online, please make sure you're purchasing the correct language.

Libraries and Adult Lonliness

As we all know, making friends as adults is hard. And while the internet has made it easier to make friends with people around the world, actually meeting people you can meet with on a regular basis and just hang out with us tough. The common answer to meeting new people is to find people who are interested in the same stuff as you. As such, finding places to meet new people who may have similar interests to you is important. And that’s why I think the library is a great resource!

As a children’s librarian, one of the things I try to point out to parents when they come in to sign their kids up for the library is that we offer adult programs too. Obviously we have book clubs - my library has 4 different book clubs for people who read different types of books. I’ve posted about it before with knitting/crochet circles. But for people who have or want to explore different interests, and meet new people via that new interest, you may want to check your local library to see their programming. For example:

Hiking: Many libraries offer things like hiking kits. These can be things such as maps for local trails, hiking sticks, a water resistant backpack, binoculars, bird guides, and the like. But some libraries having hiking clubs, such as the Poughkeepsie Public Library Distruct in NY.

Language Learning: Many libraries have access to language learning platforms such as Rosetta Stone or Mango Languages. But many other have dedicated classes where adults can come and learn languages. If you’re in L.A. county, the public library offers classes in beginner Russian, Chinese, Korean, Italian, Armenian, etc!

Music: there are many libraries that have maker spaces where you can go and record music. There’s one in the Newark Library and at a branch of the Brooklyn library. There are also ones that allow you to check out instruments. But there are also ones where you can receive free music lessons, such as the Dallas Public Library (this program was online during the pandemic but is now also offered in person!)

I could keep going.

Singing, dancing, theater, yoga, sketch comedy, creative writing, RC Cars, foraging, cemetery tour groups, jewelry making, baking, woodworking, painting, etc. If you have a niche interest or would like to get into a niche interest, there is a chance your library has had or will have a program about it. And if you’re looking to meet new people, it is a great place to start.

Hi! Been interesting to see all your Zagi content on tumblr. I have a funny story with him myself and thought I'd share.

I'd never been a big Tales fan, but probably years ago I'd watched a compilation of Yuri Lowell funny moments. One day, I decided to check out another, only to skip through and find that a character had a very familiar voice (Roger Craig Smith). I looked up online to see if this character was voiced by RCS. Didn't find the answer for him, but I did find he voiced 'Zagi'. I continue watching the vid, and the very next scene, was Zagi. And I remembered him from the last time I watched one of these compilations. This crazy murder-obsessed assassin, was voiced by Sonic the Hedgehog. I found that hilarious, and also thought he did pretty good in the role, and so for a while, out of all the iconic Vesperia characters, I was obsessed with Zagi. I kept rewatching his cutscenes and even streamed them to friends. I grew to actually really like him, what can I say? He's fun. Out of all the characters, out of everything that could have gotten me to get Tales of Vesperia, it was Zagi. I now have Tales of Vesperia, ready to play. Hopefully I enjoy it, hopefully Zagi's actual fights don't destroy me mentally, I've heard how hard they can be, but man, I find it so funny this minor recurring villain is what made me get it.

I've been out of Tales for a bit now (definitely due for a replay!) but I can never get him out of my head. Like I knew the names of those heresies off the top of my head--I opened the wikipedia pages just to double-check I was spelling them right. What the actual fuck.

That said, I'm incapable of thinking about Trinitarian heresies without hearing a leprechaun in my head yelling, "That's modalism, Patrick!"

(Modalism is also called Sabellianism)

In any case, as the joke goes, if you think you understand the Trinity, you're probably doing a heresy, and the heresy was defined and named before, like, 1000 CE; the point of the Trinity is that it's a mystery and we can't really understand it.

(This is the Trinity. Obviously. /half joking)

Wikipedia's list of Trinitarian heresies is based on the definitions put forth by the Roman Catholic church, but since most of them were decided before the Great Schism (much less the Reformation), plenty of non-RC churches define them as heresies as well, including all the Anglican churches.

To the degree that the Episcopal church has a set of normative beliefs* (none of which are required of anyone except, theoretically, ordained clergy**), the list is here, but if you dig into the site's glossary you can find a lot of the major heresies listed by their names and defined as heresies.

