Hello everyone and welcome to the start of the weekend! 😁 I’ve had quite a stressful week but sharing my book haul and spending the weekend with my beloved (books) 🤣 is sure to cheer me up. Good Pop Bad Pop is a nonfiction book by British pop icon Jarvis Cocker which was inspired by him cleaning out his loft and finding a catalogue of things that defined his life. I’m very excited to check it out. I couldn’t resist the Waterstones exclusive edition of Do No Harm and am planning to buddy read it with @buddyreadbooknook at the end of the month. Check out this for a synopsis - My son has been taken. And I’ve been given a choice…kill a patient on the operating table. Or never see him again. 😱 Finally, I borrowed The Secret Life Of Albert Entwistle from bestie @stevieredman who loved it. Albert is a man with a quiet, simple life and lives alone with his cat, Gracie. He works as a postman until he receives a letter thanking him for decades of service and that he is being forced into retirement. At once, his sole connection with the world unravels. And so, rather than continue his lonely existence, he makes a brave plan to start living. This involves being honest about who he really is, finding the happiness he has denied himself and to find the courage to look for George who he loved and lost many years ago but never forgot. I’d love to know your thoughts on any of these books or authors. Hello everyone and the happiest of Fridays to you! It’s a long weekend here in the UK 🇬🇧 and I’m feeling so much better than I have been so win-win! Here’s a book haul. I preordered The Sweetness Of Water when it was longlisted for the Booker prize in 2021. Landry and Prentiss are two brothers born into slavery, finally freed as the American Civil War draws to its bitter close. Cast into the world without a penny to their names, their only hope is to find work in a society that still views them with nothing but intolerance. I preordered the paperback of Cunning Women and now wish I’d plumped for the hardback, it was gorgeous! Set in 17th century Lancashire, this witchy book is “a story of loneliness, connection and female rage that fans of intensely atmospheric historical fiction will love.” Finally we have A Little Devil in America: In Praise Of Black Performance. This book of essays is a soaring and heartfelt examination of Black performance in America, in which race, history, culture, entertainment and lived experience collide. I’d love to know your thoughts on any of these books or authors. Friday is here! It’s time for another book haul. Today I’ve got three paperbacks for you, one of which I’ve already read - The Things We Do For Love which I buddy read with my lovely sister @chrissireads It was a difficult read for me on one level but I really enjoyed the story and will have my review up soon. It follows a seventeen year old girl who has a difficult relationship with her mother and a woman in her 30’s who is desperate to be a mother. Little Scratch is all the fault of the gorgeous @victoria_catherine_shaw who told me I had to get my mitts on this book. It is the story of a day in the life of an unnamed woman, living in a lower-case world of demarcated fridge shelves and office politics; clock watching and What’s App notifications. The protagonist tells us how she gets through morning to night whilst processing recent sexual violence. Finally, we have another translated work from @tiltedaxisbooks which I’ve become slightly obsessed with. I’ll Go On is a story from one of South Korea’s most acclaimed young authors about two sisters, Sora and Nana. When the girls are young, they lose their father in a horrific freak accident and their mother, Aeja becomes unhealthily obsessed with the violence in life. It’s a stunning exploration of the intensity of early bonds and the traces they leave on us as we grow up. I’d love to know your thoughts on any of these books or authors. Let’s have a chat in the comments! Have a lovely weekend everyone 🤗😘 #bookstagram #bookhaul #cantstophauling #prettypaperbacks #tiltedaxispress #smallpresssupport #kristinhannah #thethingswedoforlove #littlescratch #rebeccawatson #illgoon #hwangjungeun #emilyyaewon #translatedfiction #literaryfiction #contemporaryfiction #lovingbooks #mybookcollection #onthetbr #bookhoarder #bookcollector #booksforlife #booksforever #authorsnewtome #favouriteauthors https://www.instagram.com/p/CaIUYwirXcg/?utm_medium=tumblr