(*"What do you mean you don't have a set of beliefs" We're not a confessional denomination, we're united by liturgy more than anything else hence the Book of Common Prayer, I talked about it a bit here; something something lex orandi, lex credendi; something something orthopraxy; something something via media; ask a handful of Episcopalians whether the bread and wine at the Eucharist are Jesus' body and blood and most of them will answer something about the Real Presence, but ask us to define that and most of us will smile and say it's a Mystery, and a few people will smile and then say something like "Well I believe in consubstantiation as opposed to transubstantiation but it's not like our salvation depends on those details." Like, we have a catechism in the back of the BCP but I wasn't required to read it or agree with it to be confirmed; I read the book Walk in Love instead which is often used in Episcopal confirmation classes, because it includes things like church polity; but I did say to my bishop, in front of my church and family, that I believed a few things during my confirmation, mostly based on the Apostle's creed.)

(**This is what I get for hanging out online with Church Nerds; a lot of the younger ones who self-define as "inclusively orthodox" have extremely strong negative opinions on priests and bishops who openly doubt, for instance, the physical resurrection or the virgin birth. I have mixed feelings on this--doubt is considered normal and fine in the Episcopal church. But I do feel odd about clergy preaching that "eh maybe those things didn't happen," because I do feel like faith should sort of be the goal?? But then it also seems arbitrary to believe the Gospel stories are literal when we don't insist on literalism/inerrancy in any of the rest of the Bible. Can you tell I've thought about this a lot. Anyway don't get me started on the "inclusive orthodoxy" movement or I'll be here all fucking day--the tl;dr is that I mostly agree with them but they can be smug dicks about it and it puts me off.)

There’s the one where you can use the Wishing Well and ask for money and the money bag falls on your sim’s head and k!lls them. Hilarious!

Alpha CC or Maxis Match?

I love clay hairs and I love old Peggy and Helga hairs too. Some TS2 clothing meshes have never held any appeal for me, and some alpha stuff that is very beloved leaves me cold. I like the beta look too! I’ve already shared my love of beta-esque eyes.

I've been collecting CC for much too long. Sometimes I go digging through my old af clothing CC wondering what if??? should I recolor that???? is this mesh good, actually?????

I’ve considered getting rid of all of my custom windows and doors (save a few special ones). I feel like Maxis has given us everything we could ask for and more. Plus it might save space for even more CC. More rc's of what I have, less new meshes.

Do you cheat your sims weight?

Like, use cheats for thinness/fatness? No. Not unless I am checking to see if a fat morph I made works.

Do you move objects?

I’ll move any object I damn well please, yeah.

Favorite Mod?

I could say something boring like Gussy Up or the Sim Manipulator but instead I’ll say something cool like the trainset does not catch on fire because it is cool when an object does not have 2% chance of combusting 😎

Less grungy! Well, more lightly grungy. Less subject to trends. I’ve been a lot more careful about what I download. I delete stuff all the time.

TS2 – I want it to be OFB but OFB is so busted. Seasons I guess! I like weather and plants.

A Robot and a Girl - Part 2

So continuing on with the updates, here's part 2 of A Robot and a Girl. With the engineer tied up, it was time for D'Anna to find who she'd came looking for.

She could feel the circuits firing as she tapped the card, the tool chest sliding out along the wall.

The room beyond was lined with storage stalls, five of them full. The back of the room was some kind of loading bay, the sounds of the transport lanes just beyond its rolling door. Each mech was held firmly in place with straps, their heads hanging low, without power.

D’Anna clenched her fists as she walked down the line, the lights flickering on overhead.

Just how long had he been running like this?

“Most of these are archer mechs, combat models,” she muttered to herself, frowning in thought.

She stopped at the last stall before the loading dock, running a hand over the scorched metal of the mech’s chest plate. 

They were an RC-N model, exactly who she was looking for… 

The engineer had pulled out their power cell, leaving it on a small table built into the stall. With a grunt, she pulled open their chest plate and slotted it back inside. Its circuits flickered to life as she twisted the cell into place. She could hear their systems warming up as she closed them back up.

“Rosi?” she asked, stepping back as their eyes came online, pulsing as they regarded her.

“You–” their voice box crackled. “You…know my name?”

She gave them a small smile as she undid the straps, “Somebody missed you a lot when you disappeared. Sweet lady asked me to find you.”

As the last strap came off they stepped free of the stall, arms turning and clicking in sturdy shoulder joints.

Rosi tested and flexed their hands after being bound so long, tilting their head inquisitively as they spoke, “You know Cole?”

“I’m gonna get you back to her,” D’Anna said, meeting their eyes as they studied her.

They clenched their hands at their sides, looking around at the other stalls.

“What about them? What will happen to them?” they asked, watching as she studied the other models.

“I’ve got a friend that can take them in-” she ran a hand along the chest of one of the archer mechs, their body brand new. “-I won’t leave them behind.”

“Do you mean that,” Rosi asked, towering over her as they stood at her side.

She took their hand in hers and squeezed until her nerves ached, the servos in her knuckles whining.

“I give you my word, Rosi. They’ll be safe,” she said softly.

Rosi stared at her for a long time, longer than most would be comfortable with.

It was a look that asked too many questions. A look that held thought behind it. It reminded her that even a machine like them, a workhorse, was alive.

“You surprise me,” was all Rosi said.

D’Anna gripped the hem of her coat, thumb trailing along the once white synth-silk, long since dyed red.

She looked back at them with a smile, irises glinting as she spoke, “That’s a good thing, Rosi, thank you…” she rubbed her hands together with a small chuckle, “Now, let’s get the rest of ‘em online, shall we?”

The Gardens were always warm, humidity dripping from the solar shaft’s machinery. Greenery grew along the walls, vibrant in the sunlight that spilled in from above.

The air rushed past D’Anna as the corridors of the city opened up into the Gardens’ wide open spaces, sunlight glinting off her glasses. She shaded her eyes as she let her circuits adjust to the natural light.

“So it’s morning already?” she muttered to herself, knocking her glasses up as she kneaded at her brow.

She would never get used to seeing so much growth outside the Towers. Vines and branches wound their way around metal and concrete, cleaning the air for the rest of the city. But that wasn’t all it did.

She could see people tending gardens mounted on the walls, picking fruits and leaves that thrived in the sunlight. Flowers bloomed in planters along the path she was walking, an absolute riot of color. She could see traders setting out their wares, gardeners gathering their harvest, and engineers readying their equipment.

“Looks like a smuggler drop’s coming,” D’Anna hummed, glancing up at Rosi beside her.

Rosi gave a sage nod, then tilted their head in confusion as they spoke, “Smuggler drop?”

She nodded towards the massive airshaft that dominated the space, climbing towards open sky.

“You’ll see,” she said. “We should hurry, we don’t want to get in the way, trust me.”

They looked back to their fellow mechs, the other four giving Rosi a questioning look. And Rosi just splayed their hands in a small, helpless, gesture.

D’Anna frowned in thought as she looked around, circuits whirring as her eyes scanned around the space. She let out a soft sigh as she found what she was looking for, a yellow diamond marked on the nearby wall. She laid a hand over the marker, the paint still pretty new, and turned till she found the next.

This wasn’t where the path was last time she was here… She’d have to ask about that later.

She waved for Rosi and the others to follow, tucking her hands away as her eyes traced from one diamond to the next. The gardens continued to hum with activity. The tension building to an event she knew all too well. She continued to follow the trail, her eyes scanning about

Her eyes scanned about, racing along the trail until she found a familiar sight. Hidden in the branches and vines was an alcove, a small door marked with that same golden yellow beckoning her. She could hear the rumbling overhead, the electric hum of engines.

Bell tones rang out all around the shaft as several aerial craft started their descent. Their atmo-drivers whipped the wind into a frenzy as they hovered. Men and women barked orders, machines creaked and groaned, landing pads sliding out from where they’d been hidden amongst the green.

A young woman’s voice crackled out all around the Gardens, “Starting the clock, ninety minutes.”

The crews clicked on their watches, small screens flickering to life. And all counted down-

The moment a craft landed, the smuggler crews went to work, opening panels and pulling their contraband from their hiding places.

Others opened their cargo bays as they descended, barkers leaning out to announce their wares.

Mechanics raced out to meet them, trading work for whatever they had to offer.

-counting down the small window till sector security took notice.

D’Anna flashed a small smile as she watched everyone go to work, bringing goods to trade and sell.

Before she came here, she had never seen anything quite like it. She’d hated the chaos back then, but now she could see the beauty in it. The people here were full of life, brimming with ideas. Now, she could hardly imagine any other sight that brought a smile to her face quite like this.

She turned to Rosi and the others, one hand still in her coat pocket while the other tapped against the door.

“That-” she said with a nod to the organized chaos around them. “-is a smuggler drop.”

Himari was probably hard at work already.

Demonon Vrosis by Rotting Christ was probably the first real extreme metal song I ever liked. I listened to it because a fully grown man online was shitting on me for "still liking Metallica and Megadeth" despite the fact that he was making fun of a 14 year old who recently got an interest in metal. I asked him what bands he liked, and RC was his favorite band. Checked them out, and I dug the sound, although that style of music from any other band usually sucks to my ears. Not RC though. Anyways, years later I saw him post a comment somewhere in a group and I immediately jumped in to bully the shit out of him, as if I was a shark who got a scent of blood. Yeah I remembered that shit. He didn't even argue back. Probably got old enough to realize how cringe he was for arguing with a teenager at the time.
